I first heard this around 1995... DiBlasio has amazing talent and though I could never quite get into piano music, this one is a must have! It ranges from wonderful mood pieces to very danceable latin rhythms. Delicado / Tico Tico is my favorite track on this one... I'd buy it just for that one song! :)

A piano virtuoso with no international competition........1998-11-16

This was the first Di Blasio album I bought, and even that was on a whim because I knew nothing about him. However, it sparked my desire to own every album he's made. The man can put more emotion and fire into his music than any pianist I've come in contact with in a long time. This is a fantastic album for anyone wanting to know what he's all about.

Para mí es el mejor album de Eddie. El tumbao del piano es magnífico. Aporrea el piano con guante de seda, es una contradicción pero es así. A destacar dos versiones, "Malagueña salerosa" y "Ne me quites pas". No puede faltar en una salsoteca que se precie.

I run in a small circle of salseros puros from many different generations. Ask any of them and they will tell you that Eddie Palmieri is the best. I can't forget Papo Luca, but that's a different review. You can't beat the old school classic salsa. That's plain and simple. But everything in context.
At the time this album came out, circa 1998, it was a breath of fresh air for all of us salsa aficionados. Musicians, dancers, aficionados alike. This album pays tribute to many roots of música latina. Not only the bomba and plena from Puerto Rico, but see also Malagueña Salerosa (previously of Los Panchos).
For everything this album is; arrangements, lyrical content, vocal guests, and, of course, Eddie; this is one of my all time favorite ablums in my collection - all genres included.
His best all time album? I don't know.
His best current album? Definitely.

Eddie may never again achieve the pinnacle he attained in his days with Barry Rogers; nonetheless, this album is likely to please his fans. It certainly did this one. I think a notable point in the album is with the very first cut, Sube. After a rather pedestrian introduction, so typical of what passes for Salsa today, the orchestra is temporarily suspended while a piano montuno builds tension, signaling the transition to vintage New York Latin music. For the rest of the number, the veteran Salsa aficionado is on familiar ground and all is once more well with the Latin music scene.

Eddie's triumphant return to "Salsa Dura"........2003-09-22

This is Eddie's first salsa CD since 1987's "The Truth/ La Verdad" and it is chock-full of swinging, searing-hot salsa and Latin jazz. How refreshing to find a CD like this one at a time when salsa romantica rules. This is what real salsa music is all about.

Timbale class 101.......2003-04-28

I'm African American from LA. I'm also a timbalero. I've spent some time New York in my life (Bronx, Brooklyn ). This album is must for percussionist and lovers of "Jazz Latino" and yes it's a staple for my collection. I practice to all numbers on this album and come off confident to play any gig!! What's unique is that Eddie pays homage to the sounds of the Bomba y Plena a dance found in Puerto Rico among Black Puerto Ricans(Cubans as well) I saw this in the pueblo called Loiza, Puerto Rico wile visting some friends. Eddie keeps it real. The brass and rythms sections are infectious as well as his piano playng!!. Heavenly.......2000-06-10

The first time I heard Enrique Chia play was while I was furniture brousing in a fine store. I would not leave till I knew the source of their beautiful background music. Since that time I have purchased 10 of Maestro Chia's CDs. Personally, I believe that World Favorite Piano Vol 1 & 2 are the best, but all his CDs are wonderful that you will fall in love virtually all his selections and probably be moved to tears by a few!

Whatever my mood, however bad the day, regardless of what problem may be on my mind, Enrique Chia breaks the negative and fills my heart with joy and consolation. Listening to him play is an emotional and spiritual experience as well as an audio one.

Volumes 1 & 2 are an excellent introduction to this master of the piano.

This is my favorite recording by Enrique Chia by far. The rhythm will have you swaying and dancing even if you don't know how...There is no way you can resist moving to the music.

Selections from this CD were used in a warm-up as part of a dance workshop in San Jose, CA. The melodies were fantastic in keeping a high-energy output throughout. I recommend this CD to everyone that loves a great Latin beat to move with.

Great gift idea...........2007-05-07

This is one of my favorite inspirational albums. I have used it as a gift(sometimes in lieu of flowers) especially when a loved one has passed on because of the comforting words that go through our minds when we listen to familiar hymns. Enrique Chia is one of my favorite artists. I also recommend the two albums of Agustin Lara's music. Chia captures the poetry of Lara's lyrics and even some of Lara's style in interpreting the selections. I am not a musician, but I know what I like. That's why I have 20+ Chia albums.!

Only 5 stars???? Deserves a whole lot more!.......2006-09-01

Mr. Chia states on the inside of his CD "I would like to thank the Lord for the gift of music." We, too, thank the Lord and Mr. Chia for the incredible, uplifting and just plain beautiful musical interpretations he has provided for us. His arrangements are fantastic. My mother will be 90 on Dec. 1, 2006 and was raised in the country until her marriage, so, many, many of the songs in this album were what she grew up with in her little country church. Two years ago she had several severe strokes which affected her speech & comprehension centers. Yet, listening to this album, she wiped the tears from her eyes more than once, saying "beautiful, beautiful" Mr. Chia invites everyone to "sing along" and provides the words to each of the songs he plays in English and Spanish. Don't pass this one up!

Inspirational.......2001-05-14

I have about 25 of Enrique's albums but this one brings me to tears everytime I listen to it. What a wonderful way to thank God for the talent he has given you - to be able to express it with this beautiful inspirational music. I have already purchased five more of these because my family and friends have listened to it and loved it, so now they have one to enjoy. I hope he follows this with more. His music is truly a gift.
