A thoroughly enjoyable listening experience!.......1999-08-23

The haunting melodies in this CD transport you to the ancient Incas cities, high in the mountains , where you can "feel" the forest around you, the birds' songs, the gurgling sound of a nearby brook. The pan flute and the characteristic drums of ancient Peru are played trhoughout the CD, lending a poignancy to the music that you will want to listen to again and again. It's great music to relax to. Just close your eyes and listen. You will know why.

Few singers have done so much with so little. Tito Schipa's voice was notoriously short; he routinely transposed pieces with high tessitura and bottom notes were a stretch. But what a middle! The sheer sound of his lyric tenor can send shivers down your spine. This collection, comprising his complete recordings for the Gramophone and Pathe companies made between 1913 and 1921, demonstrates the vocal freedom and melting lyricism of the young Schipa. The selections are infused with charming elegance of timbre and phrasing. The songs are icing on a cake topped with such cherries as a ravishing "Cielo e mar," honeyed Tosca arias, and much else. You don't even have to speak Spanish to enjoy this CD.......2006-02-08

I first saw Ilona covered about a year ago on CNN en Espanol (I think "El Ojo Critico"). I was mesmerized! What a voice. But then nothing for some time. Problem was I couldn't even remember her name, and I even tried to look it up on CNN's website (worthless). Finally we had a visitor from Bogota who was able to figure out who I was talking about.

My wife's Colombian, but I'm not, and my Spanish is just so-so. Nevertheless, I think this disc is wonderful. Ilona's voice is really the centerpiece, but the songwriting is excellent as well, with some really memorable melodies. She has a vibrato that is so smooth and natural- you never get the impression that the producers were pushing her in the making of this album. She has perfect control and never misses a note, while able to modulate between forceful and sweet/smooth with ease. She just sings naturally and without any gimmicks. I wish Ilona all the success she deserves, because success will hopefully lead to more albums, and soon!

Well, first at all, you don't need to be a Colombian to know that this lady is really a great singer, probably you will need to know spanish, yes, but, not being a colombian to check why this girl is going to be a superstart.
She's a great voice, reaches notes like Shakira, Andrea Echeverry, even recalls anothers ..but that is not important if you consider she wrote the most of the material, and the lyrics are really good, not only silly love songs, she touches the common violence of the latinamerican people and the simplicity of the honest worker also.
I trully recommend this Cd to anyone....You are going to find out she is going to be a great spanish singer, hopefully just spanish, because listening latins singing in english is just silly, welcome Ilona to the world of the great artist, to me you are one!
Last but not least....the bonus track included after the stupid "one love" of Blue...will let you appreciate how she in a capella make green with envy any other latin artist!

A new Colombian star on the horizon...!!!.......2005-08-27

Ilona is not only a beautiful name but one of the most recent stars that Colombia, my country, came up with. A sexy and unique voice mixed with original compositions, great collaborations (Leon Gieco & Blue performing with her, and Cachorro López & Richard Navaez in wrting and production) anbd songs with meaning create this awesome album from a girl that started singing in the public buses in Colombia and now is nominated in the 2005 Latin Grammy Awards in the Best New Artist Field... Hopefully, she'll take it home!!!

Finally somebody discovered this true talent, this powerful voice with a lot of things to say... She could be the next Shakira, who knows? Just wait and see!!

She has an amazing voice, really unimaginable, because it is so strong and powerful that you could've never imagine that it exists, plus she's colombian (I am too) and since I love music and I love my country, this is for me a perfect combination! With what Edie Thomas said below. This is really relaxing music. There's some slow paced songs and some faster paced songs. They play the instruments, no synthed (sp) music, which is a plus for me. This is an cd for anyone who likes a wide variety of genres.

I purchased this CD because I heard a sample of one of the songs on a Machu Pichu website. The music is relaxing, yet vivacious. I can listen to this CD in any mood. I love when I go to work and I am opening my store and I have this playing in the background while I am doing my paperwork. I am also a student and I love to study to this. It helps me focus without becoming distracted. Even my 11 year old was astounded by this music and is insisting that she have her own CD to listen to whenever she wants. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a multitude of different genres of music from classical to new age. It spans so many boundaries!!!
