This big rock candy mountain of an album justifies some if by no means all of the poses and pretentious statements made by Manchester's natural-born rock & roll deities. A dramatic attempt to rekindle the flames of the original British Invasion, Morning Glory rolls 30 years of Britpop tradition into one irresistible (if achingly self-conscious) whole. "Wonderwall" can be read as a Beatles tribute, "Don't Look Back in Anger" feels like a Mott The Hoople anthem and "She's Electric" and "Morning Glory" are chewy pop confections. --Jeff BatemanCustomer Reviews:
Oasis best.......2007-07-19
A classic album with a lot of great tracks on it.......2007-06-27
Essential Listening.......2007-06-02
It is apparent that the lads of Oasis have put alot into every track. There is not one weak song on the album. Albeit it really isn't the most original stuff out there (the songs of The Beatles, T. Rex, etc. all come to mind when listening), but it is by far some of the most satisfying and enjoyable Britpop out there. The UK has always been a haven for excellent rock bands...Pink Floyd, Led Zep, The Who, The Clash...and with this album, Oasis can now be listed among those. Leading the wave of British rockers in the 90's, now looking back it is apparent that these guys were a blessing, the complete opposite of the grunge and lame pop dominating the airwaves in those days.
On to the songs themselves, "Wonderwall", "Don't Look Back In Anger", "Cast No Shadow", and "Champagne Supernova" are all instantly recognizable as some of the most popular hits found on here. However, throughout there are many more gems. "Hello", which leads us off, is by far one of the rougher songs on this overall softer (for Oasis, at least) CD, more reminiscent of Definitely Maybe, and is a great way to lead things off. In the same vein as "Hello" lies "Morning Glory", a fantastic song with an incredibly catchy guitar riff. One of the most underrated songs on here, with clever lyrics and a unique rhythm is "She's Electric". Everything on here deserves a listen, as everything is just as good as the next.
Overall, a must-have for those who wish to return to the good old days of rock and roll. This album is certainly a piece of the progression of Oasis, but musically it harks back to the days when an the entire album was true music, no filler included. A superb CD.
Horrible, gut-wrenching, awful.......2007-06-02
Oasis's music is boring, unoriginal, and pointless. After listening to the totally deritave, ________ rock, it's a wonder why Lame Gallagher and his _________ brother Noel think they are the best band ever. NOt even close, not even close. Hey Now! Is a ___________ attempt at a ballad, and with Lame's shreiking, piercing, whiny voice on the top is like listening to the sounds of a fire over a screaming person trapped in the fire.
Speaking of __________ singing, Lame Gallagher's annoying voice shoots down ANY chance of making Morning Glory?. IT's bad enough that his attitude is laughable, but his ridicolous image on stage only covers up how much of a __________ singer he is. It's an insult to Johnny Rotten when he described his voice of being a mix between a Beatles member and the legendary Sex Pistols singer. His lyrics aren't original, so the chance he has of becoming a good singer shoots himself down.
And finally, the atnics of Lame and Noel makes Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst seem like a saint. The brothers attack George Harrison, Phil Collins, yet those singers do their own things and don't suck. The fighting and ridicolous atnics that are nothing but laughable, immature, _____ to rational people.
Don't believe the hype. There is nothing redeeming about Oasis. Try the Beatles instead (no __________ duh!)

They're perfect. Just don't get to know them!.......2007-05-16
What makes this album so great? Simple. Every song is good. Some, like the micro epic closer, Champagne Supernova, are classic. I just wish the jamming guitar solo would go on for another 10 minutes, but that's okay. And if maybe some of the other songs took off in that balls-to-the-wall sort of way. No? That's okay, too.
The only song I'd skip is one of their most popular, Wonderwall. I don't know. It just feels droany and whiny. But it's still good. That's what this album is all about (even that song that's just a clip of a jam is worth it). It's like they could do nothing wrong. If only they stayed that way. Oh well.
Just a warning. Don't ever, I mean ever, listen to an interview with them. Promise? Seriously. It's like if you were into Lenny Kravitz and all of a sudden heard him say that he enjoys clubbing Harp Seals and strangling kittens. That's why I try not to read tell-all biographies. If someone's an artist, just let their art speak for them. Not their misguided words.
Most of all, sit back and enjoy the Brit invasion album in 30 years. And no, they're not better than the Beatles. Just a little different. And a lot more obnoxious.

Football's appeal comes from the vicarious joys of seeing huge men racing around a field trying to knock each other's heads off, right? Not for the millions of people who grew up on the Sunday-morning highlight shows compiled by NFL films (which, through the magic of cable, can now be seen pretty much whenever you turn the TV on). The stylized slow-motion storytelling made the violence seem like a vicious ballet--something that Sam Peckinpah, John Woo, and Ringo Lam have also accomplished in their films--but what's a ballet without music? Sam Spence and Tom Hedden composed a series of classic themes that emphasized the relentless power and dangerous beauty of football (complete with marching drums, heroic horns, and dramatic string sections) to complement the highlights, and John Facenda's poetic narrations brought the whole thing together. Facenda possesses the deepest rumble of a voice this side of James Earl Jones, and listening to him narrate highlights form last week's game makes it sound as if the game were a timeless classic played decades in the past. The Power and the Glory is truly an unexpected pleasure. --Randy SilverCustomer Reviews:

Other than that, there are some good numbers mixed in with audio clips. But it's somewhat inconsistent. And I wonder if some numbers that might have been more interesting were not included. I don't know. I like to think, that is, that I can put together an interesting 'mix tape'. I often wonder about those putting together 'greatest hits' albums, though. What have they left out that should be there?

Album Description
In the early days, when success was still a pipe dream, guitarist Chad Gilbert had to drop out of high school to focus on the band. Drummer Cyrus Bolooki, turned down a scholarship and a chance to follow in the footsteps of his father, who performed the first heart transplant in Florida. All the New Found Glory band members had to make sacrifices along the way to make their dream a reality. All this comes to mind on a recent sunny summer afternoon in San Diego when singer Jordan Pundik confidently calls their fifth album "the one that will stand the test of time." And then again a few days later when Gilbert declares, "We've never been happier with any other record.""Coming Home" was even written differently. Rather than the usual tour bus and dressing room pow-wows, the band moved into a house together in Malibu called Morning View (where Incubus famously recorded their album of that name), where they sat around the living room and wrote the best songs of their lives. With Paul Miner of Death By Stereo and Warren Fitzgerald of the Vandals and Gwen Stefani's band overseeing the demos, it was like music camp, with a mission.
It only takes one listen to figure out the album opener "Oxygen" is about not being able to breathe without that special person. And the first single, "It's Not Your Fault," capturing the essence of young love and heartbreak with lyrics like, "There were rapid statements about life commitments, A Sense Of Heat, That I Couldn't Bare To Touch "
Even the album's most poignant moment, and the one song not all about the girls, has a simple message. On the guitar-driven epic "When I Die," Gilbert addresses the 2004 death of his father. "There are always songs about death that are really sad, and this is an uplifting song that gives me strength."
When it came time to record, the band met with all the usual suspects, but decided on producer Thom Panunzio, an A&R veteran at Geffen who has recorded some of the biggest names in music history. "Because he's worked with Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, he brought this classic vibe to it, especially with the tones he got," Pundik says. "We learned we don't have to double-up 15 Mesa cabinets and make it all distorted to make it sound big."

New Found Glory Continues.......2006-12-16
On Coming Home, expect some of the same NFG sound. Songs like "Hold my Hand" and "Oxygen" are good openers for the album. They are able to pull the listener in. I rate both high. The album continues strong with their single "It's not your fault", "On my mind", and "Coming Home".
Funny...all of which deal with...relationships. After those five, the album starts to struggle.
"Love and Pain", as well as "Connected" are in the NFG style. "When I Die" would have been a great track finisher but instead they chose "Boulders"--a slow ballad type song.
If you find them, "Over me", "Make it Right", "Golden", and "It's all around you" all should have made the album. They are more happy and upbeat than the chosen middle tracks.
I am not disappointed in the album, but it is not my favorite. I support NFG fully, and I am very big fan. However; I hope the 6th full length record will have more marketability.

Director Edward Zwick's 1989 tale of the first company of black soldiers in the Union Army during the Civil War captured America's abiding fascination with that great struggle. However, its most unsung player was composer James Horner, who created one of his most grand and memorable scores. So memorable, in fact, that some of its rich cures have been recycled by other filmmakers and Horner himself. More than any other single work, it's Glory that's responsible for Horner's remarkable rise to the top of his profession in the '90s. --Jerry McCulleyAmazon.com
Director Ed Zwick's stirring, tragic Civil War epic inspires a gorgeous, deeply moving score from James Horner, who mirrors the story's bitter ironies and ultimate outcome through a main theme and recurring motifs that emphasize the elegiac over the conventionally heroic. While martial drums inevitably rustle beneath Horner's autumnal charts, the somber main theme, when stated by the Harlem Boys Choir, is at once beautiful and heartbreaking, telegraphing the fate of the story's regiment of African-American volunteers in the Union Army. The climactic battle scene, itself a marvel of cinematic impressionism, elicits a more urgent, insistent Latin theme reminiscent of Carl Orff, and just as dramatic. --Sam SutherlandCustomer Reviews:

Glory, A Truly Glorious Soundtrack.......2006-09-25
The main theme is rousing, first starting with some light flutes then builds up into a beautiful harmony of strings, cellos, and drums. This main theme most prominantly found in "Preparing for Battle" and "A Call to Arms" has been recycled and been the subject to many variations of Horner's later scores and even by other "rival" composers. Another theme which sounds quite like the one in Glory is the main theme in Braveheart.
Horner has composed a truly magnificant score that invokes emotion from the listener; he brings the tension and the caranage back in "Charging Fort Wagner" and the majestic main theme most dominant as the African Americans muster and make ready for battle in "Preparing for Battle." Horner's use of the choir (I think more specifically the Boys Choir of Harlem) adds an African American soul to the score.
This score, in my opinion, oudoes Horner's later scores for Titanic and Braveheart.
Horner has crafted a true musical masterpiece with this score. Listen to it and prepare to be brought back to the Civil War and marching amongst African American soldiers as they assault Fort Wagner.

Amazon.com essential recording
After a long period of unfocused weirdness, Young spotted grunge around the corner and declared unity with the loud, scruffy sounds coming from Seattle. The countryish ballads, such as the opening "Farmer John," get roaring Crazy Horse treatment, and the headbanging "F*!#in' Up" is the most self-effacing rock anthem since the Who recorded "I'm a Boy." Amid the clatter, though, there is beauty: Crazy Horse's sympathetic backup vocals turn "Mansion on the Hill" into a pretty pop song despite the electric guitars, and even the white noise that closes the 1990 album is soothing in a scream-therapy kind of way. --Steve KnopperCustomer Reviews:
It's Not Grunge.......2007-07-12
All true.
But it's lyrical and melodic and powerful and adult and moody and wistful in ways that grunge can never approach. Grunge is little more than garage rock with better amps, and it does not do justice to Neil to call him grunge or compare him to grunge. Men and boys, what that is.
I need to listen a lot more to say that this surpasses Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, but I can mention it in the same breath. The playing is probably better, but I don't know if the tunes are.
No Neil Young fan should miss this collection.
RAMshackle crASH!.......2007-06-25
Cryptic, misanthropic, ascetic, solipsistic, deliver of bad news, indirectly romantic, slightly stoned and resilient as all hell, Neil Young, middle-aged hippiepunk, throws down with the "world's 3rd greatest garage band" and, David Briggs managing the sound (his blistering best mix), it all careens together loud and slouchy like a mythically cool afterschool basement jam. The guitar solos are merciless, the beat is tipsy, the bass is pus, the chords are melancholy, the lyrics are passive-aggressive and Young's singing is desperate. The overall vibe is utterly cathartic. So supersimple, it's amazing (any) grown men can do this sort of sensitive, disturbed BOY thing.
Beautiful - and nasty.
solid listen.......2007-04-09
I can't help it- the overall sound of Ragged Glory is that of hard rock and a distint, muddy rock sound buried in the mix. It really works. Sometimes you hear these muddy guitars playing behind a country-sounding song and Neil's vocal work, while other times they're playing behind melodic, lengthy jams. A really good album here, folks. Nothing else like it.
The title sums it up better than any words I can say.......2007-02-22
The best in an incredible career..........2006-11-03
Love and Only Love, IMO, the best song Neil ever put out. Right behind it are Love to Burn, Over and Over Again. Saw two shows in the Weld tour, and these songs were even better live (I'd give Weld 5 stars too)
