Product Description
The Echoes Living Room Concerts Volume 4 draws from the best of the Living Room Concert series on Echoes, the daily music soundscape heard nationwide on Public Radio International.
In addition to new versions of some of our favorite tunes from these artists, there's also a few pieces only available on this CD. "Tidal Memory" by the British techno-tribal group Tuu, "Glass Houses" by guitarist Rob Eberhard Young and an instrumental version of "Here I Am" by Tracy & Thea Silverman can only be found on The Echoes Living Room Concerts Volume 4.
Some of the giants of modern instrumental music appear on LRC4. How else to describe Paul Winter, the founder of the Paul Winter Consort, the creator of world fusion chamber music and more. He visited Echoes with a soprano saxophone and the sounds of the Grand Canyon. Then there's legendary guitarist Pierre Bensusan, who unfolded the intricate finger-picking of "The Alchemist." William Ackerman, the founder of Windham Hill Records, offers one of his classic guitar pieces, recorded in his Vermont home.
The electric side of Echoes is reflected in two stellar performances, the unreleased track by Tuu and Hans Christian's "Rapture," where he surrounds electric cello lead melody with electronic orchestrations.
Celtic music is represented by a heartrending version of "Gabhaim Molte Bride" by Irish harpist Aine Minogue. William Coulter and Mary McLaughlin, who made the popular Celtic Requiem album, play a beautiful version of "Lament of the Sea." One of our favorite singers from the past year is also featured: Kazakhstan-born Irina Mikhailova performed "Molihta" with cellist Hans Christian and percussionist Geoffrey Gordon. Rounding out the collection is a gorgeous duet by cellist David Darling and Norwegian pianist Ketil Bjornstad, improvising on a theme from William Byrd, and a solo piece from Liz Story, a longtime Echoes favorite.
