1 out of 5 stars How Is It Getting 5 Stars?.......2006-06-18

I'm not one to give many albums a 1 star. I can usually find some things I liked about it. I couldn't find enough on this album. I listened to it, expecting a fun record, following in the trend of 'Hey Driver'...geez was I wrong. The album offers nothing. It has that one song I just mentioned, which I should've just listened to on repeat for the time I used listening to the whole CD. I would've actually enjoyed it. I came extremely close to throwing this album out the window after I heard it all the way through. Worst song on here though is probably Mr. Wilimington. I've tried listeneing through the whole song many times, and it never seems to work. I always turn it off because it drives me nuts. The singing, I wasn't expecting anything good, just enough to work with the music, so bad vocals didn't really bother me. The music was terrible. Dare I compare them to The High Speed Scene for producing the worst album I've ever heard? I don't think I'd go that far, but it was pretty close. Do not waste your money or, more importantly, your time.

3 out of 5 stars congrats.......2006-02-11

the three stars is only for the band and not the cd. i lovED lbc before this cd. now only one word really sticks out, hypocrites. congrats to the bossman, might as well be on trl.

5 out of 5 stars THIS IS AWESOME.......2005-12-12

This is definately a great CD and a great band for anyone who likes those rock bands, but they do mix in elements of all the types of music out there, so almost anyone should like at least one of these songs.

I definately believe that if they really wanted to, LBC could become just as popular as any of those other bands out there, but because they do not stray from their topic of real life and life in their area, they just can't reach all auidiences, but those they do reach should praise them.

All the songs on this album are good, with favorites being Mr. Wilmington, Atari, Sunday Afternoon, South Union, and Ordinary. The bonus track is also good, being an extention of the first opening track, Champions Dub (you notice the same chorus in the songs, and a very similar rhythm)

With good music and great songs, I hope to see more albums by these guys, they RULE

5 out of 5 stars Great CD by a Great Band.......2005-10-24

This is an excellent cd by Lucky Boys Confusion. They are a truly unique group that mixes it up and comes up with such great songs. Recommended listening: all of it.

5 out of 5 stars Lucky boys confusion - commitment.......2005-10-23

Its not often that I give something in the pop-rock catagory a 5 star review, but "commitment" is more than worthy. Don't get me wrong, I like pop-rock, but it hasn't always been known for it's originality.

LBC's commitment isn't groundbreaking musically, but the hooks and melodies are what make this record so good. Each song has a strong sound, and none of them sound too similar to the next. For example, "sunday afternoon", "Atari" and "champion" are all at the opposite ends of pop-rock music, yet they don't sound out of place on the same record, written by the same band. Hint's of third-wave ska, reggae and punk can all be heard on "commitment", but they're all brought together by a strong pop sensible sound.

If bands like mest and fall out boy can become popular, than so can LBC. I bought this record early in 2005, and it still gets played to this day. usually when a band puts 15 songs on a record, things can get stale; but not with LBC's commitment. If you like the stuff coming outta chigaco these days, you should make yourself familar with LBC.

I. Champions dub...intro n/a
II. Hey driver...good first song, features aj popoff from Lit 4/5
III. Broken...(no comment) 4/5
IV. Mr. Wilmington...deep song about suicide sung in pop form. gotta love it 5/5
V. Beware...the closest thing to "pop-punk" on this record. very catchy, and wouldn't sound out of place on a dance-rock record 5/5
VI. Commitment...(no comment) 3/5
VII. Atari...a little formulaic sounding, but good 3/5
VIII. Sunday afternoon...A reggae, hip-hop style song. good ish 4/5
IX. Closer to our graves...morbid, but catchy. LBC can do songs like that 4/5
X. Something to believe...song about religion, or not having any, i guess 4/5
XI. You weren't there...(no comment) 3/5
XII. Blame...this song can get you pumped like no other on the record 5/5
XIII. South union...short and sweet acoustic song 4/5
XIV. Ordinary...(no comment) 4/5
XV. Medicine and gasoline...great closer, lots of energy 5/5
[HIDDEN TRACK I]...another reggae song, pretty okay 3.5/5

It would be very easy to give this record a 4, because that is what most of the songs average, but because this record never seems to get old, that makes it a 5. Get it today if you like pop-rock.

Many of the songs are orginal. The message is one of overcoming. Hillary has carefully selected singers and band to enhance her gift. These musicians have brought us a little closer to our heavenly Father. The CD cover is outstanding and inviting. We were fortunate enough to hear the live presentation of the CD. This is just the beginning for this artist and the other outstanding musicians. Bless your spirit with this CD!

Definitely would highly recommend this album. It's one of those albums that you can play all the way through without skipping tracks. Some of the many highlights are "Fire Bun a Weak Heart", "Total Commitment" "Hard Time" and "Terrible Inna Gideon". Very thoughtful lyrics and the beats will have you skanking all the way through.

I swear this sounds just like Luciano who also calls himselp Jah's messenger.

    4 out of 5 stars impressive.......2000-09-19

Bushman's successful rise to roots fame continues on this fine effort. Mixing his glorious vocals with his deep rastafarian faith spells wonderfully deep, moving tracks.

Highlights of the lp include the beautiful "Give Jah Praise," "Works to Do," and "Babylon Dead."

Another triumph for this rising star. Give it a listen.

4 out of 5 stars Bushman on his way up, soon come!.......2000-01-24

The first song i heard "fire bun a weak heart" which is one of my favorite songs on this cd, i thought it was luciano. Then after geting this cd i found out this man had the same healing voice as the brethren luciano. Bushman is on his way up to the top in my own opinion. Get this cd, a must for all reggae lovers!

3 out of 5 stars This Is Not Del's "Bag".......1999-06-30

In 1966, Shannon moved from Michigan to Los Angeles, ditching his band, The Royaltones, and his producer, Harry Balk, and signed with Liberty Records. This two-fer contains Shannon's first two albums for the label. THIS IS MY BAG was produced by Snuff Garrett, the pop production legend who was making stars out of Gary Lewis and The Playboys at the time. That said, it is no surprise that the album is made up of a couple of originals and a lot of weak covers of contemporary hits (a typical Snuff Garrett album of the time). Unfortunately, the originals do not rank among Shannon's best and many of the covers don't work with Shannon's voice. TOTAL COMMITMENT is better, with Garrett turning production duties over to Shannon and Dallas Smith. The album is still filled out with covers, but at least they're done with more conviction than the ones on the previous album. The originals on this album are also very good, although the album mix of "Show Me" is highly inferior to the Snuff Garrett-produced single version. (Check out Rhino's GREATEST HITS for the mono version or Raven's ANTHOLOGY for the stereo mix). In all, THIS IS MY BAG is okay and TOTAL COMMITMENT is enjoyable, if unoriginal. This CD is beautifully packaged and the sound is clear stereo, with the exception of "The Big Hurt," which is included in a muddy mono mix (see Charly's GREATEST HITS for the superior stereo version). Still, this is not for someone with only a mild interest in Del Shannon.

        5 out of 5 stars An under-rated classic. .......2005-08-16

I love this recording! It contains some of the warmest and most intimate playing of any Jim Hall album I've ever heard. I've never understood why it never caught on with many other Jim Hall fans or critics. I suppose, it's been overshadowed by his other wonderful CTI recording "Concierto". And many people simply prefer his less highly-produced live or small group recordings. That's understandable since, of course, that's the pure stuff for any Jim Hall fan. Still, most Hall fans love "Concierto" so I can't understand why this album hasn't gotten the respect it deserves.

Although I love "Concierto" as much as anybody, I personally enjoy "Commitment" as least as much. Although it's a relatively slickly-produced CTI recording, it nonetheless has a very live and intimate feeling to it. The intent was to showcase Hall's playing and compositions in a variety of relaxed settings, playing with friends. And it works admirably. The result is a series of thoughtful, occasionally playful and consistently engaging performances from all of the superb musicians on the album. The tunes range from lush ballads to lightly-but-definitly-swinging standards to an accoustic guitar and drum calypso duet to the beautiful "Lament for a Fallen Matador", Don Sebesky's arrangement based on Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor" included as a follow-up to the "Concierto de Aranjuez" arrangement on "Concierto". I've heard at least one critic complain about Hall's wife's singing on "When I Fall in Love". (A simple voice-guitar duet give to listeners a peak into the casual music Hall and his wife make at home.) Look. She's not a professional singer and that complaint entirely misses the point of why this piece was incluced here. And really, for an amatuer, her singing is much better than 90 some percent of us could do. I personally really liked her phrasing. (Critics can be such jerks.) Finally, I think Jim's performance on "My One and Only Love" with Tommy Flannagan is as good or better than any Jim Hall balad playing on record, bar none. I cannot fathom why it wasn't included on "Balad Essentials".

Admittedly, I'm biased. This was my first Jim Hall album and it turned me into a life-long fan. About 27 years ago I bought it (in vinyl) on a lark based on the beautiful D'Aquisto on the back. I was about 17 or 18 and my guitar instructor then was all about Pat Martino and I was looking for something more to my own tastes. After hearling Jim Hall play on this album, I was hooked for life. So this album has sentimental value to me. Still, I think it's a shame that this album is so overlooked by Jim Hall fans and critics. I'm just grateful that at least Universal made a release for the Janpanese market so that I was able to order the CD on Amazon.

If you're a Jim Hall fan and you haven't heard this album, get it while and wherever you can. It is truly a clasic and it is wonderful listening.
