CD Magneto "Siempre".......2006-07-25
I loved this CD. There were a couple of the songs that I did not like but I loved the rest. Remember that you can listen to any of the tracks (30 Seconds worth) before you buy. Happy Shopping!!!
Always Magneto.......2004-04-01
Their last album together was a toast to their group. This underrated but fabulous Mexican pop boyband captivated America with its playful, innocent, full-roasted masculine sound. While several songs are remakes of other songs in English and French and Portuguese, Magneto's renditions brought a lively, wholesome sound and pop beat to otherwise lifeless songs. They are like A-ha, but have a very flirtatious masculine sound. This is one group that should have stayed together for posterity. The CD features some of their most popular songs in the Spanish-speaking Americas. This CD is a keeper. Although a remake from a French group, Magneto made "Vuela, Vuela" their own. It continues to be its trademark song.
A farewell disc from the great teen-idol band.......1999-01-05
Magneto probably was the best Latin teen idol band in the past 20 years. Like Menudo, it was a collection of young, good-looking guys who sang bubbly pop music. But Magneto's membership was pretty constant and the songs were solid, European-influenced pop. This disc was the group's last before splitting up, and it features some of the band's greatest hits and four new songs. It was a great, if bittersweet, way to say goodbye to one of the most popular bands of its time.

The Real Thing.......2006-08-12
Of the many great songs on this album, two stand out for me. "Don't Count" is ruthless, energetic, and damned if I don't know the girl it's about. "Torn," the band's signature song, covers ground that in less able hands could have (and has) ended up as bubble-gum pop; but listen to Anne perform the song and you know whose soul it really came from. There's nothing cute or polished about Ednaswap - you wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of "Clown Show," and "Shrapnel" is in high gear long before the first vocal kicks in. I'm at a loss to pick a genre - maybe a cross of heavy metal, grunge, and alternative? I can't figure out why this is so obscure...jxm
Early record by too-obscure L.A. band.......2003-05-26
Ednaswap is gone but not forgotten. Their biggest brush with commercial success was when Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia covered "Torn", a song from this CD that also had a different recording of it on an earlier self-titled Ednaswap CD.
Ednaswap's records feature clever songwriting with a pop/rock sensibility, powerful vocals by Anne Previn, and some very satisfying guitar work and production.
Tired of moaning about the sorry state of music today? If more bands like Ednaswap got the exposure and promotion that they deserve(d), then we'd have no worries.
Grab this CD if you can find it, and follow it up with their follow-up CD "Wonderland Park".
I don't have it.......yet.......2002-10-12
I frist heard Ednaswap on the Jawbreaker soundtrack, singing a song called "Next To You". I was blown away, the song was excellent, and the singers voice was so powerful. I looked up Ednaswap, and found out about their albums. I found a site that had a recording of Ednaswap at a radio station, they sang 5 songs, 4 from their CD "Wonderland Park" and their song "Torn" (later ripped off by Natalie Imbruglia). I love their version of "Torn" it's so much better then Natalie's. I absolutely NEED this album. I really think I'll love it!
Fine Release.......2000-10-12
Like some of the other reviewers, I first heard Anne Preven on the Howard Stern show. Her acoustic version of "Torn" is much better than Natalie Imbruglia's treatment. A little research and I find this Ednaswap release with the same tune included. This is fine music, an excellent alternative CD. "More", "Clown Show", "Shrapnel", "Claustrophobic", & "Sideways Out The Window" are top notch. Anne's voice is powerful, raw, & smokey...just fantastic. A one star hit from me for the vocal effects on a couple of tunes. Her voice is too good for that silliness.
BTW, the original version of "Torn" on this release is stellar. Open and close with some killer Jimi Hendrix flavored guitar riffs, throw some Mudhoney chording in the middle and top it off with Anne's edgey vocals and you've got a meaty, mini masterpiece. Ednaswap has another fan in me.
Better than Imbruglia.......2000-05-24
Absolutely do NOT buy this album simply because you liked the acoustic version of "Torn" played on the Howard Stern show--you will most likely be disappointed, as Ednaswap is an alternative band. The songs have a great sharp and clear quality with lots of depth. Listen to it a couple times and it will grow on you.

Product Description
When Brian Ray decided to record his first solo CD, he didn’t have to look far for a supporting cast. The award winning songwriter for Smokey Robinson, guitarist and musical director for Etta James, now on tour as guitarist and bassist with Paul McCartney simply asked some of his mentors and friends to help him out. When he asked the legendary blues singer Etta James if she would sing with him on the CD her answer was simple – and immediate – “I’ll do anything for Brian.” Not surprising considering the bond the two had developed over the years Brian had spent as her musical director and guitarist. “She’s family to me, really,” he explains. The rest of the players were a few more of his best friends – Scott Shriner from Weezer, Davey Faragher from Elvis Costello’s band, Abe Laboriel, Jr., Wix Wickens and Rusty Anderson from Paul McCartney’s band all appear on the album with Brian. The collaborators? Oliver Lieber, Adam Cohen, Tonio K. The resulting album, Mondo Magneto, is filled with fresh, stylish songs whose lyrics and catchy melodies stay with you long after your first listening. It’s a pop record that rocks and a rock record with pop radio sensibility. “What was really fun for me about making this album,” Brian explains, “was that every person involved came into the studio and brought their own personality to the sessions. And that shows on the CD.”
Customer Reviews:
Great Debut Album.......2006-11-02
To tell you the truth, I would've never even think of looking at this album if Brian Ray hadn't been in McCartney's band. I saw Paul McCartney's Red Square DVD and there was this blonde guy who rocked out hard during "Get Back". So I looke around I saw his album. I found it at a retail store about a week ago, and I really like it. It's fit for mainstream music but it's harder than thos crappy "Power Pop" stuff. So it fits really well with rockers, or soft rock players. I am a blues player, and so I was really enticed by the song "Soft Machine". It has Etta James singing and ad-libbing in it, and it just sounds so powerful with a bluesy touch to it! The first track "Good for Nothing" has a really laid back tune to it that's really easy to fall in love with, and Coming Up Roses contains great lyrics, and a great melody. There are 2 ballads in this album, one called "All I know" and the other is "If You're Leaving Me". I especially liked "If You're Leaving Me" because Brain's normal raspy rocker voice comes down to a really soft tone. He really knows how to sing and can belt out notes just as good as McCartney. This was a surprisingly good album. Everybody should check this out, it's much better than "The Click Five" or "American Rejects" which claims to be "rock" but it's really just crap pop. Check this album out, you won't be sorry.
Brian Ray's first solo album is fantastic!.......2006-04-01
This is a great CD. It's been on my mp3 player constantly since it came out and I never get tired of it. I love the booklet with the lyrics, and the artwork is so cool - with a very retro feel. Brian Ray is a great guitarist and his guitar work truely shines on this album. Brian's lyrics range from personal, to smart, to fun, to funny! Overall, Mondo Magneto is a ton of fun. It's one of those albums where you can find something new every time you play it and it just keeps getting better and better.
Mondo Magneto.......2006-03-12
Brian Ray (Paul McCartney's rhythm guitar/bass player) has given us a very good first effort. He has a sense of humor which produces interesting twists ("I Liked You Better" - my favorite song on the album). He is an outstanding guitarist and an excellent song writer. His songs rock! He has a nice singing voice but can be a bit "breathy" at times. Definitely worth listening to...
Lots of fun.......2005-12-29
I found this album to be fun to listen to from the first playing. There is a throw-back sort of sound to it, and though of a different style, the clever twists of phrase built into the lyrics reminded me a bit of Tom Petty. And the guitar is great, as expected from a musician of this level. (Includes great drumming throughout as well.)
Stand outs for me included:
"I liked you better" (who hasn't sobered up and then wondered how they were ever attracted to someone the night before?)
"Going down swingin' " : this one is a lot of fun, about a `bad to the bone' couple, who live hard and fast --in the great traditions of hard rock, with maybe a touch of rockin' redneck thrown in...
"Soft machine" : I assume that this is a reference to the book of the same title(?) by one of the Beats. Etta swirls her earthy sexy magic around this and raises it to another level. Great blend of voices.
"Anywhere but home" This is my personal favorite -- again, who hasn't just wanted to take off and run away from all of the tangled relationships that sometimes go hand in hand with "home"?
One note: another review spoke of the song "Coming up roses" and seems to have missed the point -- the prince is obviously George W. and it's a political satire.
Overall, a really good listen that bears a lot of repeat play very, very well!
POWER POP HOOKS ROCK THIS RECORD.......2005-12-17
Brian Ray's solo debut finds him teaming up with many well-known musicians like legendary blues singer Etta James, Scott Shriner (Weezer), Davey Faragher (Elvis Costello), Rusty Anderson (Paul McCartney), and many more. Taking time away from his other endeavors like writing songs for Smokey Robinson and playing guitar with Etta James and Paul McCartney, Brian Ray set off to write his own compelling solo album. Not exactly the pop-rock masterpiece people are gushing about here. It is certainly a good record that you'll forget about once out of your rotation. Decent production that shows off an ability to find the hooks that mainstream radio is looking for right now.
A solid effort that's very forgetable

Important Re-Issue.......2006-11-29
What a great blessing it is to finally have this album (along with another of Hermeto Pascoal's albums of the same period, Zabumbe-bum-a)in print once again! The compositions and playing are fantastic, and the arrangements are as creative as one would expect from this great musician. Fans of other Hermeto Pascoal albums will not be disappointed with this one.
I like the mini-lp packaging too. It looks pretty much like the original record, only much smaller, of course. The only disadvantage is that some of the writing is almost too tiny to read. I wish they had included a fold out insert with the liner notes in larger type.

A Great Greatest Hits CD.......2002-07-18
A CD worth having. Any Magneto fan will be pleased at having this in their collection. It was great to see the classic line up of Magneto back together for another CD. Not only does it have some of their biggest hits, but it also includes a brand new song, and a new version of Vuela, Vuela, not to mention a special Magneto mix of several songs.
Disappointing reunion from the legendary teen-idol band.......2001-04-23
After disbanding with the release of "Siempre," "X-Magneto" marks the first recordings of the now-reformed teen-idol group. It features the band's classic lineup: Alan, Alex, Mauri, Elias and Charly. But most of this disc consists of the original recordings of the group's greatest hits, which already are available on other CDs. And of the two new songs, one is a remake of "Vuela Vuela," which is hardly imaginative or original. And lead singer Alan's voice doesn't sound anywhere as strong or potent as it used to -- perhaps part of that has to do with the fact that he's seen smoking in the booklet, so maybe taking care of his voice is not a priority for him. This could have been really special; instead, it's a disappointment.

The end of an era.......1999-01-05
The last disc to feature the classic lineup that made Magneto famous (Alan, Alex, Charlie, Elias and Mauri), this album features explorations into salsa and harder-rock sounds. Surprisingly, the album's biggest hit was probably its weakest track, a Spanish version of the old Archies' hit "Sugar Sugar." Still, it's a great reminder of a smashing time in Latin pop music.
