SUCKS!!!!!.......2007-06-28

I Love Enya! How could these people do this to her music and call it a tribute..They sound like a tin pan band...And don't get me wrong, I love strings and almost any classical music. But this piece sucks! What an insult to Enya!

Since I love both Enya and the sound of strings, I was excited to hear this CD. I have to admit that there are parts that don't seem completely smooth - perhaps a slight incompatibility of the different styles of vibrato? Overall, however, I was not disappointed at all. The strings are gorgeous and do justice to the flowing, relaxing sounds of Enya's songs. It's definitely worth it, even if you're a fan of string quartets rather than Enya specifically.

Ok, I have ONE question. Why is everyone saying that this CD Sucks?? Yes, the tone could have been better, and there could have been a bit more vibrato in the songs.... Oh well! Also, I was SOOOOOOOOOO Bummed out that they didnt put the song "ONLY TIME". grrrr..... oh well.... Not exactly my FAVORITE string quartet tribute CD that I own, but, I still gotta give it some props!!!!! the end.

While maybe not quite the same as the original versions of Enya's songs, this string quartet offers a nice alternative to some of Enya's greatest pieces. Beautiful blend of strings that have been arranged to sound like the original song but different enough that it doesn't get old.

A Total Disaster!.......2002-04-03

Huge Disappointment!
Awful performence and terrible recording quality make this CD a disaster. Violin sounds like someone's scratching barbed wires. My neighbor's 2nd grader plays better than that! This CD totally screws up the beauty of Enya's music....

Fine Enya tribute album. Well known Enya songs recorded instrumental (no vocals) in baroque style by excellent musicians. Most I like "The Memory Of Trees", "Orinoco Flow", "A Day Without Rain", "Cursum Perficio" and "Wild Child".

So close to what it should be and yet so far.......2005-12-12

I had high hopes when I received The String Quartet Tribute to Enya: Dreams. I enjoy practically everything Enya's ever done; I enjoy string quartets, depending on what they play and how well they play it; Enya uses synthetic and occasionally real stringed instruments on her albums; and a "tribute" album by a real string quartet ought to be respectful of Enya's music. How could I lose?

Well, my deductive logic overlooked one fact: not everyone takes the concept of "tribute" in the same way. Some take considerable license with the original artist's work. This album does that more than many. If the problem had stopped there, this could have been a good album anyway. Not so.

First, the musicians are very good ones, but the arrangements (even when respectful) are mediocre at best. (I kept thinking, "Hey, I could do better than that with my own MIDI arrangements. In fact, I have done better than that!" And if I can say that as a amateur songwriter, hopefully accurately, then there's something seriously wrong with the "pros".) Second, with some tracks (above all the cover of "A Day Without Rain"), the spirit and sometimes the form of the original song is distorted almost or even entirely beyond recognition.

In short, Enya fans should avoid this album like the plague. The producers are to be commended for not simply making a pastiche of Enya's music, but the Taliesin Orchetra did a much better (if still not perfect) effort in that direction. I'd like to be merciful and give this album a 3, but I can't; what it does to "A Day Without Rain" alone is simply inexcusible.

A change of pace.......2005-12-12

I have to say. I totally disagree with the other three reviews.
First and foremost I love Enya's music, and nothing will change that.
Though to concentrate anew on her interpretations is sometimes difficult since her music is intense, and therefore I have a problem rehearing it six months after I heard her.
But don't expect someone else to do a better job than her at her music, SHE IS PERFECTION and that's obvious, so I picked this album up as a way to hear some variation on Enya, get a different spin on her music if you will, a lighter Enya.
And that's exactly what it is.
Though the begining of the CD seems better than some of the end songs I'm still not in the least sorry to have picked up this album. I find it has a sense of humor which we so desperatly need and the British seem to still have. I think it deserves more than 3 stars because it isn't mediocre, but not five since it's not terribly ground-breaking. Hence my rating.

I thought this would be an interesting spin on some great Enya songs. Boy was I wrong! I DIED laughing when I heard this lady sing. Is it me, or does she sing really flat? Someone really hit the nail on the head about it being karaoke-like. Honestly, I think I could have done better with a Speak-N-Spell and a tin can. What were they thinking?

This poor lady thought she was doing a great service by giving tribute to the great Enya, but alas, she probably ruined her name forever (Who was she anyway?).

I will admit, 12 Girls Band did a fine job doing an instrumental of "Only Time". I say IF someone is going to do a tribute, DO NOT SING! No one, I mean NO ONE can have a voice like Enya.

The Worst Tribute Album I Have Ever Heard.......2003-11-24

That's right, awful, awful, awful. Enya probably has more tribute albums then she has her own albums and this one is right up there with Maiden of Mysteries and the Taliesan Orchestra. This woman who performs can neither sing nor can her producer mix. This album is an embarassment to the name of Enya.

The only tribute album I think I would buy is if Maire Brennan, Enya's big sister did it. EVERYONE ELSE PLEASE LEAVE ENYA AND HER COMPOSITIONS ALONE.

Ugh! Ugh! Horrible! This completely unentertaining mess sounds like what might spill out the open door of a local karaoke bar, and not at all like a professionally produced CD. I'm disturbed to hear Enya's beautiful music so poorly performed. Nothing original here, either. At least the Taliesan Orchestra's Enya tribute tried to do something different and interesting with her music. This is just a lot of very untalented singing that seems to be making an effort at sounding like Enya and failing horribly. What is it about a dreadful knockoff that makes it a tribute? Do yourself a favor and just buy the real thing. Or sing Enya's music in the shower yourself. You couldn't do any worse than this.

I think my IQ dropped 10 points after I bought this cd. This sucks so bad. Even a muzak version of enya would be better than this cd. Poor attempt to get money based on the Enya name. Don't be duped by marketing, this cd is mule puke!
