not all the greatest hits.......2007-01-13
Outstanding collect of songs in both english and spanish from beautiful Tex-Mex tejano singer, cut down in her young prime.......2006-09-28
Fan Club leader. Selena was well on her way
to replacing the (phony) 'MaDonna's and
Cheryl Crow(breaths) of the world of 'Pop
Muzak', when it happened. Shows what danger
lies in the Cults. Her grave in Texas is still
mobbed with well wishers and flowers, as it
should be. Hasta luego, Princess!
The English Album-What the I'm Dreaming of You album should have been 10 years ago........2006-02-19
2. I Could Fall In Love-A pretty song and a pretty huge hit in the late-mid-nineties.
3. Captive Heart-A sexy and fun song with a lot of passion.
4. I'm Getting Used To You-Is a pretty good song...until you get used to it. Then its just plain old good.
5. God's Child-I like the sentiment but just don't like the song so much.
6. Dreaming of You-This song was a huge hit and a fan favorite-but I'm so over it.
7. Missing My Baby-Another good song that is slightly dated. It totally has the early nineties vibe to it.
8. Wherever You Are-A song which was made so cool back in the day by the merging of the then hot band Barrio Boyz and a leaving her band behind Selena. The video for this song screams 90s!
9. Only Love-The best heartbreak ballad she ever recorded that still holds up. Its a good song to listen to while you're driving and crying over a lost love.
10. A Million To One-Her best upbeat tune that still holds up.
11. Where Did The Feeling Go?-A song that while is sung beautifully now has a slightly "cheesey" sound to it.
12. Is It The Beat?-Her best dance song-slightly dated but still so much fun to listen to, so upbeat and just all around uplifting!
13. A Boy Like That-Not my favorite song from the musical and a little too goth to be enjoyable. Kind of haunting.
14. Always Mine-SPANGLISH ALERT! A song that is definetly from "those" times!
15. Don't Throw My Love Away-An enjoyable remix of 'My Love'.
16. Disco Medley: I Will Survive/Funkytown/Last Dance/The Hustle/On The Radio-Studio recordings don't do her justice. Listen to her live to know why Selena's legacy and legend live on!
Great Collection Of Selena Hits.......2006-02-03
However there are some very strong Selena hits presented here. I know they are ALL in English and none in spanish so the album does seem a little un-fair, but so many classic Selena songs are on here. Basically All of the songs she was planning to put on her English Debuet recorded with EMI records. You could think of this as the Finished "Dreaming Of You".
Her Two massive U.S. Radio Hits "I Could Fall In Love" and "Dreaming Of You" are included in this collection. They are her two best songs. The Radio Hits are certainlly not the only enjoyable songs on here. "My Love" is a Great R'n'B Pop song and really shows the Fly Girl side Selena opittimized so well.
This track even though short was extremely catchy, and could have been a single. "Missing My Baby" is another sparkling R'n'B tune that is kind of Lovey - Dovey and Cute. Good Song.
"I'm Getting Used To You" is another smooth track the album has to offer. Not as good as the previous two, but certainlly not a bad song.
The Flamenco Tinged "Always Mine" is a fun track that will no boubt get you up and dancing. It has some Spanish language pieces in it, and sounds great. Other song to get you up and dancing are the Club Like "Is It The Beat" which is one of the albums highlights. Two other good Selena ballads are showcased here. The rarely heard R'n'B ballad "Only Love" and early love song attempt "Where Did The Feeling Go" were previously unreleased on a Selena album, and make this compilation a real keeper. Selena's tribute to the "West Side Story" Soundtrack "A Boy Like That" which is a smooth Groove Ballad is also included here, so overall though this album Offers none of her Cumbia hits it has plenty of Tejano, and Mainstream Hits. I reccommend buying this over "Dreaming Of You" anyday, because this gives you a lot more for your money, and is definetly worth it. If You want some of Selena's Cumbia Rhythms I suggest purchasing "Selena - Live" or "Unforgettable - The Live Album" because Selena's Cumbia Songs are always heard best when she sings live, because the intensity and Rhythm is captured and these albums show Selena's true talent as a performer. This is one of Selena's best Compilations and has plenty to offer for any Selena fan. It is a Must Own.

Released three months after her murder in 1995, Dreaming of You introduced the Tejano queen to the mainstream pop audience. Four new tunes recorded with producers Keith Thomas and Guy Roche envisioned Selena as a dance-pop diva similar to Janet Jackson or Mariah Carey, but with a Latin twist. Far more arresting are the two classic mariachi numbers and a bilingual duet with David Byrne recorded for the movie Don Juan DeMarco, in which Selena had a bit part. The contrast between her passionate invitation to "come dance with me" and Byrne's nerdy white-guy delivery indicated her wide-open creative potential. The rest of the album consists of remixes of Selena's Latin-pop hits, including a masterful version of "Techno Cumbia" that bring out the hip-hop and reggae flavors in the groove. The tragedy was that such a promising introduction also served as a sad farewell. --Rick MitchellCustomer Reviews:

I won't say much but buy this album, or "Selena-Greatest Hits" or "Selena-The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack".
You will not be sorry. I also heard Jennifer Lopez sing "I Could Fall In Love" in her Puerto Rican concert and that song is also beautiful. There has never been songs like these before Selena, and nobody could or can do it better then Selena.
She truly was a beautiful and pure person, and listening to her beautiful songs will surely comfort you. She also does GREAT Cumbia Melodies. Anyone who picks up a Selena album will be glad they did, and I feel blessed I have been lucky enough to hear some of this late singers work. I know that once you hear these songs you will become a huge Selena fan, and Treasure her Music and carry it with you in your life ALWAYS. I know I certainly will.

The soundtrack to the biopic of late Texan star Selena is an even better homage to the singer than the film itself. Incorporating rare tracks, hits, and sizzling live cuts, the album brims with Selena's energy and charisma. Especially invigorating are "Disco Medley, Part II," recorded during Selena's triumphant 1995 concert at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and the eight-minute live Cumbia Medley, which blends some of her biggest Spanish hits. "Where Did the Feeling Go?" is an early pop precursor to nuanced hits such as "I Could Fall in Love" and "Dreaming of You," which are also included. The album also features Selena's searing rendition of "A Boy Like That," originally featured on a West Side Story tribute album, and "Viviras Selena," a touching tribute featuring Tejano stars Jennifer Peña, Emilio, and Bobby Pulido. --Joey GuerraCustomer Reviews:

By now, Selena's recordings are like familiar friends, dropping in once a year or so to show off a new outfit that feels familiar, only it's prettied up in some new way. Ones offers 19 of the late Tejano diva's biggest hits, including the bittersweet crossover ballads "I Could Fall in Love" and "Dreaming of You." Every song sparkles with Selena's irresistible personality and rich, full-throttle delivery, especially impressive considering she was in her late teens and early 20s when most of these songs were recorded. The new addition here is "Con Tanto Amor," a three-song medley of "Amor Prohibido," "Si Una Vez," and "Como La Flor," that achieves added poignancy as a ballad. Ones also comes packaged with a DVD featuring Selena's complete video collection, from the shoestring-budget "La Carcacha" to the elegant "No Me Queda Mas." --Joey GuerraCustomer Reviews:

This third compilation of Selena's material is hyped by EMI officials as being a complete collection of her biggest hits. It is no exaggeration. All 16 tracks are hits, and the disc includes her biggest numbers, such as "Amor Prohibido," "Como la Flor," and "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom." The CD features her English-language hits as well: "I Could Fall in Love," "Dreaming of You," and "Missing My Baby." There's also "Disco Medley Pt. II (Last Dance/The Hustle/On the Radio)," recorded live at the Houston Rodeo. Selena and the band sound sharp and on the money. "On the Radio" impacts in particular, through its lyrics about love conducted in secret--a situation that applied to Selena and her guitarist Chris Perez before they were married in 1992. --Ramiro BurrCustomer Reviews:

Released in March 1994 exactly a year before Selena would be shot and killed by her ex-fan club president, this CD demonstrates a band at the peak of its creative force. The hits were obvious--the eloquent "Amor Prohibido," on love conducted in secret, and "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom," a magical pop tune that could work in any dance club. "Cobarde" and "El Chico" were easy cumbias to like; "Fotos y Recuerdos" was an ironic message on having only photographs and memories left. But highly underrated was the lovely and stoic "No Me Queda Mas," on facing the end, yet keeping a sense of dignity and self-worth. --Ramiro BurrCustomer Reviews:
Because she's worth it........2006-10-18
It mainly consists of cumbia/tejano popular sounds, most of them very entertaining and completed by Selena's most charismatic voice. All of the tracks are beautiful and stay in memory, but my personal all-time favourite Selena song is the final track 'Ya no', with powerful rock inputs and Selena's husband, Chris Perez, giving us an exquisite quitar solo.
Plus, Selena gets so passionate when singing, that you can actually feel her sinking into the song.
Most of the tracks are written by her brother, A.B. Quintanilla. For those who don't know Selena, she started singing as a little girl with her brother playing the bass and her sister drums. And until her final CD, music remained a family tradition.
It is a shame that Selena is no longer with us. She was talented, she actually knew what music is and how it feels, she did not wear dead animals to feel important, she was the people's singer without being shallow and kitsch. She did the best quality of entertaining music - simple, beautiful, decent. She rose to be the first female tejano musician sending dynamism and power to female artists without stripping in every chance. Selena was not the 'Mexican Madonna'. She was far more talented and real.

Selena's Grammy-winning Live album is a sizzling reminder of her electric stage charisma and blossoming talent as a performer. The album's nine live tracks--recorded in February 1993 at the Coliseo Memorial in Selena's hometown of Corpus Christi--showcase the late singer's uncanny ability to infuse a love song with both girlish innocence and a heated sexuality. Particularly effective are extended versions of "Como La Flor," "Baila Esta Cumbia," and "La Carcacha." You can almost feel the heat seeping through your speakers. The album also includes three new studio tracks--"No Debes Jugar," "La Llamada," and the Emilio duet "Tu Robaste Mi Corazon"--which foreshadow Amor Prohibido, Selena's final Spanish-language album. --Joey GuerraCustomer Reviews:

A final masterpiece!.......2006-11-05
***** "No Me Queda Mas" Her final video in which Selena wears her now famous white beaded gown which she also wore to the Grammy awards earlier in the year (1994). A beautiful song with powerful vocals and lyrics. A very heartfelt and romantic ballad. One of the best songs Selena ever recorded. Because of the success of the album "Amor Prohibido" (which sold over 400,000 copies before her death) EMI - Latin / Captial records re-released the album and included a re-recorded version of "No Me Queda Mas".
*** "Cobarde" A true Tejano song! Telling it how it is when a man is cowardly.
***** "Fotos Y Recuerdos" A cover of The Pretenders classic hit "Back On The Chain Gang". Although it reached # 1 a week after her murder it was obvious that this would have been the follow up single to "No Me Queda Mas".
**** "El Chico Del Apartamento 512" A major hit on the charts with very funny and silly lyrics.
***** "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" The follow up single to "Amor Prohibido" which was actually penned by Selena. Original performed in 1993 in English for the concert "Selena Live" but did not appear on the album. This song was very popular with children because of the catchy chorus.
*** "Techno Cumbia" This song gained more attention when it was remixed and released in 1995 on the posthumous multi platinum album "Dreaming Of You" in which it appeared as a Reggae version.
*** Tus Desprecios" One of the only Tejano sounding songs on the album. A reminisce of classic Selena hits such as "Mentiras" and "Ven Conmigo".
**** "Si Una Vez" A very successful song and fan favorite. Mixing Mariachi and Cumbia all into one.
***** "Ya No" Although this song only briefly danced onto the Billboard Charts it is still a great song. It was remixed for the # 1 album "Siempre Selena".

A TESTAMENT TO SELENA'S DREAMS.......2003-04-29
Abraham Quantinilla, as we all know, is a brilliant man (and a brilliant sales-man), and when he put this record together he did so with great care. Along with such Selena classics as "Dreaming of You" and "I Could Fall In Love", he remastered and remixed some of her old tracks to make them more accessible to a new generation. With such firey songs as "Captive Heart" and "Techno Cumbia", he mixes in light hearted love songs such as "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" and "Missing My Baby". He covers Selena's entire heart-felt range from sugary love ballads, up-tempo cumbias, the classica, to tearful mariachi's, really showcasing Selena's vocal talent. One of the most striking tracks, "God's Child", is both haunting and melodic as Selena's searing vocals soar next to David Baird's enthusiastic guitar and gritty voice. While the new Spanglish version of "wherever you are" just seems to be clever re-packaging, it feels kind of empty knowing it was re-recorded without the help of Selena.
The vocal promise of this rising young star is completely visible in the record. It is both saddening and uplifting as the best track, the title track, hits the speakers. Although it's probably not intended to be, this is a bittersweet melody that is both light-hearted and tender...and one of Selena's best songs. This album is one of greatness, and should be owned by any true Selena fan.
