Hawaiian Favorites by Don Ho.......2007-06-09
Don Ho was always a true Hawaiian entertainer and this CD will keep his music alive.
Awesome .......2007-01-18
I enjoy the music of Don Ho and the product I received from Amazon is in excellent shape. To be able to shop on Amazon for music and other items I would not be able to get here makes it all worthwhile!
Very satisfied and loyal customer,
Jeanne Miller (former Hawaii resident now in Oklahoma)

I don't know about this one...
I listened to the samples, and even though I like Don Ho from what I've heard - I didn't like this. (Don Ho samples) It's an o.k CD, but I don't particularly like it.

Underappreciated and overlooked rock album.......2007-03-08
THE BAND: Johnny Gioeli (vocals, guitar), Neal Schon (lead & rhythm guitars), Joey Gioeli (rhythm guitar), Todd Jensen (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums & percussion).
THE DISC: (1992) 12 tracks clocking in at approximately 52 minutes. Included with the disc is a 6-page foldout containing band photos, song titles/credits (no lyrics), and thank you's. Label - MCA Records.
COMMENTS: I lost this disc back in the mid 90's and came across it again in 2006 and had to order it here on Amazon. Hardline's "Double Eclipse" is truly a lost gem for anyone growing up in the 80's listening to hard/hair/glam rock. Overlooked and underappreciated - the band put together a smoking rock album that simply went nowhere (or at least not as far as it should have gone). Hardline consisted of the relatively unknown Gioeli brothers, legendary guitarist Neal Schon (from Santana, Journey), Jensen on bass (from David Lee Roth days and Alice Cooper), and drummer Castronovo (Bad English, and newer Journey albums among other smaller bands). Hardline's sound was reminiscent of the late 80's hair bands (perhaps just missing the hair/glam wave that was so big) falling right along side other bands (Firehouse, Slaughter, Winger, House Of Lords, Warrant, Skid Row, White Lion, Kix, Lynch Mob, etc) that were big just a few years prior to this '92 release. Why did this album get overlooked? A few reasons in my opinion... the rock/hair/glam music was fading in the early 90's and grunge was becoming the "in" thing to listen to. Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, all released huge albums in 1991-92. Not to mention Rage Against The Machine's award winning debut... as well as heavy metal surging back into the spotlight with Metallica ("Black" album) and Megadeth ("Countdown To Extinction") leading the way during the same time frame. As for the songs on "Double Eclipse" - standard hard rock formula with a few power ballads kicked in for good measure. Two solid mid tempo rockers start it off with "Life's A Bitch" and "Dr. Love". The first ballad is track 4 ("Change Of Heart") and Schon's guitar is the highlight here. The 2nd best slow tune is "Can't Find My Way". The two best harder/faster songs are "Rhythm In a Red Car" and "Bad Taste". The last two tracks are diamonds in the rough, and perhaps my favorite tracks on the album. "31-91" is a minute-and-a-half acoustic (only) piece... which leads right into the album closer "In The Hands Of Time"... another ballad featuring some sparkling acoustic/Spanish/cut-gut guitar. Schon proves his guitar chops on "Double Eclipse" are right on par with anything he's done with Carlos Santana, Journey or Sammy Hagar (another underrated album - HSAS: "Through The Fire"). Some incredible playing here, rocking melodies, meaningful lyrics... a long lost treasure (4.5 stars).
what Schonn is all about.........and a little extra to boot.........2007-02-23
people, what a killer release this is. i bought it in '92 when it was released, not knowing what to expect, as i had never heard a single cut from it. i knew Schonn was the axeman on this baby, and that was all i needed to know. i popped this cd in the player, and was instantly floored. what great melodic, poweful tunes filled my ears. i'm not much of a ballad fan, but even those are great. Dean Castronova on drums was the perfect choice for this type of release, as he adds the power to Schonn's precision. this is how Neal would have played with journey, had the suits let him do so. the Gioeli brothers, unknown to me at the time, do a masterful job as well. it's such a shame that great bands make an album or two, and just fade away, ie. Lynch Mob, Badlands and these guys, to name a few. this release is far superior to their second offering, but that one is pretty tasty as well. i suggest paying the coin for this cd, as it's worth every penny. Hardline 2 will run you about twice as much, but imports often do. get 'em both if ya' can, but this one is the best of the 2. peace.
Doble Eclipse ROXX!!Hardline Forever..........2006-10-05
Hello and Good Day! This certainly is NOT your typical rock and roll cd. John Gioeli vocals are raw real and very emotional! Joey guitar shreds! The music is groovin' bluesy and very catchy. All tracks starting from Life's a Bitch is full of serious rythnm and Dr.Love! well, John the vocalist has a great pair of lungs. All tracks are super rockn' and the ballads are sensational. Taken' Me Down is remarkable. I can't say more to establish how much talent and serious rythmn and GREAT musicianship this cd dispays~ all tracks have Very Very catchy tunes!~ BUY it, and do yourself a huge favor......NOTHING like it EVER!! Hardline Roxx!! Miss Kelly
Good straightforward rock and roll.........2006-09-21
OK, the other reviews will make it seem like I'm knocking this album, but I'm not. This is a very solid album with some good songs, but it isn't the greatest thing ever recorded. I picked this up because of the reviews I had read, the only song I knew previously was Hot Cherie and I liked it so I got the CD.
This is very straight ahead AOR rock in the same vein as Bon Jovi. Every song is very listenable, but only a couple really jump out at you. Hot Cherie is the single most people know and is probably the highlight; Everything, Rythm From A Red Car and Can't Find My Way are also solid. The rest of the album is OK, but again-nothing too exciting.
One thing that does stand out throughout the album is Neal Schon, I have always preferred him outside of Journey. Journey turned into the "Steve Perry Project" and Schon's playing always seemed to be secondary. On this Schon's guitar is right upfront and he comes through with some great riffs and his soloing is fantastic as always.
Overall this album is solid AOR rock that is better than most, just not the best ever.
Ach, Great.......2006-03-30
I listen to this cd alot when I am in the car.. I usually mix Hardline with Danger Danger, Autograph, and Quiet Riot.. Hot Cherie is a great song.. about at the 2:00 mark, Neal Schon comes in with a huge riff. It really can't be anyone else (Neal Schon, produced these guys, and had so much fun that he joined the band)so who can it be? It's Neal Schon. I can tell the difference between guitarists.. They always have a certain speed, and riff usage.. but whatever.
These guys came in around the same time hair metal band Firehouse did.... Who cares if it was released in the 90's. The 90's were quite a time period, and it was quite a fine release. I'm telling you, this is a great cd, look at all the other reviews. everyone loves it. Just like everyone loves Kiss.... or Journey.. or Boston.

Ahhh...the memories........2007-05-10
God, how I used to LOVE this song back in the day. Even now, I can still hear it in my head, and after I saw that GPS commercial, with an audio clip digitally remastered, I just fell in love with it all over again, even though it was only 2-3 seconds. Still, it only took that long to remember the timesI would listen to that faithfully. I've yet to own it on audio CD/DVD, but soon plan to now. This looks like something that would come from Heaven itself, to be completely digitllly restored and remastered!!! What a dream come true! Well, I'm sold, how 'bout you?

A Good Intro to Mana.......2005-07-12
This covers much of the same ground as Mana's greatest album, 'Unplugged ', but adds a few more gems that make it a good introduction to the band and a valuable part of any Mana collection. Highlights you won't find on "Unplugged" include Fehr's piercingly sweet vocal on "Te LLore un Rio," his nod toward Bob Marley on the sexy "Te Deseo," and the classic "Te Llevare al Cielo." More great pop composing, performance, alma, corazon and clean lines of beautiful Spanish on this disc than on a dozen ordinary greatest hits records.
One Song Rating.......2004-10-15
This rating is for Te Llevare Al Cielo only. Like one of the other Raters said I would of myself for Mana to come out with another studio cd. I think its time. But Instead they came out with 3 greatst his cds with the brand new song Te Llevare Al Cielo and I would like to get one of these greatest hits for that song because I love it. I have spanish music video and I have seen the video and I heard it like once on the radio where I live in Flordia. we have 2 spanish radio stations on FM radio down here. I choose to get Eclipse and I want this cd just for that song because I own 2 cds all ready and I want to get all the rest. On to the rating.
The Rating:
I think Te Llevare is the best songs that Mana has done so far untill i bye all the other cds I am missing. I love the kick of the electric guitars. {Oh I love Electric Guitar}. After I learn to play my acoustic I am getting one of them nice litte Electric guitars. But anyway on Te Llevare al Cielo the group plays and sings in well tune. Its a great song. Thanks.
Signing off
Gabe.
An Eclipse Of Hits.......2004-02-24
Even though I would have rather Maná to come back with another studio album, they came up with three albums including their greatest hits. "Sol" includes the band's "dancing" hits, "Luna" includes the band's more romantic hits, and "Eclipse" includes a combination of both types. This CD includes 13 of the band's past hits and 1 new single "Te Llevare Al Cielo". It also includes the video for "Eres Mi Religion", which was the second single of their album "Revolucion De Amor". One thing that I liked about the booklet in this album is that it gives a backround on some of the songs. This album would have been better if they would have added at least one more song.
All in all, this is a very good albums for Maná fans or people who don't have their past albums. I recommend this album.
This Review is For One Song.......2004-02-10
I am wrighting this review for Te Llevare Al Cielo ( I'll Take You To Heaven }. That Song is very nice. I have heard it on the raido and I have heard it and seen the video on my cable box. You have to pay but thats fine. Its cool that I get to watch videos like Te Levare Al Cielo. I have been A Mana fan since Christmas of 2002 not since the begining. And I do not speak alot of spanish but I do understand it. This song is one of their best songs that they have done. I want to get one of these greatest hits just for this song because its a new song that that have done and I want to get all the other cds That they have. I have Revolucion De Amor and Suenos Liqudos. I will have repeat songs but I think its more then worth it to get one of these greatest hits for Te Llevare Al Cielo even if I will have the same songs twice. I am going to get one that have the song as the first one. Thanks. Peace.
Save your money.......2004-01-16
These collections of CDs are a piece of crap. Why make 3 cds of the greatests hits if they don't even have that many studio albums? The simple answer is money. They've lost the talent to make another studio album so they just live off their past glory. They put a nice cover a recycled songs and "enhance" the cd. So stupid unknowing fans will go out and buy it. If you already have their past albums no need to buy this garbage. If you have bought it you're out of luck. A blank CD is worth more than this crap.

A wonderful encore to the movie soundtrack!.......2003-07-20
After I listened to the CD 'Music from the motion picture The Pianist', which had one piece played by Wladyslaw Szpilman, it was only natural to want to hear more recordings of this great musician and person. This CD has 13 music pieces by Szpilman, and they are wonderful. The movie used mainly Chopin's music, but Szpilman's repertoire- which he preserved through mental piano practice during the war- is quite varied. The CD has him playing Rachmaninov, Schumann, Debussy, Albeniz, Gruenfeld, J.S.Bach, Kreisler, and of course Chopin (Nocturne in C sharp minor appears twice- recorded in 1980 and 1948 respectively).
The highlight of the CD is Szpilman's own composition- Concertino for Piano and Orchestra which he mentions in his book, and which he wrote in 1940- just when the difficult times began.
Szpilman's piano style is different from that of Janusz Olejniczac, whose performances are on the other CD. They both are wonderful in their own way, but it was exciting for me to listen to the real life Pianist. I will look for more works by Wladyslaw Szpilman, including his songs.
The Pianist Original Recordings.......2003-03-26
THe Pianist won 3 Oscars on Sunday
This classical recording inspired Roman Polanski to direct this great movie about a pianist, Szpilman who survived the war.
Everyone should have this cd in their collection.
Impressive CD by the Pianist.......2003-01-06
Could not wait to get my hands on this one. Sorry, but did have to buy it elsewhere. Could not wait. After seing the movie I wanted to know more about this man and what he played. It includes his version of Chopin's Nocturne as performed on the end credits. Great !
Only sorry that I did not get such a good deal as from Amazon. This is a keeper !
The original recordings by THE PIANIST W. Szpilman.......2003-01-06
I saw Polanski's "THE PIANIST" last weekend and was very impressed and wanted to learn more about the real hero of the movie. I searched online for his recordings. After two days I received two CD's from Amazon.com related to Wladyslaw Szpilman: One with his beautiful songs by Wendy Lands and another one with his Original recordings. He plays wonderful Chopin ( i.e. the Nocturne from the final scene of the movie ), Rachmaninoff, Bach and his own music - Concertino for Piano and Orchestra composed in the Warsaw Ghetto in a time of deepest repressions by the Germans. He was a great pianist but I was surprised how optimistic is his music and indeed how American it is. After I learned his story through the movie, now I also got in touch with this man personally, trough his artistry. Great feeling!!

Fantastic Music.......2007-07-16
This lady can really sing and sing she does on the CD. I watched her on AMC and just recently heard her sing in one of the episodes. Song selection is interesting. Most of the songs chosen were made popular by "male" artists but Bobby does a fanastic job on each one of them. They should let her sing more on the show. Wonderful balance of music chosen.
RAD.......2007-01-12
Well it is pretty simple, the title of the album is "Something Beautiful" and that is what the album is, beautiful. Her voice, I really enjoy. Though most, if not all the songs are covers, she does a wonderful job, and does justice to the origional artists. I really enjoy this album, and I reccommend it to others looking for a beautuful female voice to relax to.
The title says it all!.......2005-09-24
I learned about Bobbie Eakes when she played Macy Alexander on the CBS daytime serial The Bold & The Beautiful. I also found out she was a singer as well as an actress. Those who own this album also are fans of other singers/actresses like Katey Sagal,Bette Midler,Cher,Debbie Allen and Madonna.
Great music.......2005-09-15
I just recieved this CD and have listened to it three times.Love it!!!I hope to see her sing on All My Children.
krystal kicks it up another notch!.......2005-08-08
i love this woman as an actress but worship at her altar as a singer. this stuff is great the biggest and only drawback is that this is the only record i can find by her after searching the web un successfully to find at least one more. well maybe in time? this is great stuff so don't make my wait too long for the next one. start now bobbie and please come to pittsburgh so i can hear you sing this live and maybe get my copy autographed. having krystal become a lounge or country singer on all my children may be the next storyline for her let's hope.

Very Disappointed.......2006-06-26
The renditions of these great songs are an embarassment. If you are looking for rousing versions of patriotic music forget it on this CD. Also not the same title list on the CD as on the item description on Amazon.
Kind of disappointed! .......2005-03-22
Was'nt exactly what I expected. There must be two versions to this CD. The tracts are not the same as the CD listed on Amazon.
There are 16 like the other one, but a lot of the songs are different. All are vocal. I would'nt buy this CD unless you can get it really cheap and you are willing to get a CD that is different from the one listed. Has good sound but is not my style.
Looking at the release date makes one cringe, but good album.......2004-05-16
Trust the distributor to release this compilation on 9/11 of all days!! However it is still a good collection of America's best patriotic music. Favourites include 'Yankee Doodle' and the national anthem 'Star Spangled Banner'. A fine album for proud Americans

The Definitive Black Metal Album.......2006-07-22
I did not like the album on first listen--the production quality sounded poor. (This was actually good production quality for the genre at the time.) It is now my favorite album, and I would not change the sound one bit. This sounds like ancient evil. I love the mood of it. So dark and full of despair. A sick feeling that they lost on future albums.
A landmark in black metal.......2006-05-08
This is probably one of black metal's finest bands. This album also stands as one of the best black metal albums ever made, from the haunting keyboard melodies to the incredible cover art, everything about this album is superb.

Recommended, but a.k.a. K-Tel "Celtic Collections".......2006-06-16
This album with a different cover (a barren tree, stone wall, stormy clouds) but identical track listings was issued in Ireland 1996 by K-Tel in its Celtic Collections series. Often the same 12 tracks have been issued as "Greatest Hits" and "Celtic Collections: Horslips" (K-Tel Ireland) "The Very Best of Horslips" and "[The] Horslips Greatest Hits." These are not the re-mastered, band-approved recordings that Horslips began issuing in the new century. Worth knowing, for many packagings of this pioneering band exist. "Greatest Hits" may be hyperbole, but Horslips could conjure up at their strongest truly stirring and naggingly unforgettable (in the true sense) hard rock/prog folk.
Horslips after decades of legal battles has re-released re-mastered versions of all their albums, the good, the bad, and the blah. I have all of their LPs, and some of these on CDs issued during said legal limbo (I apologize to the band, but I am a loyal fan, and there was no way of knowing especially in faraway lands about the band's being ripped off by their labels back in the 80s when I bought 'em.) If you live in America, these new issues are pricy beyond even what import CDs typically cost. So, in the meantime while you save your dough, this is a great appetizer and a fine introduction to lure new listeners. Despite what sounds a dubious K-Tel compilation, you get here a good case made for what the cover calls "the ultimate folk-rock album."
From their first album, "Happy to Meet": "An Bratach Ban." The Irish journalist (and former beau of Sinead O'Connor) John Waters wrote that when he heard this, he thought of what Irish music could have been like if the past 800 years of British rule had never happened. That is, how Irish music might have sounded if it had been exported and crossbred. This melds a reggae-ish bass & drum rhythm to a hoedown C&W banjo break atop Irish trad-meets-sprightly folk, not to mention Irish-language lyrics. Surely a unique song, and a catchy one, as are all on this album.
Four strong songs from "The Book of Invasions" and two from "The Táin" sample their two best LPs, those joining ancient legends with hard folk-rock akin to a prog-Tull blend circa mid-70s. Even their last album, the failed "Short Stories," gives the decent track "Guests of the Nation," although why this shares the title with Frank O'Connor's heartrending story from Ireland's war for independence eludes me. "The High Reel" also shows C%W and American folk's Irish roots well, and is a cut not on any of their studio CDs, only on the odds-and-sods "Tracks from the Vaults." From the first of their two humdrum stretches you get a fine trad version of "King of their Fairies;" their later lurch towards stadium rock anthems gives the bold "The Man Who Built America" title track (too many whirling keyboards for me, but it does stick in your memory) while the transitional, very Tull-sounding (not only to me) "Aliens" provides another trad song done heartily, "Speed the Plough."
Like I said, this is the most inexpensive assortment of Horslips available, and if you live outside Ireland or Britain, I recommend it, but warn you that you may well wish that you could easily afford their albums proper. But read carefully before buying them, as the band made very good albums yet at other times quite dull albums, although their knack for memorable tunes never completely failed them even in their two fallow periods amidst their more Irish-trad themed fertile sonic harvests. Literate, ambitious, clever music, they were Ireland's first DIY rock band, and future generations surely took notice of them in the mid-70s.
Music from another world.......2005-11-09
Hey! I just discovered this band. I love how their music feels likes it's coming from another world. It reminds me of Outgrabe. When I'm listening it helps me get out of my same-old same-old headspace and dream. Really dream
Irish rock.......2005-08-30
I really enjoy this album. Generally, it contains all the features of Irish folk music, but with a pop/ rock frame. Some of the chorusing sounds repetitive and dated, but this is more than compensated by their "feel good" factor.
the creators of eire-rock.......2005-08-02
The great Irish rock group Horslips were the first group to successfully meld traditional themes of Celtic music with rock and roll. Long before the current "new wave of Irish rock and roll", long before Thin Lizzy, or Stiff Little Fingers, or U2, or The Cranberries, or the Pogues and Shane MacGowan, there was Horslips. Their glorious renderings of the Irish and Irish-American experience are captured in such songs as "The Man Who Built America," "The Power and the Glory," and "Trouble (With a Capital 'T')," all of which were minor FM radio hits in the mid-to-late '70's. The only possible misgiving to be had with this disc is that it's missing "Loneliness," which is without doubt the most joyous song you'll ever hear about the title condition. Happily enough, that particular song can be found on the re-release of the band's classic recording "The Man Who Built America."

Album Description
"The beautiful, sad love songs on Marissa Nadler's tremendous sophomore effort The Saga of Mayflower May are surprisingly even better than those on last year's widely acclaimed Ballads of Living and Dying. Her mysterious voice...is gorgeous and evocative, especially when it's layered in multi-tracked harmony. She may be a contemporary folkie, but she seems somewhat removed from the current trends...there's something a lot more classic and old-fashioned about her approach, which makes The Saga of Mayflower May seem quite a bit more timeless than many of the other records that have been coming out of this genre." - OTHER MUSIC
"Marissa Nadler's emotional vibration of a voice, drawing comparisons as wide as Karen Dalton, Judy Dyble and Hope Sandoval, shimmers over cyclical Leonard Cohen-esque finger picked compositions for acoustic guitar, the proceedings fleshed out by tasteful use of organ, chimes and recorder." - COMES WITH A SMILE
"Another captivating collection of songs steeped in the melancholy of distant, half-forgotten passion, doomed love affairs, and various crimes of the heart...an enthralling album." - PITCKFORKMEDIA
Hailed as a smoky chanteuse both sultry and captivating, Marissa Nadler's songs are mostly mournful dirges and melancholic ballads. Delving into influences of old-timey Americana folk, Portuguese fado, psychedelia and country, the songwriting is gripping and unique. Pursuing the persona poem, most of the songs are stories of tragic deaths, forbidden fates, jilted love affairs and stormy suicides, as well as some introspective first-person songs. In concert, the melodrama is obvious, each performance is dripping with vaudevillian nostalgia. Nadler's intricate fingerstyle guitar comes through on six-string, twelve-string, banjo, ukelele, and autopharp. Her voice is velvety, resonant and soaring with ethereal reverberations.
Customer Reviews:
I loved everything you saw.......2007-03-09
There is hardly an album these days you can listen from the beginning to the end without the urge to skip ahead some songs. "The Saga of Mayflower May" is one of the rare exceptions - when you put this disc in your player, prepare yourself to the journey to some other strangely beautiful, sad and nostalgic realm, narrated by mesmerizing voice of Marrisa Nadler.
Unfortunately, the journey will be pretty short - just a bit over half an hour, which is probably the direct result of excluding any random songs from this homogeneous album.
Another disappointment is the ascetic design of the CD - there are no pretty booklets or other eye candy included, just barely readable lyrics and other mandatory stuff printed in the spread of the CD case.
Songs of Tragic Romance and Ghastly Beauty.......2006-08-22
[...]
Marissa Nadler is a singer from an alternate universe. In this world, laurel-wreathed maidens sit on the wooden porches of their mountain cabins, weaving their colorful tapestry and humming tales of doomed love. Nadler's second album is sparse, but the two main instruments-her delicate, yet intricate guitar and her crystalline soprano fill it up. The songs she writes are part Appalachian murder ballads, part the musings of a young girl who's absorbed the works of Poe. This dark, dreamy album is an artifact from the Bronte sibling's imagined world, full of ghastly beauty and tragic romance.
