5 out of 5 stars Absolutely outstanding!.......2005-02-13

This is one of my all-time favorite albums, hands down. I never get tired of it, and it always puts me in a great, mellow, energetic mood. What a pity these guys broke up. Their collaboration was sheer genius. Search this album out! It's worth it!

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2003-01-19

I didn't like this one as much as "Dance the Devil Away", but it is still a very good CD. I just liked the spirit in "Dance the Devil Away" more than this one. The didg and guitar work are outstanding on both albums-the later "solo" material by these two wasn't nearly as good as the magic Outback captured.

5 out of 5 stars Not to be Missed!!!!!.......2002-02-05

Easiest album I have ever listened to hands down. I'm not one who enjoys much world music, but even I can appreciate the beauty of this album. Melodic, rhythmic, and will just put you in a better state of mind! As an Australian I'm saying that 'Baka' perfectly captures the essence of Australia and is one of the best kept secrets in music.

5 out of 5 stars No one can walk away from this music!.......2001-09-27

I have had all the Baka, Baka Beyond, and Dr. Didg albums since their release and there is no more captivating "new" sound than this. (Matter of fact, I am listening to the "Baka Playlist" for the umpteen zillionth time as I write this!) First off, it is a brilliant stroke of creative genius to bring the indigenous peoples' music to the fore. It resulted in a wonderful mix of instruments and vocals. You won't believe the depth of their musical talent (remember, too, there are loads of them involved) and the beat is infectious, plain and simple. What a great time these guys must have had in Cameroon doing this. And hats off to them for sharing the very best of it with you and me!

Buy all their albums (and do not overlook the Dr. Didg [Didgeridoo player from Baka] album, Out of the Woods, another EXCELLENT, out of the ordinary, spin-off effort). If these albums all went out of print tomorrow, I'll guarantee there isn't a single owner that would sell his or her collection for 10X what they paid for it, this music is that special!

For those of you that don't already know about it, you might also try and find the old Mick Fleetwood album that he did years ago with a similar group of natives (mostly kids) in Ghana. Great stuff, the album-jacket photo of the kids drumming is worth the price alone!

One reviewer advises that you give this music as Christmas gifts. Great advice, ABSOLUTELY! The repeating gift: best investment in longterm friendship you can make!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for road trips!.......2001-04-27

This album has such a great feel. Very upbeat and fresh, yet mellow enough for late evening listening. Memories of driving from Anchorage to Fairbanks in late summer before the first frost. While I am fond of both their albums, I am partial to this one. Baka feels more fun and lively than their second album. But they are both very excellent albums and make a nice pair of acoustic albums. (Actually, they are great to listen to anytime, not only for road trips. But you'll probably figure that out on you own...)

5 out of 5 stars Dance the Devil Away.......2004-12-16

This is some of the best music around, no kidding. It's got some of the most awesome instrumentals I've ever heard. This music is perfect anywhere, no matter what you're doing, where you're going, or why you're doing it.

WARNING: This will make you dance. This will make you feel awesome. This will take you places. Do not buy this unless you are willing to risk all of the above every time you play it.

No truly, this music is awesome. Aside from the fact that, yes, it will make you dance, feel great, and take you places. It is completely worth every penny you spend on it.

    5 out of 5 stars GREAT.......2004-06-08

I love this CD and listen to it all the time. I got it from my dance teacher and the class loved it so much that we came up with a dance to go with it and now compete with it. All of the judges comment about the great song. (We use Animal Life)

4 out of 5 stars Very good starter for the blind enthusiast.......2003-06-25

I would like to start out by explaining that I am not a fan of world music in particular, but I have an interest and the patience for all music. For anyone like me, who is primarily fond of hard rock, you just may love this album. I was initially introduced to this album by my parents and at first did not care too much for it, but with my growing interest in the fusion of heavy metal and tribal music like Sepultura has done with songs such as Kiowas, Ratamahatta, and others, I found myself looking to this album for a more purified version of what I considered to be "tribal music". Don't get me wrong, this album in no way resembles Sepultura or heavy metal for that matter, but it does give me the same sense of satisfaction from a primal point of view. All the songs are instrumental and while maintaining a similar composition, each track owns up to it's own atmosphere. My preferred tracks are *Cuban Connections*, *Animal Life* and my favorite, *Medina* which has some what of an eerie sound and presence to it. If you even think that you may be interested in an album like this, I highly recommend that you pick it up, as it will surely be a corner stone to integrating music genres into your collection.

    5 out of 5 stars perfect.......2003-01-19

I bought this CD not knowing anything about it. I liked didgeridoo and that was the only reason for buying it. I loved it immediately. The guitar is actually one of my favorite parts. Martin's style is very unique and fits perfectly with the rest of the band.

    Great fiddlin' too.

5 out of 5 stars What an album!.......2001-01-27

I bought this cd many years ago, but it has consistently remained one of my favorites. I'm not a huge fan of "world music," but this album is just so wonderfully beautiful and exotic. The music varies between the airily light-hearted and the darkly romantic. This disc is also a blessing for those unfamiliar with the didgeridoo, a simple instrument with unbelievable range. The 'doo, along with guitar, violin, and numerous African percussion instruments, creates an incredibly unique sound that has to be experienced. Buy this spectacular album, and look for Outback's other release, "Baka."

5 out of 5 stars Australian Bush Songs.......2005-09-26

First heard this music at the Kuranda Railway station in Australia. I probably was the only one who bought the tape at the railway station. It was a special edition and quite expensive. I enjoyed the tape very much and decided to buy the CD since tapes tend to wear out. I got a much better deal buying from AMAZON, than I would have received from the Kuranda railway. The version you sent me has a different logo, than what the Kuranda railway was selling. However the music and artists are identical. Wish I originally purchased from you instead of the Kuranda railway

This is a great CD! The songs are of the folk quality and describe the true Aussie personna. A varied selection of songs go from the well-known "Waltzing Matilda" to songs such as "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" which will bring a tear to the eyes of even the toughest personality.

If you want a good overview of what has made Australia what it is today, this CD contains just what you need.

Typicial Kev, wonderful cd, you'll love it, just make sure you have a thick skin!!

          5 out of 5 stars Bloody Brilliant.......2007-01-03

I absolutley love this album, the songs are hilarious and so is he. As Kevin says if you are sensitive do not listen to this album. It is not a politically correct album, but bloody funny.
Do not play this album with children around, you don't want them to start swearing... I have recommended this album to many family and friends and gotten a great response.
Buy more of his albums, they are great.

          4 out of 5 stars Classic Kev.......2005-03-19

This is actualy the second Live album (official) that Kev released. It's the follow up to "Let Loose Live In London" which I have to admit is the better of the two albums. If this one was a two disc aswell it probably would have enough material to compete.

But to somebody who already has that album, then this one is not a clone. Some things are identicle, but it's all new material and jokes. It is a great laugh and well worth listning to over and over and over again. I do recoend the London show over this one, but thats not to say I don't recomend this album. It is P*** funny... but definitly not for the faint of heart. There is a lot of naughty words and jokes, and your great grandmother would be rollin gin her grave if she heard this album.. and thats why I love Kev's comedy so much.

Also check out Rodney Rude & John Valby if you like KBW.

5 out of 5 stars Not for the everyone but hilarious for some.......2004-12-23

I was recently in Australia vacationing and a friend let me listen to a couple of Kev's CDs and I was in tears. If you have no problem with low brow humor and lots of dirty thoughts pick up any of Kev's CDs. Absolutely the funniest stuff I ever heard.

            Album Details

The Combination of Guitar and Didgeridoo Seems Perhaps an Unlikely One, Until You Hear it for the First Time. On "Baka", Martin Cradick and Graham Wiggins Forged an Agreeable Alliance Between European and Australasian Folk Musics ("an Dro Nevez" May Be the First Breton Traditional Tune Ever to Feature a Didgeridoo!). They were Joined by Future Outback Members Ian Campbell and Sagar N'gom on Percussion. Outback Crosses the Cultural Music Barriers and Interweaves them Without Pretentious Artifice. The Eclectically Blended Traditional Australian Didgeridoo and Modern European Acoustic Guitar Compliment One Another Perfectly. You Can Hear the Bark of Australian Animals on the Didgeridoo, Feel their Movement Through the Racing Acoustic Melodies on the Guitar, Sense their Presence. You Are on Walkabout: The Sound, Smell, Taste of the Outback Are Here.

            5 out of 5 stars AMAZING.......2001-05-26

This record is the best record i've heard in 15 years. If you don't hear this record as soon as possible, you will go blind and die a lonely death. If you like 16 Horsepower or Old 97s or Whiskeytown or anything like that, buy Outback Country Vampire IMMEDIATELY.

5 out of 5 stars Jabe = Incredible! Every song pulls you in and won't let go.......2001-05-22

Outback Country Vampire is one of the best rock/roots CD's out there. I saw them live in Boston and was hooked in an instant. The raw feelings come through so strongly in every song, you'll find yourself playing this CD over and over again. Unbelievable !!

5 out of 5 stars People will be listening to Jabe 50 years from now.......2001-05-12

Those of you who thought alt-country died with the breakup of Uncle Tupelo were wrong, wrong, wrong. Rest assured that there's at least one disaffected pseudo-redneck still making mind-bending, heart-wrenching albums that sound like an unholy cross between Johnny Cash and The Clash. In the great tradition of Hank Williams, Outback Country Vampires will inspire you to question the meaning of life and dump your girlfriend so you can hang out full-time in some back-roads bar and be comforted by a flickering neon Budweiser sign. Jabe's album rocks, and the lyrics are as top-notch as one would expect from a guy who won both the Boston Music Awards "Outstanding Debut Album" and The Abe Olman Songwriting Award honors in 2000. Standout tracks? All of `em. For pain, longing, misery, and redemption, it just doesn't get any better.

            4 out of 5 stars Completely Hooked.......2001-04-19

I first saw this group in a tiny local bar with about forty patrons. I was so blown away by their sound and performance that I have sought out their gigs ever since. If you have any inclination towards inspired funky rockin country, this album is for you. The musicanship is fabulous and the singer along with his lyrics will keep you listening over and over again.
