Customer Reviews:
take the time.......2007-06-22
As an artist I paint while listening to music. I ordered this only because I knew of Jon Anderson's music. I had no idea that this would become my favorite CD. I almost can't concentrate on painting as I listen to the rich, full, beautiful sounds. If ever there was music from heaven this is it. How anyone who takes the time to listen could not be transported to another universe in peace is beyond me. I wish I could thank Jon for making life richer for me.
A spiritual and relaxing energy!.......2007-06-06
With the music of Angels Embrace Jon Anderson manages to create a loving and relaxing atmosphere that fills your entire body with calmness and piece. As a fan of both Yes and New Age music in general I find this record to be very suiting for relaxing and dreaming. Jon manage to put a more spiritual side to the music at the same time as it's relaxing like the New Age music from Steven Halpern and Vangelis. With the mixes of the typical Jon Anderson melodies like we find in songs like "Change We Must", and an overall instrumental spiritual sound that really has no melody but a spiritual, relaxing and light sound it fits perfect to get your soul and heart lighter after a stressful day!
for new age music fans.......2007-04-12
As much as I like some of Jon's music, I mostly appreciate his lyrics. This album totally disappointed me. It's just another new age album, to me plain boring. I'll stick to "toltec" and what he did with Vangelis, most of which I find extraordinary.
More Masterful Music-making!!!!.......2007-02-27
Pinch me. I'm not kidding. Pinch me. That is how lovely this album is!
I just received the CD in the mail with some other items I ordered...before ordering this, I listened to the clips, which were entrancing enough to help me decide. It's a great album for creating a peaceful vibe in the room during the day (think massage and Reiki therapy!!!) and a spacy, ethereal vibe at night with candles glowing...or a good background CD for other creative endeavors (I like composing web pages to the sounds of Jon and Vangelis, myself)...and it's excellent for listening to while unwinding after a hard, stressful day/night shift.
As a musician myself, one thing I noticed in some of the songs was a familiar chord structure Jon uses in his 1996 work "Toltec," and seeing this is a 1995 recording, I thought, "Okay, sounds like he found a chord pattern he liked and continued it in 'Toltec.'" Lest you might think that gets boring, we musicians do this all the time. It's what gives us our signature sound. It's how people can recognize our vibrations, if you will. And as we change, our music will change. Yet, there will be threads of our core Selves within. Other Jon, Vangelis, Steve Roach, Robert Rich et. al fans know this.
Does this CD have big-time "New Age" strains? Oh, yes. And some people may not be into that. But I got nothing but good things to say about this album: it's quiet, unassuming, yet masterful..it's New Age that, while having a deeply spiritual message, doesn't completely pound it into your head with a honey-soaked vibraphone mallet. This recording has instrumentals that rival Yanni--and I do like Yanni's stuff, to be sure.
My favorite tracks? "Angels Embrace," "Prayersong" and "Midnight Cello." If there's one thing Jon knows how to do is put together an album where one track sets the tone for a series of songs and finishes with a peaceful, gentle, 'goodnight-and-goodbye-I'll-see-ya-soon' kinda piece. I'd love to see him do an album centered around the concept of the Golden Mean and see what he does with it.
For those who still want to hear Jon's flashy, raucous, wonderful-noise-making side, check out his work on YES' "Magnification" album or his contributions to "In Elven Lands: The Fellowship," or even his first solo recording, "Olias of Sunhillow..."
To sum up, this is a definite change of pace for me in listening to Jon's stuff, because he's usually not without guitar in hand or microphone to mouth expressing his very mystical thoughts via lyrics that would befuddle anyone with a mediocre mindset. Here, especially in "Prayersong," he is very straightforward, and uncomplicated, which is exactly how he intended it. Not that his more involved, "complicated" stuff is not enjoyable, but complicated is not what this album is, or should be, and I think Jon probably had similar thoughts when first coming up with the concept. He is nothing if not a master at manifesting music that is in line with his personal intentions. ;-)
This is one Jon fan giving serious kudos to a guy whose 'musical kung-fu' is very strong. ;-)
A gift from Jon Anderson.......2007-02-22
Angel's Embrace is a beautiful album. It is the rare kind of piece of music that can move the spirit and calm the mind and heart. At no point does it significantly tug you away from stillness, but rather creates a bed of sound and an environment of comfort which facilitates the opening of the spirit, encouraging communion.
Jon Anderson specializes in manifesting his creativity and imagination into sound and this is a great example of his gift. Thanks again Jon.
