There will likely be lots of scoffing at Marc Anthony's interpretation--both on disc and onscreen--of late salsa singer Hector Lavoe. But let's not forget that Anthony is a salsa superstar in his own right. He has anchored some of the genre's most thrilling moments and has taken salsa to audiences not normally exposed to the sweltering sound. The El Cantante soundtrack is a solid effort, notable for Anthony's dedication to recreating Lavoe's distinct delivery and phrasing. He puts aside his own emotive stylings for a more subdued performance on several tracks, including the celebratory "Mi Gente" and the mournful "Escandalo." Anthony is virtually unrecognizable during "Che Che Cole," "Quitate," and the standout "Que Lio," which makes the project all the more intriguing. Jennifer Lopez, Anthony's wife in real life and onscreen in El Cantante, croons pensive closing ballad "Toma de Mi." Even without the film, the soundtrack stands as an earnest homage to a tragic icon. --Joey Guerra

5 out of 5 stars Some extremely HOT music........2007-08-01

One song in particular "AQUANILE" is really hot, hot, hot. If you don't want to get up and dance to this, you must be dead.

3 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack...up until track 10!.......2007-07-30

I really was enjoying this CD! 9 tracks of 70's style Salsa (something I grew up listening to) done with new arrangements and STELLAR vocals by the swesome Marc Anthony...

...up until track 10! I really, REALLY wish hubby Marc would be honest with Jen and tell her SHE CAN'T SING! A well written song with a HORRIBLE singer, brings this CD down from 5 stars to a 3! Talk about buzz kill.

A high recommend, if you can somehow edit out the 10th track.

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC........2007-07-30

Marc Anthony Singing Hector Lavoe is enough to let you know this c.d. is an instant classic.

Jennifer Lopez's song on the soundtrack "Toma De Mi" is amazing. Beautiful flow and captivating lyrics.

Instant classi.

4 out of 5 stars Best song missing.......2007-07-27

I wonder why Hector's best song was not included on the soundtrack?
The song "Periodico de Ayer" (Yesterdays Newspaper") is to this date one of the best Salsa recordings.

4 out of 5 stars Very Pleased........2007-07-27

Not Hector Lavoe but rather a refreshing remake.Marc Anthonys voice is great if someone had to do it...No one better than Marc.

After three years of tossing and turning in anticipation of a new Enrique Iglesias disc, fans of the Latin superstar may find themselves losing still more sleep over early reviews that take Insomniac to task for straying too far from the sound that launched him to the loverman stratosphere. No need, though. Despite the presence of Lil' Wayne on the ultra-steamy, street-edged "Push" and some unapologetically catchy pop tunes any male singer, ethnicity aside, could have fun with ("Do You Know," for example, and "Tired of Being Sorry," a Ringside re-tread), white-hot machismo and Latin charm permeate Insomniac reliably. "Little Girl" sends out liquid-eyed outpourings of love to the ladies, "Don't You Forget About Me" delivers a sweet lament over a melting guitar line, and three late Spanish-language tracks--though they're just translations of English versions that preceded them--manage to lift the whole thing into a romantic shangri-la. If it's a peppier shangri-la than normal, chalk it up to No-Doz; Iglesias admits in the liner notes that he, himself, is the insomniac the disc was named for. --Tammy La Gorce

Album Description

Enrique Iglesias has sold 40 million albums in a little over a decade, becoming one of the most successful artists in the history of popular music. He has spent the past three years crafting his latest album.

Entitled "Insomniac," a humorous nod to Enrique's sleepless nights and obsessive artistic persona, the record is clearly the most ambitious project of his phenomenal career.

Great CD, has great tunes by a great artist. Another must get album from Enrique!!!!

4 out of 5 stars check this stuff from europe.......2007-07-24

Pretty good album. Anyone who likes this should check out a compilation series on iTunes called "Euro Club Hits" ... (there's a vol. 1, vol. 2, vol. 3, etc. etc.)...... So much of current club music in the USA is based in the stuff coming out of Europe, and yet nobody seems to know of it and the radio doesn't play it here! So I'm taking it as my personal mission to introduce everyone to it as best I can ...... "Euro Club Hits" -- it's only on the digital services for some reason -- iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, Emusic, etc. etc.

4 out of 5 stars great.......2007-07-16

as usual, Enrique is awesome. Some of the songs are a little artsy and you can tell he was experimenting...a bit too much if you ask me. but in general, Enrique always delivers.

I love Erique Iglesias' new CD. It's beautiful and smooth. I think he's a very talented song writer and singer.

Created as a benefit project for Artists' Project Earth, an organization devoted to protecting the environment, reversing climate change, and tendering disaster relief, this compilation pairs Western pop stars (U2, Sting, Artic Monkeys, et al) and their hits with all-new arrangements performed by members of Cuba's Buena Vista Social Club plus other Havana-based talent. The overall effect is of a well-meaning but not entirely simpatico mutual admiration society. Coldplay's "Clocks" is a good example; the lead vocal is coolly lethargic, engulfing the spiky crags of the rhythm section like syrup on a waffle. But then, most of the singers sound strangely unconnected to the frisky 1-2-3/1-2 of the clavé beat. The contrast between the two groups of players could have been bracing, and to many ears it perhaps will be, but most of the time, they seem to transmitting from parallel universes. Not surprisingly, the best tracks are those in which hometown icons are left to do what they do best. But the late, great Ibrahim Ferrer's marvelous interpretation of "As Time Goes By" (his final recording) and Omara Portuondo's wistful yet powerful cover of "Killing Me Softly" only serve to further showcase what's amiss with the rest of the album. --Christina Roden

4 out of 5 stars Great spin on contemporary tunes Don't buy the itunes version!.......2007-07-29

If you are going to buy this, make sure you buy on amazon! The itunes version doesn't include all the songs the CD version does.

Buena Vista has done it again. Cold play's and the Jack Johnson tune's are my favorite. The best tracks are the ones where the artist gave the group all the masters separated by tracks allowing these guy to really do their magic. Some songs seem like they just grabed the original version of the song and pasted a Latin rythem on top.

3 out of 5 stars Rhythms Del Mundo.......2007-07-15

It's a good idea and not bad for the effort. The songs while some work very well ,the others were just a good try . I can see what they were trying to do. Anyway it's for a good purpose

5 out of 5 stars Rhythms del Mundo: Cuba.......2007-07-05

I love this CD. Every cut is good. I can clearly appreciate the original artist and the Latin beat at the same time. I am so pleased to have a CD that every cut is good and I don't have to stop what I am doing in the cafe to skip a cut when the player is on scramble.

4 out of 5 stars Great Salsa/Pop Fusion CD.......2007-07-04

The fusion of well known pop artists (ie; U2, Coldplay, etc.) and Buena Vista Social Club totally works on this great CD.

Ry Cooder's name has helped bring attention to this session, but it's the veteran Cuban son musicians who make this album really special. Reminiscent of Ellington in its scope and sense of hushed romanticism, Buena Vista Social Club is that rare meld of quietude and intensity; while the players sound laid-back, they're putting forth very alive music, a reminder that aging doesn't mean taking to bed. Barbarito Torres's laoud solo on "El Cuarto de Tula" is both more blinding and more tasteful than any guitar showcase on any recent rock album; a quote from "Stormy Weather" and some very distinct parallels to Hawaiian styles remind us of why it's called "world music." --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Nice cuban music.......2007-03-15

I have had this album a number of years, and my enthusiasm is not quite as great as many of the viewers here, because although it is generally pleasant listening, I don't think there are really any outstanding tracks or personal favorites on here.

I should add that I speak Spanish fairly well and therefore understand the lyrics, and am generally an enthusiast of Hispanic culture and music. The story of this worthy project and how this was recorded are interesting and I suspect some reviewers are moved more by sentiment than just on the merits of the music, some of which seems very middle-of-the-road to me, albeit pleasant enough for casual listening.

5 out of 5 stars Cubano Revisited.......2007-02-12

Ry Cooder did a good thing reassembling these wonderfully talented and forgotten stars of another period. Great album, wish it was a double, triple, a collection. I would buy it. Can't replace these icons of another era and their sound will be gone with them.

5 out of 5 stars Ry Cooder With All Star Cuban Band.......2007-02-02

All done in Spainish, this excellent CD has a book included with translations and facts about the players. The music here oozes with atmosphere, taking you to the heart of Cuba. First rate musicianship and great songs all the way through. Ry leaves the vocals to various others, but his guitar work is unmistakably present. A good veiw indeed!

5 out of 5 stars Buena Vista Social Club Classic.......2007-01-16

For those of you who are fans of the Buena Vista Social Club already, this is the masterpiece. A culmination of talented musicians, soul, love, and sultry afternoons with a cool drink getting ready to kick on into the night!

For those of you who have never listened to this style of music, don't just listen to it once as you could compare it to the first 3 olives you have ever eaten.

The first one shocks your taste with a layered complexity that is both sharp and mellow, leaving you with a look on your face that says "what just happened?".

The second takes you back to the memory of your first taste, and enjoying re-living the sensation, you start looking for more.

The third confirms your interests and instils an infatuation with something unique, powerful, and good for the heart and soul, that will be played over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic!.......2007-01-11

Michael Fletcher reviewed this CD spot-on. And I concur with the review that it is magical--it is indeed that. I can listen to it over and over at work or at home! It seems to suit almost any mood and simply nourishes the soul. I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys good music--you don't even need to be a fan of Cuban music. I certainly am not well versed in Latin music, but am a definite fan of this album!

El Cantante - The Originals - Hector Lavoe

Héctor Lavoe continues to be the source of tributes, covers, drama, and films. This collection of carefully remastered original songs affirms that the attention is well deserved. It features some of the classic hits he recorded together with Willie Colon. The influence of Lavoe will continue to be felt in the Latin music world, but nothing beats listening to this remastered original.

Those who like Hector Lavoe will enjoy this cd. Although the quality is not excellent (I heard the original LP in one of my neighbor's sound system and liked the sound and was amazed by the coda of Periodico de Ayer, an almost classical part at the end of the song with violins which lamentably is not included in this CD.)
I also like Dia de Suerte. How the chorus begins at "destiempo"... had not noticed it? uhmm.

Originally released in March 1964, this collaboration between saxophonist Stan Getz and guitarist João Gilberto came at seemingly the end of the bossa nova craze Getz himself had sparked in 1962 with Jazz Samba, his release with American guitarist Charlie Byrd. Jazz Samba remains the only jazz album to reach number one in the pop charts. In fact, the story goes that Getz had to push for the release of Getz/Gilberto since the company did not want to compete with its own hit; it was a good thing he did. Getz/Gilberto, which featured composer Antonio Carlos Jobim on piano, not only yielded the hit "Girl from Ipanema" (sung by Astrud Gilberto, the guitarist's wife, who had no professional experience) but also "Corcovado" ("Quiet Night")--an instant standard, and the definitive version of "Desafinado." Getz/Gilberto spent 96 weeks in the charts and won four Grammys. It remains one of those rare cases in popular music where commercial success matches artistic merit. Bossa nova's "cool" aesthetic--with its understated rhythms, rich harmonies, and slightly detached delivery--had been influenced, in part, by cool jazz. Gilberto in particular was a Stan Getz fan. Getz, with his lyricism, the bittersweet longing in his sound, and his restrained but strong swing, was the perfect fit. His lines, at once decisive and evanescent, focus the rest of the group's performance without overpowering. A classic. --Fernando Gonzalez

5 out of 5 stars It just doesn't get any better.............2007-06-30

....than this. Some very good albums may define a singer; some great ones, like "Tapestry" and "No Secrets", can define a whole generation. Here, we have an album so great we could use it to define "music".

There are conflicting stories as to how this recording, or, at least, Astrud Gilberto's part in it, came to be. At this distance in time, who cares? The late Stan Getz was said to be an unpleasant man. Who cares? He was, you see, a genius, who played the sax like nobody before, or since. Astrud Gilberto supports some political causes that I can't stand. Who cares? She's the prototype of a whole genre...another may be a little prettier, or have a little better voice, but Astrud is still "the original"; all others are copies. Music and politics shouldn't mix, anyway.

Here we have a collection of talent in one place not equaled till "The Blues Brothers". Besides Getz and Astrud, we have Antonio Carlos Jobim and Astrud's then husband, Joao. Great music, well played, and recorded to perfection. EVERYBODY needs at least one copy of this.

5 out of 5 stars Every Collector's Must Have!.......2007-06-08

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2007-05-22

This is a classic and worth its great reputation. No wonder it has remained popular for so many, many years. It is one of the few albums I enjoyed as a teenager and still enjoy 40 years later!

5 out of 5 stars View fom Sugarloaf Mountain.......2007-03-14

Much has been said about this disc over the past nearly 45 years since it's recording and here at Amazon; mostly all positive here as the 136 reviews averaging five stars can testify to. I listened to this LP many years, off and on since it's original release and recently purchased the CD version so I may take it anywhere on my I-Pod. It goes without saying it is essential music. The understated vibe whispers classic. The pairing of Getz and Gilberto seems as natural and beautiful as sunsets on the beach on Rio de Janeiro. The soft sensual vocals of Joao and Astrud Gilberto pair well with the robust yet minimilist sax work Stan Getz to create an exquisite recording. The contribution by Antonio Carlos Jobim on piano cannot be overlooked as he helped create the total ambience. Soft romantic melodies results from the joining of these two forces in their respective fields to create the definitive bossa nova sound. The model for which bossa nova has been defined by is the quintessential "The Girl From Ipanema" features the famous duet by husband and wife Astrud and Joao Gilberto that is complimented by the cool tenor sax work by Getz twice on this disc;included is the 45rpm issue that was popular on the airwaves during the time period. It is ironic that Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim did not want her to sing on what has become arguably one of the most recognized bossa nova songs ever recorded. The total recording is a reflection of a turbulent time in the world when peaceful music waft down from Sugarloaf mountain for the world to take notice and they have never stopped noticing. Maybe in our contemporay world of war and chaos we need more of the peaceful vibe of the bossa nova again. If you have never experienced this classic recording, check it out,it does still sound good after all these years. Recommended for jazz and Brazilian music enthusiasts.

5 out of 5 stars Riding at Full Throttle on Top of Bossa Nova!.......2007-02-17

Bossa Nova started in Brazil in the late `50s. The "First Generation" included Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joao Gilberto and Vinicius de Moraes as their main artists. Their themes were composed focusing on "Love, Smiles & Flowers" and greatly influenced Latin America's music and even USA's jazz composers.

The present CD was recorded in 1963 when Bossa Nova was the "new thing" mixing with Jazz and conquering USA.
Three geniuses, Joao Gilberto (guitar and vocals), Stan Getz (tenor saxophone) and "Tom" Jobim (piano and composer of eight of the ten musical pieces in the CD) join and mix their efforts to give the audience an outstanding performance.
On top of all that Astrud Gilberto sang "Girl from Ipanema" (she had never before performed professionally) and became instantly a star.
Sebastiao Neto bass and Milton Banana drums complete the musical team.

"Girl from Ipanema" make you feel being at the wonderful Ipanema Beach surrounded by the loveliest girls in the world (believe me, I've been there). Astrud's voice is just unbelievable.
I recommend hearing, enjoying and comparing this song's version with the one recorded in 1967 by Sinatra and Jobim.
"Corcovado" aka "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars" evokes those wonderful starred nights from Rio de Janeiro, with all their sensual appeal, hearing soft guitar music. Getz's saxophone phrasing is just from another world!
"Para Machucar Meu Coracao" ("To Hurt my Heart" authored by Ary Barroso) is the story of a love affaire gone sour. Joao Gilberto's voice is able to express heartrending pain.

This CD is one of the Top Popular Music in my personal selection, tied up with before mentioned Jobim-Sinatra. I recommend it warmly!

When Grammy-winning Buena Vista Social club lead vocalist Ibrahim Ferrer died in August 2005 at the age of 78, he was within a few weeks of accomplishing a lifelong ambition: to record an album of suave, sexy, elegant Cuban boleros. The first acknowledged tune of the genre, "Tristezas," was composed in Santiago by Pepe Sánchez during the late 1800s. The form was descended from a Spanish waltz-like dance of the same name, which in turn evolved from the French contradanse and, even earlier on, from English rural styles. Strangely, Ferrer had repeatedly been told that his voice was not sufficiently "manly" for these leisurely, achingly romantic ballads. But judging by the present tracks--and despite the inevitable depredations of age, which only give his interpretations an added, rueful vulnerability--this is demonstrably untrue. The singer's reedy tenor, in some cases rescued from high-quality demos with instrumentals recorded posthumously, touches places in a listener's soul that no power-popster with an umpteen-octave range and mud-slides of melisma could remotely approach. Ferrer is joined by BVSC band-mates Rubén González (piano) and Omara Portuondo (vocals) on one tune each and is accompanied by the soulfully rinky-tink piano of Roberto Fonseca, Orlando "Cachaíto" López's sinuous, resonant acoustic bass and Manuel Galbán's sensitive guitar, with Ramses Rodrigues and Emilio del Monte manning trap drums and percussion. Overall, Mi Sueño ("My Dream") has a late-night feeling, as though captured amid an after-hours jam in a smoky, malt-scented Havana nightclub, long after sleeves have been pushed up and chairs piled on the tables. --Christina Roden

Album Description

Mi Sueno is essential listening. Ferrer brings warmth, ease, humor and poignancy to his vocals, where romance is looked back on fondly and still longed for passionately. Featuring "Uno" and "Perfidia," Mi Sueno is a dream everyone can share.

Ibrahim Ferrer shows yet again the finesse and maturity of a well seasoned vocalist who over the years has become better and better. With the Buena Vista sound backing him up he lets loose song after song with the incredible range and confidence only a master can produce. A wonderful posthumos album with his take on several classics. A spellbinding duet with Omar and impeccable rythm that grows on you the more you listen to it. Its wonderful to compare to his more youthful works and see that what he gave up in fiestiness he more than makes up for in sheer class and charisma. A must buy.

We don't hear this kind of music anymore.Ibrahim sings from his soul.Classic boleros with an outstanding band behind him.Don't miss it!

5 out of 5 stars True Cuban Music... .......2007-07-03

Just amazing, I play it over and over! For me it serves as a bridge that brings to reality a cuba that was experienced by a generation that is slowly passing like the Maestro Ibrahim Ferrer. I grew up with this style/era of music in thanks to my grandparents. It allows me to be a part of them and bring to them a little piece of the Cuba they left behind.

5 out of 5 stars The Cuban Nat King Cole.......2007-05-31

Mi Sueno is the kind of CD that you can put on and play over and over again for hours. Ibrahim sings each song with such conviction you feel every note and you know he has been in love and was deeply in love when he sang these songs. Rest in peace Ibrahim! You were indeed God's gift to us while you were on this earth.

5 out of 5 stars Soulful.......2007-04-26

I have quite a few of Ibrahim Ferrer's recorded music and found his boleros (slower songs) quite pleasing and emotional. I would pick the boleros he sang out of all the Buena Vista recordings and put them on my MP3 player because I liked the soulful emotion he envoked when he sang. It's hard to describe in words, sometimes an artist interpretation of a song really touches the soul, Ibrahim was one of these unique artists. I was very pleased to see that there is finally a release of just slow songs, about love and relationships, even if you don't understand the Spanish language, I think you will hear his Cuban soul and warmth penetrate your senses. I must say that in his earlier recordings ( from the original Buena Vista recordings) the tone and clarity of his voice was prime. In this CD, one can hear the aging of his voice a bit, but don't let that deter you from adding this CD to your collection, for such a soulfoul voice only comes about once in a decade or two, and Ibrahim's expressive qualities were as eminently apparent in his earlier years as they were in his late years. This is a good selection of songs, some were very popular, such as "Perfidia," and "Quizas, Quizas, Quizas," others less recognizable, but all suitable for both listening and slow dancing.

Amazon.com essential recording

The Arista debut of Carlos Santana and band gives fans of the soulful guitar vet two albums in one, but it's a decidedly good-news, bad-news proposition. First, there's a fine collection of late-'90s-model Santana--tastefully tooled songs driven by Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms ("[Da Le] Taleo," "Africa Bamba," "Migra," "Primavera," and the emotionally charged instrumental "El Farol") that allow Carlos plenty of elbowroom for his passionate soloing. Then there's the collection of tracks featuring a lineup of de rigueur alternative and hip-hop stars, including Dave Matthews, Everlast, Rob Thomas, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Eagle Eye Cherry. To their credit, Matthews ("Love of My Life") and Eagle Eye Cherry ("Wishing It Was") muster enough chemistry to make the fusion work. But the rest of the collaborations feel like an unnecessary stretch to reach out to a younger demographic that El Jefe has little trouble attracting on his own terms. --Jerry McCulley

This album is on of the best examples of music prostitution of an artist in need of money and/or willing get his glory back. Just get the old stuff.

1 out of 5 stars No Mas!.......2007-07-14

If I hear another Santana song I will throw myself off a tall bridge. He is the most over-rated artist period.

4 out of 5 stars an intriguing cross-section of musical flavors.............2007-06-08

What do you think of when you hear the name Santana? For me, my thoughts go to "Oye Como Va," "Black Magic Woman," and "Evil Ways." Carlos Santana has always been the epitome of cool, class and mad talent. That hasn't dulled with time, and he definitely hasn't softened with time. Carlos just has a deeper realized sazon (flavor), now. "Well," thought the producers of this album, "what better way to introduce Carlos Santana to the younger generation, than through blending his sound with a bunch of other artists that emerged in the last ten years or so?" Very intriguing idea. Does it work? On some cuts, it succeeds very well! While, on other cuts, the music comes across as [slightly] engineered to appeal, but it doesn't really make the lasting impression I would have loved to feel.

Some of the most well-known songs from this album include "Smooth" with Rob Thomas, "Maria, Maria," with Wyclef Jean, and "Corazon Espinado," with Mana. For me, "Smooth" was great to hear, the first several times on the radio, but I think it was [a bit] played out. Rob Thomas has strong vocals but they don't blend well with Santana. Thomas sounds almost too "trendy," here. The beauty of Santana is that he is timeless and he could appear on any album, from probably any time, and his scorchingly hot guitar licks would still ignite your speakers, and that is probably why this musical coupling didn't work so well. Whereas, "Maria, Maria" succeeds in sounding street and like Santana is channeling the hauntedness of the barrio with Wyclef's tight production (hip hop meets latin soul). Great! "Corazon Espinado" is right on the mark. Mexican rock band Mana sounds wonderful with Santana, and their vocals and back-up compliment him beautifully. If I was really going to analyze every track on this album, it would take all day for you to even get through this review! So, I will stop right now and just say that SUPERNATURAL is [overall] a very compelling project, and when it's good, it's great. If there are some songs you don't like, just skip them, because there really is something here for everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Supernatural is Simply Super.......2007-05-30

As a sixty-something year old musician and guitarist who still gigs, I am truly amused by all those folks who love an artist's work SO much, they think time, and the artist should stand still. I have been a fan of Santana's since he first broke out, and I have every album he's ever made...and listen to them frequently. I also love SUPERNATURAL! I especially love his collabo's with younger artists. He's not so much reaching out to them, as he is bringing them into his world. If you are the kind of listener who wants to know before you open the jewel box what you will hear, Carlos is simply not for you. He has always experimented, and grown. Some of his "experiments" are lifelong companions, others don't work as well as they might. So what? As to all those who have the nerve to call Carlos Santana a sell-out simply because he has been successful, I remind you all, that this master is wealthy enough to never have to record or gig again in life, and that he does it for the sheer joy of it! I hear in this album his incredible joy at trying something else, and loving it. Rock on Carlos!

4 out of 5 stars Great sounds.......2007-05-24

I really enjoyed this oldie but goodie. Santana has a certain sound that is easy to listen to.

Viento a Favor is Mexican superstar Alejandro Fernandez's 15th studio disc in as many years as a singer. But he still approaches each project with the urgency and earnestness of a newbie singer. That's what makes each tune a small celebration, an intimate moment of discovery. There are no wasted moments amid the sterling arrangements, some of the best in Fernandez's lush pop repertoire. (He's an equally heralded ranchera singer.) Viento a Favor features tunes written by Leonel Garcia and Noel Schajris (better known as emotive Latin-pop duo Sin Bandera) and Mexican singer Reyli Barba. They're all taken to wuthering heights by Fernandez's stellar vocal range, which goes from hushed whispers to booming intensity. First single "Te Voy a Perder" is an epic romance, and "Amor Gitano," a duet with bilingual diva Beyoncé, expectedly smolders. Closing tune "Cuando Estamos Juntos" is another surprise, an acoustic-flavored ode to simple joy. --Joey Guerra

5 out of 5 stars He can just sing anything . . ........2007-07-26

. . . with this voice. This is definitely adult pop, the direction Alex's music has been taking for the last few years now. He's matured and so has his voice; it's much more resonant and you hear that better singing ballads and this type of smooth pop than the traditional mariachi music. Hard to pick a favorite here, but "Te Voy A Perder" and "Sin Consideracion" are the songs most likely to appeal across genres. Alex is sure to win some new fans with this mix. Even if you don't speak Spanish, he still makes you feel the mood of his songs and you will believe you understand what he's singing. He is La Voz (The Voice).

4 out of 5 stars Very good........2007-07-22

Alejandro has a very pleasant voice that projects real feelings in the words he is expressing. Whether he sings pop or rancheras his voice captures the listener.

2 out of 5 stars Not Alejandro's style.......2007-07-22

Love the hit song "Te voy a perder" and the song with Beyonce', but the rest of the songs are okay. Kinda boring. They are not Alejandro's style of music. I love Alejandro soooooo much I dream of him. I listen to his concert in Spain CD three to four times a week and watch his DVD very often. He's my idol. I love his other cd's also "Corazon Abierto" and his Mariachi CD's. He's awesome! This new cd of his, just isn't his style. I believe he's trying to get into the pop scene, but he's better with his balads and Mariachi music. If you want to listen to it, I suggest buying a used one instead and save your money.
Ale, you can come to my home anytime for dinner and ??!

Ale's big FAN!

Through the course of Como Ama Una Mujer, the first full-blown collection of Spanish-language tunes from multicultural diva Jennifer Lopez, we keep waiting for it to happen. A sweltering, hands-in-the-air dance anthem--the kind that made Lopez a superstar. Alas, the club beats never materialize: not even a soul-diva shimmy. The closest Lopez comes to is midtempo first single "Que Hiciste." (Seek out the pulsing, reggaeton-flavored remix for maximum dance floor fabulousness.) What we get here is a surprisingly solid collection of elegant ballads and rock-flavored tunes that showcase new vocal strengths and surprising lyrical maturity. Producers Marc Anthony, Estefano and Julio Reyes give Lopez the gloss without overpowing her, a key element to the disc's success. La Lopez recycles one track from 2005's Rebirth, "(Can't Believe) This Is Me," which pops up here as the superior "Porque te Marchas." The disc's second half is a sweeping, often gorgeous, stream of romantic consciousness, starting with the lovely "Tu" and gliding through the gently chugging "Sola." And the beautiful closing track "Adios" is a standout, pairing Lopez's lilting vocals with a gentle string arrangement and a rousing chorus of voices. A sterling achievement from a diva whose talent is just beginning to blossom. --Joey Guerra

4 out of 5 stars Nice CD.......2007-07-31

This was my first Jennifer Lopez CD purchase. Most of the songs on the album are ballads, and I prefer more upbeat music, but I still enjoy this CD. I'd definitely purchase another music CD by Jennifer Lopez.

1 out of 5 stars Terribly Disappointed.......2007-06-27

Though her voice is good; she should stick to Pop music. Too many ballads and the soul searching lyrics. Lyrics not appropriate for her. She sings about sadness and disappointment when we all know her life is so different. The songs did not match her or what she represents to Latinos and women. Jennifer should continue to do Pop music and upbeat tempos and forget about the torch songs of pain and abandonment. Not a good match. What were her producers thinking. Hello!!!! Wasted my money. I never listen to it again.

1 out of 5 stars Mi opinion, escucha este CD antes de comprarlo!.......2007-06-21

Empiezo en comentar que cuando salio este CD a la venta pense que con el apoyo de Marc Anthony este proyecto iba a ser un exito. Desgraciadamente me equivoque.
