Album Description

Naoyuki Onda's haunting, original keyboards entwine with a beautiful collage of shakuhachi, erhu, koto and other instruments from Asia, creating a rich and vivid landscape of sounds in "Wings in the Dawn," his second release on the Pacific Moon label.

In addition to releasing a previous album ("Dream") on the Pacific Moon label, he has worked on several other Pacific Moon projects as well: as a keyboard player on the albums "River" and "Rainbow" (by renowned erhu player Jia Peng-Fang, with whom Onda often performs in concert), and as one of four composers using the pentatonic musical scale, on Pacific Moon piano compilation albums, "Ancient City" and "Snow."

“I don't want to only be known as a pianist or composer, but as a creator of a world of sound,” explains Onda. “That world is not just Japanese or Chinese or American, but more of a utopia found in the heart…”

Very good CD --- cross between Yanni, Soul Ballet, and contemporary jazz. Its highlites; title cut "Wings in the Dawn", plus "Zooming Clouds" and "From the Cape".

Move over Hiroshima........2002-10-22

This is an excellant CD; my kind of music. Its one of the few smooth jazz oriented CDs with a drum machine used that is tolerable. This artist has a nice style thats somewhat original, but in the spirit of Hiroshima. It has R&B flavors, but sounds somehat ethereal. Maybe its the instruments used by the artist whose name I can't pronounce. In any event, all I can say is move over Hiroshima. This is an easy purchase.

A different taste for everyone.......2002-03-20

I LOVE this recording.
I think this recording is very suitable for listeners who hope for a new feeling in new age music. The synthesiser orchestration and piano tones may be familiar to everyone, but as you listen on, you'll notice the difference. The Asian instruments flowing along with familiar sounds creates a special sensation, a different taste, and it seems that you are brought to a different world. The easy melodies composed by Naoyuki Onda are unforgettable, and Onda's good keyboard playing makes this recording even more outstanding. I believe that Onda has suceeded in creating a new world of sound.
For those who love to try new things, I strongly recommend this record!

Just wonderful music.......2000-04-26

Addinsell was unknown to me until I heard the Warsaw Concerto on the radio. I was hooked. There are hints of Rachmaninov in the Concerto, and the lyricism is quite moving. I bought the cd for the Concerto, but I was absolutely stunned by the beauty of the rest of the music on this disc. All of it is melodic, sometimes wistful, sometimes melancholy, sometimes joyful. "Blithe Spirit" is wonderful, as is "The day will dawn" and "The Passionate Friends". The Royal Ballet Sinfonia play as if they truly love this music, and they are captured well by the ASV engineers. It is a delight from beginning to end.

British movie music at its best.......1999-04-17

I have been listening to classical and movie music for more years than I'll ever admit to, and I must say that Addinesll's music on this particular CD is all the usual adjectives and more...romantic, moving, at times even spiritual. It will probably appeal most to Anglophiles who also happen to love wonderful music. Grab a top notch gin, an easy chair, dream and enjoy.

What went wrong!!!.......2003-01-16

Ed Alleyne Johnson is an incredibly talented musician. Excellent violin player. His CD "Purple Electric Violin Concerto" was simply amazing. The music was smooth and each note "velvety". This CD has shifted the focus to his wife's singing. I cannot hear Ed's violin, it was way in the back. And I don't think she can sing!!!

Why isn't more music like this.......2002-03-18

This was the third release by Ed Alleyne Johnson after Purple Electric Violin Concerto. Ed plays the violin and a few other instruments, whilst his wife Denyze sings.

There are songs about Vampires, Witches, UFOs and God. It sounds like it could be a horror album, but it's very much concerned on the romantacism element. It's a superb album and definitely worth getting if you enjoy mellow and relaxing tunes.

A Beautiful Masterpiece.......2004-06-08

This CD was given to me a number of years ago and ever since, I have frequently turned to this music for peace, solitude, and even to get a few ideas on how to improve on my own guitar playing. J. David Lindsay is an extremely talented musician and probably one of the most underestimated guitarists of our time. I have never heard an album that was so well written and recorded (it's flawless!). His playing style is unique and innovative and he has produced some of the most soothing and nostalgic guitar pieces you might ever hear. This CD is also filled with tremendous musical insight for any aspiring musician. These arrangements are absolutely gorgeous... and yet you wont find his finger-picking techniques anywhere else.
Every time I play this CD around my friends or family, people always ask me "who is this?" Believe me, this CD is definitely worth checking out. Give it a listen and I guarantee you wont be disappointed!

Super, understated Fingerstyle Guitar.......2002-02-12

I picked this album up in summer of 1998 while on a business trip. It is very subtle, understated, clean, and uncluttered. I love it as "background" music for my day, and consider it as good as Eric Tingstad for it's classical flavor, with a romantic (but not overblown) undertones.

Well worth buying!!
