5 out of 5 stars One Of My Favorites of All Time.......2004-02-21

This album, along with their other album on Telstar- "Divided"- is one of the very best albums ever to me. ...

Their original being taken down for some reason.

It has the best aspects of progressive metal- long compositions, meaningful, idealistic and interesting lyrical content, lots of technical playing, etc. What this band has going for it above many other bands is their skill at composition and arrangement. How many prog metal bands do YOU know who can do a cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It", with a jazz interlude in the middle? Just shows their versatility and skill, as odd as it sounds (you can find this on the "Divided" album).

Every position in this band is staffed by a first rate player. Even though they broke up due to musical differences, you can see the varying styles of playing make a significant contribution to the music.

They also are quite gutsy in their arrangement of the songs. The third song of Insights- Celestial Haze- is unlike anything I have heard from other prog metal band. It's simply amazing. They have a song on Divided that is quite interesting for other reasons- it's called "Sticks In Space" and it's the Chapman Stick being played in a very cool and overlapped way that's quite spacy, as you may rstand from the name. Very progressive, but in the way Rush was when they did Cygnus X-1. Yes, I did compare these bands! Listen and see what I mean.

Contrast this to the second song- Akasha Chronicles- which is an out and out instrumental prog fest that is also awesome. Play these against each other, and it makes for a heck of an intro. I think of all three of the first songs as a trilogy somehow.

This is not to take away from the other songs. They are just amazing in their sweeping feeling. It's both cool/technical and emotional/idealistic. The topics of the songs seem to me most closely paired with Yes, although their music is nothing like Yes', it still struck me like that.

BUY THIS ALBUM! If you like prog, this is a better arranged halfway point between DT and bands like Porcupine Tree, Transatlantic, The Flower Kings, etc. There is just enough prog noodling to get your fix, enough heavy bits to keep you heavy, and enough slow parts to put in some real feeling. Even saying all this is not enough to express how much I like this album. I couldn't be sadder that they aren't together anymore. I hope that they can get around to creating a new album, but I heard they felt take advantage of by both of their previous labels.

I own about 600 prog albums, and this is in the top ten- even with classic Rush, Yes, ELP, Vanden Plas, and Spiral Architect considered.

Thanks,
REEG!

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Bands there ever was..........2003-08-06

Lemur Voice is an absolutely phenominal group. They rival Dream Theater; they're that good. Gregor Vander Loo has such an amazing voice. He has great range and emotion. Marcel Coenen can rip on the guitar. His technique, feel, and taste are truly unique. The other musicians are equally incredible. Lemur Voice has a very unique style, with a few hints of Dream Theater. Their music is very progressive. They start out with the amazing opener, "Intuition", which is a heavy DT type tune. "Akasha Chronicles" is one of the coolest instrumentals you will ever hear. "Celestial Haze" is a smooth keyboard-based instrumental, that soothes your soul. Vanderloo's voice is used as an instrument on that one. "More of Nothing" is my other favorite. It is an amzing prog rocker. Lemur Voice's music has so many textures and moods. Unfortunately, they are no longer a band. They put out another album, "Divided", on another label, but I have only been able to get it from MP3.com. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DIVIDED, IT RULES! If you love prog metal at it's very best, buy this album. Lemur Voice is one of the all-time greats. 1000 stars!

5 out of 5 stars It's all true!.......2002-02-28

Yes, this is a 5-star progressive metal CD, even though you never heard of the band and so far as I know they never made another. I rate them right up there with Dream Theater, though their style reminds me more of Ice Age (another great prog metal band). Grab it while you can!

5 out of 5 stars Oh, sweet melodic prog metal, how I love thee...........2001-10-30

Q: Where do you find...

beautiful melodies
extraordinary musicianship
soaring vocals
fantastic lyrics
metal crunch
and passion passion passion?

A: Lemur Voice.

----

Bar none, this is the best modern metal album I've ever heard. I return to it again and again, and years later it still reigns supreme. It's beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Vocal Sylist! A New Talent........2000-11-05

A very, very talented vocalist! Gregoor is probably one of the leading talents in terms of clarity and range. Technique and heart working well together.

I think this singer has a great career ahead of him. Gregoor's team on the instruments are equally gifted. Its really unfortunate they broke up. I hope to hear this singer again.

Prog-rock vocalist from Seattle.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2003-04-09

Bluegrass, country, roots...this CD is all of that and more. Try to sit still while you listen...impossible! The two singers harmonize really well and the band's passion for the music is evident.

This CD has a great mix of traditional songs and originals. Actually, I couldn't tell the originals from the covers without looking at the liner notes (except the couple songs i recognized).

And the music seems to appeal to everyone. I saw a live show a couple months ago...WOW! I dragged along a couple friends who don't listen to country/bluegrass and they really got into it and ended up buying CDs too. (After the show I bought the newer CD, Weary Blues, and it's great too).

I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is moved by music...and if you're not, this might be the CD to change that!

What a super CD. I've seen them several times in person and it just gets better and better. This CD is a combination of Texas Folk (Alt.), bluegrass and counrty. The music is superb, the voices are great, the personalities are fun...just a great mix all around. What a great road trip CD!

Finally, somebody gets to the point!

Bass offers a classy album that focuses on the important aspects of every day life.

    Refreshing and stimulating!!!

    A must buy.

5 out of 5 stars Industry Legends Rock On!.......2003-10-14

I was told by a friend that the CD contained the works of several industry legends including the former drummer from Bruce Springsteen (who was with the Steve Miller Band before that), Mr. Gary Mallaber, and Jerry Livingston (the bass player from the Rick James Band), and these guys are on fire!

I listened to the CD several times, and it is a great mix of classic rock tunes, heavy blues licks with tight bass lines (41 cents and Joyful Blues are great), and even a few nifty classic guitar riffs!

I would bet this album will go very far once the word gets out.

5 out of 5 stars Now I Know What "The Truth" Is!.......2003-10-01

Bass Reeves has given us an avenue to understand the true realities of the world. His music is a microcosm of what has happened and is happening in today's world. It is a real eye opener and should be listened to, not simply heard, and shared with as many people as possible. This is one CD you should add to your collection! Rock, funk, blues, jazz, soul. . .it has it all!

5 out of 5 stars incredible from beginning to end.......2003-09-27

i have listened to Bass Reeves' new album over 20 times,i would guess...and every time i get something more out of it....it is mesmerizing....this guy really knows how to write and his personal performance and his band are cookin.......
i am actually a fellow artist...and don't do this often..but this guy is too much....check him out....

    1 out of 5 stars Painfully off.......2003-03-02

I wish I had paid attention to the other review on this page before acquiring this CD. I don't know how this CD got released, the monks on their own sound alright but the combo with Shalamut just does not work and her voice is predominant through the CD. I have no doubt the intentions were good and of the highest, but the results are not pleasing to listen to as her voice wavers and does not sound harmonious. Regretfully I have to give this CD a big thumbs down. If anyone does enjoy this CD I would really like to hear why.

    1 out of 5 stars Extremely disappointed.......2002-11-19

I love sacred music and chants but I was extremely disappointed with this CD. Unfortunately Shulamit cannot hold a note on key and this collaboration just does not work. I could barely listen to the CD the whole way through and will not be listening to it again. An expensive lesson that you can save yourself from.

5 out of 5 stars Touched by Sound.......2001-09-08

I have been deeply touched through the experience of hearing the Vibration C.D. that Shulamit has produced in collaboration with the Monks of the Drepung Monastary. It is music to my soul; my innermost being. All at once I feel nourished & loved; Nurturing & loving; Iam reminded of something that I know & remember but to which there are not really any words to describe. I want this sound in my life & would be sorry to not have the pleasure of receiving this beautiful energy- source were it denied me,
I am grateful to Shulamit for presenting this opportunity to the world.

    4 out of 5 stars A fine singer-songwriter.......2004-08-24

Chuck Suchy has been making music on the Northern Great Plains for most of his life, playing mostly barn dances, church festivals, and ethnic halls. His live performances and occasionally record releases have made him a favorite in that part of the country most of us only see from 30,000 feet in the air, out of a jetliner's window. Too bad, the country should be seen up close, and Chuck Suchy's music should be heard.
Chuck's latest release Evening in Paris features twelve originals about his usual themes of small town and farm life, based on his experiences as a real working farmer on the Dakota prairie, working the family farm he took over from his father years ago. His songs are about simple things often overlooked or not appreciated in our lives. The title tune is about an old girlfriend and her fondness for dime store perfume, "Diminishing Winds" and "Cool in the Shade" are about enjoying the end of a hard day working the farm. "Hold Me" and "Matter of Faith" are simple romantic ballads, and "Money in this Town" is a commentary on city folks moving back to the country.
All 12 cuts were recorded at a Public Radio station in St. Paul, and feature Suchy's honest voice backed by a simple band of guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass, and steel guitar. If you want to enjoy a true singer-songwriter, in the same genre as John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, and Steve Goodman, and one that some Nashville or Hollywood producer hasn't jazzed up to sound like everyone else on commercial radio, I strongly suggest checking out North Dakota balladeer Chuck Suchy's latest release Evening in Paris on Little Bluestem Records.
