Great Addition to My Collection.......2006-10-29

Jordie Savall and Hesprion XX do it again. I've yet to hear a CD of his that I didn't love. Most of my collection of 15th-17th Century music is English, French, German, and Italian, and I am happy to see the Spanish masters taking their place alongside them.

Excellent, but What Are the Words?.......2006-07-04

This is a wonderful collection of music spanning many centuries, some of which you are unlikely to encounter anywhere else. The performances are beautiful, too. The one drawback is that the liner notes contain very few song text translations, a big problem for a large CD set with music that is primarily vocal.

I have quite a number of CDs with Medieval Age polyphony, byzantine chant and renaissance music, but this collection goes beyond what could usually be expected from such boxsets. I'd highly recommend it to all.

This is the best collection of medieval music I have ever heard. The performances are top-notch, and all of the songs are well done. I highly reccomend this collection not only for fans of medieval music, but for any music lover.

7.5 hours of superb music at a most reasonable price........1999-12-24

There isn't a clunker in this set. All the performers are top drawer and the recordings are good. The notes are a little brief and a bit scholarly, but can be ignored easily.

You will get an idea of the different kinds of medieval music as well as the top groups and soloists working currently in the field.

When I got this set, my mother and I listened to all 7+ hours straight through. We then started buying CDs from the different performers we had to hear more from.

At twice the price, this would still be an excellent addition to any classical or medieval music collection, as well as the best introduction to medieval music around.

Clasicos de las Americas has Good Gottschalk.......2004-02-23

This six CD set has the Central and South American greats, but I prefer the North American who did some of his best composition South of the border. Louis-Moreau Gottschalk had the life of a modern day Rock Star. He is joined in this set by such prominent players as Heitor Villa-Lobos, George Gershwin, Augustin Barrios, and Carlos Guastavino. George Rabol is a favorite pianist.

Beware Redundant Collection.......2001-11-07

Don't get this CD. Instead, get "Music for the Spanish Kings," also from Virgin. The latter has two disks for the same price, and one of them is identical to "Viva Rey Ferrando." The booklet in "Viva Rey" is bigger, however, and includes the lyrics.

Secular Renaissance music from Italy and Spain is really delightful stuff, and Hesperion XX or XXI is a top notch ensemble.

A fascinating album..........2003-09-25

This album by Raulin is fascinating that is just the only way to describe it. This production follows his landmark album Medicina de amor and the talent continues. I drove around Miami six years ago for a day trying to find a store that had it and I eventually did find it. It was worth the search. Once again Raulin gives us his heart and soul in his lyrics and in his voice both evidenced in all these bachatas. I remember the first time I listened to this album I thought that Raulin had taken a big jump in maturity. He just seems so mature in this production and so in control. There are plenty of bachatas in this album that you will enjoy. The most popular songs from this one which surely enough you will recognize are: Dame corazon, Amor de mi vida, Si supieras and El amor da vida. In a nutshell I like all of the bachatas and I do not care for the merengues at all. In total there are four. Raulin....what can I say. You are the best! I hope you enjoy this great romantic bachata album.
