BREATHTAKING & GORGEOUS.......2006-07-18

One of my favorite CDs-a truly amazing talent & voice-as good as it gets-this CD is soooooo GOOD-a MASTERPIECE-thank GOD for Olga Tanon-I love you!!

A new path for Olga.......2002-05-15

Nuevos Senderos was Olga's first non-Merengue CD. The songs are a lot slower than what she usually does and they seem to fall under the Grupero category on this CD. "Me Subes, Me Bajas, Me Subes" is probably the most popular and upbeat track. Most of the songs were written by Marco Antonio Solis. Olga's voice is very clear and gorgeous. Even though it's not her best release, it's still quite good.

Not for Newer Fans.......1999-12-14

Olga Tanon's "Nuevos Senderos" is a great CD for old Olga fans, seeing the way they react to it. But I am a newer Olga fan, and "Nuevos" really didn't get me that excited. I have four Olga CDs, most of them upbeat, and this CD kinda turned me off. The only songs that I almost always repeat are "Cuestion de Suerte", "En Ti", and sometimes "Basta Ya!". I like the live version of "Me Subes, Me Bajas, Me Subes" much better than this version, it seems slower. All in all, a good CD, but better get more experienced with Olga Tanon before delving into her more experimental works. :-)

From Meringue to Magnificent !!!.......1999-04-24

Nuevos Senderos was Olga Tanon's breather from her regular "Queen of the Meringue" status. The songs were artistically written and well produced by Marco Antonio Solis from Los Bukis fame. For fans who are expecting a fast-paced meringue workout, this album is not it. Instead, you get well-crafted and very beautiful, romantic boleros, ballads, and maybe a few cumbias. From start to finish of entire c.d., vocals and instrumentation are magnificent ! You can feel the passion and emotion that Olga put into this project along with Solis; She can really belt out with her voice on these ballads ! This c.d. is highly recommended. Do not dismiss it simply because you might think it's too slow- paced--there are plenty of surprises that may change the way you think about Latin boleros, cumbias and ballads with this one!!!...

Great Intro to Today's Hottest Latin Acts.......2002-10-14

A solid compilation of recent Latin Grammy nominees - the 3rd release in as many years - this album is a terrific way to "test drive" the myriad sounds and styles of the broad category that IS Latin Music. While language unifies these songs - all sung in Spanish or Portugese - stylistically, they represent everything from salsa to vallenato, from samba to rock. To be sure, many of the undercurrent themes are borrowed from the latino-songwriting triad of topics...love, laughter and drama...but the sounds themselves are unique and a fun, practical way to catch up with the current latin-music craze.

Among the Award winners here are the inimitable Celia Cruz, who enjoyed an out of the box merengue-hip-hop hit with "La Negra Tiene Tumbao," Alejandro Sanz' Record of the Year "Y Solo Se me Occure Amarte" - a lush, sweeping whispered ballad - and the world-wide sensation Shakira's Video of the Year "Suerte." Top efforts from Miguel Bose ("Morenamia"), Marc Anthony (the brilliant, multi-layered "Celos") and "Me Libere" from el Gran Combo (THE original salsa superstars) which add fresh dimensions showcasing the broad expanse Latin Music across the borders, oceans and political climates.

While several tracks on the 17-song set sound sappy alongside Celia and Anthony, the set deserves to succeed for sampling the myriad styles, voices and rhythms emanating from Spain and the rest of the Spanish speaking universe. EVEN BETTER - it includes defining moments from two of today's finest Latin musicians, who both happen to be from Colombia (birth home to Shakira as well.

Juanes' "A Dios Le Pido" - which he performed with Nelly Furtado on the recent awards show - is bottled recorded joy, plain and simple - a refreshing, literate and immediately likeable piece of Latin-rock at its best. Mana - as great as they are - ought to start looking over their shoulder, because Juanes is poised to become THE Latin rock artist of our first 21st century decade.

Finally, Carlos Vives shows off his unique vellenato sound on "Dejame Entrar" from the like-titled album, winner of 2 Latin Grammys this year. Although the track isn't even the strongest entry from the superb "Entrar" album ("Carito" - a bilingual epic for the ages gets the nod!), the song "Entrar" will put a smile on your face. It's fun, gorgeously arranged and sung to perfection. To be sure Spanish speakers will be extra-inspired by an imaginative chorus, and verses that speak to the grit, grime and grandeur of unconditional love. But - anyone with a pulse will be shaking their shoulders within 10 seconds! As on "Fruta Fresca" - the artist's last hit song -- Vives again proves that there's plenty of room at the table for songwriters who deliver innovative lyrics, catchy hooks and consciousness-raising themes. Give this a listen before running to buy the "Dejame Entrar" album, and you'll hear a startling assortment of songs that testify to Vives' unique sound and natural talents. He is a superstar in the making who makes an indelible impression on the very first listen...and sounds even better after the 50th!

The set is worth it's weight - kudos to NARAS and the labels for supporting "nuestra musica!"

While some songs sparkle others fizzle...........2004-06-10

I hadn't really heard Olga before I received this album as a gift. All I knew was that she was a huge hit in Puerto Rico as well as the international scene. I wasn't sure what to expect. Unfortunately, this is one of the more uneven CDs of "Musica Latina" that I have in my collection.

Though, Olga Tañón has a powerful voice and she definitely isn't shy about belting it out, there are times where a little goes a LONG way! On some of the tracks, I wanted to yell "Ya! Basta!" (Enough, already!) When she tries to be expressive it almost comes out as hollow as a cat screaming on a hot tin roof. ("Cómo Pude Haber Vivido Sin Ti," "Diálogo Mudo," "Voy a Sacarte De Mi Mente") Other tracks are catchy mostly because of the arrangements and the catchy fusion of merengue and latin pop ("Tu Amor," "Hielo y Fuego"). This album is not for all tastes and is, in my opinion, far too poppy! I prefer music with more "sabor" (the sound of the timbales, the heartbeat of the drum, son montuno, salsa) to the canned sound of more Anglo rhythms. This is not for all tastes. Sorry, Olga!

Unusual Olga.......2003-11-11

This is probably the oddest of Olga Tanon's albums. It is basically a pop album with a big layer of Spanish sensibilility layered on. Overall I find it a bit overstylized and over earnest, even hoaky, at times. It couldn't be more different than her previous album Llevame Contigo, or, for that matter, her following one, Yo Por Ti.

The best songs are the three by Kike Santander: Tu Amor, Hielo y Fuego, and one real gem--Un Hombre y Una Mujer.

REVEALING & RIVETING.......2003-03-26

If you are an OLGA fan, this CD is a must. OLGA is at her finest, revealing herself better than ever before. The production is superb and the lyrics are stellar. She has done exemplary work here. Definately one of her strongest recordings to date.

Adequate.......2002-03-30

I bought this on the strength of Tu Amor. Unfortunately that is the only song holding this album's head above water, and it's not enough. The rest is pure filler, ranging from badly written ballads about love, to other badly written ballads about love--topped off with a bizzare rendition of King Of Wishful Thinking, a hokey '80s song which spanish manages to make even hokier.

Olga can do anything..........2001-05-24

Known for her merengue, Olga proves with this pop CD that she can succeed in any musical style. There are twelve songs on here that alternate between more danceable numbers and ballads. The opening track, "Tu Amor" has a driving flamenco beat, and is the definite standout. Her voice is beautiful, and her style is hard to resist. This is truly one of the best Latin-pop CD's I own and would recommend.

Frankie's best album so far.......2003-04-25

It has taken me a surprisingly long time to really like this album, but I have gradually inched up my rating with repeated listenings.

The material is somewhat variable on this album, ranging from very very good to somewhat awkward in arrangement, to one really bad song.

It seems the better the song, the better is Frankie's singing.
Four of the salsas, all arranged by R. Sanchez, are extremely good, and Frankie is a great singer here. These are Remolino, Enamerando de Ti,(this will be a classic), Desesperadamente, and Amarte Asi. I especially like the terrific background singers. The arrangements are very modern and cutting edge.

Desde que Fuiste, is another good one, even if the arrangement is slightly awkward at times. Que Ironia de la vida and Por Ti have a lot to like, but the arrangements could be a little more smooth. Recordando a mi Papa is a lovely song, and Frankie sings it very well. I can't help but imagine Marc Anthony, who Frankie is often compared to, singing this one even better tho.

The ballad version of Enamerando de Ti is quite nice.

The one dud is No me Arrepiento. THis is a bad song! That must be the reason that Frankie sounds so strained. At one point, it actually sounds like his voice is about to break.

I have raised my rating of Lo Que llevo por dentro from 2 to 3 to 4 stars! The best songs I would rate 5 stars. This album is a major advance over his first two albums, and better than Por tu Placer, which I find much less sophisticated.

Not as versatile as Marc Anthony, or as perfect in voice, Frankie sounds best in a song which is carefully tailored to range and style. At his best, Frankie Negron is a very appealing singer.

Frankie Negron is the real deal........2003-02-05

The trend in pop music today is that "Hispanic" music is "in." But too often what passes as "in" is mere pop music--in Spanish. Ricky Martin, Shakira, and Paulina Rubio are typical of this bland trend. But Frankie Negron is the real deal. His brand of Salsa is alive and pure. The sound is both original and classic, but never dowdy or boring. Frankie Negron is not a "back to the roots" type artist; he honors the pure Salsa sound by doing it right. This album will appeal both to purists and teenagers alike. Frankie is the real deal. Ricky Martin is to Frankie Negron what the Monkees were to the Beatles.

Lo Que Llevo Por Dentro.......2001-11-05

This CD has great energy and passion. By the end of the second song I often find myself shouting things like : "sing it Frankie!!" What a great talent this man is!

NY Salsero with Added PR Flavor.......2001-09-19

It's a descent salsa album. If you are a salsero from PR or NY you can tell without reading the liner notes which songs were recorded where. He proved how a mixture of NY salsa and PR salsa make an album worth listening to.

One of her greatest Cd's available. I bought this cd cause it's really hard to find it in stores now days. I really got to know Olga Tanon when this cd came out and the single "es mentiroso" was dedicated to all the men out there. Truely a great cd for the price. LOVED IT!!!! Highly Recommended.

BELLA!! FEEL THE LOVE!!!.......2004-07-31

"Siente El Amor" is one of my favorite merengue cds. This was her best. The songs were full of life and passion. The vocals, unreal. Every song on here is a winner. Olga, the beautiful Puerto Rican Diva raised the bar in 1994 with this release!

One of Olga's Best.......2003-06-05

Siente el amor begins with one of the most warmest, most ingratiating merengues you will ever hear. "Receta del Amor" is a song of a woman telling her child what love is all about. There is such a wonderful and positive vibe about this song; it breathes such a sunny positive energy, you can't help but smile. I The Manuel Tejada arrangement is perfect, (a simply wonderful saxophone line and magical keyboards) as is Olga's singing. I really really love this song--it is one I will probably always go back to whenever I feel sad.

The next song, Una Noche Mas is another real winner. The great Manuel Tejada arrangement is a real "hook", just a great song. The rest of the album is nearly as good with some real great merengues, perhaps a couple that are less so.

Whatever the song, Olga is among the best there is, it is no surprise she is called "la reine del merengue." She has a dark, rich voice, reminiscent of Gloria, but fuller and more developed. She can be agressive or peaceful in her delivery, but there is always that feeling of understatement which is quite sophisticated.

This album has plenty of her trademark "Owwwww..!"'s. i love it, tho it is perhaps a bit overdone.

Siente el Amor is Olga's third album, released in 1994,and it still stands up as one of her best. It is the first of her albums to represent her full maturity as a singer. I recommend anyone to go back and take a look.

The Voice vs The Beat.......2005-02-04

This was my first CD by this remarkable woman. Not since Nancy Ames & Vikki Carr have I been so taken with a voice. I was not disappointed with the singing but with the material involved here.
The problem becomes obvious when you listen to the two best tracks; "Llego El Amour" and "Que Bailen Los Ninos". On these two cuts the vocalist is showcased, as it should be. The songs allow her to shine, complimenting the music. Listening to the rest of the cd, I was overwhelmed by the frantic pace and similarity of each cut. Horns/Trumpets blared, track after track and after a few songs they all sounded like the cut before. What this album needs is perhaps a new producer to put some originality into each song and let the artist take center stage.

Olga's best, and one of the great merengue albums. .......2003-06-30

Those who only familiar with Olga's Tanon 2 releases since the beginning of the century may not recognize her in her older albums. Starting with the girlish tones of Sola And Mujer de Fuego, Olga evolved into a mature sophisticated merengue singer.

Nowhere is this more evident than in Llevame Contigo. It is not only her best album, but qualifies as a merengue classic. It is certainly a major effort: there are 14 songs, and the CD lasts over an hour, which is highly unusual. Every song is memborable, with wonderful arrangements by the likes of Tejada and Querol. The background singing adds much to the quality of each song.

The album starts off with the wonderful Despierte Corazon, and just continues on with one great merengue after another. Yes, There is a similarity to the songs, especially in the first half, but rather than coming across as repetitive, they all fit together into a beautiful coherent whole. I particularly love the final "Siempre en mi corazon": such a warm and heartfelt song, that always brings a smile to my face.

This album is so thoroughly infectious from beginning to end, that it is still among the top 5 or so merengue albums I keep coming back to for many repeat listenings.

Olga has never sung better than in this album. I loved her in "Siente El Amor," but in Llevame Contigo, her voice has matured into total perfection. She is absolutely outstanding, singing with great authority, maturity and impact. She is just as good a singer today, but most of her material does not take advantage of it. All you have to do is listen to this album to understand why.

You definitely do not know Olga Tanon until you have heard Llevame Contigo. Her older style (it changed dramatically with 2001's Yo Por Ti) is more pure and in some ways more substantial than her recent work, altough much of that is very good as well.

Llevame Contigo is an album that will be listened to for many years, as new people come to appreciate the great Olga Tanon.

Delivers the goods but missing the "speed"..........1998-10-07

Olga Tanon's newest CD is full of excellent, hip moving merengue songs that will leave you with a beat on your feet all day. Although the CD lacks the faster merengue songs that she does so very well; ala "Es Mentiroso" (He's A Liar) and "Que Se Vaya" (May He leave), it still has the magic that she is known for. This CD has many songs that can top the charts. I especially like "Serpiente Mala" (Evil Snake). Ladies, aren't a lot of men like that? I recommend this CD with a four star rating. Good, hot merengue rythms but needs the speed that she is known for. OLGA ESTA CALIENTE!!!

Romantic merengue by Tono-.......2002-07-04

Este album esta lleno de baladas en merengue y arreglos musicales de alta calidad. Me gusta todo de este disco porque tiene un "no se que" que puede llamar la atencion de cualquiera que es amante del merengue romantico y por supuesto fanatico de Tono Rosario. "Quiero volver a empezar" es un nuevo comienzo para Tono. El album empieza con una cancion muy alentadora y cualquier persona puede indentificarse con la letra porque la vida siempre nos toma desprevenidos y nos trae cosas buenas y cosas malas. Las otras canciones tambien nos ofrecen mucha alegria con buena letra. El album sirve para bailar o escuchar como quieras pero una vez que lo escuches o lo compres vas a entender claramente que el disco es un tesoro musical. Mis favoritas son: "Quiero volver a empezar", "Enamorado", "No me hablen de ella", "Siempre estoy pensando en ella", "Que sabe nadie" y lo mejor de lo mejor Lo voy a dividir". Es un disco muy especial de nuestro cuquito del alma.

I've just got to say that this album is great. Toño really got this album off on the right track with the title track "Volver a Empezar". This song came out perfectly. It has perfect music arrangements and his voice is wonderful. All the tracks in this album are very good with great lyrics and even better music. Most tracks are remakes of ballads and the transition to merengue are of good quality and the voices are wonderful. I always have a great time listening to this album and I love it. Toño couldn't have picked a better timing to do the song "Estupida" because of his situation with his wife Ivette. This came by coincidence, but the timing was perfect for him to get back at her for their failed marriege. Anyway, this album is a must because it is a complete wotk of good music all around. I just wish that Toño gets back to making music this good.
