NOTES:
"It's been 6 years since my last recording as a leader. Finally, with the help of some of New Orleans' finest musicians, I'm able to present you with a new CD, one I would like to call "Back To My Roots." My roots stem back years ago to marching, concert and stage band days at St. Leo The Great Elementary School, St. Augustine High School and to many hours of wood shedding in my parents garage at 1316 St. Denis Street. With this disc, my 3rd solo recording, I want to try to take you on a journey through my musical toots. I'm calling it "Back To My Roots" because I've included some numbers within the brass band format. I was introduced to New Orleans brass band music and traditional jazz by Danny Barker when I was 13 years old. He was helping the pastor of his church, the Fairview Baptist Church, organize a brass band or youth group for youngsters who either played a musical instrument or might be interested in playing one, in the Fairview Band. From playing jazz on the streets in marching bands and brass bands, to performing within the small ensemble context, I, and the gifted musicians who have joined me in making this recording, want to give you a good set of swinging, soulful music filled with variety and joy, music that will make you want to smile, pat your feet, get up and dance, just relax, or jump and shout!"
