this cd is excellent, i like yousuf's song, "do you mind if i play" the most, i really love it and can't seem to get enough.
r.martin is pretty cool too, all the songs in this cd are diffrent and yet relate to soccer, so if you like soccer, this cd is for you, and even if you don't like soccer, if you appreciate good music, listen to this cd.

This CD is brilliant.
I also recently heard about one which is raising money for charity, which I heard on the radio. It really is one of the best football anthems I have come across - keep an ear out for it, because it will be big.
It is by Dexter and called "New World Cup" and all profits are going to Sport Relief! Apparently it has a UK website too.

A great mix of music........2001-09-02

This is an interesting CD. The collection of music from all over the planet means that there is probably something that anybody would like on it. Some of the songs are just good... there's also some really great ones. My favorites? Probably "Don't Come Home Too Soon" (Del Amitri), "Do You Mind If I Play" (Youssef N'Dour and Axelle Red), "Oh Eh" (Gipsy Kings) and "Hot Legs" (MATCH), the latter being simply hysterical. Of course, picking my favorites from here is really tough, because almost all of them are good.

Even my friends who don't like futbol like this CD....Its lively and fun and has some great variety. Only 1 or 2 songs that make you wonder why they're with the rest. Don't be fooled into thinking this CD is Ricky... he's only one song...Most of the other songs are even better than Ricky Martin's -because we're listening to the music, not looking at him. The African songs are especially good. There's even some humour (Hot Legs). If you don't like it at first - give it a few listens... it'll grow on you soon enough. Can't wait to see what they put together for 2002!

Maybe this CD is underrated among Mongo Santamaria's body of work, but it's worth looking for.......2006-03-24

I've been a big fan of Mongo Santamaria's for many years and have a number of his sides on vinyl, tape and CD. I bought Ole Ola in vinyl and have since replaced it with the CD and it's always been part of my steady playlist.

The whole album is very, very good, but my favorite tune is a composition by Ray Vega called "Now is Forever," which features a sublime Flugelhorn solo by Mr. Vega, intro'd by another very fine piano solo by Bob Quaranta. Quaranta's left hand chording adds a spacey, dreamy quality to his part as he works the melody. And make sure to listen closely to Bernie Minoso's heartbeat bass on this one, too. It adds a huge amount of soul to this somewhat minimalist, yet very beautiful and haunting number.

The band is one that you're probably familar with if you saw them perform or collected the recordings in the mid to late 80s: Mongo, front and center on congas, Johnny Almendra Andreu, timbales and percussion, Nengue Hernandez, percussion, Minoso, bass, Quaranta, piano, Vega, trumpet and flugelhorn, Bobby Porcelli, saxes and flute, Mitch Frohman, saxes and flute, Marty Sheller, conductor. This is a great group of musicians, that played with real passion and it comes out in every tune.

Quaranta's "El Campesino" is terrific as is Mitch Frohman's "Jeanie's Tune." And don't overlook the Afro-Cuban style tune featuring Mongo himself, "La Tumba."

I've just covered a few personal favorites, but the whole album is something you'll like from beginning to end. 5 stars.
