Sam Stryke says composing music is like solving a puzzle. "It's an intellectual challenge -obeying the rules and then breaking the rules in a creative and strategic way. It's a combination of heart and intellect." Atlantic Records released his first solo album, "In the Wind," in 1991. In 1996, he performed on and composed pieces for jazz trumpeter Rex Richardson's album, "Pandora's Pocket". His next solo album, "Emerging," features an organic sound of acoustic and vintage electric instruments as well as strings and horns. By day, Stryke works as a composer for commercial music with Sandy Torano at Scandal Music in Chicago, Illinois. Scandal has done commercials for Anheuser-Busch, McDonald's and Nintendo. Stryke has collaborated with Randy Newman, scored music for Super Bowl commercials, and written music for the popular Bud Light "Heroes" radio campaign. In addition, he scored the independent short film "In Check" in 2001 and the independent feature film "Merlot" in 1998; both films have been on the festival circuit.
Grand Rapids, Michigan native Stryke graduated from Forest Hills Central High School in 1989, then moved to Chicago to pursue his bachelor's degree in music from Northwestern University. He has studied with Chicago jazz pianist Michael Kocour and noted composer and arranger Cliff Colnot. In 1994, he was the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant to study with New York-based jazz pianist Jim McNeely. Stryke resides on the north side of Chicago with his wife, Heather, and young son, Xander.
Product Description
Sam Stryke's second album features an organic blend of acoustic and vintage electric instruments. While the sound centers around Sam Stryke on piano, many of the tracks include a full rhythm section as well as strings and horns. The result is an instrumental album that is reminiscent of MTVs "Unplugged" series.

Album Description
Wampus Multimedia introduces 'Hurry Home Early: the Songs of Warren Zevon.' Featuring 13 Zevon classics interpreted by emerging artists from the U.S. and England, 'Hurry Home Early' focuses on Zevon's contribution to literate, modern songcraft, and tracks his 35-year journey as acerbic troubadour and cynical romantic.'Hurry Home Early' traces Zevon's career from the late 1960s until his untimely death from mesothelioma, an inoperable lung cancer, in 2003. From Phil Cody's "Splendid Isolation" to Robb Johnson's "Suzie Lightning," the CD tells the story of an artist torn between hopeful and dark impulses, locked in a struggle between heart and mind. From Tom Flannery's "Boom Boom Mancini" to Neil Luckett's "Mutineer," it explores the emotional interior of a composer who has been called the Hunter S. Thompson of audio journalism.
Wampus Multimedia started the Zevon project in 2001, after it released its first tribute CD, 'If I Were a Richman: a Tribute to the Music of Jonathan Richman,' and was working on its second, 'After Hours: a Tribute to the Music of Lou Reed.'
'Hurry Home Early' runs the gamut of Zevon's career, from Simone Stevens' and Jordan Zevon's reading of the previously unreleased "Warm Rain" to early nuggets (Last Train Home's "Desperados Under the Eaves," Rachel Stamp's "Carmelita," The Matthew Show's "Mohammed's Radio") to spirited pop-rock (Roughly Enforcing Nostalgia's "Run Straight Down," Robbie Rist's "Mr. Bad Example," Alpha Cat's "Reconsider Me") to latter-day ironies (The Simple Things' "I'll Slow You Down," Brook Pridemore's "Life'll Kill Ya").
'Hurry Home Early' portrays an uncompromising artist making accessible records, a surgically precise and perceptive writer conveying a vision through the lens of Hollywood.
Wampus is donating one dollar from the sale of each copy to the American Cancer Society.

Looking For The Next Best Thing?..........2007-06-27
Not quite what I was expecting..........2007-06-11
Hurried Home Too Early.......2006-08-20
the artists do not just cover the famous hits... .. ..and when they did, they did them in their fashion.
I predict this motel will be standing ..........2005-11-25
"Desperadoes Under the Eaves" (just listen to the intro) and "Carmelita" are highlights, but really it's all good.
And the cover image is a nice touch.
I think Warren will be smiling.
A worthy tribute album.......2005-08-24
The current, and presumably final, Zevon tribute is from Wampus Multimedia, who have released prior tributes to Jonathan Richman (2001) and Lou Reed (2003). As with the previous reviewer, Mr. Cohen, I had not before heard any offerings from the group of performers herein. But I share his opinion that this is a valuable album for both Zevon aficionados as well as fans of excellent songwriting. Obviously, not every cover song will appeal to every listener, but that is almost beside the point. The album is a wonderful testament to Zevon the songwriter - hearing these familiar words and verses sung by mostly unknown up-and-coming artists tends to isolate the brilliance of the songwriting skill in a more tangible way than was possible with the likes of Dylan and Springsteen.
This is not to say that the performances are mediocre or indifferent. After a couple of straight-through listens, my favourites so far are Phil Cody's "Splendid Isolation" (certainly as good as Pete Yorn's EES cover), The Simple Things' "I'll Slow You Down" (which in my opinion achieves the rare feat of surpassing the Zevon original), Last Train Home's "Desperados Under the Eaves" (perhaps Warren's best-ever performance, absolutely unbeatable and therefore courageous to attempt), the evocative vocals of Simone Stevens on the until-now unheard "Warm Rain" (with guitar and keyboard accompaniment by Jordan), and the highly energetic and infectiously fun effort of Robbie Rist's "Mr. Bad Example". I expect the number of favourite tracks to grow for me in the future.
What I also hope for is that, 15 or 20 years down the line, when Jackson Browne and David Lindley are taking it easy on their front balconies, some of the artists on this compilation are continuing the admirable practice of including a Zevon song or two in their live concerts, and intrigued first-time listeners are digging into and enjoying the back catalogue of one of the best-ever American songwriters. I thank Wampus for doing their part to help accomplish this.

Joyous, rich musical world parents and kids alike will love!.......2000-11-07
As with Blue Sky City, All Around the World is immediately joyful and engaging. Perfect for all kids from toddlers to pre-teens, the rock, calypso and hip-hop rhythms will get the youngest kids bouncing around, while the lyrics engage the imagination of the older kids. The broad theme underlying much of this music is the power of the human spirit, and the universal family of mankind. The unspoken subtext is that each child's love in the world is a powerful force.
Kids will play their favorite music over and over, typically driving parents nuts, hee hee. And that is where Skip West's music really shines. The musicianship, the variety of musical styles and instrumentation, and the accessibility to both kids and parents with messages and musical gifts for both will contribute to makes All Around the World a family favorite for years. Your kids will fondly remember growing up to this music and want to share it with their children.
When Skip sings "you are the love that brings a ship to shore, you are the love that sails the sky, you are the love, the love forever more, you know you are the spirit of us all.", and you see your kids singing along, you won't have to try very hard to imagine that they just might believe that.

Sharp, funny, touching, entertaining, glorious!.......2006-01-07
A live recording of a benefit concert featuring songs from developing musicals, this 2-disc recording alternates between introductions to the songs and the songs themselves. At times, the introductions are as entertaining as the music, and the live nature of the recording only makes the recording all that more entertaining.
The performers here are top-notch and in top form--they ooze artistry, and it shows (hears). The songs themselves are a joy, ranging from good to excellent. It is doubtful (unfortunately) that most of the musicals to which the songs are attached ever will reach the light of full production, but at least the songs are a joy to listen to here. I challenge anyone to listen to the song "The Sensitive Song" from the planned musical "Cops" (!!), as performed by Deven May, not to leave with a smile on your face. (Caution: adult lyrics.)
This is highly recommended (as you can tell), and was an unexpected pleasure to listen to. The only thing I would like to see improved is Amazon's price for the recording, as it is a bit high (although the recording tends to go for a higher price, perhaps because of its benefit and off-the-beaten-track nature).

This is without any doubt some of Phil Keaggy's finest work from its orgin in 1977 it has stood the test of time. The original 1977 record had 9 songs. It was released on cd in April of 2000 on Canis Major Records with 8 of the 9 original tracks. They left off the song "Genlte Eyes" for what ever reason I am not sure but they added 4 new tracks that were not on the 1977 record and put it on CD. If you heard this on record or tape back in the 70's and loved it then just wait till you here the CD. It is like you are there all over again.
One of the best Phil Keaggy albums ever!.......2006-06-30
Despite all that, it stands the test of time and contains some of the finest work that Phil has ever done.
NOTE: "Gentle Eyes" Has Never Been Released On CD, Including The Re-Emerging CD Reissue, Which Is Currently Out Of Print.
