JUST PERFECTION!!.......2006-04-08

I have all of Dmitri's recordings and this is my favorite due to the quality of the songs, Dmitri's mastery of all of them and the really lush orchestrations. All of the songs are just gorgeous and his voice so beautiful that I listen to this all day at work on my portable CD player. I recently saw him in concert and purchased the DVD of the "War Songs" which were featured in the second half of his concert. Of course, I recommend the CD and the DVD as really stunning. However, if I could only listen to one of his CD's, this is my favorite. As a former singer who trained for 15 years, I can tell you that Dmitri's vocal technique is perfect, just perfect! The voice comes from heaven! Don't wait to get this one!

Hvorostovsky...........again, magic.......2006-02-14

Moscow Nights - This collection is emotionally draining, sad; the minor keys, the great poets and composers, an era unexpressed to Americans. It is a revelation, tended by one of the most beautiful of Russian voices. Listen to it in pieces, in a quiet space, and ponder. Dmitri commands an opera stage - two visits to Queen of Spades at the Met- can lead to no other conclusion. However, it is his quiet recollections of Russian folk music, Russian sacred music, and Soviet music that arouses his greatest talents. This is a recording to be treasured.

hvorostovsky does it again.......2005-05-01

This is the latest installment of the succesfull Hvorostosky/Orbelian collaboration. In "I met you my love" the spotlight was on the socalled Russian Romances, russian art songs of the 19e century. Then came " Where are you my brothers" a collection of Russian war songs. This title contains a collection of the best post war(50s&60s) songs. If you love melodious songs in minor key this is it.The selection is quiet varied and everybody will have his or her own favourites. For me there was'nt a redundant song. The singing is as always faultless and inspired, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra plays topnotch and the arrangments by Evgeny Stesyuk are as always beautifull. But be warned this cd can have a depressing effect because besides being beautifull this music is also mostly very moving. Buy if you love russian music and good musicianship you can't go wrong with this one.

RELAXING. .......2006-06-29

I find this music can be relaxing at night. I don't know if many would consider that a good thing or not. It sounds great. I've heard a lot of bands that have had string tributes done. Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Radio head, Metallica ect. Other than the NIRVANA string tribute this is the best of the POP MUSIC string tribute CDS I've heard. I like the NIRVANA STRING TRIBUTE just a little more than this one but it's really close.

I loved the idea of strings playing Evanescence songs. I love violins and cellos and so I was very excited about getting this cd and hearing my favorite songs being played on my favorite instruments.

It was just...disgusting. It sounded off-key, and I'm nearly positive the quartet threw in extra notes. I wanted to try singing to these instrumental versions, but the extra notes kept throwing me off. I imagined that the instruments would be softer and follow more of how Amy sings rather than the drums and other instruments, but they did go more for the music rather than the singing when interpreting Evanescence's songs. The music was just too harsh. Harsh is good in rock, but not with many violins.

The string playing is absolutely atrocious.
The idea behind the disc is great, but seriously, the group is not dead; do they really need a tribute?
I thought it would be a good investment...stick with the real Evanescence disc's and decent string quartet playing - like the Emerson string quartet.

Well, they tried..........2005-09-21

This CD is ok, some of the songs are in the wrong key (Going Under, and some others), but they tried. I mean, I can picture Evanescence's music being played classically better than most other bands...

Close, but no cigar..........2005-09-01

Being a musician myself, The String Tribute to Evanescence is an okay cd when you're just in the need for background music. Some songs like "Going Under" are pretty good, while other songs like "Bring Me To Life" are too jarring for the ears used to hearing Paul McCoy belt out his lyrics intertwined with Amy Lee's and getting a messy carchophonic scrawl on an electric violin. Of course, considering the newness of Evanescence, there isn't a whole lot of pieces to choose from unlike, say, Tool. Regardless, the quartet does what it aimed to do, though it does leave you wondering how often have they played the original songs beforehand.

This is just your typical cd capitalizing on consumers who clamor for any product with Wham or George Michael on the cover. This IS NOT Wham!, I believe it is an Asian Duo pretending to be Wham. They do sound eeriry arot Rike Rham. Close but no cigar. Nice job of the blending of music together, but then again its not the original music either. It might have gotten more stars if the cool uptempo version of last christmas wasnt involved with the mix, possibly added as an additional track but alas, its not. Who wants to hear Last Christmas anytime between February-Octobe? The other months that we have to listen to it are starting to become questionable as well. Hey I Lived the 80's and Wham was a part of it. I saw them in concert with Katrina and the Waves ...And Chaka Khan. I am a Wham Fan! but I have no time for greedy record companies taking every opportunity to bilk extra money out of consumers when it costs them about 10 cents to make a cd, including the artwork , but they charge 1400% more for the product. And we gripe about the oil companies. And they wonder why Napster is so popular. only the most desperate die hard fan would own this and enjoy it, but for YOU completists enjoy.

After all this year looking for this amazing CD, and almost giving up, I finally founded this recording, so precious!.

This CD as far as I know is no longer being produced, so, the only way to get it is buying a used one. Maybe I'm wrong. But I found mine a month ago in amazon and I'm very happy. Search over.
