4 out of 5 stars Great Anime Music.......2007-07-16

I was more impressed with this CD than I thought I would be. Its a very good soundtrack that follows GITS: SAC's first season very well. Yoko Kanno did an excellent job arranging the music on this CD. Some of it is great to get your blood pumping. Some of my favorite songs on the CD include cameo's by Origa.

5 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2007-03-17

I bought this CD, becouse i would like to hear the OST soundtrack, and i think it was a good option. very good shipping and fast deliver...

1 out of 5 stars THE SONGS ARE GOOD BUT NOT ON THIS UNCLEAR CD !.......2007-01-25

IT COULD BE A BOOTLEG IT WAS UN-CLEAR SOUNDING BUT I GOT IT HERE SO BE CAREFUL !

3 out of 5 stars I like the album starting from Inner Universe..........2007-01-07

I bought this album for track 11 "Inner Universe"
(which is the track from the opening sequence of the tv show),
and I would buy the album for this one track alone.

As for the rest of the album, I really wanted to like it but
the only songs I found that were good enough to stand on their own
are track 11 "Inner Universe" and track 18 "Rise [TV Size]".

If you want some albums where you can listen to the
entire album (without editing out more than half the album)
I would recommend "Cowboy Bebop" and "Cowboy Bebop: Blue";
they are both much better than this album.

3 out of 5 stars Hmmm..........2007-01-06

Well, the second half of this CD is great. From "Inner Universe" on. Maybe it's not quite half. "Beauty is Within Us" is a particularly moving track. Especially when you listen closely or read the lyrics.

Album Description

Paprika is a Japanese animated film, based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's 1993 novel about a female detective who investigates criminal cases by entering the dreams of her subjects. The film was directed by Satoshi Kon, animated by Madhouse Studios and will be released by Sony Pictures Classics on May 25, 2007. The original score was composed by Susumu Hirasawa who also composed the soundtrack for Kon's award-winning film, Millennium Actress, and equally-lauded television series, "Paranoia Agent."

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Ebullient and fun..........2007-07-27

This album is definitely not like anything I've heard before. It's both trippy and intense, sliding easily from one epic piece to the next, leading the listener through a veritable whirlwind of overpowering excitement. It's a fun listen, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to be transported to another world.

4 out of 5 stars Great music..Greater movie.......2007-07-05

If you saw the movie, you will have to buy this soundtrack. If you havent seen the movie, go see it and THEN buy the soundtrack.
Paprika was a visual and auditory carnaval.. Go take the ride.

5 out of 5 stars A fantastic film score.......2007-06-14

I had the immense pleasure of seeing the anime film "Paprika" this past weekend. The animation was visual eye candy with its vibrant colors and original designs. The storyline kept me riveted for all 90 minutes of the film. My favorite aspect of the film though has to be Susumu Hirasawa's film score. I was immediately taken with the music. The style of music is all over the place on this short 43 minute long cd. One minute the music has a catchy techno/pop beat and the next a loud, bombastic marching band sound. My favorite songs on the soundtrack is easily "Parade" (both versions), "Mediational Field", and "The Girl in Byakkoya" by White Tiger Field. This is my first time I have heard of Susumu Hirasawa's work and I must say I loved what I heard. His work is nothing I have ever heard before on any given soundtrack. It is so schizophrenic with its varied sounds yet it works. This is a great souvenir to own after seeing the film (which I absolutely loved).

5 out of 5 stars 5000 mph.......2007-06-06

I haven't seen the film yet, but I'm loving this soundtrack you know? Highly recommended. If you're familiar with Susumu Hirasawa's music on "Millenium Actress" and "Paranoia Agent" you will more than likely enjoy this as well. The most notable tracks are "A Drop Filled with Memories", "Mediational Field" which will urge you to drive 5,000 miles per hour and "Chaser". A well-rounded anime soundtrack that should be HEARD by EVERYONE!

5 out of 5 stars FF:Advent Children DVD.......2007-01-03

Awesome movie! A must see for any FF fan!
::WARNING-POSSIBLE SPOILER::
But as a particular Aeris/Aerith lover, don't hope for any truth to those ressurection rumours floating around. Just like the game itself (which has been proved to be incomplete and had originally been programed to accomodate the resurrection), its bogus. But she still gets some interesting screen time. Evidently, Tifa's CGI character looks almost exactly like her English voice actress, Rachel Leigh Cook!

5 out of 5 stars FFVII - Nobuo Uematsu THE BEST.......2006-12-17

Nobuo Uematsu is a composer I wish everyone could listen to. FFVII AC soundtrack is just incredible as everyones posted. Fans of FFVII will be taken back in time, to both the game and movie. Nonfans too can appreciate the music!

Nobuo just is a talented composer who can create any type of music fantastically, this track ranges from classical, gospel, hard rock, techno, operatic, just... he does any genre with ease.

This music and FFVII itself has a special place for me, and the music was at the forefront to make the story, characters and experience be unforgettable. Of course playing the game itself I am more emotionally attached to the music and even movie... All the characters themes, everything is here. Mostly from the game, there are original stuff here tho.

WORTH MENTIONG personally... (ending in my favorite on 2nd CD, "Cloud Smiles"

FIRST CD -

2. Promised Land - just great, gospel like, always inspiring and solemn at the same time.

3. Beyond the Wasteland - watch your house rumble! The bass beats during the first half are great. Then it turns into a great action set, gypsie like driving song, always fun to listen to!

4. (piano themes) Aerith's, Tifas... because beautifully done on piano, always takes me back to game. Just wonderful pieces by themselves, I mean Aerith, come on! =)

5.) Battle in Forgotten City - such a percussive, bass driven piece with rock and choir and Herman like violins. I can play this one over and over so fun and great.

2nd CD -

Divinity I - alwyas gives me shivers. Classic Nobuo deep choirical, operatic cinematic classical orchestral action!

Divinity II - Like I. But inpsiring as cloud flies high to save the day... and then Aerith's theme at the peak, just always gets me.

MY FAVORITE - CLOUD SMILES - This purely because it effects me emotionally everytime, takes me back to game, and then end of AC... Aerith such a big thing, just seeing how it ends now, makes you happy, and you feel exactly what Cloud does as she leaves to the music.

ANYWAYS... Long rant but just one of those things, as a fan of anything, the music makes it all come alive for ya! Anything that sends you back in time, effects you on an emotional level is worth raving about!

Nobuo Uematsu - as Barret would say, "You are the man!"

5 out of 5 stars amazing music!!.......2006-08-06

i LOVE this cd very very much. the piano is amazing and the "rockish songs" are awsome...!!!! the piano songs are very peaceful. If u love the movie, then i know u will love this. oh my gosh !!! get this cd now! (i am listening to it now!!!!!!!!!)

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Anime Music!.......2007-07-16

I simply love the beats offered on this CD. The music is very mellow and is great as ambiance. Some of the tracks are upbeat and fast-paced. These tracks would work well as background music to home movies or shorts.

The music is straight from the anime and when you listen to it, it feels like you are in the anime. This is a great soundtrack and has some memorable music. Its a must have for anime, Samurai Champloo and techno fans.

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy love it!.......2007-03-02

I love the Samurai type music, absolutly love it, i am a beat freak as they call it and this is the best yet!

3 out of 5 stars Great with the show - not so great on its own.......2006-11-06

Most of the tracks on this CD make pretty pointless listening outside of the context of the actual show. The songs that play over the opening and ending credits ("Battlecry" and "Song of the Seasons" respectively) are pretty catchy, and that's why I bought the CD, but the rest of the tracks feel like filler drum loops in comparison.

4 out of 5 stars Great set list........2006-08-21

I've been a fan of Samurai Champloo for a while now, so I kinda knew what to expect from the soundtrack. It's great to hear the full length songs, when on the show, you only get a 10- 15 sec. snippet. I do live sound in a Jazz club, and play the soundtrack during set breaks, and all the time people are asking me what I'm playing. If you like "chill out" or downtempo I would highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars The good musics to the good anime.......2006-07-13

Well, what else! If you like Samurai Champloo on TV, it's also thx to the music! And when you'll listen to the soundtrack, you'll remember the fun to have seen SC, and it's really nice to remember...

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Music, proves why Yoko Kanno is on top of her league........2006-06-27

The music is mixture from blues, folk, classical and rock. It beautifully captures the essence of the show, and good music to listen to regardless whether you liked or watched the show. Definantly worth checking out.

5 out of 5 stars What Stray Wolf/Wolf Rider has to say.......2006-04-13

Stray- the coolest song EVER- exept for True Light- but that's another story. Stray Dominates my world. Steve Conte REALLY outdid himself! A wonderful song for a wonderfull anime. To bad they only put that song on this CD! Thay should put it on every one.

5 out of 5 stars Great Music for a Great Series.......2006-03-30

The music captures the moods of the series. I only wish the Japanese versions of the songs were on the CD as well.

5 out of 5 stars THe Perfect Partner to an Excellent Anime.......2006-02-28

Wolf's Rain was a series of intense imagery, dramatic characterizations, and stark action sequences that lead to one inevitable goal: one of the best anime ever. Supplying a lot of the emotions in each of these moments is an excellent soundtrack, done by the well-known Yoko Kanno, who worked on Cowboy Bebop, Visions of Escaflowne, and GitS: Stand Alone Complex's soundtracks. It's quite clear that without the background music provided, this series would not have been the same.

This CD provides most of the sounds and songs heard in the anime. What's odd about this soundtrack is that a majority of the songs are of the same genre, that being folk jazz (what's that? well, it's folk music with the tones and beats of jazz). This in no way takes from the soundtrack, and in truth it was kind of refreshing to find a soundtrack for an anime where all of the tracks were on the same page. Of the twenty-one tracks, eight of them are vocalized, and these tracks were translated for an American audience. Some may find this disconcerting, as the beauty of anime music usually comes in the Japanese vocals. But I don't think it was that bad in this case, since the new voices were excellent.

Though all of the tracks are great (and I do mean great), some of the tracks had a touch of excellence in them:

Track 01: Stray: Worth a listen simply because it was omitted from the TV version.

Track 02: Requiem: An emotional instrumental sound played with a piano.

Track 09: Strangers: A trumpet sound begins this song, and then a beat slowly works in followed by some excellent vocals.

Track 11: Tip Toe Waltz: It sounds just like the title. It's the odd-ball track of this album, and is fun to listen to.

Track 13: Could You Bite the Hand?: A guitar sound with some quick vocals sung by the same man who did the opening.

Track 19: Run, Wolf Warrior, Run: It sounds like something produced in the late 70s. It's a beautifully sung song.

Track 20: Gravity: The final vocalized track is another emotional song sung to a piano background.

Once again, I definitely think all the songs on this CD are worth a listen, and I wouldn't recommend skipping any in order to get to the ones above. Like Cowboy Bebop's soundtrack, without this soundtrack, Wolf's Rain wouldn't have been the same. If you have Wolf's Rain and loved the music, get this, or if you saw Wolf's Rain on TV and enjoyed it, then get the Limited Complete Collection, which comes packed with this CD and all the episodes.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful soul-reaching music.......2006-01-07

Yoko Kanno is a brilliant composer. Her work is legendary in the anime scene, her name for music in a series is like a stamp of approval. Sounds strange, but it is true.

Like in Cowboy Bebop, the music makes you feel strong emotions while watching the show and again when you listen to it alone. The vocalists she works with are all very talented and their specific voices work well in different ways. Steve Conte's singing in the opening is very raw and passionate and the music is steady and strong.

There are slow songs with soft, lilting vocals where we must feel emotions gently tugging at us. Then there are the fast and frantic songs for the action-filled and stressful times.

This OST is a complete package of all the different styles and feelings of the series, and it's great for just a listen alone too.

5 out of 5 stars Ichiban!.......2006-07-27

I was able to get the BLEACH OST (Original SoundTrack) several months ago and despite the fact that it is background music with only 5 vocal tracks, I have been compelled to play it many times.

Ever since I saw the first episode of BLEACH, I was intrigued by the music and its great atmosphere, which fits the series very well. The first scene used the opener 'On The Precipice of Defeat.' If there's one song you must sample, it's this one. (Or maybe Creeping Shadows, or Destiny Awaits, or Never Meant to Belong, or...)

In this OST, a range of emotions is evident, from the mysterious opener & vocal 'Nothing Can Be Explained' by Mike Wyzgowski, to battle music like Blaze of the Shinigami, to the peaceful and pensive ending tracks. Each one has great instrumentation (e.g. Catch-22) and composition. Some of the electric guitar in there is awesome, as well. The whole OST is a very pleasing to the ear.

I highly recommend this to anyone who has also been intrigued by the music of BLEACH. And, for those who read the manga, it's brilliant background music for when you read. ;3

5 out of 5 stars If You Like the Soundtrack of Bleach, You'll Love this CD!.......2005-11-07

This Original SoundTrack (a.k.a. OST) for Bleach is phenomenal! When my sister and I watched the first episode of a fan-subbed version of this anime (it's not licensed or available in the United States yet), we were immediately addicted to the series. This storyline was something neither of us had seen before. The music was compelling too. I wasn't surprised to find out the soundtrack was composed by Shiro Sagisu of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and "His and Her Circumstances" fame.

This CD has the BGM tracks from the series, (BGM=BackGround Music), and this is always a plus because some US anime soundtracks either have songs that never were played in the series, or leave out some songs, or never include the instrumental background tracks. These tracks are used often enough in the series that you can immediately recognize them all.

If you are a Bleach fan, especially of the anime, you'll love this CD. You could wait until this series is licensed in the United States before purchasing this CD; however, when I checked out how much it would cost here , I found that it cost just a little over $20 to get this CD--that's fantastic considering it's an import (super saver shipping is not available for it, though). To order it in other places, it could cost $30+! I highly recommend getting this CD!

Also, for a little extra info on Track list above: Track #2, "Asterisk" by Orange Range is the OST version, so it’s not the same as the TV opener (different arrangement and longer length) and track #25, "Thank You!!", is by HOME MADE Kazoku. These vocalists are two popular male Japanese bands and perfect picks for a Shonen title. "Asterisk" is the first season's Opening Theme and "Thank You!!" is the Closing Theme #2. Closing Theme #1 is "Life is Like a Boat" by Rie Fu (Track #23). Track #12, "Nothing Can be Explained" by Mike Wyzgowski (of London-based sextet Garlic) and #21, "Number One" by Hazel Fernandes are both completely in English. "Nothing Can be Explained" is an eerie song, which makes it perfect for a story about a Death God (a.k.a. Shinigami) who hunts evil spirits. It's usually played when Ichigo, the main character, is facing his inner demons (literally and figuratively). "Number One" sounds like soul music (excuse the pun) and is used mostly when Ichigo, the main character, reveals his extraordinary Shinigami powers and is about to kick some serious enemy tail(a clip of this song plays when he first became a Shinigami). Finally, Track #6, "Ditty for Daddy", is a BGM other reviewers say they hate. It's mostly used for the weird/funny scenes and has a cartoon/bluegrass sound to it, which may be why they dislike it. When I play this OST, I don't like to listen to this track every time, but it's not as horrible as some others have said, just annoying sometimes.

4 out of 5 stars I like a few of the songs.......2005-10-03

As a huge fan of bleach, I decided to get this cd while in Japan. (so I wouldn't have to pay so much for shipping).
I can say that the music is pretty good. A few of the songs are annoying (ditty for daddy) but the others are pretty good on their own. For those of you who would buy this only for the beginning and ending themes(like me), I would not reccomend it. The version of Asterisk (thats the 2nd song, but i can't spell it) is the tv edit, where you can find the full version of the songs from other sources (i think i saw a cd in japan with all of the themes on it).
Anyway, I like most of the songs, so I think it deserves a 4 out of 5 stars. If you're a huge bleach fan, you should get it.

Zelda: The Music.

INTRODUCTION:
Shigeru Miyamoto's Legend of Zelda series is one of the greatest game series ever made, no questions asked. With this action/adventure franchise, he took Nintendo to new heights - and continues to do so. Not surprisingly, for the music on this series, Miyamoto enlisted Koji Kondo, the same man he had used for his Super Mario musical scores. In Japan, many CDs of the games' music have been released.

OVERVIEW:
Zelda: The Music is a collection of music from the various Legend of Zelda games released over the years. It covers nearly twenty years worth of games. All recordings are the original Famicom/NES versions.

REVIEW:
I've been waiting for a CD like this for a long time. Unfortunately, the execution does leave a lot to be desired. Some games are overlooked entirely, others overemphasized and poorly represented. While a good collection, it could have been better. Let's break it down game by game.

-The Legend of Zelda (NES)
CONTENT:
2) Title BGM 1:40
3) Overworld BGM 0:46
4) Underground BGM 0:31
5) Death Mountain BGM 0:35
6) Game Over 0:22
7) Flute 0:04
8) Treasure Catch Fanfare 0:04
9) Triforce Catch Fanfare 0:09
10) Ganon's Appearance and Defeat Fanfare 0:05
11) Zelda Rescued Fanfare 0:08
12) Ending Theme 1:18
COMMENTS:
The first game in the series gets the emphasis it deserves and more. Pretty much every piece of music/sound from the game is represented in some shape or form on this CD.

-The Adventure of Link (NES)
CONTENT:
13) Title BGM 1:18
14) Overworld BGM 0:53
15) Battle BGM 0:33
16) Flute BGM 1 0:05
17) Village BGM 1:16
18) Indoors BGM 0:24
19) Flute BGM 2 0:05
20) Temple BGM 1:41
21) Boss 0:12
22) Temple Clear 0:06
23) Level Up 0:04
24) Game Over 0:05
25) Great Temple 0:47
26) Last Boss (Dark Link) 0:28
27) Fanfare 0:07
28) Princess Zelda 0:23
29) Ending 0:43
30) Title BGM 1:18
31) Battle BGM 0:41
COMMENTS:
Not only does the compilation give the listener most of the music from this NES classic, they also include music from the original Japanese version! It's awesome to be able to compare the different music between the two versions. Much like the first game in the series, this one gets solid emphasis on here.

A Link To The Past (Super Nintendo)
CONTENT:
32) Title 0:17
33) Opening Demo 1:16
34) Normal Overworld 0:51
35) Master Sword Demo 0:13
36) Alternate Overworld 1:09
COMMENTS:
Great game, absolutely HORRIBLE track selections. Yes, these pieces of music are excellent, no questions asked - the opening demo music is one of my all-time favorite Zelda tunes. But so much is MISSING! Where is the Dungeon music!? Where are all three Dark World themes? Fight music with Ganon? Ending music? Great game, but it deserves better emphasis than this! (NOTE: Some of these "omitted" tracks appear on the CD in the forms of the Four Swords versions, which I feel are inferior renditions.)

-Link's Awakening (Game Boy)
CONTENT:
NONE
COMMENTS:
NO tracks from this little gem. Nothing. Just because it was on the Game Boy doesn't give the compiler a right to ignore it! This game had some great music and I'm insulted to see nothing made the cut.

-Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64)
CONTENT:
37) Title 1:24
38) Hyrule Field Main Theme 5:01
39) Lon Lon Ranch 4:16
40) Lost Woods 0:41
41) Princess Zelda's Apperance 0:07
42) Princess Zelda's Theme 0:57
COMMENTS: Like A Link To The Past, great game with terrible track selections for this CD. WHY THE HELL DO WE GET A FIVE-MINUTE RENDITION OF THE LON LON RANCH MUSIC INSTEAD OF THE BOSS BATTLE MUSIC!? And while we're at it, how about the Dungeon music? Even if you buy this CD you'll want the separate Ocarina of Time soundtrack (Japanese version of course.)

-Majora's Mask (Nintendo 64)
CONTENT:
43) Title Demo 2:11
44) Termina Field 1:31
45) Ocarina "Song of Soaring" 0:07
46) Mayor's House Council Room 0:50
47) Mid Boss Battle 1:10
48) Cremia's Wagon 0:44
49) Majora's Mask to the Moon 0:31
50) Staff Roll 6:21
COMMENTS:
Read what I wrote for A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. Too much good stuff missing. The "Dungeon Exterior" themes I greatly missed.

Oracle of Ages (Game Boy Color)
CONTENT:
NONE
COMMENTS:
It's the Link's Awakening thing all over again. Great game with no emphasis here. Blasphemy, I say!

Oracle of Seasons (Game Boy Color)
CONTENT:
NONE
COMMENTS:
Ditto.

Wind Waker (GameCube)
-CONTENT:
51) Title 1:07
52) Granny 1:41
53) Departure 0:52
54) Great Ocean 2:40
55) Master Sword Get 0:11
56) Hero of the Wind 1:26
57) Ending 1:06
COMMENTS: Not one of my favorite Zelda games, but they did manage to get some of the best music from it on here. No real complaints.

-Four Swords (Nintendo GameCube)
CONTENT:
58) Field BGM 1:08
59) Dungeon BGM 1:10
60) Overworld BGM 1:06
61) Hyrule Castle BGM 1:37
62) Village of the Blue Maiden (Before the Puzzle Solving) 1:20
63) Village of the Blue Maiden (After the Puzzle Solving) 1:14
64) Sky BGM 1:14
65) Temple BGM 1:26
66) Wind Palace BGM 0:40
67) Clear Fanfare 0:11
68) Shadow Link Battle BGM 1:00
69) Boss Battle BGM 1:01
COMMENTS:
Good game but TOO MANY TRACKS! This was space that should have been used to emphasize music missing from earlier games in the series.

-Misc. Tracks
CONTENT:
1) Famicom disc system theme
70) The Legend of Zelda Theme Melody 8:56
COMMENTS:
TOTALLY NOT NECESSARY. The Famicom disc system theme was the tune that played when you started up the Famicom (Japanese NES.) It's NOT UNIQUE TO THE ZELDA SERIES, and therefore has no place here. The theme medley, while cool, is a waste of space that could have been better filled with the omitted tracks I mentioned before.

OTHER:
One thing I should mention is that many of these tracks were made VERY SHORT, so that they could all be crammed onto the disc. As such, many tracks are only about a minute long. Also, there are no tracks from Twilight Princess since this CD predates it.

OVERALL:
If you want a "Best of Zelda" CD don't hesitate to pick this up. Just acknowledge the fact that it has flaws beforehand. If you're more interested in a particular game, get the individual soundtrack (if it's for a newer Zelda game, most likely one exists.)

EDITION NOTES:
You can't get this CD in America. You'll either have to import it or go someplace where you can get import CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent way to remember Zelda.......2005-12-26

Got this as a gift and I find myself listening to it remembering all the great hits I played.

The CD is good, and I doubt you will regret buying it. The Tracks are listed in a review above, and I was only slightly disappointed that the Ocarina of Time songs are not included with the CD. Never the less, I enjoy it.

This CD will be appreciated by any Zelda fan with or without them though.

3 out of 5 stars Nostalgic.... but nothing special.......2005-03-28

This CD basically has the exact music from the game NOT enhanced whatsoever. There does seem to be one "new" track at the end which is a pretty cool remix. This is good if you want the original sounding songs because they basically just recorded it straight off the games. It includes music from Legend of Zelda I, II, and III, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Wind Waker.

5 out of 5 stars Very Nice.......2005-02-14

I loved the sound it's like they took the sound and really enchanced it. It was so.......beautiful.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Dark, Haunting, and Amazing.......2007-04-03

I am pretty new to the world of Hellsing, I have bought the anime and have watched it through several times. The show was great, I really loved it, but what really made the show so cool for me was the music, it was kinda dark, but went great with all the action. I've since purchased this CD and listened to it, and I must say that it is amazing, this soundtrack brings out the best of Hellsing. This soundtrack is great because there's plenty of music, some kinda slow and sad, some more fast paced and leaves you bobbing your head to the beats of the music. This has to be one of my absolute favorite soundtracks ever.

Not all of the tracks have lyrics to them, most of the songs are just music, and the tracks that actually have lyrics, well the lyrics kinda take a backseat to the actual music. Most music, the lyrics are right out there with the music in the background, the songs with lyrics are just the opposite, you can hear lyrics in the background and can't really make out what they're saying, it's kind of like a babbling to it, but where you think that it hurts the songs, it actually makes it sound cooler, almost like you're watching the show.

Even after listening to the entire soundtrack, I can still hear the songs, I mean they just stick with you. Probably one of the most addicting songs on the CD has to be the first song which is also the opening song to the show. Another great song has to be Track 3, Musical Play Smiling Rebellious Flower. The end is so cool with the, well I don't know what it's called, I call it the "Death March" with the Church Bells, they usually played it in the old Looney Tunes cartoons when you thought someone died or something sad happened.

Anyway, this is a great soundtrack, if you loved the show you will definetly love this soundtrack because it is so cool and so awesome and will leave you wanting to listen to it over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars love it all!.......2006-10-20

i purchased this cd over 7 months ago and i still love it. the music is butiufly executed and fits well with the series i own alot of anime ost's and i recomend this one!

4 out of 5 stars Impure Souls of the Living Dead Shall be Banished- With Style.......2006-07-26

I'll start off by saying that this isn't a CD for everyone. But then, if you're looking up this page it's probably because you've seen the anime and was hooked, like I was, by the poignant background music.

The sound produced for the Hellsing anime is unlike any I've ever heard before. It's a seamless mashing together of cool, dark blues and jazz that would seem out of place with its sometimes cheerful horn play but manages instead to seem mockingly sarcastic- a splash of musically morbid humor that allows the sound to fit in with the gritty atmosphere while also adding an element of playfulness that lightens the otherwise heavy ambience. Also accomplishing this affect is the addition of a few fun, upbeat grungy rock tracks such as 'When you start the War, fight with arrows spears and swords!'

Added to the mix are energetic rock'n'roll compositions such as 'Fool cross over Nirvana -Grudge Prohibited-' and the thick Gothic edge of Dracula-esque horror movie themes and church organs. Ethereal synth, distorted vocals, and quiet, bass guitar-heavy pieces also get thrown into the blender and to top off the tasty combination Yusushi Ishii also tosses in some seemingly random bits of sound, things like dramatic audio that sounds as if its been ripped from very old black and white movies, complete with an in-and-out fading effect and crackling static noise that gives you the impression of something old and mournfully decaying. These are the kind of tracks that, when listened to alone in the dark on a quiet night can easily best most horror movies in creepiness factor. There's no denying the atmospheres created, be they black and monstrous, or wickedly cool and smooth via tracks like 'World Without Logos'.

The presentation of this CD is top notch as well. Colored in vibrant, if forboding red and blacks the booklet features eye-catching character 'introductions' as well as English credits and lyrics for some of the songs- although, given the giberish that comprises some of these lyrics you might not care to read them at all.

I would like to have given this CD five stars. The music certainly warrants it in my opinion. The one thing exstinguishing that fifth star is a fault that lies with Geneon. Track number 11 'Bodhisattva of Cathedral -featuring Tatsuo Tabei-' was cut in half. This track that begins with a somber, haunting aura dies off for a brief moment before exploding again with ominous guitar that leads into an up-tempo and almost teasingly playful finale. On this CD, however, the song ends after the mellow introduction. I find this highly dissapointing as track eleven is one of my favorites and, having heard it in its entirety it sound woefully incomplete on this soundtrack. While I suppose this could be a defect of the individual copy I have in my possession, I don't think it is. The dissescted track 11 leads smoothly into track 12 without any kind of pause or dead-air lapse in music between tracks to indicate a defect.

Regardless, this CD is otherwise a lovely domestic release significantly less costly than importing, so if you enjoy unconventional music that's a marriage of horror, the darkly cool, and the morosely playful I'd definately suggest picking this up.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD, and thanks, Ecmaster76!.......2006-06-18

Ecmaster76, I am ever-grateful for telling me where I can legally download Shine. I adore that song, and I am so happy I can finally hear the whole thing. BTW, the rest of the CD is awesome too, but I wanted the whole version of Shine.

4 out of 5 stars Vol. 2 Is Definitely Better .......2007-06-29

Fooly Cooly had an amazing deal with the Pillows who provided amazing music for them and it shows on these soundtracks. This is a good album but it lacks a bit. Though I think Vol.2 is better this is still a hot album. For one it only gives you a taste of "Last Dinosaur" on the first track, it only lasts about 20 seconds. Of course "Ride on shooting star" is hot and it will definitely get you into the CD. After that there are very nice songs like "Hybrid Rainbow" and a lot of Pillows instrumentals. The instrumentals are hot don't get me wrong but Sawao has a great voice and I would have loved to have heard it instead of just the music. I got the second volume first because a friend told me that the songs were better. If you're like me and did this then you'll be happy to know that the Drama's aren't on here so there's more room for more music. "Little Busters" is also very nice, I love the hook and "Instant Music" is also one of my favorites. I think that the FLCL soundtracks are amazing and The Pillows are an amazing band that gives great quality music on this album. I only take away a star for the instrumentals which I wish had Sawao on them and that's a personal preference because some people may like them the way they are but this album is still very worth it.

4 out of 5 stars I'd give something higher, but..........2007-03-29

I actually saw FLCL after being introduced to The Pillows, which is a bit backwards. It's partly because of this that I have issues with the soundtrack. While supplying you with the superb music of The Pillows and some Shinkichi Mitsumune, there are some problems with the CD.

For one thing, there are numerous soundtracks. It gets VERY confusing as to which one has what songs. Some soundtracks have the same songs, but different versions.

That's the main problem, though. This, being a soundtrack, only provides us with the glimpses we got from the show as opposed to the full songs by The Pillows themselves. While still nice, thirty second clips are not too substantial. A few songs are long and full, but for the most part, it's quick and short.

Really, if you just watched the show, then this is a good album to purchase. You liked the music and you want to hear it again, here's your buy. For Pillows fans: turn elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars A great mix of The Pillows past work.......2006-06-17

Hmm, FLCL, what a great way to start to become a Pillows fan. Without this amazing anime, I would never of met one of my now favorite bands. Though that's how many americans met them.

This CD features much of the music from FLCL, and really gave the show it's good feel, but I'm going to break this down. The FLCL Soundtracks are basically a mix of many of The Pillows past work. It features many different types of music that they can play as well, which shows their creaitivity in music. They also bring a whole heartedly good feel to it as well. From the haunting song Stalker Goes To Babylon (From their 2nd Compliation, Another Morning, Another Pillows, which came out in 2002) to the Japanese equse Bran-New Lovesong (From their 1999 album Runner's High) , there's a lot of variety and a lot to love.

Basically many songs from their 5th album through their 8th album are on this and the other cd. A few of which are tweaked slightly , like Advice, which was originally a little lighter with Sawao using a funny english accent to even funnier lyrics. And also Runner's High. However many of the songs were cut so they aren't the original verison. Don't start thinking these guys are an instrumental band by any means, they aren't. Well, yes they do have instruamental songs, but most of the songs on here are or were with lyrics in them. A few songs that were changed include Carnival, my personal favorite of theirs and they basically took out the lyrics and cut it down so it was only a minute or so long, compared to the original 4 and a half minute song, and Stalker wasn't really cut down, but the lyrics were taken out.

However this CD doesn't just feature The Pillows, it also has the works of Shinkichi Mitsumune, who uses syntesiers combined with actul insturments to create some very nice songs. Including the somber Rever's Edge to the poppy Pink.

This CD is a great CD, if not the best way to introduce yourself to The Pillows. It'll be helpful in your choosing of wheater or not you want to own more of their CDs, and definatly shows their amazing variety.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING.......2006-03-06

Knowing that there are probably not a lot of FOOLY COOLY fans out there I think that this soundtrack is AMAZING. The music in the series went perfect with the story. The music in the bacjround of a animated show should be uplifting and make you want to dance or hear it again. that is why I rated the soundtrack 5 out of 5. I also think it is a perfect deal for CD ADDICT and CD KING OF PIRATES, because byou would all the tracks from the show.AMAZING

5 out of 5 stars Power Chord guitar with a wild ride!.......2006-02-06

I tripped over "Fooly Cooly" on Adult Swim around 2:00am one night and thought that it was the wierdest things I'd ever seen. Now I've got the whole series on DVD. Even after watching it repeatedly, I STILL think it's one of the trippiest, acid-induced, wacked out, STRANGEST series anywhere. The visual style (and the plot line) is truly something from a seriously deranged mind. In other words: I loved it inside the first 5 minutes.
One of the things that grabbed me and held on tight was the music. It plays against the story and setting perfectly and will make you watch the episodes JUST to hear the tracks. I finally found out about the soundtrack and had to have it. I quickly discovered that there are 4 or 5 FLCL soundtracks and started trying to figure out WHICH ONE had the tracks I wanted. I finally stumbled over "Addict" and this is definitely the one for the FLCL fan. (The track that had my brain totally stuck is from the beginning of episode 1 called "One Life").
The music has alot of heavy power-chord distorted guitar riffs set against a range of sounds that are up and down the scale. This is one of those CD's that will definitely test your ability to fine-tune the equalizer because one second it's all high's and the next there's a LOUD old-school distorted electric guitar roar with a banging tough back beat.
It's a great CD and even though "The Last Dinosaur" is only the 30 second version (apparently there is a "full" version, but I haven't heard it). The rest of the CD has all of the familiar sounds that makes the series so groovy and it MORE than makes up for that.
The Pillows are a groovy hardcore band with a sound that doesn't feel like anything else. This CD should NOT be listened to while driving because your foot gets really heavy when it rocks! (especially track #7 "Stalker"!)

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The four disc masterpiece soundtrack to one, if not, the best FF game ever.......2005-12-19

Not much can be said about the FF VII soundtrack that hasn't already been said. It is simply brilliant, a masterpiece of videogame music that has endured the ages. Final fantasy VII was my favorite FF game and the same can be said of its brlliantly composed music, of course by reknowned Japanese game composer Nobuo Uematsu.
