About the Artist
After studying Classical Harp at The Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California, Jan pursued studies at the renowned Indiana University School of Music with Susann McDonald and California State University with Carrol McLaughlin. After clinching her first post-college gig at The Tropicana Casino in Las Vegas, she was told by patrons that she should play something with a "beat".Dismayed at not knowing how to groove on the harp, Jan enlisted in intensive jazz studies with jazz and pop harpist, Dr. Carrol McLaughlin. She put her studies to the test by showing up at jam sessions with her harp in tow, much to the surprise of the other intrumentalists. Once confidence came, Jan took her harp and a rhythm section on cruise ships to get a little experience under her belt. Listeners were delighted! Motherhood soon came and Jan disappeared from the music scene to raise her two beautiful children, bake bread, and become a domestic goddess. When the kids were grown! , she hit the recording studio and the result was "Anything But Ordinary" Enjoy!

Review of Americans in London.......2006-03-09

The recording is excellent and replaces my old 78 recordings which I transferred to tape some years ago. But they have that horrible hissing noise which spoils my enjoyment of them.
It is to be observed that although the cast is American, the orchestras and conductors are British (except for Debroy Sommers). I know qite a bot about Deboy Sommers and Lew Stone, but can anyone fill me in about Reginald Burston?
The CD is great. Thank you to Amazon for this.

Absolutely Beautiful and Totally Unique!.......2005-12-07

I would never normally buy a "harp" album, or "jazz harp" for that matter, but I heard this music playing in a local boutique and was completely taken! This is way more than your typical harp music. The music is infectious and utterly lovely. There is definitely a beautiful rhythm to Jan's style. This album is a staple at our house for dinner parties (we always get compliments on this music), captivating crying babies and just hanging out and relaxing. What a wonderful collection of work and how refreshing! I highly recommend this album!
