On the same level as Juan Luis Guerra. A must buy........2002-07-03

Akex Mansilla is the best thing to come out of Dominican Republic since Juan Luis Guerra. His style is similar to Guerra's, but defintely has uniqueness. I say Mansilla is closer to jazz than Guerra. This album is the work of a genius. Most of the songs are merengues, and there are a couple of excellent salsas as well.
In one of the salsas Guerra himself collaborates with Mansilla.
In summary, those two are simply the best of merengue and are what this genre should be all about. Together they would create a dream team. It is too bad they don't collaborate more and Mansilla is not more active recording. His first two albums came in the late 80's and early 90's and are nearly impossible to find these days. 6 plus years after his second album we have "Mar Caribe". That is just too long for this incredible talent. I hope he comes out with new material soon.
