About the Artist
Antaeus, born and reared in Greece, emigrated to the United States at 17 and in 1986 graduated from California State University, Dominguez Hills, with a Bachelor of Science in Music Industry.

During the 1992 Winter Music Conference, Antaeus received the "Best Disk-Jockey in Los Angeles" award. That year he also became a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the governing body for the GRAMMY awards.

Since 1989 he has been involved in recording, remixing or production for a diverse selection of artists such as Young M.C., Falco, Lonnie Gordon, Def Jef, Malcolm McLaren, Yanni, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Herbert Gronemayer and Earth Wind and Fire. Antaeus remixes for The Boys and the Rolling Stones have respectively earned him platinum and multi-platinum plaques. His club-oriented projects - under the names Jeek!, Aar and Beat Pulse Mecca - were released by Tribal/IRS and ZOO/RCA records.

In the mid-90’s Antaeus returned to Greece. Influenced by ancient Greek and Byzantine Music, he worked on a personal album titled "Byzantine Meditation". The chill-out soundscape that he created fuses voices, traditional instruments, electronica, hip-hop and drum ‘n’ bass. "Byzantine Meditation" was released in Greece in 1997 and it remained top-5 on the official Greek sales chart for several months. Over the next two years it successfully sold in many territories around the world. It has been variously described as "chill out music", "intoxicating sound scenery", and "music for body and soul".

In 2000 Antaeus released "World Prayer", his second album. A sound, resembling the JV-1080 dulcimer sound Antaeus used in several tracks of "Byzantine Meditation", was incorporated by Roland, one of the world’s largest synthesizer manufacturers, into its XV-5080 synth module. The sound was appropriately called "Byzantine".

Album Description

Byzantine Meditation is the highly acclaimed contemporary world music album by Antaeus. It has been variously described as "chill out music", "intoxicating sound scenery", and "music for body and soul".

Fans of ENIGMA, ENYA and ART OF NOISE will definitely appreciate Antaeus' fusion of wordless vocalization, live instruments, and electronic wizardry. His mélange of old and new, east and west, and melody and rhythm adds color and space to music.

The first single of "Byzantine Meditation" is the title track, four versions of which are available on the album.

I love Antaeus' zero4 and Byzantine Meditation CDs. That's chill electronica / world fusion at its best. I was looking for more Antaeus albums to buy and came across a death metal / satanist rock band using the same name. Their albums De Principii Evangelicum, Blood Libels, and Cut Your Flesh and Worship Satan are not from the guy who did zero4 and Byzantine Meditation. Different artist, different music. It's kind of like good vs. evil.

I was going to buy the album Zero4 and got drifted to this album, I bought both and I have been listening to it over and over again. Very beautiful music, vary calming and rythmic. If I had paid twice as much for these albums I would still think they were well worth it.

Disc One Heaven, Disc Two Too Awful.......2002-07-05

Like I said, Disc one is magic alla Keyrouz, the Eastern chants beguiling and meditative and deeply spiritual, but the Western Classical items on the second disc are too painful to listen to. At this price, getting the whole set just for the first disc, did not make sense. There are other wonderful single Keyrouz discs already.
