Founded by Havana-born Bassist and Vocalist Ignacio Piniero in 1927, Septeto Nacional De Ignacio Piniero have Played an Important Role in Cuba's Music for More Than Seven Decades. Pioneers of Son, a Rhythmic Blend of African and Cuban Music that Evolved Into Salsa, the Mambo, and Latin Jazz, the Group was the First Son Band to Incorporate Trumpet as a Lead Instrument. Attracting Global Recognition with their Performance at the World Exposition in Seville in 1928, Septeto Nacional De Ignacio Piniero Were, Reportedly, the First Band to Mention "Salsa" in a Song, "Echale Salsita," Recorded in 1933. The Song, Composed by Piniero, was Adapted by George Gershwin for the Opening Theme of his "Cuban Overture." Since Piniero's Death in 1968, Following 41 Years at the Band's Helm, Septeto Nacional De Ignacio Piniero Has Been Directed by a Series of Leaders.

When the Spanish Vocalist Died in an Automobile Accident in 1973, the World Lost One of Its Greatest Romantic Balladeers. Bravo Had Been Attracting Acclaim Since 1959. His First Single, "Como Todos" Composed by Manuel Alejandro, was a Major Hit in Spain. Bravo Reached his Apex in 1972. Shortly after Marrying Vocalist Maria Amparo, He Represented Spain with a Crowd-pleasing Set at the Festival De Rio De Janeiro. This Double CD Set Compiles his Classics for his 50 Year Anniversary.

STICK WITH NINO'S ORIGINALS.......2006-02-05

A horrible diservice to the prodigious talents of a first-class singer...as others have said, if you want to truly hear Nino Bravo, hunt around for his out-of-print original Lps on CD or better yet get the excellent 3cd set LA OBRA COMPLETA DE NINO BRAVO...

Yes, there are original numbers here by Nino but you can find all of them in the above-referenced CD

The duets here are horrible...taking Nino's original recordings and remixing them (badly) and "arificially adding" the voices of his duet partners (who do not hold a candle to Nino's incredible voice) was an abyssmal concept and a sorry attempt to cash in on Nino's legacy...avoid at all costs !

LOS DUETOS, HORRIBLES... EL RESTO EXCELENTE........2004-07-31

Cómo es posible que un músico de la talla de Juan Carlos Calderón pueda arruinar excelentes canciones ? Cómo es posible que hasta lo haga "desafinar" a Nino Bravo? Estos duetos incluidos son de los peores que he escuchado en mi vida. Resulta increible y hasta doloroso escuchar que una voz como la de Paloma San Basilio, que en sus discos solistas es indudablemente una muy buena cantante, literalmente no tenga nada que hacer frente a Nino Bravo. Del resto, mejor ni hablar.
El único material que vale la pena son las versiones originales.
Por eso, recomiendo adquirir "La obra completa de Nino Bravo" y prescindir de este engendro. Algo mejor que este resulta "Duetos" volumen 2, otro doble compacto que todavia no está ofrecido en Amazon, y que incluye otros ocho duetos, incluyendo a Raphael y Sandra Morey entre otros. Pero, nuevamente es tan solo una muy leve mejoría, y su "calificación" no sería demasiado distinta a este disco, tal vez dos estrellas y punto. Los duetos no hacen otra cosa que evidenciar que va a ser muy difícil encontrar alguien que iguale o se parezca al increible registro vocal de Nino Bravo.

Magnificent compilation and collaboration with others!.......2001-01-14

What a pleasure listening to this one! I have owned throughout the years many of Nino's "greatest hits" including a Polydor CD re-do in 1989 when I lived in Europe (bought at EL Corte Ingles in Barcelona.) Nino was Spains's answer to Tom Jones in 1969-1970 when he hit big. We lost him in a most unfortunate motor vehicle accident in 1973, in the pinnacle of his career and while trying to promote the career of other young artists, on his way from Valencia to Madrid motorway (interstate).

He had a natural powerful tenor type voice, heard clearly without a microphone in a live concert. His ballads and "social protest" songs, in vogue at the time, are timeless. This offering is absolutely remastered with clear optimization of the analogue tapes, and especially his voice. The duets included herein are with top Popular acts of Spain, conducted by the same genius that propelled Nino, Mocedades and many others: Juan Carlos Calderon. This I consider his definitive collection highly reccommended!

There are better Munequitos de Matanzas CD's out there.......2006-01-31

I love Munequitos de Matanzas but I don't think this CD is a very good representation of how good they are and what they can do. If you are interested in them I would check out one of their other CD's and skip this one. Love the group, just not this disc.
