Toda Cuba Baila con NG la Banda

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
NG La Banda (pronounced Ah-nae-he) is short hand for Nueva Generacion La Banda, a group that emerged in Havana in the late '80s organized by former members of Irakere (such as reedmen Jose Luis Cortes and Carlos Averhoff), Ritmo Oriental, and the band of the late pianist Emiliano Salvador. (As a bonus singer Issac Delgado, since a star in his own right, can be heard in several tracks here.) Not surprisingly then the writing has a strong jazz influence but over a solid dance music foundation. This album, part of the Toda Cuba Baila series that also includes releases by Irakere and Los Van Van, is a sample of the bands sophisticated but muscular dance music. Check the brash, brassy salsa sound as in "Necesito Una Amiga," the irresistible "Los Sitios Entero," the Brazilian flavored "Songo Blue," or the Afro-Cuban religious music rooted "Elegua Soyu" and "Yemanya Asesu." This is dance music worth a closer listening. --Fernando Gonzalez

1 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy This CD From Amazon.......2004-05-04

I ordered this CD from amazon on March 5, 2004 with an estimated delivery date of 2 to 4 weeks. Today is May 4 and their "where's my stuff" shows this item still not shipped and an anticipated delivery date between May 9 and May 17. Oddly, the site listing the information for the CD says "ships between 3 and 5 weeks". I would suggest that if you are interested in this CD that you buy it elsewhere that the vendor does NOT post misleading information as to availability.

Just my two cents

    5 out of 5 stars A must have!!.......2001-12-10

For the serious NG La Banda fan, this CD is a must have. This contains some of their best work from their very early period, including some of their terrific jazzy compositions and arrangements prior to officially becoming NG La Banda, when they were known as Nueva Generacion or Todas Estrellas. Cuts 5-12 are very difficult to find anywhere else on CD, and that alone makes this disc a must. This also contains the very rare and hard to find "Que Viva Chango." Although it is a shortened version of this terrific song, it still smokes. Ataca Chincho!!

5 out of 5 stars EXCITING NEW CUBAN MUSIC.......2001-01-06

NG la Banda is the most popular salsa group in cuba today. Here you can get great brass arragments played faster you can imagine. It's a good mixture of tradition and new music. You have a group of very talented musicians played unbelievable dance music, and also a great and younger son singer who reminds you that you have to keep you ears near to Cuba.
