Cantan Corridos - Sparx.......2001-07-14

As usual, Sparx was outstanding with this CD, however, I think if they were to make another one selecting more tradional and well-known corridos, they would strike gold. In "Cantan Corridos", their voices were 5-star, the accompaniment was 5-Star, the corrido selection was 4-Star. A good example for them would be Linda Ronstadt's "Canciones de Mi Padre". Sparx has the talent to make ANYTHING sound good and their renditions of some of the older, better known corridos would be much appreciated.

I first heard the group now called Sparx, in 1976 at the now non existant Civic Autitorium. They were awesome then as very young girls. I still remember the proud look on their father's face when he introduced by name. They are truly a treasure and a credit to our community.

They make their songs come alive with their vibrant touch which has me listening to them over and over, again.

A Louisiana Boy Gets A Taste Of Mexico.......2005-03-01

I have absolutely no idea what these guys are singing about on their songs. All I know is that it sounds really cool, especially the accordian work. I picked this CD up in a bargain bin and decided it would be my introduction to Mexican music. Living close to the Texas border, I often catch the Mexican stations out of Houston on the radio. Late at night, I can hear Mexican music all over the AM dial. It has always interested me, but I was always leary of buying a CD of music by groups that I have no real knowledge about.

This band, with matching outfits that would send Porter Wagoner into fits, seems to be pretty good. I'll be honest and say that I haven't the slightest idea of how traditional they are. The little bit of Spanish that I learned(or remember) from college doesn't help me out much with the lyrics, but the music is very good. The only problem I find is the constant drum rolls. They can be annoying at times.

I really can't recommend this to anyone because I don't have anything to compare it to in my musical background. I'll just say that I really enjoy it and if you dare, take a chance on it. If nothing else, you may find that you enjoy this music as much as I do.
