Intoxicating Listening Experience.......2007-01-13
Anyone who loves Celtic music or who is simply caught up in the new age inspired by the Lord Of The Rings trilogy will adore this CD. The tragic, romantic Irish legend of Deirdre is brought to stunning melodic life - Mychael Danna and Jeff Danna have created a harmonious, haunting ensemble with a variety of instruments, including uillean pipes, higland pipes, penny whistles and the Celtic harp. If you feel that you are being transported back and time and are seeing this story unfold you are not alone. I was throughly enchanted by this CD and I feel all the more proud of my Celtic and Anglo-Saxon roots because of it. Sit back, enjoy, and prepare to be enthralled!
Awesome.......2007-01-06
I purchased another CD from Mychael and Jeff Danna, "The Legend of Liadain and Curithir" and wanted to see if their other works were just as good. They didn't disappoint. The music on "The Legend of Deidre" is very moving and pulls the listener in. Not to mention I love being able to read the actual legend that inspired the music.
Lost in a living legend.......2006-08-07
The brothers O'Danna have done an excellent job on this recording. Every time I listen to it, I feel like I'm immersed in the Legend of Deirdre. The orchestration is balanced yet creative, the portrayals epic yet believeable, and the songs unique yet unified.
Bagpipes feature heavily in these recordings, so you might not care for some of the songs if you don't like that sound. I, however, was utterly enchanted by the CD despite my predisposition against that instrument.
"A Celtic Tale" is haunting in its beauty, and I cried over its songs more than once. If you love the Celtic style and enjoy an emotional musical setting, then this CD is definitely for you.
No legend story on this disc - be forewarned.......2006-06-25
I bought "A Celtic Tale" to replace a copy I had bought years ago that had gone bad. The thing that I liked best about the disc was the legend that was told on the disc, so, boy, was I surprised when the new one I ordered just has the music with no story. The music is very good, but, if you are looking to hear the story, apparently it's been removed from a newer release somehow, and, for what reason I don't know, because it was a good story.
AWESOME.......2006-02-11
This is a beautiful album. When I listen to the music, I can clearly see the story unfolding in my mind. The music really "gets me" in my stomach.

A Celtic Tale.......2005-06-08
The legend of Deirdre and her lover Naoise is one of sadness, romance and adventure. Fiona Ritchie, of The Thistle and Shamrock Celtic radio station, tells the haunting Irish legend while Mychael and Jeff Danna and several other musicians play the pipes, piano, whistle, bodhran, harp, and many more instruments. A beautiful narration set against a backdrop of stunning Celtic music makes for a gorgeous, soul-stirring listen.
Great.......2003-12-11
The first time I heard this CD I was imidiatly captured by the sweet meangiling of naration and beautiful song. I sat, eyes shut tight, for the entire CD. The vivid imagery of the story mixes wonderfully with the gorgeous melodies. I recomend this CD to anyone who loves music as well as anyone who loves a beautifuly told story.
Inspiring and breathtakingly beautiful!.......2002-12-05
A lush, evocative "soundtrack" by the Brothers Danna accompanies narration by "The Thistle and Shamrock"'s Fiona Ritchie, bringing to life the legend of Deirdre with mystery, excitement, sorrow and Celtic flare. Fiona's brogue is, as ever, enchanting. Mychael and Jeff's melodies for whistle, fiddle, soprano, harp and plaintive pipes penetrate the heart and linger on in memory long after the CD player has been turned off. And unlike many folk and new age compositions, this music has real complexity and depth. No excessive repetition here--the harmonies move and change, percussion varies, themes emerge and fade, and the melodies travel onward from beginning to end. This is a true symphony of sound, featuring sixteen talented solo-musicians backed by the Utah Orchestra. "A Celtic Tale: The Legend of Deirdre" actually comes in two versions: narrated, and music only. I have both--one for the story, and the other to hear every note of the gorgeous music, which fades frequently into the background in the narrated version. If you like this recording, try the very lovely and complimentary "A Celtic Romance: The Legend of Liadain and Curithir", also by the Danna brothers, and also the surprisingly similar "The Merlin Mystery" by Alkaemy.
Mesmerizing.......2002-02-21
I heard this from a friend first and absolutely had to go out and get my own copy. I'm a big fan of music that relates to stories and mythology and this was right up my alley. And I love Celtic style music. The music was very beautiful and expressive and the song at the end is haunting.
Personally I enjoyed the narration though there *is* an unnarrated version out there as well for anyone that prefers not to hear the story telling.
A great story well read........2000-03-14
I love to be told a story. A good story matched with a great narrator frees the imagine like no other media man has procured. The story of Dierdre in this retelling is magic and combined with Fiona Ritchie's lyrical Scottish accent and love for the story it shines. If you love a good story as I do, you will come back to this often. The story is just as good the fiftieth as it is the first time and the music is not lost in the narration if that is your worry. This album is also offered with the music only but you will sell yourself short if you forego the richness of this narration and the music combined.
