An amazing experience. His music guided the entire birth process and kept the atmosphere calm and gentle.
Product Description
This retrospective collection spans the years from 1988 to present.
A few of the pieces have appeared on previous cassette projects, however most are unreleased tracks that have been waiting to fall upon willing ears. Some solo, some collaborations, some entirely electronic, and yet others acoustic. The many facets of my muse. Upon listening, though, I think you'll find a consistency and style that is uniquely my own and reflects my lifestyle and cosmology.
I have been composing with electro-acoustic instruments since the age of 17 and have enjoyed the many challenges and possibilities that have presented themselves along the way. This album combines my love for ethnomusicology, nature, technology and expansion.
I give thanks to the forerunners and virtual mentors that have inspired my art: Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Christopher Franke, Paul Winter, PFM, David Bowie, Steve Reich, Chick Corea, John McGlaughlin and countless others.
Van Alpert deserves a special thanks for his many years of encouragement, friendship and enthusiasm. He assisted as mix engineer on most of the older tracks and currently is part of the live band.
When I was approached to do this compilation the timing and intent was perfect. It is the first of a series of recordings that benefit The Ojai Birth Resource and Family Center in Ojai, California, my home for the last three years. I will be donating 30% of each sale to this organization to help further their education and outreach programs.

In the grand, color-bending tradition of psychedelic experimentalism, Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother takes as its title an inscrutable phrase and under the title launches a similarly inscrutable--or at least dense--musical concatenation. The title suite features French-horn-led brass melodies riffed on by David Gilmour's guitar and the rhythm section, all of which veers into choral passages that recall György Ligeti's vocal works and then almost atonal pulses of keyboards that mask reams of audio snippets swirling underneath. And then there's some moody folk from Roger Waters, an almost Kinks-ish rambler from Richard Wright, then more moody folk (this time from Gilmour) on "Fat Old Sun," and, to close, the spirited melodic runaround of "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast." There's a range of emotion here, from doleful to crazed to humorous (especially the dramatized comments on macrobiotics in the closer). Atom Heart Mother was a spotlight ahead for Pink Floyd, showing the extensions of form the band would engage in so successfully on Dark Side of the Moon just a few short years later. --Andrew BartlettCustomer Reviews:
A Fan.......2007-05-12
Famous more for the cover than the music.......2007-03-24
They had also done a PBS concert following the release of this album which you may be able to find online that's worth checking out.
The title track isn't "Echoes" but is better than some of the studio side of "Ummagumma". "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" is an exercise in ambient sound.
2 songs from this era, "Embryo" and "Biding My Time" weren't included but there's enough room on the CD for it to go on.
I think that if you're into groups like Can, you can hear what may have influenced "Tago Mago", and it is definitely a transition album for Pink Floyd that without this, "Meddle" and "Obscured by Clouds" wouldn't have been made, which in turn would help develop "Dark Side of the Moon".
An Obscure, Yet Classic Floyd Album.......2007-03-21
I, for one, respect the hell out of these years for the Floyd. They were rewarded for their persistence and experimental nature which helped create their sound. Atom Heart Mother is one particular case of this happening.
This album is highly degraded by the band themselves nowadays... David Gilmour has stated on a couple of occasions his disgust for this record, and other members of the band have as well. Drummer Nick Mason's criticism of the album is much more restrained than the others, as he has noted that many of the elements, such as the long instrumentations and styles later found in DSoTM and Wish You Were Here, were first started with this album.
The name of the album came from a headline in a British newspaper which told of a news story about a pregnant woman who had recieved an atomic pacemaker. The cover of the album, a cow in the English countryside, was a specific request from the band to designer Storm Thorgerson to provide them something that would deflect from the overall theme of the album, which would allow them to be more creative with their music. Thorgerson went for a drive, and shot the first mundane thing he saw, a cow standing in a pasture.
Here is the list of tracks:
1. Atom Heart Mother Suite (23:44) (Waters, Gilmour, Wright, Mason, Geesin)
2. If (4:31) (Waters)
3. Summer '68 (5:29) (Wright)
4. Fat Old Sun (5:24) (Gilmour)
5. Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast (13:00) (Waters, Gilmour, Wright, Mason)
The opening track, on the vinyl version of this album, took up all of the first side. A very experimental and long track, composer Ron Geesin, an aquaintence of Roger Waters, was brought in with a full orchestra backdrop to add to the song. The track is somewhat dragging, definately sprawling, and a little pretentious, but it's not hard to recognize the talent in the piece. Gilmour's guitar was solid throughout the composition, and while not really leading to any place in particular, the Suite definately keeps you engaged throughout, and is an impressive, if not somewhat confusing track.
The middle tracks are individual songwriting contributions from the band. Waters' "If" is a folky, somewhat mocking ballad. Wright's "Summer '68" seems to me to be a mix of The Kinks and The Beatles, taking elements of both and rolling it into one. Of the solo compositions in the album, I enjoyed this one the most, as well as the fact that it's probably the strongest of the three in it's presentation. Gilmour's "Fat Old Sun" is a nostalgic song of the days of youth. He'd hit this theme later on as well, at the end of the Floyd's run with the song "High Hopes" from The Division Bell. The songwriting of Fat Old Sun is very personal, but weak in comparison with later Floyd compositions. The end guitar solo is quite good, existing also a sign of things to come.
The final track "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" continues where Atom Heart Mother Suite leaves off, throwing caution to conventional music. The song, complete with background noises of Pink Floyd roadie Alan Stiles preparing and eating his breakfast, is broken into three musical parts. The music itself is quite good, but a tad underwhelming. The last part of the song, titled "Morning Glory" is the strongest part of the song, and brings the album to a strong close.
Overall, one cannot fully understand a musical act until they expose themselves to the humble beginnings. Pink Floyd rose meteorically to their stardom... they once found themselves trying new things, and creating a formula for success. It's important, especially in the Floyd's case, not to ignore the importance of the first few albums.
Atom Heart Mother maybe chided as the worst Pink Floyd album by a few. But it's not. It's not their best either. It's one of my favorite, and one of their most important albums, as it really got the ball rolling in their evolution from psychedelic to progressive themes of rock.
A Good Pre- Dark side Listen.......2007-03-18
Itis a must for the budding PF fan. Waters inluences give us a hint of textures he can only provide and Gilmore seems to be at ease with his new surroundings .....Buy it , you wont regret it, man.
Atom Heart Mother is both typical and atypical Floyd..........2007-03-14

"Vision--The Music of Hildegard von Bingen"? Make that "Hildegard--the Dance Remix." (Yes, it has been used on the dance floor of at least one New York City nightclub.) What else can you call it when Richard Souther takes the stark, ecstatic plainchant of the 12th-century abbess and adds heavily produced electronic trance-and-dance tracks? Souther's additions aren't bad in themselves--they are a bit New Age-y, yet danceable in a druggy 3:00-a.m. kind of way--but slather them over Hildegard's spare, intense chant melodies and the effect is perverse, if not just silly. Don't blame poor Emily van Evera--she is a fine interpreter of Hildegard, and EMI simply asked her to record some unaccompanied solo tracks of the abbess's music and send in the tapes; she had no idea what was going to be done with them until this disc came out with her name on it. This shows up in the final product: the gently fluid pulse van Evera applied to Hildegard's music (which would make perfect sense in the a cappella performance she thought she was giving) feels completely disconnected from the rigid rhythms inherent in Souther's electronic accompaniment. Now, there are a number of customer reviews, below, from listeners who like this title a great deal--have a look at them, check out the sound clips, and by all means get this title if you're interested. But, if you're curious about Hildegard, go to the recording that made her famous eight centuries after her death: A Feather on the Breath of God. --Matthew WestphalCustomer Reviews:

"Every Element Has A Sound" ~ Heavenly Visions Of A Medieval Mystic.......2006-01-29
Similiar yet subtly different from the lofty, remote gregorian chants sung in the monastery, the music of Hildegard is much more accessible. Her experience of the 'Divine Mysteries' is conveyed in more emotional and earthy tones, thus linking the higher aspirations of the soul with the passionate nature of the human heart.
'Vision' was performed and recorded within the stone walls of St. Andrew's Church in Toddington, England, an almost perfect location to capture the medieval atmosphere of Hildegard's compositions. The female voices involved in this project are a sharp and welcome contrast to the all male gregorian choirs most of us are more familiar with.
Truly a mystical musical experience has been captured on these 17 exquiste tracks. For the spiritual seeker in all of us!

The voice of the soul.......2006-01-01
Divinely Joyous.......2005-09-28
For me it is actually very refreshing to listen to songs in language that I don't understand at all- and a nice break from the usual Latin, German, and my native ones- but at the same time, knowing that they are sung by someone who understands the texts and has a spiritual connection to them is a nice bonus. (And if you want to explore the meaning behind the sounds, the original Armenian texts and translations are included in the CD booklet...) It's also a new musical experience to my ears- I am used to certain melismatic forms of Indian music, and Soeur Marie Keyrouz records of Byzantine chants, yet this music still sounds quite exotic to me. And, at all times, very beautiful.
Like Gregorian chant in its pure form, it would get somewhat monotonous, if it wasn't for Bayrakdarian's heartfelt delivery. I find that the opening song is my favourite and often end up listening to it over and over again, but the whole album is very addictive. Not all the songs have the same joyous rapture feel- some are melancholy tinged, some are both at the same time. You need to listen to this music to appreciate its strange charms. It's beautiful and deeply spiritual, all in one. It is certainly Sacred Joy for my ears.
Breathtaking!!!.......2002-08-14
The disk derives from a concert that took place in Toronto in September, 2001 commemorating 1700 years of Christianity in Armenia. It consists of 18 pieces of liturgical music. In some Bayrakdarian sings a capella, but in most she is supported by a chamber orchestra. One is aware that this is not western music, but the modes in which it is written are just unusual enough to European ears to be a little exotic while remaining entirely accessible. It's not quite melodic, but not quite chant either. Bayrakdarian's melismas are always sensitive and subtle. The whole effect is soaring, haunting, ethereal, transporting, utterly wonderful.
This is a desert island disk for sure.

Thematically, director Robert Altman's career sometimes seems an endless series of left turns into the unexpected; the one constant has been a rich and rewarding attention to the intricacies of character development and interaction. Composer Patrick Doyle underscores Gosford Park's Merchant-Ivory/Agatha Christie/Altman-wit fusion and '30s British upper-class setting with a score that's period spot-on, character-rich, and often sadly evocative. Doyle's restraint is masterful, often leaning on piano, accordion, and small string arrangements that emphasize the characters' intimacies and the film's drawing room settings. Key to the story are a handful of prewar songs by Ivor Novello (who's also a character in the film), ranging from the sprightly humor of "And Her Mother Came Too" and "What a Duke Should Be" to the romantic schmaltz of "I Can Give You the Starlight" and "Why Isn't It You?" The latter is performed here at the piano (and, remarkably, live before the cameras) by Jeremy Northam. Leavened by a small jazz ensemble and a few darkly ominous cues, Doyle's score is an understated gem. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Gosford Park Sound Track.......2007-03-30
Better than the movie.......2004-12-08
Why is this music so compelling and winning?
First, it is fun to discover the marvellous talent of Ivor Norvello. His music is half of the charm of the soundtrack. Some songs are funny ("Her mother came too"), some beautiful ("I can give you the starlight") and some poignant ("The land of might have been"). I had not encountered Norvello before this film. Jeremy Northam's perfect delivery of Norvello's songs would not leave me after I'd seen the film. Days later, I found the songs had taken up residence in the back of my head, insisting that I go back to the soundtrack to make them a permanent part of my musical life.
Second, there is the charm of the orchestral music composed by Patrick Doyle. Sometimes people wonder "why aren't they writing beautiful classical music any more?" Well, they are. It goes into soundtracks, however, rather than being commissioned by orchestras. The test for the quality of Doyle's compositions is that you don't need to refer to the film to appreciate this music. It simply charms and intrigues us with its own merits.
My third reason for loving this CD is too personal to mention here.
I give this CD my highest personal recommendation.
I don't mind the repeating themes, but the CD is too short!.......2004-06-08
However, Mr. Doyle's music portrays the lethargy of the snobby Upstairs very well to the contrast of the relative energy of Novello's songs, which the Downstairs servants enjoy, but the Upstairs people can't stand.
My dislikes about the CD include the female singer who can't really sing and the length of the CD. Some of these cues are only about a minute long. WHY pay so much money for such a short CD??? Why not add more music??
Overall though, if you liked either Doyle's music or Novello's songs (hopefully the listener will like both), it's a CD worth getting.
Excellent Mix.......2003-04-23
Sometimes period music, sometimes mystery music, sometime personal music. Jeremy Northam's songs are simply delicious and I love hearing them.
I liken the style (not type) of mix to You've Got Mail.
Heaps of fun and lovely to listen to.
One the best soundtracks out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-03-06

Carnie Wilson won't be the first singer-turned-mother to climb aboard the lullaby train in search of new career scenery, but at least she comes by the urge honestly. Listen closely to any Wilson Phillips disc and it's clear hers is a voice that would make any recruiter's short list for new baby whisperers: it's soothing, it's rich, and it's tender. It's also plainly in a place where pleasing budding musical senses has become pretty important. "Lola Sofia," a love song for Wilson's 1-year-old, trickles off the disc like maternal tears of joy, and so do a couple of other originals--"When You Dream," co-written by Wilson and lucky little Lola Sofia's father, and "With the Sun," written by sister Wendy. But the real feast for tots on a scoot toward the Sandman (as well as their Beach Boys-loving parents and grandparents) arrives in the form of covers. "You Are So Beautiful," a duet with father Brian Wilson, is shot through with the senior Wilson's signature sun-warmed quality, and "Heaven," written by Carl Wilson, captures more of the well-woven, brightly lit family sensibility. Good vibrations sometimes come packaged in lullaby form, too. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description
Carnie Wilson, daughter of legendary Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson, has a varied career as a singer, songwriter, actress, author, and TV talk show host. As a member of Wilson Phillips she enjoyed unparalleled debut album success, selling ten million copies with three number one hit singles including the song "Hold On." The group's second album achieved international multi-platinum success selling three million albums. One year after the birth of her daughter, Lola Sofia, Carnie is releasing her first ever solo album "A Mother's Gift: Lullabies From The Heart." The album is a collection of traditional and new songs, all inspired by Carnie's recent journey into motherhood. The 12-track CD features such classics as "Over the Rainbow," "What A Wonderful World," and "You Are So Beautiful," a moving duet with her father Brian Wilson. Additionally there is a cover of the song "Heaven" by her late uncle Carl Wilson. New tracks include "When You Dream" written by Carnie and her husband Rob Bonfiglio and "With the Sun" written by her sister Wendy. Carnie also recorded a new arrangement of the Elvis Presley classic "Love Me Tender" interpreted as a lullaby.
