5 out of 5 stars 8 years later, still one of my all-time favorite musical experiences..........2006-07-08

I was introduced to this band/album back in the summer of 1998, soon after it had been released, by a friend familiar with the music scene in Oregon. This album became one of my favorite albums of all time in the months to follow, and remains in my top ten today.

This is an album that must be played sequentially, and in total. It's like an experience; Robert Wynia's melodic yearning entrances you and pulls you in, tossing you about for 17 tracks and spitting you back out to process it all. The raw emotion that emanates from this disc is endearing and makes one want to devour the words that envoke so much feeling, pouring out of every member of the band, through every instrument and vocal. Peter Cornett's drum solo toward the end of "American Theatric" takes my breath away every time I hear it, even 8 years later. The desperation behind "The Invitation", a song about love lost, is raw and penetrating and easily captures a scary part that has existed inside many of us. Lyrics like those in "Endless I" and "Endless II" are so poignant and enlightening... this isn't a CD that can be taken lightly and played as background music. It is worth committing to for the entire journey.

5 out of 5 stars #1 Floater Fan.......2004-10-09

Although, Burning Sosobra is the best album yet, this one is very, very close to being the greatest. His voice takes you to a mediphoric dream land. Great music to sing along to while driving. Very powerful. Great to paint and draw to. Very inspiring.

5 out of 5 stars one you should listen to........2002-08-13

I am a native of Bend Oregon and I have been following floater for 6 or 7 years, and I am now 23 years old. I love all different kinds of music and floater is my absolute favorite! I love Angels in the Devils in the bone, and it definetly was a demonstration of their talent, as well as a show of their soul.Buy this CD or YOU MISS OUT!

5 out of 5 stars Life without Floater..........2002-03-27

Since I've moved across the country, I've had to suffer without being able to see Floater live. I've had to depend on my CD collection. The East coast has never heard of Floater.
I highly recommend any and all of Floaters releases. If you find one, snatch it up, it's only a matter of time when the world knows who and what Floater is all about.
Floater, native of Washington, Oregon and California drives hard notes with symphonic tones to your very core. Supplying listening satisfaction to a wide range of listeners, I would suggest this band to moshpit dwellers as well as Floyd fans.
Personal favorite: The Sad Ballad of Danny Boy and Crawl to you from the Glyph CD.
Fourty Thumbs Up!

5 out of 5 stars oh, those boys..........2002-03-16

So, here I was a nineteen year old girl standing outside a local venue that Floater was supposed to play at....From then one I've been hooked. Just like thier two albums before, this one is amazing. Although the sound has changed some what the idea remains the same, with each album telling a different story. Their style has grown into something all their own, a long with a following that you wouldn't belive. :) Thought, the whole CD is good, I'd have to say I like the latter half better. These three men are the most talented people I ever had the chance to meet. So If you ever get the chance to see Flaoter live, I suggest that you take it. I personally would recommend an accoustic show. It was the BEST Floater show I'd ever seen, and belive me I've seen a lot.

5 out of 5 stars All about it!.......2004-06-05

This was the first album I ever heard Floater, and thus was the first time their completely unique and moving sound hit my eardrums. This album is a definite for first time listeners, as it moves everywhere from Tool like metal to an obvious affection for style somewhere in the psychedelic Pink Floyd style This band absolutely blows me away with every incarnation, and (being as I grew up in Eugene Or, their home town) I have missed seeing these songs played live But this is definitely the next best thing, engrossing, thought provoking, and fantastically sculpted, this album is an independent milestone, for a band that knows no boundaries.

A TRULY GREAT ALBUM!! I BUY MY CLOTHES WITH BIG POCKETS SO THAT I CAN CARRY IT WITH ME WHEREVER I GO. A DEFINITE MUST HAVE FOR THE DEVOTED FAN.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Few bands that are the BEST but still not Heard.......2002-06-30

This album is a different band than any you have ever heard. They swing from Hard-Hitting Metal/Acid songs like Cinema, to slow painfully sad (in a good way) songs like The Sad Ballad of Danny Boy and Clean Plastic Baby. It is awesome CD!!!! (I will be true, though, a couple of songs are like jungle beats, they are cool and everything, but they could have left those out.)

1 out of 5 stars And Then She Stepped aside.......2003-08-05

I just ordered this CD based only that I heard the song "And then
She Stepped Aside" on the internet. It has a nice female voice that I find cool with a soft organ in the background. I don't know about the rest of the CD, but, I really like this song and I'm fine if this is the only good one on it.

3 out of 5 stars too much dubbed percussion.......2001-11-05

I own all of the Budd releases. This CD is less piano and more sonic wash w/ Zazou's percussion, most of which does little to take the songs into different territories. Budd recites some poetry on this disk, like he did on DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT (which is a better release).

2 out of 5 stars Out of reach.......2000-02-19

I listened to this album a few years ago, but in contrast to all other HB records, I didn't feel the need to buy it. Some tracks contains these cheesy, standardized pseudo-techno beats, pretending to be modern. The melodies are weaker than on other HB albums, and the whole CD sounds as if it was done in a hurry. Better check out HB's collaboration with XTC's singer Andy Partridge, "Through the hill".

5 out of 5 stars If you like thick beats and smokey atmospheric Piano.........2000-02-03

You will love this incredible masterpiece by two of this century's best contributors to new music. This is nothing like other records which preceed it and certainly my favorite record of 1997. This used to be very hard to find, so if you can get it.. buy it now. I'm a producer myself and look towards people like Harold Budd and Hector Zazou for inspiration and new concepts in pop and beyond. Let this work of poetry work its magic on you. 2 out of 5 stars ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!.......1999-11-30

Boring! Absolutely nothing worth while here. I hate that little drum and base beat that permeates this CD and a million other ones. Also greatly dislike the phoney vocalisations with pseudo-emotions. Some of the synth effects are allright but not worth the purchase of the CD. I thought I should warn you.

4 out of 5 stars A new modern voice to keep tradition.......2000-05-21

In SONGS FROM THE PAGE OF SWORDS, Daniel Asia's music is traced from its evolutionary roots to its accomplished maturity. Offering a brief glance into his compositional diversity, it fills the ears with fluid vocal lines, pointillism, and extended tonality. His music reaches beyond the banal and into the inventive realm of the unpredictable. Infusing the traditional elements of classical composition with subtle influences from American popular music and jazz, Asia's early musical expressionism unveils the interaction between the interior world of humans and the physical exterior they live in.

The recording rests upon on the spectacular performance of New York City based chamber ensemble Musical Elements. Included are the "Sacred Songs," a work that incorporates sparse, playful exchanges between the soloist and instrumentalists, conveying a sense of tranquil beauty and wonderment. The heavier compositional style, which Asia used in the early 1980's, is represented in the darker "Songs from the Page of Swords". "Pines Songs," based on Paul Pines' poetry, is an exploration of post-serial impressionism, defined by angular rhythmical influences and graceful cadenzas. Top-notch performances by soprano Carmen Pelton, bass-baritone John Shirley-Quirk, and oboist Sara Watkins make for an excellent recording.
