Rara vez me gusta tanto un album de tributo a ningun artista. Parece dificil para un fanatico poder asimilar versiones de los mejores temas de su artista favorito. Pero en "Serrat Eres Unico" se combina lo mejor del talento hispanoamericano del momento, para rendir tributo a la musica de un genio: Joan Manuel Serrat.

Grabado en 1996, el album destaca particularmente por las participaciones de Diego Torres, quien versiona la legendaria "Penelope" de manera impecable; Carlos Varela, a cargo del encantador tema "Esos Locos Bajitos"; y Ketama, interpretando una inolvidable version de "Aquellas Pequeýas Cosas".

Though every song in this CD is different from the others, in terms of voice, music and even "feeling," I liked every one of them. The disk is very well produced and you could enjoy each feature of it, from the lyrics (Spanish mostly) to the very performance of all the singers that participated.

No es un disco homenaja de atristas que nesecitan cantar temas conocidos para hacerse de una fama ficticia, sino gente ya con un lugar en la musica que le ride homenaje sincero a uno de los mas antiguos y meores compositores de habla hispana. Los areglos vienen muy modernizados y con el toque de cada artista, asi que si se es un fantatico purista de Serrat quiza no sea el mejor disco, pero si se sabe apreciar otras versiones se puede disfritar enormemente.

Serrat has composed more than 300 songs, so this is just a little sample of of the great ability that he has to write songs. It's just a wonderful compilation of his work during more than 30 years. The only bad thing about it, is that he does not sing any song in this CD...

Few Words Can Describe!.......2006-05-10

Seriously, when I first saw Lior live I was mute for at least an hour afterwards (which is saying alot for me!!)! At that time I had only heard two of his songs (This Old Love and Autumn Flow) and was a little hesitant to see him perform without a little more knowledge.
I am really glad that I went to see him, however, because he is an AMAZING act live! His studio-recorded album is superb but like the best artists, he surpasses himself when he is given free rain with his also amazing band. To hear his gorgeous voice brought me close to tears that first time and has continued to do so the subsequent performances I was lucky enough to go to.
Lior's release of Doorways in My Mind was a much anticipated event in my household and he did not disappoint! The old fav's This Old Love and Daniel were as great as ever, as were Gypsy Girl and Bedouin Song. But the standout songs for me had to be Autumn Flow with its added funkiness, Sitting With a Stranger with its awesome strings intro and Building Ships, which I never really appreciated until I heard it live. There are also a few extra songs not on his first album that are beautiful and still a novelty having not played them on repeat for the last year!
My only disappointment would be that he didn't include his live version of superficial which gave the band a nice chance to show their stuff a little more!
Overall, if you live in Australia GO AND SEE HIM LIVE and then buy the album! But if you are unlucky enough to live overseas this man's albums are absolutely worth you buying until he is big enough to tour overseas! So BUY IT NOW!!!

This CD is everything a live album should be. It beautifully captures the spirit of this wonderful performer, showcasing his extraordinary talent as a musician and songwriter. While a lot of live albums tend to offer lifeless performances that fail to match the quality of their studio versions, this recording proves Lior to rank amongst the finest of pop-folk musicians today.

The rootsy "Autumn Flow" rocks like never before, the eastern influence of "Sitting With A Stranger" is further enhanced with an awesome string intro, and the tender ballads "Bedouin Song" and "Building Ships" are delivered with delicacy and grace.

This recording is also a testament to his astounding capabilities as a vocalist. Not only does his voice sound as silky-smooth live as it does on his debut (Autumn Flow, 2005), but his performances of "Grey Ocean" and "Avinu Malkeinu" (a traditional middle-eastern prayer) will make your spine tingle as his vocals soar in a way you won't hear on the studio album.

The two new cuts ("Diego & The Village Girl" and "Burying Chances") are excellent inclusions that really lift the pace and energy of this album. The set closes with the hit "This Old Love;" a stunning rendition that will make you appreciate how timeless this song really is - and hearing an audience sing along to a song they know and love is always a treat!

Recommended to fans of thoughtful pop/folk music (Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine, Emiliana Torrini...) Lior is the kind of artist you find after wading through all the James Blunts and Ben Lees of the world, looking for something ORIGINAL. Can't wait to see him live!

Live performances from Edwin Fischer's final decade of concerts feature him as soloist, chamber musician, and conductor. Fischer's rare interpretive insights can best be heard in his exalted slow movement of Brahms's Sonata No. 3, earning appreciative applause from the knowledgeable audience. The set includes inevitable finger slips and wrong notes, inconsequential byproducts of his striving for artistic integrity. More important, his unerring sense of tempo conveys the heart of the music. Slow movements are soulful but liquid. Drama is always present, allied to a gorgeous tone. His reputation for seriousness doesn't prevent a romp through the Rondo of Beethoven's Concerto No. 1 or the beautifully phrased, long-breathed lyricism of the Romance movement of Mozart's 20th Concerto. Appropriately, since Fischer was an outstanding Bach interpreter, there's a lot of Bach here, including a Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 unannounced anywhere on the box, track listings, or notes. Much of the Bach on this set will sound dated and heavy to modern ears, but it's compelling nonetheless. Those who know Fischer's lofty Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 with Furtwängler (Testament) will be surprised to hear this nearly contemporaneous, swifter, and less symphonic live version with Hans Munch. It's a highlight of a set with few duds. At six discs for the price of four, and nicely packaged in a space-saving box with good notes and variable sound (mostly vintage broadcast quality), the set is a valuable tribute to a great artist. --Dan Davis
