Not a patch on its predecessor.......2007-02-19

The first Gift of Love album is inspiring, insightful and leads the listener on a series of adventures through inspired words and music, creating a deep connnection with something profoundly mystical.

This second album is almost devoid of this depth and sadly, creates no connection. It seems like Deepak Chopra doesn't get that. There are a couple of very nice pieces but the album is mainly formulaic rather than insightful and I am dismayed to say leaves me feeling like I just listened to some music and nothing else.

If you like nice unhurried music that creates a relaxed atmosphere, you can't go past Cafe Del Mar. If you're looking to experience a sense of something spiritual, stick to the first Gift of Love album.

If you have read Rabindranath Tagore's poems I think you will be impressed with these new translations. I remember the first time I read one of his poems and the experience was an awakening to poetic wonder.

Within these poems, you may find yourself wandering in India, Africa or Spain. You may become lost walking across clouds or seduced into the pleasures of the invisible.

If you are a hopeless romantic, this musical journey with poetry will make you heady. If you love creating moods, this is perfect while taking a bath by candlelight. I'd highly recommend something like "Dream On" from Lush and perhaps the Flying Fox shower gel and an application of Flying Fox Jasmine temple balm. This CD whispers: "Play me in the dark with the flicker of at least 4 beautifully scented champaca candles." I can recommend the Ergo Champa candle or the Ergo Passion Rose de Mai.

The poems presented here seduce with soul longings and entangle you in magical stories of love. The entire CD is breathlessly beautiful and a true gift of love to anyone willing to spend the time diving deep into this mystery. I can also highly recommend Deepak's book: "The Soul In Love."

Consistently good throughout, even better than " A Gift of Love 1 " in that respect ( No offense to Rumi, whose poetry I adore also.)
All in all a masterpiece!

This CD is for anyone who is love or wishes to be. I found the content of this music very sexy, although quite clean in delivery. It evokes the feeling of romance in it's purest form.

I heard this once and then played it 100 times. Doubtlessly the most sensuous album ever. With incredible lyrics, the unmistakable deep and sensual voice of Deepak, and stunning music by Mr. Plack, you can't go wrong. If you are not in love now...you will be.

"Oceans of Love" is the third CD released by Lisa Lynne (Franco) and David Young as the duo Celestial Winds. As in their previous albums, their combination of Celtic harp and multiple recorders produces a captivating and timeless core sound that radiates gentle love and transcends the cares of the day. Here, their original compositions are enhanced by two guest instrumentalists and some electronic assistance; joining Lynne and Young are Tony Franklin on acoustic and fretless bass and Steve Reid on hand percussion and soundscapes. And besides harp and recorders, the featured duo also contributes mandolin, dulcimer, hammer dulcimer, bouzouki and guitar to the mix. For the first time, Lisa's harp is described in the liner notes as "electric", and her playing here on "Oceans of Love" (especially on tracks like #4 and #5) sounds rather like that of seminal New Age harpist Andreas Vollenweider, whose work is also highly recommended. If there's any question about Lisa Lynne being properly compensated for her contributions to this album and the two previous Celestial Winds CDs ("Celestial Winds I" and "Christmas Morning"), they are also available directly from her through her website, [...]. Try also "Seapeace" by harpist Georgia Kelly, and anything by flutist Dean Evenson and by electric harpist Andreas Vollenweider--all relaxing and transporting!

Street Fair Renaissance Music.......2006-08-01

I first heard this group live, under a small waxed-cotton tent, staked to a patch of grass a few feet away from a side-walk. To be more precise it was just Lisa Franco on the Harp and David Young on the recorders, at a street fair in Rochester, New York, not the four pice ensemble featured on this CD.

Imagine coming upon a tent with some of the wierdest and most beautiful music you've ever heard AND seeing a man with two mind-you, not one, but two recorders in his mouth, playing each separately with different hands and a girl playing the electric harp--both of them dress like characters from "The Pirates of the Caribean."

The man on the recorders was David Young who has gone to be a new age artist of his own right, but make no mistake, on this CD it's all about the harpest, Lisa Franco.

I seldom buy CDs from the actual artists at street fairs, but I did and I've never regreted it. Why? Because the name of this CD shouldn't be Oceans of Love, it should be Oceans of Seduction. You can read between the lines. This CD has brought me much joy.

I particularly like the Celtic version of the Door's classic "Light My Fire." Not only is it a great CD to play at the end of a promising date, it's a great Sunday morning drinking coffee in your slippers musical-moment-in-time just waiting to happen.

This group provides a soulfull, plush, saturation of sound that is pleasing to the soul as well as the senses. The combination of flute and harp is exquisite.

Singer is clearly talented, but voice is not the best. This entire cd seems to lack the soulful expression of singing and playing for which people listen to music. Marginal quality recording. Okay if you don't like music. Recommendation: Do not buy.

Farandouri in fine voice.......1999-02-28

Theodorakis has been writing fine music for a long time, and no one sings it as well as Maria Farandouri. This CD contains two song cycles, Poetica from 1995 and Faces of the Sun from 1987, the latter newly arranged for this recording. The instrumentation is adequate at best, and several of the musicians seem to lack empathy with the music or Theodorakis' style. However, Maria Farandouri is in fine voice, as always. When Theodorakis and Farandouri last toured Australia they were showing obvious signs of their age, Theodorakis stiff and Farandouri limping heavily. As they walked slowly onto the stage they were like wounded survivors of their many battles for freedom and humanity. They did not disappoint their audience then. And they do not disappoint on this CD. It contains some lyrical, warm and passionate songs. Most notable, the concluding song, "Aftoktonia efedrou minos" ("Suicide of a reserve month") has Farandouri singing with all of her heart and soul, in that rich low register which no other singer could ever emulate. Even after half a dozen playings, this song still makes my hair stand on end. Well worth having! [SW]
