Born in Cuba in 1911, Portabales, with his Warm Emotive Voice, is One of the Finest Practitioners of the Son and "Guajira De Salon" a Kind of Rural Song Form Describing the Joys, Pains, and Daily Life of the Guajiras. His Approach was Less Jibaro and More Urban Than Some of his Peers. He Died in Puerto Rico in 1970, Tragically at the Age of 59, after Being Hit by a Car. These Songs Are Beautiful, and Quite Moving.

It has been a long time since he, unfortunately, decided to stop singing and this CD, truly, reflects best his wonderful voice, his sense of music and the never forgotten songs people loved. Well Laura has finally released a Greatest Hits. Sadly for me her early hits have some unneccesary arragments. Specially GENTE is ruin. SE FUE, AMORES and SOLEDAD, should remain original!, why do they change it, I'm really upset. But the rest of the tracks happily remain in their original version. It's utterly neccesary to mention to say Laura Pausini is one of the vocaly gifted woman of the earth. This is a worth to own album....*****FIVE STARS to Pausini talents, *ONE STAR to the new arragment to the original early cuts.

LA MEJOR DISCO QUE TENGO.......2004-06-12

I first listened to a song from this C.D. in a coffee shop in Spain. It was track 4 "son amores." After listening to this song I immediatly asked the worker in the coffee shop who it was by. I then bought the mejores C.D. and I love every single sony on the C.D. The words are beautiful, the beat in the songs are awesome, and now I am going to buy the rest of the CD's. This is definitely the best C.D. that I own, and the first C.D. I have ever bought that I like every single song on. I would reccommend it to anyone studying Spanish or anyone who speaks Spanish. Me encanta. Ojala venga a los EEUU para hacer un concierto!

I have heard many songs by Laura before, and have always loved her voice. She reminds me a lot of Rocio Jurado...the two of them have an opera-like voice, but sweeter and softer vocals. I had never owned a Laura CD, but "Volveré Junto a ti" along with "Entre tu y Mil Mares", "Escucha tu Corazón" and her voice is more than enough reasons to own this CD. Currently 3 people in my household have this CD!!! God bless you Laura and thank you for your beautiful and mesmerizing voice. Viva Laura.

Hire a New Composer for This Talented Singer!!!.......2003-11-19

By the middle of the 5th track, I was ready to swap out the CD! As a new listener to Laura Pausini, I was mesmerized by her bright voice and at the same time saddened by the monotonous tunes, track after track. Laura Pausini would be much better showcased by borrowing song writres from Celene Dion and even Britney Spears. And I agree with other reviewers that Gilberto Gil should not have a singing career, definitely not with Laura!

This Cd is really cool. I can't help but listen to it when I am in my car. It sort of puts you in a good mood when you're mad. While listening to it, you can't help but start singing the songs even if you may not always understand what they are saying. LOL. I originally bought it at a CD store and I can honestly say that the price that Amazon is charging is much cheaper and a good deal. As stated before it is worth it!

BENY MORE- "LO MEJOR DE LO MEJOR".......2001-07-02

BMG/RCA ARIOLA DE MEXICO has put together a great compilation of Beny More's Mexican tour (1945-1952) and also included some of his RCA Havana recorded sessions with his own band and that of Ernesto Duarte. It is great that "occasionally shelved" hit songs like "Las Posadas", "La Maricutana" and "Loca Pasion, by Beny with Mariano Merceron Orch. were included in this compilation. Although more of these rare sessions with Merceron should've been included, this is a "handy to have" compilation, 40 songs especially for those who are just getting to know "El Barbaro del Ritmo", Beny More and above all, the price is right!

I love this double CD, and if you are new to Miguel Aceves Mejia, this collection will sure give you a taste of that wonderful voice. It's not considered beautiful like Cuco Sanchez, it's unique...and complete with that famous yell he is popular for.

Miguel was a movie star of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. He has trademark hair, a patch of white at the crown.

Although this is old music, it's not remastered to stereo, but as mono, the sound is great!

I love the two CDs, but CD one has more of my favorites. He is best with faster tunes. This double cd is a GEM!.....MzRizz

Wonderful Corridos, Rancheras and Huapangos!.......2002-12-31

Miguel Aceves Mejia has the perfect voice for Huapangos--he can carry the long, high notes that characterize these songs, including Malaguena, El jinete, and Rogaciano. His wonderful voice combined with great expression of emotion also makes him one of Mexico's best singers of corridos and rancheras. He is accompanied by great Mariachi bands. 40 great songs! It's a bargain.

This set contains some of the best latin music I've ever heard. Repeated listening just makes one marvel at the play of the voices and guitar. I grew up in L.A. listening to some of these songs and Los Tres Ases does them better than anyone else. The sound is soft but deep, and somewhat idiosyncratic. What a pity that they broke up not long after the latest songs on the disk. Check out Sabor a Mi, Historia de un Amor, and Mi Unica Verdad. Haunting and lovely. A real masterpiece.

A good combination of slow songs as well as some fast ones.Was a change I admit the fast ones they were versatile.Songs such as lo dudo,estoy perdido,la puerta,cien mujeres to name a few are great.This is a good collection by rca label or bmg.Buy this you will be happy you did.If you liked Luis Miguels"romance cd's,then go buy this.Cause these are the guys he probably heard the original versions from or other trios in that time frame.The 50's and 60's.I'm just a lover of good music be it spanish or english.

If you have only heard their giant hit 'Sin Ti' and want to know if there are any more like it, I assure you that you will find something on this greatest hits collection that you will like just as much, although it probably won't be their version of 'Whiter Shade of Pale.' Not sure why that one got included.

I liked Jose Manuel Figueroa's "Mala Hierba" CD so much, for which Joan wrote all the songs, that I bought this...well, better late than never, and it turns out that Jose is Joan's son !

His voice is wonderful, it has a beautiful gentleness to it, and the songs are so melodic and uplifting. And the lyrics are sensational ! This is new music to my ears, and I'm not sure how to classify it. Some of it has a "border" sound, a dash of Country, and some gorgeous baladas. I'll just put it in the "I love it" category. It's a CD that gets better with each hearing, and you can listen to it repeatedly...it has an infectious joy, written and sung by a true artist.

It includes 2 duets, one with Lisa Lopez, "Rumores", another with Prisma, "Oiga". My favorites are "Veinticinco Rosas", "Juliantla", "Amor Desesperado", "Alma de Niña"...but how can I leave out "No le Tengas Compasion" with its superb lyrics ! Impossible to choose...all 15 tracks are great. The jewel case doesn't have a booklet, but does have a good cover photo, and song list on the back.

Reading Joan's biography on his official web site, his early hardships are heartbreaking, but a great inspiration for other struggling artists. Thank goodness he had the faith and fortitude to keep on keeping on...and to bring the world this marvelous music.
