It grew on me.......2003-07-06

At first listening, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. There is a lot of stuff going on including an occasional shrieking monkey. I could not listen to this CD for general relaxing or background music. Out of desperation, because a thunderstorm CD died, we popped this one in to fall asleep to, and it's now a favorite, for that purpose. Perhaps it's just because we live near the LA harbor, like to sleep with the windows open and this sufficiently drowns out the noise. It works and is favored. It also seemed to increase the bird population in the area.

This CD just about drove me nuts. I understand that rain is to be expected in a rainforest,but after listening to this recording my pets were lining up two-by-two. This CD is for you if you love a long rain and dripping sounds. I hated it; it was monotonous and I could swear that there were portions that were repeated because the person recording it had to fill up some space and nothing was available.Save your money!

Pleasant but overdone on bird sounds, sounding as children.......2000-08-02

The Gentle Persuasion Sound Of Nature series most likely has more promise than experienced in this CD. I love to hear the sounds of rushing waters, rain storms, swaying tree branches with the leaves touching each other and the sounds of birds. So, on the face of things, why not this CD? For some, it may be more valuable or enjoyable.

I like to listen while at the CPU or resting. The sounds of the waters are authentic and refreshing to hear. However, they lack something. Maybe the symetry is not there. Or maybe it is the clash.

As the CD starts suddenly some sounds come through the speakers. I look around and ask myself "Where is the crying child?" Some of the bird sounds replicate crying children. The sounds of children and birds are both beautiful. They are life. The rain forests are alive. They normally live in harmony.

For whatever reasons I find the producers of this CD have perhaps gone for overkill. There is a lack of harmony. Some of the bird sounds are dissonant yet fit in. Others though do not seem authentic, no matter what the writers say.

This CD plays for 60 minutes. The writing on the back cover is very moving. Would that the CD's sounds be so interwoven as the writers depict?

I hope someone else will review this CD just to get another viewpoint. I listen to many nature CDs. I had high hopes when acquiring this VHS at an Internet auction. Perhaps other Gentle Persuasion CDs will be more harmonious. I will try to find either "Electrifying Thunderstorms" or "The Cry of the Loon." Having lived in northern Wisconsin for a while, I have a fine authentic Loon cassette.

The CD is okay. Maybe the fact it was cut in 1989 has something to do with the less-than ideal consistent sound quality. Yet one can easily pick up other CDs with nature sounds or symphonies being played and find better sonority.

Best ever recorded.......2007-01-18

I am surprised there is only 8 reviews for this. I am a long time (very long) latin music fan, own over 1,000 albums in different formats (cd, lp, etc.) and this is without question the BEST salsa album of all time. Maybe you could make an argument about Larry Harlow's Hommy, or El Gran Combo's "Aqui no se Sienta Nadie," but this is a more complete, well rounded compilation, simply said, if you own ONE salsa album, it should be this one. Every song was a hit, every song is a classic.

Qué mas se puede decir..........2002-02-13

¿Se puede agregar algo más a esta altura sobre este CD? Pienso que muy poco, excepto una apreciación personal. "Siembra" es un clásico de la salsa, aunque no el disco de Rubén que más me gusta. Prefiero la variedad y la temática de "La Rosa de los Vientos" y "Maestra Vida", pero "Siembra" es una piedra fundamental, un disco que abre puertas y caminos. Por si queda alguna duda sobre su calidad, basta decir que acá viene "Pedro Navaja", un himno de Latinoamérica y de la salsa, un himno, un clásico.

Es definitivamente el mejor disco de salsa de todos los tiempos. El equilibrio refinado entre el contenido y la calidad musical es inigualable. Representa un fin y sintesis de la era de oro de la musica latina de los '70. Es cierto Hector Lavoe es cantante de los cantantes, Celia, Rivera y Feliciano los mas grandes soneros, pero el duo Colon - Blades en este album es simplemente perfecto. Todas las piezas de este disco son exitos por si mismas. 5 estrellas no bastan. 6 estrellas!

If you don't have it, your Salsa collection is simply incomplete! My original LP mysteriously disappeared years ago. I got it as soon as the CD format was issued. You can dance to this one all by yourself! Colon & Blades own the hearts of Salseros everywhere by producing this classic.

The Title Tells The Story.......2002-07-17

I read the review from the music lover in Minneapolis and while I can understand his/her disappointment with this CD if you were expecting a Soca or Reggae Love Songs CD, you have to remember that Byron Lee goes way, way back and much of his music was love songs long before Soca or Reggae even made the scene. I like the soca, reggae stuff too, but the "Soft Lee" series really brings back a lot of fond memories of the Byron Lee music I remember from the 60's. I love the music on this CD.

Can you say disappointment?.......1999-05-13

I've had this CD from the moment it was released and have never listened to it again. Maybe I just didn't know what to expect, but I was disappointed that this was not a soca love song CD.

It's...unique..........2003-07-12

I bought this CD a few months ago. It's okay... mostly. Just as your sitting down to relax and listen to the sounds of the rainforest, you're sent five feet in the air thanks to a horrific yell from some kind of monkey or something. When you think it's finished, the monkey starts again. It seems to yell forever. When it's FINALLY finished, all of the good rainforest noises are over, and you're stuck listening to some rain or a creek or something.

This CD is awfull. I now know why there's no picture of it!

I give this two stars because it's not so bad if you ignore the monkey, and I had fun watching my cat DESTROY it!

Save your five bucks........2002-04-20

I figured I'd try this CD out -- after all, it's inexpensive. Unfortunately, it is bad.

The CD has only one track that is just over 58min long. The first 5 minutes (maybe more) is occasionally punctuated by some horrific creature that screams like a crying baby. Startling is an understatement.

The rest of the CD is low quality recording of a babbling brook which occasionally fades to one channel (as if you were turning away from the brook) only to suddenly jump back to equal volume in both left and right channels.

The final conclusion: avoid this CD like the plague.

Fantastic !!!!!.......1999-03-23

If you love Soca music that compells you to dance..this is a must have. Byron Lee and the Dragonaires lives !! At age 9 I met them at the Ward theater in Kingston. They made me dance on stage them and decades later they are still compelling me to get up and dance !!!
