Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Some good Bond themes.......2007-01-10

This is not a good CD for those of you who want the James Bond theme music incorporated a lot. There are some songs which it appears in, like Bond 77, but otherwise, it's just a lot of other 70s music. Too bad, John Barry incorporates good Bond music, but this is not one of the Best Bond soundtracks.

5 out of 5 stars Reviewed by a Bond Collector.......2006-03-15

This soundtrack is perfect for the consumate Bond fan. The cd contains most of the music from the film and is great purchase for anyone who loves the movie. Each track will immediately bring to mind the scene from the movie. I would buy it again.

5 out of 5 stars James Bond and Disco collide with full force!.......2005-06-15

For the most part, I feel that the Bond film scores all sound very similar. This is one that REALLY stands out to me.

1. -Nobody Does It Better- This is by far one of the best Bond songs ever recorded, and we are given the full cut of the song, not the partial cut that I have heard elsewhere.

2. -Bond 77- This is a 4:22 compilation of all the Disco-Bond themes throughout the film. It has great solos, and the Disco beat, though I'm not a big fan of Disco, this is an exciting track that defines Roger Moore's Bond in the film.

3. -Ride To Atlantis- This is a very tranquill and relaxing piece with lots of strings, guitars, and synthesizers. It is beautiful and gives the impression of being underwater.

4. -Mojave Club- This is a very interesting track. It has lots of drums and has an extremely African sound. It can get obnoxious after repeat listenings, but all in all, it is not too long and is worth a listen.

5. -Nobody Does It Beter (Instrumental)- This is, by far, the most beautiful track on the CD. It has beautiful solos by Marvin Hamlisch on piano, Laurence Juber on lead guitar, and Derick Plater.

6. -Anya- Although the track never actually appeared in the film, it is a beautiful serenade that stays appealing even after repeated listening.

7-10. -The Pyramids, Eastern Lights, Conclusion- These tracks are all connected and represent a compilation of the finale music from the film. 7 builds suspense with lots of brass and leads into 8. 8 consists of a disco/funk/African sound that is very neat sounding. 9 is mostly done by strings and a chorus. Over all, these tracks only add up to a total of 7:58.

11. -End Titles- This track consists of parts of tracks 1 and 5.

All in all, this is an incredible soundtrack, though I wish more could have been included. But as this was first released on a vinyl LP, the 36 minute total running time makes sense. This is an incredible album and the price is perfect. A GREAT BUY!!!

3 out of 5 stars Favorite Soundtrack, Disappointing "Remaster".......2005-03-29

After checking out the new editions of other James Bond soundtracks, I was anxiously awaiting the full "Remastered Version" of THE SPY WHO LOVED ME.
And found myself disappointed.

Where the other soundtracks were not only remastered but filled out to include most of the music (doubling the tracks), SPY's new edition is simply the same exact tracks from the original 1977 album.

I'm giving it three stars because it's one of my favorite 007 soundtracks...but I felt like giving it one since I'd wanted the full treatment similar to what ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE or FOR YOUR EYES ONLY got.

5 out of 5 stars Great music.......2004-10-23

Although there is much music missing on this soundtrack, it is still a great soundtrack to listen to. And yes, you can say that it is "so seventies", but: That's whats fun about this soundtrack.
It has great sounds on it that give you the feeling of the movie. My personal favorite is "Bond 77"
Also the title song, "Nobody does it better" is one of the best title songs in the Bond history.
The soundtrack also includes music that wasn't used in the film. The track "Anya" was never used in the movie, but it has beautiful music that really touches my heart.
If you liked the feeling you got from the movie because of the music, this is a soundtrack for you.
But you have to listen to it yourself and make your own opinion. But I think it has some of the greatest music in the entire Bond series. Nobody does it better ;)

          Album Description

The latest from this Chicago-based trio of keyboards, bass, and drums. Powerful rhythms provide the solid floor for ethereal melodies and layers of textural samples. Vocals evoke haunting innocence. While ominous imagery is repeated on "Pyramids", there's also an equally heavy presence of openness and possibility uniting the dualities that this band has come to represent.

            Product Description

In collaboration with Syra Bonet, musicologist Rafael Pérez Arroyo, former director of the acclaimed Sony Hispánica collection, has just released the first fruit of many years of research into the music of Ancient Egypt. The result is a spectacular CD entitled Music in the Age of Pyramids, performed by Arroyo's Hathor Ensemble. Realization of the music by Arroyo was based on study of the metric structure of hymns which survive in writing, discussion of music theory from heiroglyphics, sonic descriptions by ancient authors, and iconography. Arroyo has also made an effort at decoding a partial chironomy (hand gestures, the same source claimed for Biblical music), and discovered three basic modes for Ancient Egyptian music.

Been a fan of the lover for many a year. this album was new to me and shurely hit the spot..
had a new style to it with more fast pace.. very good

5 out of 5 stars Egyptian Pharoh of the Nile..........2006-04-23

This man still has the baddest beats around! Dance ERotic, soiree at the Shindig, I could play this one all the way through and not get annoyed at filler songs like other albums.. He put some of his ole' school into this album but it still has an up to date beat. Its sounds better on a high quality system so don't judge this album until you hear it on quality speakers.. Egypt L.'s lyrics are classic smooth suave lines that the ladies love..
Keep it coming Egyptian Lover cuz even my 18 year old brother and all his freaks danced to the Egypt's beat at at his prom. So a whole new generation of Freaks await......because your beat goes BOOM, BOOM, BOOM,...BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.........

1 out of 5 stars This is NOT good!.......2006-04-20

I'd give it zero stars if it were possible. I bought this based on the previous two reviews. All I can say is: Ignore them. They don't know what they're talking about. This music is crap; it doesn't sound anything like the Egyptian Lover of old. His time was in the 80s, and he should've stopped making music then, because every album he's done after 1989 has stunk!

            5 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE! .......2006-03-11

This guy, The Egyptian Lover, is awesome. This CD still has his classic sound with current twists added. I've been waiting a long time to see if he'd put out a new CD. I can't stop listening to it.

5 out of 5 stars He's still got it !!.......2006-02-27

Not many artists can continue to make music after so long and still are able to make great music !!

4 out of 5 stars Great band, great time, funny manager.......2002-05-03

This live album doesn't have great sound, but so what. The version of "She Lives in a Time of Her Own," my fave 13FE tune, is excellent, and very "live" sounding. Also, it's priceless to hear their manager (I assume it's their manager, or agent, or some sort of promotional record person) scream "LEVITATION! LEVITATION! LEVITATION!" as they begin said song. They really knew how to make squares and used-car salesmen back then... You can just SEE this guy (I imagine him looking like John Goodman wearing a "Used Cars" Kurt Russell plaid sports jacket) jumping around on stage thinking that he's hip, or something ("Yeahh! Energy, THAT'S what these crazy kids are into! Just a lot of yelling and Beatles-screaming! I got 'em pegged!") Hilarious. And the album's worth the price. I WOULDN'T MISLEAD YA, KIDS! LEVITATION! LEV-I-TA-TION!

            5 out of 5 stars '91 Gold.......2006-07-21

This album is indeed a underrated gem. Please do not listen to the negative reviewer. Whilst this album does fall into the afrocentric category, it is no way as trite/ militant as MG would have you believe. This is packed to the hilt with intricate wordplay, very funky beats, old school samples, and plenty of that fresh early ninety's scratchting. A couple of the four bonus tracks you get aren't on par with the quality of the rest of the album, but hey - they're free! This album is a must have for any old school fan (especially at the $6 its currently being sold for). Worthy of Extended Play.

            5 out of 5 stars Underrated classic.......2006-05-10

The lyrics are dated - as are most Afrocentric lyrics in retrospect - but wouldn't you rather have interesting lyrics than today's glut of gun, car and ho talk? But the real joy here is in the music - Amen Ra and DOP would go on to be part of Puff Daddy's Hitmen production squad, and you can see why. Beats on the likes of 'Kemitcal reaction' and 'How U Figga' are golden age classics. Whenever I mention this album to friends they always smile and say 'classic' - they're right

1 out of 5 stars "Political Rap" Farrakhan Bandwagoneers are hilarious!.......2004-10-19

I have two things to say about these guys. First, they looked ridiculous and followed the "I hate Whitey/I love Farrakhan" bandwagon. Second, the lyrics to the song "Daffy Was A Black Man" are so incredibly stupid that they make completely irrelevant and ridiculous anything else they might have to say:

"So we were pursuing, like Wile E Coyote
You dig it? Sylvester and Tweety, Gonzalez was Speedy
But the duck I bet nobody knows he was supposed to
Represent a n*gg*r, you wonder how we figure?
Cause when Bugs got the laugh, Daffy got the trigger
Elmer Fudd was a g*ddamn blood clot
So how that sucker own a mansion and a yacht?
He got paid through exploitation of a brother
So to speak, whose lips resembled a beak"

Yes, these are the actual lyrics.
