I heard Rocco Deluca & the Burden for the first time at a John Mayer Performance at the Hollywood Bowl. I was in heaven. They have a great sound: classic rock and roll!

Refreshingly original..........2007-06-26

I've been a Jude Cole fan for ages and have praccitally all his work in my admittedly oversized music collection...when I heard Jude had started his own label I was particularly interested in what kind of stuff we'd be seeing. Well, Lifehouse's stuff has had the Jude Cole treatment and I can't complain. That's why when I heard Rocco DeLuca was on Jude's label, I knew I had to check it out. This is some excellent stuff that needs your attention...very stripped down, very straight forward, very nicely done. I wish Jude would come out with another CD but to hear his touch on stuff like this is just as good. "Colorful"..."Bus Ride"...Mystified"...
all this stuff makes me want to hear more. I hope these guys are around for a LONG time to come. But don't take my word for it...go ahead and buy this one!

Wow, this is ONE GREAT CD. Do yourself a big favor and BUY IT NOW. You can thank me later after you've played it 20-times in a row and are looking forward to the 21st. Original song writing, vocals, musicianship, production (cheers to Jude Cole), song arrangement and red hot single called Colorful (check out the video on VH1)!

All of the reviews I've seen try to compare this band it to other artists and bands. I remember when the Cars released their first CD and seeing a reviewer compare them to Lead Zeppelin and wondering what planet (other than earth) he was from. The same goes with this band. How about "this is a great band with an original sound"!

The flow of the CD makes you feel like you just sat through a concert. There are classic rockers like Colorful, How Fast, Gravity and Soul mixed with some beautiful acoustic numbers like Bus Ride and Mystified. The majority of the CD is rock. There are a couple of songs that have a blues feel like Swing Low.

Rocco Deluca's dad was a touring guitar player with some of the best blues artists in the business. Rocco followed in his footsteps backing up greats like Taj Mahal, John Mayall, John Lee Hooker and Johnny Cash. Needless to say he's been groomed his whole life to do this and it all comes together on this CD.

Complete from Start to Finish.......2007-05-10

Rarely is there an album I listen to in its entriety without skipping over lesser tracks. This slickly produced CD is an exception. Just about every track pops with an infectious energy that lifts your spirit. My faviorite tracks on the record are the first single "Colorful", "Swing Low", and "Soul". Believe the hype surrounding this band because they will eventually be huge.

should have been done later.......2007-03-22

i bought "Big Calm" before this album and was blown away. morcheeba has mastered the trip-pop sound on that album. my expectations for this album were fairly high considering the fact that i heard that it was more straight forward trip-hop. i've listened to this album several times and while it does have strong songwriting, i don't think morcheeba are good enough of a band to go this experimental on their first album. the comparisons musically and structurally on this compared to "Big Calm" are so obvious that in some instances i felt the order of release should have been reversed. there aren't enough singles and catchiness in this one to catch the attention of the listener, especially for a first time out band. i do appreciate the adventurous nature of it, but it just came out a bit to early.

Classic Trip Hop.......2006-04-19

Kind of hard to believe that it's been nearly a decade since Trip Hop was the next big thing. With a few exceptions, one of which is Morcheeba, much of the so called Trip Hop music now sounds dated, and hasn't aged very well.

Morcheeba came at it from a slightly different angle. As an example, I doubt you'll hear any other bands of the genre cover Neil Young, as Morcheeba did. They also got the attention of David Byrne, who in turn introduced them to Jim White. The Godfrey brothers would work, with great effect, on Byrne's "Feelings" and later Jim White's "No such place".

Among their peers, about the only one that comes to mind that still sounds pretty good is Portishead's "Dummy". "Who can you trust" and "Big calm" have, for the most part, stood the test of time, and sound great pretty much from beginning to end. By the time they released "Fragments of Freedom", the band was in the process of fragmenting, and the later releases just don't hold up.

Take a close look at the cover photo. If you know what it is, you'll instantly understand what inspired this album and the optimum state of mind in which to listen to it.

A Smokers Album.......2006-01-09

This album epitomizes "CHILL OUT" music, if you love great lyrics, female vocals, all-round great music and of course your a smoker of the greener persuasion then this is the album just for you. Buy it, and you'll love it!!

Johnny Jargon!

Trust in Morcheeba.......2005-04-13

I first discovered Morcheeba through "Big Calm", and after being completely blown away I had to collect their entire catalogue. This was my second Morcheeba album, and my favorite by far. "Trigger Hippie" and "Tape Loop" alone are worth the purchase price, but every track is top-notch. Skye Edwards' vocals slip into your subconscious and instantly melt away the stress of the day. Get yourself a couple bottles of wine, call up some good friends, throw this disc in the player and you're bound to have a good time.

Excellent chill music.......2004-12-09

This is the perfect cd to listen to while relaxing with some candles and incense burning. However, it's far from sedate. The sometimes trippy, other times upbeat music, paired with the awesome vocals and lyrics are the perfect fit for a chill evening or background music for many activities...
If you're sick of the radio and talentless pop, this is a great alternative. Music for those who actually listen. Check out the sample tracks, you'll like what you hear.

Diana Krall, here with her first GRP album, expands on the delights that populated her 1992 debut, Stepping Out. Again, her talents are simply remarkable: she sings with feeling, emotion, and nuance--she invests a lyric with believability--and plays marvelous piano, no matter the tempo. The program pleases on so many levels: slip the disc into the player, hit any track at random, and you'll be moved. Take the oh-so-slow, heartfelt groover "Squeeze Me," on which her alto is both breathy and demonstrative and her accompaniments are sly, and which features a winsome solo by bass maestro Ray Brown. On another gut-wrenching crawler, "All Night Long," Krall tears you up with her emotive, intimate vocal, interspersing her singing with telling, shimmering piano notes, then delivering a solo full of wry confidences. The succulent title track is a deliciously slow bossa where Krall's vocal is partly whispered, as if sung in your ear. More upbeat is the finger-popping "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby," where the artist sings with grit and life then solos with an economical drive. Tenor saxophone giant Stanley Turrentine adds a trademark saucy improvisation. "I Love Being Here with You" is a romping shuffle where Krall's voice hits some notes on the head and stretches others like pulled taffy. "Broadway" is another vibrant outing that includes a singing, fat-noted solo from bassist Christian McBride and Lewis Nash's deft brush work. Aces all around. --Zan Stewart

Cocktail pianist at best and no jazz vocalist.......2007-04-01

Because Ms Krall is accompanied by some outstanding musicians of the jazz genre I presume she is concerned to be recognized as a jazz singer and a jazz pianist. If this is so then I have to say her nasal twang, indifferent rhythmic sense, and poor understanding of the lyric makes her an indifferent jazz interpreter of the great american song book. To take "I've Got the World On A String" as an example, it may as well be sung by a computer. Embarrassing. As for her piano playing then she is an accomplished cocktail pianist but to place her in the jazz pantheon would be a considerable leap of pure faith.
On the slower tunes, she is more successful in a cutesy way as on "Squeeze Me". But I would think she must be the most overrated "jazz" artist of the last decade.

Diana Krall is the best. There has never been a sexier, sultrier voice. This CD does not disappoint. She continues to get better and better. I'd have given it 5 stars, but Live in Paris is her all time best.

What can I say? Diana is making me buy an entire album and this is the first time that I am buying albums as Christmas gifts. I am giving her album and Micheal Duble's self titled album to my closest friends. I send gifts that are high quality and thoughful gifts that I would personally enjoy (Just in case they are sent back). Both albums are kick ***, making this a banner year. All this and QE on Bravo TV! Color me happy!

A real jazz album.......2003-08-24

Whatever you may think of Diana's more recent crossover music (which I think is brilliant), this early album demonstrates clearly that her music is rooted in jazz. There is no crossover here - it's pure jazz. Diana sings and plays piano, backed by a small but select band comprising a bass player (sometimes Ray Brown, sometimes Christian McBride), a drummer (Lewis Nash) and a ten saxophonist (Stanley Turrentine).

Like so many of Diana's albums, this one relies heavily on songs from the first half of the twentieth century, beginning with Louis Jordan's classic Is you or is you ain't my baby. Other classic songs featured here include Squeeze me (Duke Ellington) and two songs associated with Peggy Lee (I love being here with you, The folks who live on the hill). The only original is the closing bluesy instrumental, CRS craft.

This is a fine album that will particularly appeal to jazz aficionados. It may even expand the market as fans of Diana's later music learn to appreciate jazz. But some of those fans may not like this - if in doubt, listen to some of it before buying.

Stanley and Diana.......2003-04-18

Oddly, little mention in the customer reviews of Stanley Turrentine's presence on the recording. It's what makes this album different from --and hotter than --any other of Ms. Krall's fabulous work. Example: No doubt about it --Diana and the band supremely cook on the song "I Love Being Here with You" from her latest Paris live recordings. But on this version, Turrentine's tenor sax steers the tune up the onramp and into overdrive. He's jazzy enough to be interesting but stays sane and faithful to the melody. Which matches Diana's musical style, I think. But whether it's Stanley Turrentine, Ray Brown, Christian McBride, Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, etc., it's testament to Ms. Krall's ability to attract and lead such superb associates. And at such a tender age, though she was no overnight sensation at this point, having played professionally since her teens.

Still, one of my favorites cuts on the CD is saxless: the dreamy "All Night Long." Diana's lilting piano solo and sultriness interpret the plaintive mood of the piece perfectly.

Her three subsequent recordings are maybe a little more softened and refined. That's not at all a bad thing, but I tend to listen more to this CD, its predecessor, "Stepping Out" or the two recent killers "The Look of Love" and "Live in Paris." "Only Trust Your Heart," among all her recordings, is Diana at her most muscular, both vocally and instrumentally. Even on the slower pieces she reaches decibel levels more likely to be heard only in her concerts. Maybe it's Turrentine's influence. In any case, it's just nice to hear Diana prove that she can belt `em out.

I remember buying this the first day it came out, I was really curious to hear what the Damning Well and Puscifer would sound like, I was not displeased. I also really enjoyed the David Bowie track, overall this is an above average soundtrack, at least I though so.

One of the best soundtracks to a movie ever........2007-05-26

Usually I'm not big on soundtracks, but this is by far my favorite soundtrack ever. The whole album was produced by Danny Lohner, the second best person to be in Nine Inch Nails after Trent. The first song, Awakening by The Damning Well (Danny Lohner, Richard Patrick, Wes Borland) is my favorite song on there. It's just a classic hard rock song with very melodic vocals done brilliantly by Richard Patrick. The second song, REV 22:20 by Puscifer (Maynard James Keenan, Danny Lohner) is another one of my favorites on the album and it has the sentual type vibe to it with extra vocals by Milla. All of the songs are really good, and I'm not just saying that. The Page Hamilton song was also good. Hell, all of them are worth listening to. The album will be worth the amount of money you spend, I can tell you that. It has some great collaborations and thats what got me interested in it in the first place. That and the fact that I'm a huge Danny Lohner fan (and he did a great job with this, by the way). I highly recommend it!

Better than I thought..........2006-10-15

I bought this album because iTunes wouldn't let me download the Puscifer track unless I downloaded the entire album... the rest of the CD actually isn't all that bad.

It took me months to buy this because I bought Underworld Evolution for one track and the rest of the CD wasn't anything to climax about. Songs like "Rev 22:20", "Optimissed", "Bring Me The Head of the Disco King", "Awakening", and every Renholder track on this album make it worth buying. I'd mention the A Perfect Circle tracks, but I already had those so they weren't new. They're a nice addition, though.

I never watched the movie so I can't really say if the songs fit in with the theme and feel of the film.

This CD is definately better than its sister. If you're thinking about buying one or the other, go with this one first.

Typical rock soundtrack.......2006-08-12

Costello At His Best..........2004-12-24

'Trust' is, without a doubt, Elvis Costello's most original record; it's also his strongest. One day the critics will wise up, until then, it's our little secret. Buy this.

Essential EC.......2004-01-05

As some of the other reviewers have pointed out, its incredibly hard to really pick a "best" EC album between '77 and '86 simply because the man just made some remarkably amazing music. Whats interesting to note about this record is that it followed "Taking Liberties"/"Ten Bloody Marys.." (a collection of b-sides) and "Get Happy!" (an homage to soul). So is this really Costello's fourth album? Theres no denying, its musically closer to the first three releases and by god its really damn good. Theres a few tracks I'm not so hot on like "Shot with his own gun" but the rest is gold. The lyrical maturity shows on tracks like "You'll never be a man", and "Sad about girls" is one the best songs ever left off an album. Listen to this album, weep with joy.

Elvis Becomes a Singer.......2003-12-18

"Trust" broke form with earlier Elvis Costello albums in a major way. For the first time, Elvis shifted focus from the brute force of his music to presenting himself more as a vocalist. Where he would often just bellow the songs out (think "Goon Squad" or most of "Get Happy"), on "Trust" he began to explore his range. A fair amount of this might have to do with the liner notes continual references to EC's increased drinking problems, but probably more to his budding relationship with Chris Difford of Squeeze. That friendship led to one of the album's highlights when Difford's bandmate Glenn Tillbrook joined EC on "From A Whisper To A Scream." (Squeeze got the favor returned when Elvis co-produced "East Side Story" and added his voice to the classic "Tempted.")

Elvis was also in the middle of something of a writer's draught, which meant that he polished up a few older tunes from his pre-Aim days, and left a couple of songs sounding less than stellar. "You'll Never Be A Man," "Luxembourg" and "Big Sister's Clothes" were the first times I'd ever felt that the songs on an Elvis album were filler (hence the 4 star rating). Not like it mattered, because along with "New Lace Sleeves" and "From A Whisper to a Scream," there was the magnificent "Shot With His Own Gun," a stunning piano ballad. That particular song upped the ante for Elvis the writer, as well as being perfectly realized as a vocalist. (It could also be viewed as a precursor to "Imperial Bedroom's" "The Long Honeymoon" and "Almost Blue.")

Like many of Elvis' albums, "Trust" has aged delightfully. While many may have dismissed it upon release as EC mellowing out, it was actually the maturation point where Elvis the "Angry Young Man" became the classic tunesmith that would carry into the soon to come "Imperial Bedroom."

Trusting his instincts.......2003-10-19

Very few have sung the praises of Trust and for three simple reason; it had no breakthrough hit singles, lacked the sparkle of the new (like his first two releases)and lacked the exposure of his first three albums. It's also quite probably his best album. There's a mixture of the old and the new here; some of the material dates from before My Aim Is True so it echoes some of his earlier material in theme and approach while the newer stuff hints at a lyrical depth only fleetingly glimpsed on his best albums.

At the time of its release Trust was seen as something of a comedown; it was merely another Elvis Costello album with Nick Lowe at the helm. It lacked the sparkle of Costello's brighter, poppier melodies but the music had a depth and sophistication that clearly showed that EC was still a work in progress. From the opening number Clubland with its brilliant piano flourishes courtesy of Steve Nieve to the brutal From a Whisper to a Scream with Glenn Tilbrook's warm tenor dueting with EC, Trust provided a glimpse into EC's current state of mind. It would be superceded by the brilliant Pet Sounds/Pepper homage Imperial Bedroom but never surpassed. Yes, EC would continue to develop as a songwriter with the next album but this was EC distilled down to his very essence; quirky, powerful, catchy songwriting with the bite of a doberman.

This newely remastered expanded edition has extensive liner notes, lyrics and some gems that didn't appear on the generous Rykodisc version released nearly a decade ago. The sound quality is spiffier sounding with deeper, richer sound but its still essentially the same album. Here EC elected to do as he did with the previous reissues; present the original album without any bonus tracks to mar the flow of the album and then a second disc with all the bonus tracks packaged together. It works. Trust should be, first and foremost, presented in its original format. Unlikely later releases (notably the weak, overproduced and glossy sounding Goodbye Cruel World and Punch The Clock).

The second disc is augmented with 8 bonus tracks consisting of alternate versions of material that appears on the main album. While the differences aren't always huge, the performances and the power packed into each make them worthwhile additions. The final track consists of the original piano demo for The Long Honeymoon (from Imperial Bedroom). It's interesting to contrast the simplicity of this demo to the final, elaborate version that made it to the EC/Geoff Emerick produced version.

While none of these alternate versions/early demos are relevations, they add a fresh feeling and a new appreciation for EC's craftmanship. Yes, he's an inspired, frequently brilliant artist but one that also is enamored with the craft necessary to make the music work. It's the last glimpse we'll get of the fire driven angst of EC until Blood and Chocolate. It's also the next to last album in a string of unbroken brilliantly realized classic albums.

Can Stars trust their friends?.......2007-05-23

Stars' "Set Yourself On Fire" is one of my favorite indie albums of all time, and my definite favorite on the Arts and Crafts label. The album built upon the romanticized themes of their first two albums, while also proving the band to be a truly musically talented group. As the cliche goes, the album will always have a special place in my heart. When I first heard that Stars' masterpiece was going to be reworked by some of the most talented indie artists around today, I was both excited and worried at the same time. Did I really want this great album to be messed with? Were these talented musicians qualified to tackle this project and do it justice? Can Stars trust their friends?

The tracklist to "Do You Trust Your Friends?" is set up the same as the album it is based on. As such, most of it feels like a tribute album rather than a full-fledged remix/cover album. Also, with the exception of a few tracks, most of the original fantastic vocal work has been left in. This is a good thing, as the vocals are arguably the most attractive aspect of Stars' music.

In "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead," the lead-off and standout track from the first album, Final Fantasy takes on the huge task of recreating the cinematic feel of the original. It seems that this would be the best fit, as Owen Pallett is fantastic at composing intricate piano and string songs. However, despite his lush arrangement, the song feels very empty, and never builds into the epic grandeur of the original. It is a much more solemn song this time around, but not necessarily better. On Montag's version of "Set Yourself On Fire," layers upon layers of drums, guitars, synths, and electronics complement the vocals quite nicely without overpowering them.

My favorite track on the album has to be "Ageless Beauty" by The Most Serene Republic. Here, Amy Milan's beautiful declaration of "We will always be in love," is given new life thanks to the folksy guitars and piano that the band has implemented. I was never the biggest fan of the original, but this is a version that I can truly love. Not content to just reuse old vocals, Jason Collett opts to do a full-on cover of "Reunion." Like the songs that precede it, it offers a completely different take on Stars' music, and it does so nicely. The song now has a very southern rock feel to it, and it sounds great!

The album starts to drag a little bit with Minotaur Shock's version of "The Big Fight" which is a shallow and bland electronic rendition of a great song. If that wasn't enough, The Dears take it upon themselves to ruin what was probably the most exciting and uplifting song on "Set Yourself On Fire" with their version of "What I'm Trying To Say," which is inexplicably split into two parts. It's depressing that one of my favorite bands could completely destroy this great song. The Dears are capable of much better than this, to be sure. The album picks up again with "One More Night" covered by Apostle of Hustle. Their version of the song is not better than the original, but it is an interesting take on it nonetheless.

The Russian Futurists' version of "The First Five Times" utilizes power chords and breakbeats to make a somewhat decent reworking of the original song. This was never my favorite song to begin with, and this version doesn't change my mind about that. However, it is ambitious, and therefore worth a few courtesy listens. Metric's version of "He Lied About Death" is really the only other notable track on the album. While I'm a little disappointed to hear that the awesome saxophone solo from the original is not reused, it is refreshing to hear that the band was smart enough to leave out the absolutely childish lyric "I hope your drunken daughters are gay" (even if they do rely too heavily on the "Don't f*** with our lives" lyric).

So can Stars trust their friends? Well, they can trust some of them. Some bands like The Most Serene Republic and Jason Collett do a fantastic job of paying tribute to the original work, while others (The Stills and The Dears) completely destroy something that was once amazing. In the end, my opinion of "Do You Trust Your Friends?" is just as mixed as the quality of the songs it contains. This is not an album you'll listen to for months, or weeks for that matter. It's an album you pick up if you really loved "Set Yourself On Fire." It's an album you get if you want to hear talented musicians rework a classic collection of songs. But it's also an album that you'll wind up disappointed in. Despite the caliber of the artist contained within, "Do You Trust Your Friends" is a disappointment, plain and simple.

Recommended for fans of Stars and anyone who really likes to ruin works of art.

Fans of rock and heavy metal will not be disapointed with the driving beat and heavy guitar solos. Amazing clairity of notes compared to some songs where you are not sure where the guitarist is going.

The best part is the uplifting message you get without being sappy or uncool. Non-Christian rockers may not be use to the name of Jesus being used in a song (interesting how Satan may be mentioned and no one has a problem with that) These are written with God in mind and still kicks out incredible wrifs and sounds made famous during the "glam" age of rock.

This is definatly a "hair" band of the 80's with powerful presents that you can compare to "Poison, Cinderella, and the like". Lead singer hits high notes many will not try. If you like this - you must get the "Soldiers under Command" album which does all this and showcases more dirty guitar with monster layering I would compare to "Metallica"

IF YOU LIKED TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL.....THIS IS PART 2 .......2005-11-29

This album is To Hell With The Devil Part 2. It starts off with a somewhat heavy song and one they have started their concerts with, the title track "In God We Trust." Then it goes right into the first single from the album "Always there for you". "Keep The Fire Buring" is next and has good vocal harmonies on it. It was also released as a single. And of course the ballad "I believe in you" (that really is a good song) is track 4. So far this is layered just like To Hell With The Devil. Opening track followed by three singles released from the band and also in the same order. A melodic song(Always there for you/Calling On You), to a Heavier song(Keep The Fire Burning/Free) and the ballads(I believe In You/Honestly). And of course you have "It's Up 2 You" that is like "Sing Along Song" and they are even both the first song on the second side of the albums!! I am not saying this is bad, not at all. If you like To Hell With The Devil then you are guaranteed to like this one.

Robert Sweet once said this album is about getting people to want to be Christians for the wonders of Heaven and not the fear of Hell. This album does seem "lighter" than To Hell With The Devil" and just because I said the albums sound the same does not mean these songs cannot hold their own. "Keep The Fire Burning" "The World Of You And I" "In God We Trust" "I Believe In You" and even "It's Up 2 You" with it's radio friendly sound is pretty good. The others on here are what you can expect from a Stryper album except maybe "The Reign" which is a very fast song and one some fans really like. I could never really get into it even after several listens.

This Album will not disappoint fans of To Hell With The Devil or any of the previous albums by Stryper. It is nothing new but it remains a favorite of many Stryper fans. "I Believe In You" could actually be the best ballad the band has made. While not as popular as "Honestly" this one is a very underated song from Stryper as it features some of Michaels best vocals on it. Would be great to hear this one live!! This album was also the last one that had straight forward Christian lyrics. The next album was the controversial "Against The Law" that was unfairly received by fans of the band. I have a review of that one if you want to check it out.

I have been a Stryper Fan since their debut in the early 80's, from their first album "The Yellow and Black Attack" to their latest "Reborn". And I have to say that "In God We Trust" was truly the peak of the band's career. The album is nearly flawless in every aspect. Michael Sweet's incredible vocals shine throughout every song and lyric. The album's hit "Always There For You" was a huge hit on MTV and in my opinion was one of their most inspirational songs to date. If you know Stryper, you will know some of their incredible ballads such as Honestly, All of Me, My Love I will Always Show" and on this album "I Believe In You", which are all unique. Unfortunately, this CD has received some harsh criticism from other viewers. It seems to me that whenever an artist or group ventures into uncharted territory, fans get fickle and overly critical and narrow minded. But I think if you listen with an open mind, you will appreciate the direction and quality of this album, which is unlike any of their other work.

Stryper did proove itself again with "In God we trust". Excellent tracks of 10 hard rock tunes. Your neck might be sore after you listen to it a couple times in a row. Head bangers get use to it though! There is no profanity in the music which is great for kids that are into the hard rock scene, I saw them back in the late 1980's in a church setting! Although they also played arenas as well!

If you haven't heard of the worldwide phenomenon known as STRYPER (an acrostic for SALVATION THROUGH REDEMPTION YIELDING PEACE, ENCOURAGEMENT, and RIGHTEOUSNESS), you must have been hiding in a bomb shelter somewhere during the last two decades. Stryper is, without a doubt, the greatest musical group in the history of mankind. To say anything else would be idiotic and superficial. Composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin, and bands like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and The Who --they don't even come close to the musical genius, originality, and burning fervor of STRYPER. They're merely unoriginal, untalented, imitators of these four gloriously attractive, spandex covered men. "In God We Trust" really shows their true musical genius and their penchant for wearing bumblebee-style spandex.

If you are still reading this review and actually believe me, I not only pity you, I hope that you are hit by a speeding car within 24 hours. (Kidding of course) I know it isn't fair to make fun of an artist because of what they wear, but in this case, IT'S JUST TOO EASY. Go to their website www.stryper.com and look at them. I need not comment more. On top of that, their music....sucks. EXCESS sums them up perfectly. Too much hair, too many cheesy guitar solos, too much pre-pubescent vocal stylings, too many "strypes", too many

SERIOUSLY, NOW. My real criticism of Stryper and most of Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) today is that fact that it markets Christianity like it would market a clothing style or a new product. Christianity is not up for sale, nor should it ever be, regardless if you believe in it or not. It cheapens its value and makes it *less* genuine to the world.

That said, I have to admit that Michael Sweet and the boys of Stryper often make me laugh because they actually think they are legitimately cool.

Happy music hunting. Please, whatever you do, do not take this album, even if you are paid to do it.

If you favor blend, balance, pitch, and all the other parameters of the English traditional choral style, you'll be very impressed with the Tallis Scholars' refined presentation. the music speaks for itself.

The Tallis Scholars do their namesake proud.......2006-07-27

In the last couple of years, the Tallis Scholars have been compiling their sizeable recording output into attractive two-disc editions. Here, they've collected a large number of their interpretations of their namesake, Thomas Tallis. Tallis (c. 1505-1585) is, of course, one of the giants of Renaissance music, and he was certainly the greatest English composer of liturgical music between John Dunstable and William Byrd. I personally consider him the second-greatest Renaissance composer after Palestrina, but I'm not dogmatic about it. I love the music of Josquin, Victoria, and Byrd almost as much. Let's just say that, if you're interested in immersing yourself in the work of a single Renaissance composer, you can't do much better than Tallis.

These recordings were made 1985-1998, and they all sound great. Included in this collection are most of Tallis best and best-known works: the two Lamentations of Jeremiah, O Sacrum Convivium, Gaude Gloriosa, Tunes for Archbishop Parker's Psalter (which contains the theme that inspired Ralph Vaughan Williams' famous Fantasia), and the incredible 40-part motet Spem In Alium (which is one of the supreme masterpieces of the 16th century). Unfortunately, there are some notable absences, such as the Tallis Scholars' own recording of O Nata Lux. The Mass for 4 Voices, certainly one of Tallis' major works, is also nowhere to be found. Of course, there's only so much music that will fit onto two CDs, but it's still a shame that they couldn't fit at least one of Tallis' masses. Nevertheless, the music that's here is beautiful and powerful.

The Tallis Scholars themselves need no introduction. They're one of the most famous groups specializing in Renaissance music. It needs to be said, however, that if you're looking for "authentic" recordings (that is, recordings that approximate what the music originally sounded like in the 16th century), you might want to look elsewhere. The Tallis Scholars use female singers instead of boys or (ahem!) castrati (though it's doubtful that Tallis would have used or written for castrati himself). And one could complain that these recordings use too many singers for some of the smaller pieces or that the sopranos overpower some of the larger ones (like Spem In Alium). I'm neither an enthusiast nor an opponent of the authentic-performance movement; since we're listening to recorded music anyway, these issues strike me as moot. The Tallis Scholars are experienced and accomplished singers, and they achieve their primary goal: to provide superlative-sounding recordings of important early choral compositions. If you're looking for a fine compilation of Tallis' music or an excellent introduction to Renaissance music, this is it.

Though this semi-anguished boy-metal group claims that lock-jawed Helmet is a primary influence (and layers of frayed guitar chords support that claim) Trust Company are better characterized as a simpler and slightly more heartfelt relative of Linkin Park. Minus the turntables and digital tricks, but laden with revealing lyrics, a wide guitar sound, and thumping rock rhythms, Trust Company charge fearlessly through the gaping hole in the pop landscape left by more famous contemporaries. Thanks to Linkin producer Don Gilmore, their major-label debut is smoother than those of Papa Roach and Puddle of Mudd. To their detriment, they're sometimes lulled by the slickness of their polished hooks. Like the title implies, the ride is more impressive when the band dares to veer beyond its own neutrality. --Ian Christe

This is a great CD. It's catchy and it's pretty heavy.

Now, one thing i must say, is that i've seen a lot of reviews for this CD that says that they are similar to Linkin Park. Now, i've had this CD for years, and i've never once had Linkin Park come to mind. Never. I've never even heard of someone comparing them to Linkin Park until i came to Amazon and read the reviews. But yeah, that's to be expected, since people like to show their online muscles in the form of bashing bands on Amazon.

But that's beside the point. This is about the CD. The truth is, that this CD isn't ground breaking. I'm not going to lie and say otherwise. I do not feel that this band has brought anything new to the table. It's just a rock CD that rocks. It's heavy and it has some good catchy songs. And that's really what's most important to me. Yes, it's nice to rock out to ground breaking, original music. What people don't seem to realize is that not every band can/will bring something new to the table.

Basically, what i'm saying is just appreciate this CD for what it is. Good, fun hard rock. Nothing more, nothing less. That's it really. Simple as that.

(Warning: The word "catchy" will be overused in this review)

Sure, TLPON contains simplistic music. Sure, the lyrics are slightly depressing and all run together. And sure, it's very polished and overproduced. But I'm willing to forgive TrustCompany completely, because I don't think I will ever come across a cd EVER that is as perfectly catchy as this one. It's amazing how all the hooks and ALL THE VERSES!! are simply infectious. TC somehow developed a "magic formula" that enabled them to churn out hook after hook with remarkable consistency. Going song by song...

1) Downfall: First single and sucked me into the band. It was one of my favorite songs ever when I heard it and still remains a classic.

2) Falling Apart: More than any other song on the CD, this one truly gets better with each listen. I don't know what else to say but amazing. Of special note is the breathtaking pre-chorus (if that's what you call it).

3) Hover: Simply incredible song, and my favorite on the album. (Unless it's Falling Apart) I really think this should've been the second single instead of...

4) Running From You: Second single, and quite honestly one of the weaker songs. It just doesn't grab me like the rest of them do. It's still a great track; it's just in such quality company. I'm starting to appreciate it more now but overall it's not as accessible as most of the rest.

5) Slipping Away: Just another infectious hook that you'll find yourself singing all the time. And those crazy, push-the-envelope guys throw you for a loop with an offbeat guitar pattern at the beginning.

6) Figure 8: Harder, more driving than the other songs. Another amazingly catchy hook. Grows on me.

7) The Fear: This ballad just might be the catchiest song on the album. It's just like candy in song form.

8) Deeper Into You: You'd think that by this point in the CD, they'd have run out of steam, right? WRONG! It's just a testament to the quality of the CD that such a catchy, soaring song can be stuck back here where there'd normally be filler.

9) Drop to Zero: A little less catchy than most of the rest but it has its moments. The "DROP!" after the intro gets you bobbing your head along with the music, unique on a CD where you're normally focused on the melodies. The resolution of the song is wonderful too.

10) Finally: For me this song sticks out quite a bit from the rest. I spoke of a "magic formula" that seems to craft all the songs on the CD, but this one is a deviation. It's creative and relatively complex, more spacey and atmospheric than the other songs. And some of the lyrics are actually positive and hopeful!, which is echoed by nice hopeful-sounding guitar loops throughout the song. Oh, and it's a great song.

11) Take It All: A fitting closer containing a driving intro, some nice running guitar lines, and probably the simplest and catchiest hook on the album.

In conclusion, if you're a fan of modern rock, listen to this album. It's incredibly catchy, but you could not at all consider it "pop rock". And it doesn't just "rely" on it's catchiness-the musicality, while not too complex, provides just the right support for and blends in perfectly with the vocals. (It may still seem like I'm just a sucker for a catchy song. While I admit that's often true, I'd also like to say that my musical tastes definitely expand beyond that to harder or experimental rock, so I'd like to think I'm fairly credible with this review.) Anyways, this CD doesn't try to be anything it's not...it is what it is, and what it is is a simple, catchy work of magic.

very emo.......2006-06-29

this album is hella emo! no offense or anything. but seriously. they need to get something more to write about. some songs are good. i like downfall and hover alot for some reason. there are great riffs and good drum beats. the bass lines are okay.... but other than that the lyrics just tear apart this album. The sound of new metal. not that bad for a debut. get some iron maiden, judas priest, metallica (early days), MEgadeth, Anthrax, Queen, and maybe motorhead. cuz they rule.

I am a huge fan of Trust Company! There 1st CD is a great combination of Love and Loss, and of course being lonely. I feel every single song they made. It's Great. Kind of "emo'ish", alternative, punk rock style CD. I'm All for it!
