=Dean Raskin is an award-winning composer and violinist. He has collaborated with and has been recognized by A.S.C.A.P, Juilliard, The Harlem School of the Arts, The New York Federation of Music Clubs, and many other institutions. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Arts For People organization.

Excellent CD. Doreen has a very soothing voice spoken in a relaxed manner. The soft music in the background enhances the relaxed mood without becoming a focus in itself. The script she uses is concise enough to provide adequate guidance yet open-ended enough to make listining to it a very personal experience which can be listened to again and again as if it were the first time.

Try high quality speakers.......2007-07-08

I bought this cd along with several others. After awhile this has become my favorite. It's not the words or imagery, and this might sound wierd.
I tried it out recently on a higher quality system with expensive speakers. It may just be me, but it has the effect of percodan or loritab (pain medication).
Something about her voice, on the high end speakers multiplies the effect of relaxing me, even as I'm sitting up with eyes open. On my $100 stereo it's nothing special although still my favorite.

This CD is a strange mix of things -- from a guided imagery trip to a tale about a boy building a wall. Whatever. The bottom line is that it puts me to sleep almost every time. I can't remember the last time I heard the CD to the end. Maybe only twice out of 60 playings.

I can still have problems staying asleep (insomnia and mild sleep apnea) but that's another issue.

My wife has a bunch of Wendi Freisen CDs which absolutely do not work for me. Where Wendi's voice grates and annoys, Doreen's voice is, "like buttah".

Highly recommended.

Sweet sleep!.......2006-08-25

I bought this for my husband to help with his relaxation and sleep. Not only does he love it, but I do to! I put it in my DVD player at night, set the tv for auto shut off and Doreen knocks me out! I've been sleeping so well myself since listening to her. She has a great voice for relaxation, and I've yet to hear the whole cd! I also gave this to my mom who has problems with sleeping and she dittos what I've said.

The use of a forceful, halting, overly enunciated speech pattern makes this a terrible disc for relaxation. None of the language seems to flow naturally from the speaker. Is she trying to "keep time" or end the spoken word before the harp solos? The first script leaves something to be desired, too. Harp music is nice, but the second track zaps you wide awake and the startling voice begins again. The music for track 2 is too active for drifting into peaceful place.

Splendidly tranquil...soul soothing! For those who are new to meditation, this guided meditation gently transports you to deeper levels. For those who meditate regularly, this tool is a wonderful addition to your routine, with the combination of harp and voice calming your day. Enjoy!

Am I missing something?.......2002-09-06

So many people love this music, that I can't help feel it's me who is missing something. I found it irritating, plucky, distracting, fragmented and tense. Needless to say, I didn't relax. I'm a relaxation therapist and had bought it for my clients as well as myself. Reading so many praises and unable to listen to samples from my computer, ...

Journey of Bliss.......2002-08-22

When I first heard The Journey I closed my eyes, fell into a series of deep full breathes. Before long my scalp was tingling. Padma Sahasrara. I was in a state of bliss for the next 90 minutes. That sold me on Dean Raskin. We spin him in our Dallas store regularly now. This is excellent massage music. Good for naps too. Sometimes I enjoy just intently listening as the music unfolds.

Soothing AND Therapeutic!.......2001-05-21

"The Journey" is not only extremely soothing, it is truly therapeutic! I often recommended Dean Raskin's music to patients and to readers of my Diabetic.com newsletter. His CD's help them reduce their stress--an important part of diabetes control.

As for myself...listening to his music is a delicious treat-- especially "The Journey", which is just exquisite! I highly recommend it!

Get those alpha waves leveling out.......2001-05-18

Mention the words bring nature into the museum and invariably you will have the conservation staff reaching for a can of bug spray! For some of us however, the melodic sounds of nature and soothing melodies are a welcome antidote to the hustle and bustle of budgets and exhibition deadlines. I don't know how you handle stress but speaking personally, I have always enjoyed having a CD of relaxation music in the office, to get those alpha waves leveling out. A little while ago I discovered the compositions of Dean Raskin. The artist has sent me a copy of his recent CD The Journey – deep relaxation and I am enthusiastic in my endorsement of all 12 tracks. A personal favourite is track three – Dancing Fireflies, with its clever plucking of strings against a mellow backdrop of sound. Available from Middle C records and most conveniently through Amazon.com the Journey is a must for leveling out after a hard day at the office. The musicianship is skillful and the mastering quality ensures an ambience that embraces the listener. This is a fantastic CD, and it has great sounds intermingled for a relaxing adventure. When we were in Melbourne, the musician was selling the album and playing songs near the city market. We sat and listened for a long time--and then purchased the album. Our American friends who lived in Melbourne at the time also purchased a copy and we discussed our "find" last summer again. We highly recommend it and have passed it along to many others to listen to.

Very Special Australian Music.......2000-10-18

When you walk in the centre of Copenhagen you are bound to run into some kind of entertainment. Often the entertainers are foreigners who have come to Denmark to play their music, often based on their own cultural background. This type of music is often called World Music. RiverTribe, from Australia, is just such a band. They could, without a doubt, have been playing in the streets of Copenhagen casting spells on people with their incredibly emotional didgeridoo based music. RiverTribe take time building a meditation atmosphere and the time is well spent. If you want music to enhance a romantic moment this will do it.

When I first heard about RiverTribe, I was misinformed. See, all I been told was that it was a couple of guys who played music with interesting instruments, including the digeridoo.
