Album Description

The sounds for this series were recorded in 3D by Chuck Plaisance. His recording system is designed to simulate human hearing, using a binaural head microphone to capture depth, height, width, as well as directional movement. No special equipment is needed to get 3D sound from traditional stereo speakers. In fact, these albums will make your system - speakers or headphones - sound like it never has before. You are the experience.

All pieces contain compositions of pure Nature Sounds produced, arranged, edited and mastered by Chuck Plaisance and Suzanne Doucet. (aka Virtual Audio Environment).

5 out of 5 stars Perfect To Fall Asleep To.......2006-07-20

I bought this CD because I didn't really know which type of sound I'd relax most too be it ocean, rain, forest, etc. Well I love all the sounds on this sampler, and I play it every night. My hubby says that 20 mins into the CD there's a rooster crowing, but I wouldn't know because by that time I'm already fast asleep. Great stuff!

5 out of 5 stars 3-Dimensional Pure Nature Sounds.......2005-11-21

This excellent compilation of 20 different Nature Sound albums was out of print, but is now finally available again through ONLY NEW AGE MUSIC(repackaged and remastered). This album creates a journey through different Nature scenes all recorded by Chuck Plaisance, with a special microphone that simulates human hearing. The sounds were then edited and composed, arranged and mixed like an orchestrated piece but still remain pure Sounds of Nature. Like Bernie Krause Doucet and Plaisance take essential Nature Sounds and recreate an ambience that takes you even deeper into the essence of Nature.

5 out of 5 stars nice and relaxing.......2007-01-24

This cd uses brainwave technology and alpha waves are used to for a calming and relaxing state of mind. This cd not only incoporates these waves, but includes rainforest sounds as well. These animal sounds are quite and calming, not overwhelming like some rainforests cd. i use this to start to fall asleep followed by theta medatation 2.0 and then delta sleep 2.0 and i sleep great. YOu must try this. I never tried things like this before and the only reason i did was because of all the science behind it and it does work. i use it in my preschool classroom in the background and i can notice a difference in thier behavior when i play the cd. They are much more calm and relaxed during the day.

5 out of 5 stars Very Soothing.......2006-10-17

The best nature sounds I ever heard and it also conatins Dr Thompson's Alpha technology. This is a great product.

A warm, reflective paean to North American temperate rainforests, Forest Rain from flautist-keyboardist Dean Evenson stands as one musician's interpretive soundtrack of the moods, subtleties, and cycles inherent in the few remaining stands of such forests. Recorded in 1993, a few of Evenson's synthesizer textures may sound faintly dated (appearing a bit too shiny in places), but this is a minor distraction in an otherwise well-executed recording notable for its sense of calm and its elevated degree of musicianship. More than tree-huggers playing simplistic melodies, Evenson and company (d'Rachel and wife Dudley Evenson on harp, Jonathan Kramer on cello) create gentle atmospheres (some with keyboards, some without) that eschew overt melodicism in favor of evocative soundscapes that capture the quiet majesty of grand trees. Highlights: Evenson's softly searching flute passages in the 10-minute "Deep Forest"; the glowing, Suzanne Ciani-like "Branching Out"; and the closer, "Prayer for the Ancient Trees," featuring the drumming and chants of a Lummi Nation member. The disc's attractive packaging includes an educational insert outlining the benefits humans derive from a healthy temperate rainforest. --Terry Wood

5 out of 5 stars You can't go another day without it..........2006-11-08

This is one of Dean Evenson's best albums. If you want to play music while performing energy work, meditation, or just to relax...this music will help. I recommend this CD highly, I listen to it a lot. The flute will just take you away. But of course, how can you go wrong with any of Dean's music? Happy Healing.

5 out of 5 stars So soothing, calming, a sense of peaceful joy!.......2006-06-06

I bought this CD about 5 years ago and still have it and play it for my clients. I can't tell you how many times I have them ask who's cd this is and special requests to have this cd playing while I do their spa service! I enjoy and get such a sense of happiness and calm from it that I even play it before I go to sleep at night sometimes. This is a must have if you are looking for a special cd to create atmosphere, happiness, serenity fro yourself and your spa clients!!! LOVE IT!

5 out of 5 stars Forest Rain: Beautiful, relaxing music.......2005-11-23

Dean Evenson is a very interesting person. After earning a Master's Degee in the 60's in molecular biology, he decided to follow his other interests of art and music. We all won out on that decision. I have heard several of Dean's albums and so far, this is my very favorite.

Dean uses his music to promote knowledge and reverence for the Earth. He incorporates ambient sounds of nature and the voices and music of the people indigenous to the area. This CD includes recordings of rain falling in the rainforest. These, along with the native and silver flutes, keyboards, harp (by his wife Dudley Evenson) and other musicians combine to make a beautiful sound.

The music is uplifting and restful.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful nature music that will lull you to dreams........2001-12-04

I bought this CD years ago, and its one of the few that I've had for so long. This is new age at its best. The music is so calming, and so peaceful, and will put you at ease and to rest quietly and quickly. I know you can find lots of 'nature sounds' CDs out there, but nothing I have encountered compares to this one. Dean Evenson is the best, and I would highly recommend this as well as 'Ocean Dreams.' He is the master at his task, and while I have lots of other New Age CDs, this one is a genuine favorite.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely beautiful and calming.......2000-04-15

this is one ofthe best i have ever heard for nature-type new age music. some gentle rain, flutes, and other instruments. it expresses the gentle beauty and mustique of the forest. i reccommend it to anyone! it's also very relaxing for me and the flow of the music is very pleasing. enjoy!

3 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says........2003-04-10

I bought a stack of these Exlipse CD's for Yoga. Mostly I got the ones without soundtracks, because I prefer nature sounds alone. I bought this to try the soundtrack and confirmed for myself that I don't like them much. I find the music a bit distracting, but it is a matter of personal taste.

The rain forest track is authentic sounding, and the overall effect is still relaxing, and provides a good wall of white noise for meditation, blocking out the sounds of everyday life from round the house or outside.

I think these are a great value collection and a great buy for anyone who practices meditation or relaxation.

4 out of 5 stars Great at what it is........2003-03-06

This is an Eclipse Music Group CD. The producers do two types of CD, a nature track, and a nature track with a music overlay.

The nature tracks are all done very well, in this case you can hear the birds, monkeys, frogs and insects of the Amazon rainforest, and it is an authentic, harmonic and peaceful sound.

The music overlay is incidental music using strings, winds and voices to give a musical counterpoint to the nature sounds. I use these CD's for Yoga and meditation and I find they work really well in a number of ways.

First of all they kill all the annoying background noise around the house by producing a wall of white noise.
Second, they take you out of your surroundings, in this case into the jungle, by generating realistic sounding tracks.
Finally, they allow you to meditate by giving you a measured relaxing sound that you can hold onto to help with the rythym of your breathing.

It's nice to have the choice of having the music track or just the jungle track, and at the price you can afford to try both.

5 out of 5 stars RELAXING and Peaceful!.......2000-06-12

I am one of those individuals who loves to listen to music while going to bed. In fact, I have been looking intensively for that perfect cd to add to my collection for some time now. And with Relax with the Amazon Rainforest, I believe I have found it! This is one of the most relaxing and soothing compilations I have come across--and believe you me, I have heard many.

This CD magically combines the natural, organic sounds found of the rainforest with the harmonious and beautiful sounds of strings. It is simply music for the ears. The sounds of the rainforest alone-- which include animals, running streams, waterfalls, plantlife, insects, wind etc, are meditative enough--but when accompannied with the string music, it becomes sheer genious!

I have noticed how wonderful and alive I feel the next morning after going to sleep with this soundtrack on. My dreams are more vivid and my body more vital and refreshed. No joke!

Relax with the amazon rainforest, is perfect for relaxing, meditating, art, sleeping and creating a welcoming and peacful atmosphere. I highly reccomed this cd to anyone who enjoys relaxing--especially to those who enjoy bedtime sounds.

3 out of 5 stars It grew on me.......2003-07-06

At first listening, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. There is a lot of stuff going on including an occasional shrieking monkey. I could not listen to this CD for general relaxing or background music. Out of desperation, because a thunderstorm CD died, we popped this one in to fall asleep to, and it's now a favorite, for that purpose. Perhaps it's just because we live near the LA harbor, like to sleep with the windows open and this sufficiently drowns out the noise. It works and is favored. It also seemed to increase the bird population in the area.

2 out of 5 stars Stop the deluge; I've had enough!,'.......2001-10-16

This CD just about drove me nuts. I understand that rain is to be expected in a rainforest, but after listening to this recording my pets were lining up two-by-two. This CD is for you if you love a long rain and dripping sounds. I hated it; it was monotonous and I could swear that there were portions that were repeated because the person recording it had to fill up some space and nothing was available.Save your money!

3 out of 5 stars Pleasant but overdone on bird sounds, sounding as children.......2000-08-02

The Gentle Persuasion Sound Of Nature series most likely has more promise than experienced in this CD. I love to hear the sounds of rushing waters, rain storms, swaying tree branches with the leaves touching each other and the sounds of birds. So, on the face of things, why not this CD? For some, it may be more valuable or enjoyable.

I like to listen while at the CPU or resting. The sounds of the waters are authentic and refreshing to hear. However, they lack something. Maybe the symetry is not there. Or maybe it is the clash.

As the CD starts suddenly some sounds come through the speakers. I look around and ask myself "Where is the crying child?" Some of the bird sounds replicate crying children. The sounds of children and birds are both beautiful. They are life. The rain forests are alive. They normally live in harmony.

For whatever reasons I find the producers of this CD have perhaps gone for overkill. There is a lack of harmony. Some of the bird sounds are dissonant yet fit in. Others though do not seem authentic, no matter what the writers say.

This CD plays for 60 minutes. The writing on the back cover is very moving. Would that the CD's sounds be so interwoven as the writers depict?

I hope someone else will review this CD just to get another viewpoint. I listen to many nature CDs. I had high hopes when acquiring this VHS at an Internet auction. Perhaps other Gentle Persuasion CDs will be more harmonious. I will try to find either "Electrifying Thunderstorms" or "The Cry of the Loon." Having lived in northern Wisconsin for a while, I have a fine authentic Loon cassette.

The CD is okay. Maybe the fact it was cut in 1989 has something to do with the less-than ideal consistent sound quality. Yet one can easily pick up other CDs with nature sounds or symphonies being played and find better sonority.

Thank you.

5 out of 5 stars a soothing and relaxing CD.......2005-09-15

This CD is great. It helps my child sleep at rest time and at bedtime. I also use it at rest time at my day care center for the children.

5 out of 5 stars Spirit or Spirits not much difference.......2005-04-26

I could not tell much difference between Spirit Of The Rainforest and Spirits of the Rainforest. Different packaging, different song titles, different time lengths on the songs, but basically the same music on both. Both have Diane and David, but both are put out on different labels. I love Spirits, which is why I bought Spirit of the Rainforest. I thought it might be a little more different than it is. Either one is fine and the other is not necessary unless you are an avid fan and want to see the difference.

4 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2007-03-31

I like the CD. It is very relaxing. I wish there were more rain sound effects, though. When the rain starts, it's really nice but then it ends too quickly and goes back to the nature sounds.

5 out of 5 stars great bird sounds.......2007-02-06

I bought this CD to keep my blue-headed (crested) Amazon parrot company during the day while I'm at work or while I am doing work at home. She absolutely loves it. She calls back and talks to the birds. She listens actively and clearly enjoys the sounds. This is the most rewarding $3 I've spent in a long time. It makes me really happy to know that she's is entertained when no one is home. I will say though that some of the calls on the CD are loud and this isn't a particularly soothing CD. I wouldn't really enjoy doing my yoga practice to this CD.

I have visited and lived tropical areas before, and I thought that the sounds were very realistic. Naturally, you wouldn't find these sounds all happening at once. They are spliced together smoothly to make the cd have continuous sound. I didn't feel like the rain sounds were entirely authenic during a section of the CD, but they were soothing and enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars Real Bird Sounds.......2005-01-20

Tropical birds do make odd sounds. That is what so great about
tropical rain and bird sounds, the fact that they do not sound
like the backyard birds you hear everyday. Some birds really
do screech, and make crazy sounds. One parrot in your house can
drive you nuts, what would a hundred or a thousand in the trees
be like? However, authentic bird sounds are the reason to get
a bird record and this has them. Many local birds go to the
tropics in the wintertime, so some of them do show up in recordings. The tropical world is a totally different world from
what we in the U.S. are used to, and it is a treat to hear what
such a strange place is like, all the sounds that make it exciting and different.

3 out of 5 stars Careful What You Buy! - Do animals really make these sounds?.......2003-09-21

MAYBE SOMEWHAT LONG, BUT INFORMATIVE, I THINK

This is my 1st CD with Tropical sounds. I have one with rain and thunder and no music(Relaxing with Nature: Thunderstorm - Raindrops) and I think it's Great, but I didn't feel very relaxed listening to this Relax with Tropical Rain Forest CD.

ARE THESE SOUNDS REAL? OR PEOPLE'S VOICES AND A CHILD'S SCREAMS!
Here's why:
I do like that this almost 60 minute CD, has no music; however, after the 1st part of the CD, some of the animal (I'm thinking bird) sounds were too loud. Throughout several parts of the CD, it sounded like there were geese, yes Geese (do they live out there too?), right next to you squawking in your ear. Now I don't know what all the birds are suppose to sound like, but during a few parts in the CD it sounded as if there was a tape playing of people talking really fast. Like someone recorded people talking regularly and then fast-forwarded the voices on the tape so their voices are talking really fast and in a high-pitched, squeaky voice, and then they played their speeded up voices as an animal sound. I tried to listen closely to find out if this was true and tried to make out what they were saying, but I had no luck. A few other times it sounded as thought there was a tribe conversing in the background, who knows, maybe there really was one back there. I also didn't like the animal (maybe a monkey or a bird) that sounded like a little girl screaming; it was a very realistic, high-pitched, blood-curtailing screaming sound.

Why is it when there are only a few things that you don't like about something they're the parts that are the loudest and really stand out the most and you can't get them out of your head? I did, however, like the raining parts and the animal sounds during most of the raining parts.

Again, I don't know much about the tropical birds, animals, or forest and this could very well be a legitimate recording of animal and nature sounds, but even if these are the real thing, I didn't care too much for some of the animal sounds. I certainly couldn't get any sleep listening to this CD and that's the main reason I bought it.

I do love nature so maybe I should try a CD with the "woods" instead of the "rain forest." Anyone know of any or have a good suggestion--with no music though?

I gave it an average 3-star rating (right in the middle) because I wasn't very satisfied with some of the animal sounds, but I have no other tropical cd's to compare it to. I guess that's what you get for a $2 cd (+ $3 ship), but if I knew what this CD was going to be like before I bought it, I would have gladly paid a few extra bucks for a CD that I would actually like. Hope this helps! As of right now, I'm not sure if I want to keep this CD or not, if I do keep it I know it won't get listened to very often.

5 out of 5 stars Shut your eyes and feel the jungle.......2001-06-08

Fantastic relaxing sounds. Shut your eyes and you can feel you are under the canopy of the rain forest...wide variety of bird calls, monkeys, etc.....you can just feel it's morning in the jungle and life is celebrating!

5 out of 5 stars I wish WW were better appreciated.......2006-12-01

I bought "Rain Forest" in the 60s just on the strength of the album cover. The music inside matched its joyful color and evocative, tropical lushness. Wanderley had his biggest hit with the "Summer Samba" on this record, I guess, but he went on to record two albums that were even better, "Cheganca" and "Batucada." I wish these were not so criminally hard to get on CD. His improvisational finesse is at times absolutely amazing on these records and in a number of cuts on two later ones, "Moondreams" and "When It Was Done." He goes from cool and lilting to intense and exciting in each album. He was a wonderful, inspired, and, by the time he passed away, undeservedly marginalized musician.

5 out of 5 stars smile, smile.......2005-11-01

Walter Wanderley may not be the best organ player in the world, but he still is one of the nicest musician's I know. Pretty music for a relaxing sundy afternoon. I like Cried, cried and Beach Samba .
Come one with the bottle white wine!

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Rediscovery.......2005-10-26

I was amazed that I could find on a CD format the music of an album I had many years back but had misplaced. It was a most enjoyable redescovery. This music is as appealing now as it was when I first heard it forty years ago. To me, it is latin jazz at its best.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful arrangements of great Samba music........2005-08-03

Walter Wanderley is among the world's great jazz organists. I haven't heard from him much the last few years, so it was great to see this CD available. If you like jazz/organ music or samba, give this a try.

5 out of 5 stars The Grooviest Elevator Music Ever!.......2005-04-09

Summer Samba is probaly the elevator's most frequent song. It's the perfect music to just sit back and chill to, but there is some nice playing. Walter Wanderly was a pretty good organist. Let's face it, the man has chops! I'm not a regular fan of the bossa nova. Charlie Byrd, Stan Getz, and Anotonio Carlos Jobim usually put me to sleep, though I can recommend a couple albums that I have enjoyed by all those artists mentioned above. I have yet to hear any other of Walter's albums.

This album features his big hit, the famous, Summer Samba. Covered by a lot of musicians, it has become a classic. This album features Wanderly strutting his stuff, with his quick and graceful hands, doing bossa nova standards, like girl From Ipanema.

This is a great album to put on in the background more than anything. It's the epitome of 1960's bachelor music. An enjoyable listen from start to finish!

4 out of 5 stars The Music of Nature: listen.......2006-10-08

These and similar atmospheric recordings seem to have several types of buyer: those who want a sedative or sleep-inducer to calm their agitation or put them to sleep; those who want the hear an anthology of sounds they expected from watching nature shows or reading illustrated nature books; those who have a meditative ear of the music of nature and human ambience, like that of John Cage; and those who want an exotic background for routine daily activities to put themselves in another place, as if living in a hut in the field. I seek no application other than an appreciation of new sounds. I just listen to the virtual volume of space. If you are of like mind, this recording should be a worthy addition to your collection, like those of the splendid Ryko Cape Cod series.

5 out of 5 stars a bath in crazy wildlife.......2003-09-29

with all respect dear fellow review-writers... To me - this is one of the most delightful experiences to dwell in. Lie down, shut the mind and swim in sounds of animals never encountered, sometimes a bird comes close to the microphone while the background carpet of jungle-sound embraces. If you have been to the rainforest or not - it is a strange world which is great to recuperate in and an awe to fall into for the massive of species on the planet and the magic their sounds can produce.

5 out of 5 stars It's froglicious!.......2001-07-18

This is, without a doubt, the best frog album I own. If you like frogs, or mosquitos, or large bulbous things that chirp very loudly, you owe it to yourself to purchase this CD. In retrospect I have no idea why I bought this, and I certainly don't have any idea why this CD exists in the first place, but frog fans will be in frog heaven with this froglicious frog album.

2 out of 5 stars Yee-ouchh! A painfull cacophany of jungle sounds........2000-10-04

I bought this CD because of the impressive-sounding credentials of Ruth Happel, the lady who recorded all the sounds found on the disc. I was searching for a relaxing ambient recording, and I hoped that this would be a genuine, high-quality representation of actual rainforest animals, bugs and birds going about their daily routines of hooting, grunting, buzzing, and singing, accompanied by the gentle pattering of rain on leafy canopies.

Never having been within nine or ten thousand kilometres of an actual rainforest (!) I can't say for sure whether this CD actually does accurately capture the sounds of rainforest life. I can say however that this disc is painfully loud; I'd liken it to Nature's version of a heavy construction site, complete with a regiment of pneumatic drills, the revving of bulldozer engines and the hammer and clang of men, metal and concrete. Ouch!

I've played this disc twice in the six months since I bought it, and each time I've had to struggle to listen to the end, the sounds simply proving too disagreeable to make it worthwile. It isn't what I was looking for. If you're hoping to relax while this CD plays softly in the background you may be disappointed. I would recommend instead a CD called "Rainforest" by Echoes of Nature". In my warped and twisted opinion that particular CD is much more subtle and calming.

1 out of 5 stars Crickets and rain.......2000-07-25

20 minutes of crickets followed by 20 minutes of rain followed by (oh goody) another 20 minutes of crickets. If you listen real hard you can hear a bird or two. Too bad I didn't see the last review before I ordered it!
