Harris Moore and Steve Coulter's hammered dulcimer/harp arrangements draw freely from an enticing array of traditions and influences: the rich Celtic heritage of O'Carolan and the ancient bards, the Baroque delights of J.S. Bach and Henry Purcell, and the glory of American folk and gospel music - along with beguiling new original compositions. Mellow, original riffs with your peace of mind in mind. Sends you somewhere, but only if you want to go. Just as easily unobtrusive background for reading, dinner, massage, whatever. No overproduced, Yanni-like crap anywhere on this cd. Consider this money well spent.

Been looking for this guy for months !.......1999-12-23

Anyone who listens to NPR's Morning Edition has heard this guy many times. A cut from this album provides the "deadroll" or somtimes called bumper music at least one or two times a week. I loved it from the beginning and just had to know if I could by a whole CD of this guy's stuff...happily, I can and did !

Best Guitar Album in years !.......1999-10-19

I recently bought this album knowing little about Danny Heines. I wouldn't normally take the time to write a review but this album has moved me to wax poetic. It is far and away the best guitar album to come along in years. I guess it's been out for a few years but it still sounds totally fresh. The guitar playing is brilliantly executed and highly innovative, while possessing a deeply soulful quality. His solo guitar pieces sound like a cross between Michael Hedges and Tuck Andress (of Tuck & Patty) yet completely original. The ensemble pieces have find Heines weaving hypnotic guitar textures into fresh arrangements that are full of delightful suprises . i.e. a sample of Pygmy voices, cellist David Darling , and vocalist Vicki Randle of the Tonight Show Band. The real clincher is even my wife likes this album. The first time we have a consensus in years. Anyway, I'd recommend it to anyone.

This guy can really play! If you like Hedges, youre going to love this disk! The technical skill this guy has is pretty amazing! He uses a lot of fret board work which sounds really cool!

A Must Buy!!!!!!!!!!.......2002-07-02

I fisrt purchased this CD about two years ago in Conner Pass in the Dingle Peninsula of Ireland. The music is absolutely beautiful. It has such an innocent quality that you can not help but fall in love with it. Completely instrumental, it soothes your heart just by hearing the first notes. If you buy the CD, share it and sends its beauty everywhere. I beleive that the best songs would be #1, Scarborough Fair because of its ability to tell a story through music and #5, Sheep Under the Snow for its harmony and wonderful music. Both are beautifully done and have such smooth rhthym. Some songs are traditional and others original but all will claim your loyalty. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Angelic Music at the top of an Ireland Mountain Pass.......1998-12-24

Our first introduction to Steve Coulter and Harris Moore's music came in August as we stopped the car at the top of the Conor Mountain Pass in Dingle Ireland. As we stepped out of the auto to take in the awesome view, beautiful harp music came wafting across the breeze. On the mountain-side in the most unlikely, yet most perfect, of places was Steve Coulter playing the harp. It was a truly magical moment. I've since shared with CD with everyone I know... especially cut #6, the Conor Pass.

I've played my copy of this tape so often that I need a new one. Northern Lights delivers a non-stop banquet of instrumental music that never fails to soothe and rejuvenate. Their tunes are drawn primarily from ancient and traditional Celtic airs, that take on delightful new meaning in their highly talented hands, as well as some fine original work. Their first offering, 'Northern Lights' is also well-worth a listen. One of my very favorite listening pieces from a group with a well-deserved loyal following.
