Hypnotic, relaxing and calmingý.......2001-03-23

I know very little about how to mediate or know anything about mediation. However, I do know when I listen to Jim's CD I can zone out and relax. The stress of the day bleeds out of me. Can you drive across the country listening to this disc? No. Can you put this disc on and fade away into your mind? Yes. For that reason alone this CD is better than any music CD released to date.

Jim Donovan's work on Indigo is by no means something ment to dance around to, or to listen to on your way to work, however, it is an excellent album for it's purposes. In Indigo, Jim Donovan has created a trance-enducing mix of ancient Shamanistic instruments with Vedic chants. The music continues uninterupted in one long, hour-long track that is intended for use as a tool in relaxation, or in meditation. The music is the same for the entire length of the album, however, for anyone that has attempted deep meditation through the aid of such music, it will be understood that this is a greater boon than it would first appear.

Like I said, while it's true that you aren't going to feel like dancing around with a big, shiny grin on your face well...maybe...) to this music as you might listening to Jim Donovan's work with Rusted Root, if you listen to this album in the state of mind and for the purposes suggested by Donovan in the liner notes, you will definetly enjoy everything that this album has to offer.

The CD consists of the same repetitive guitar noodling with random drum beat and someone making a noise between a chant and a gargle in the background. It is a continuous loop of the same sound.

Deeply moving journey.......2004-07-20

I'm a little late sharing my praises for this disc, I have owned Indigo for 6 years, and not once has it failed to alter my mind and body to a better place. This music creates such a perfect place, an unexplainable but very comforting "presence" is in this music. Whether it is to relax, re-center myself or shake off negativity, this CD is what I reach for. I recently played this for myself in our livingroom and after it ended, my husband came in from the other room and asked what I was playing. He said it was extremely moving and had relaxed him. What a testiment. Highly recommend

Warning: If you do data entry or any repetetive activity for a living, setting this CD on auto replay while working may impede your feeling the usual levels of stress, frustration, cynicism, helplessness, and rage for an individual in your position.

This music seems to act on something like an unconscious level, keeping one focused and not bored. Do not listen to this recording at work unless you (and those around you) can handle calm, pleasant moods and don't mind finding it's time to go home hours before you're ready.

I read a review of this in the Rusted Root newsletter and on a whim decided to buy it if I ever found it. The CD is an hour of the same melody repeated over and over, with OM thrown in and a few hard-to-catch surprises. At first it sounded like the same stuff over and over, but this is great music to read by, to study to, to sleep with, to make love to, or just relax and turn off the lights, light a candle, and get in touch with rarely visited inner self. My home was burglarized and all 400 CDs were stolen. When it came time to replace them, I obviously didn't buy 400 at once, but "Indigo" was among the first batch of replacements. It grows on you and lulls you to a state of ecstasy. Too bad Rusted Roots recent albums haven't been this good...

Wonderful music for work, meditation, or play.......1999-02-03

This is a deeply satisfying piece, a beautiful accompaniment to meditation, yoga, prayer, or even just sitting and thinking about things. I've found it somehow supports my work as well, though, helping to clear and focus my mind as I type. And my baby daughter loves it!
