Before the Enhanced CD was released, Los Lonely Boys released the Real Emotions CD. Here in Austin, it was available as a rubber-banded two CD set - with the other being the CD single of 'HEAVEN'. 'REAL EMOTIONS' is on the ECD, as is 'LA CONTESTACION', but until the Australian X3 release, 'SUENO MAL' (Crazy Dream sung in Spanish) was only available on this CD, and 'COTTONFIELDS AND CROSSROADS', a signature LLB piece, is still only available on this CD (excepting, of course, boots and other demo / show CDs for LLB). Collectors who are completists need this one, and this performance of COTTONFIELDS is stunning. So, do attempt to acquire a copy of this CD!

A Definitive Take on the Best Pop Band in the Hispanophone World.......2006-11-20

Hombres G are the pinnacle of hispanophone pop rock. Their first single, "Devuelveme A Mi Chica" is a classic that boasts the immortal line 'sufre mamon, devuelveme a mi chica o te retorceras entre el polvo pica-pica.' Delightful fun peppered with a nasty spiteful tinge. Catchy, too.

"Venezia" begins with the most pretentious operatic intro before it turns into a capuccino-powered pop romp that ventures into the Italian language. Daniel Summers offers some of his most high-pitched vocals on this one, and that's saying something!

"Dejad Que Las Niñas Se Acerquen a Mi" is a typical tale of insecurity and yearning for female attention.

"Marta Tiene un Marcapasos" has the Hombres G playing at double speed and singing about a girl with a pacemaker who's just like her father. The last third of the song ventures into doo wop/soul territory that makes sense despite the fast tempo.

"El Ataque de Las Chicas Cocodrilo" is yet another tale of a young man's insecurity. 'Nunca hemos sido los guapos del barrio' sets the record straight from the get-go, while 'yo la verdad no me encuentro tan guapo' and 'me encuentro simpatico, un poco maniatico y tal vez de este lado un poquito mejor.' That speaks to many of us, despite what naysayers might opine.

"Te Quiero" harkens back to the slow love songs of 50s, and its the kind of track that the Stray Cats would've done when feeling particularly romantic.

"Visite Nuestro Bar" sees Hombres G trying to go for a Two-Tone ska kind of sound. It works remarkably well and its among the many highlights on this fantastic set.

"Nassau" is a track that's unlike most of the preceding songs. It starts out with a comparatively slow intro. The lyrics tell a tale of a man who goes to the island of Nassau and just has random misfortunes afflict him throughout. Its funny, in a dark sort of way. Then, in the last third of the track, the tempo goes into overdrive and it sounds like we're listening to The Clash's "Somebody Got Murdered" or "Lost in the Supermarket." Not as light as the other tracks, but it can easily become one of your favourites if you take the time to appreciate it.

"Una Mujer de Bandera" is much catchier than its predecessor and its lyrics deal with a guy who likes a really buff girl. Needless to say, our narrator gets constantly beat up by his beloved.

"Temblando" is morose piano number whose mood breaks the string of winning tracks. Darn.

"Si No Te Tengo a Ti" sees the band come back to form. Lyrics deal with not having someone and the situation that creates. Without you, who will I write songs about or dance barefoot through Madried with? Great backing vocals aid the track become yet another classic.

"Sueltate el Pelo" is kinda like a Spanish Jerry Lee Lewis track for the 80s generation. Fun.

"Chico Tienes Que Cuidarte" is a slow one, but its instrumentation is similar to the ska-ish sound heard on "Visite Nuestro Bar."

"Voy a Pasarmelo Bien" is one of the most optimistic tracks ever.

Tracks 15-19 are, for the most part, utterly unremarkable bits of weak pop. Only "Esta Es Tu Vida" provides a constrast. In this song, Hombres G play their heaviest, and it doesn't sound too bad; it just doesn't feel very Hombres G-ish.

Lastly, the set concludes with "Un Minuto Nada Mas," a return to form that boasts a well-built chorus and a great melody.

Overall, this set presents a band that burst onto the scene with the most playful dynamism and as such, managed to create loads of great music. From the happy to the hysterically funny, most of their songs can now be considered pop classics. Aside from a few weak tracks at the tail end of the compilation, their first decade can largely be seen as a resounding triumph in the realm of Spanish pop music. This set, as such, is a must have for anyone who values melody, wit and music.

Firs, this will will is a loser he does not know anything about this band...everybody knows that these hombres g became famous before heroes del silencio u dork, back in the days, this band rocked, I do not like them as much but it brings me memories....of their music and my childhood.

The worst "would be rock band," in Spanish!.......2006-06-03

Ever since they came out, when I lived in Mexico and everybody was listening to these losers and buying their tapes, I hated everything about the sound of this really dumb and unoriginal band with their really bad lead singer who sounds like he's being stepped on his... you get the idea. These are the kings of simple, because everything is just that, there are no brains to their "music," arrangements, sound or lyrics, in short there is absolutely nothing! Their "music," is so simple that if I were to hand instruments to a a few monkeys at a zoo, they would be able to play all of this bands repertoire without missing a single note in one evening! This band sucks and I cannot stand them! If you really want to listen to a good rock band from Spain, listen to Heroes Del Silencio, now this is a band with very complex, well thought, well arranged and well written songs, with a real lead singer who has more in common with Jim Morrison from The Doors, than Hombres G's idiotic ramblings of a loser who is trying to sing with that stupid silly voice of an 11 year old boy going through puberty! Or, if you want to listen to an awesome Mexican rock group, with awesome arrangements and well thought music and lyrics, grab yourself a copy of any Moenia CD, especially the first two they put out.

Hombres G is one of the most famous spanish rock pop band in the last 20 years. Anyone who was able to listen to them when they got their boom can realize that most of their great songs are within this album. Masterpieces as "Te quiero" [I love you], "Temblando" [Shaking], "Si No Te Tengo A Ti" [If I Didn't Have You], "Te Necesito" [I Need You], "Estoy Pintando Tu Sonrisa" [I'm Drawing Your Smile] show their greatest pure rock balads, unfortunately "Un Par De Palabras" [A Couple Of Words] is missing in this really good album. You can find many other funny songs within the album. Lyrics could sound nonsense or jokes; however, rock rythms and a euphoria voice get you into tune with this worldwide spanish rock band.

I wish Amazon had a negative 5 star rating!.......2007-06-29

I hate this band! This is one, if not the worst and most unoriginal band in the entire world! The noise these "would be musicians," produce is simple at best, shallow, unoriginal, copied and their lead singer is an idiot with one of the stupidest voices I have ever heard.

In short, everything is predictable about these losers who conquered the minds of poor musically uneducated people! Once you hear one of their songs, you practically heard them all. They never evolved, nor learned anything new, despite their 20 year "career," and sadly, there were a lot of musically ignorant people awaiting their "much anticipated come back."

So, forget about finding any intelligent lyrics, well thought musical arrangements or vocals with these guys.

If you really want to listen to a good rock and or pop music from Spain, listen to Heroes Del Silencio, now this is a band with very complex, well thought, well arranged and well written songs, with a real lead singer who has more in common with Jim Morrison from The Doors.

Or you can listen to Mecano, another band from Spain, this band has a lot of simple songs from their earlier period, but they are only simple compared to their later material. With Mecano, you can tell that they evolved in many aspects, because they have many very beautiful and very complex songs with a lot of gray matter, creativity and put into them.

Some of their songs have even been covered by Sarah Brightman!

Or, if you want to listen to an awesome Mexican rock group, with awesome arrangements and well thought music and lyrics, grab a copy of any Moenia CD, especially Moenia and Adicion, these guys produce awesome and very complex electronic music with great lyrics.

Caifanes is another Mexican group that has some great very original and complex material, specifically El Diablito, El Silencio and El Nervio del Volcan.

And if you really want some awesome material in English, get a copy of Pink Floyd's The Wall, or Queen's Greatest Hits, Alan Parson's Project Greatest Hits or anything from these guys: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Sting, Elton John, Eric Clapton!

Or literally ANY CD by the only band from which ALL music is derived one way or another, The Beatles.

(I just noticed that they are all British, well, grab any CD from U2, they're Irish and they are truly amazing! American? Well, there are many such as Toto, Journey, The Doors, Chicago or Simon & Garfunkel)

20 years of good music.......2006-04-05

Hombres g have been undoubtly the most important band of Pop- rock in Spanish of the all times.

This is a great cd, that mix the clasics of the groups with the most recent songs recorded last years, since their return. Very recommendable. This is a jewel for the collectors and who never had the chance of listening this band in its first stage.

The single, "No lo sé" extracted from the last recorded cd by Hombres G on 2.004 "Todo esto es muy extraño" is a very funy history with the sign and typical style of Hombres G.

Los Lonely Boys are really incomparable to any of their predecessors. This, I can say about them, they are very entertaining to listen to, they have a great sound and the fusion of Mexican-inspired rhythms and instrumentation, juxtaposed with a country/rock sound really is the source of their infectiousness. "Heaven," the song that got them the most radio airplay (as of yet) is just a lot of fun to listen to, you think of hot summer days and unrequited love. The lead vocals and guitar are strong and you will love it.....

I'm tired of this notion that in order for a song to be a radio success, it has to be so bland that it will appeal to a wide audience. Witness "Heaven," the latest beaten-to-death-on-the-radio hit by Los Lonely Boys. The boys sing decent harmonies, play their own instruments in heartfelt professional manner, and don't rock too hard so as not to turn off the over 30 crowd. They also send out sunny messages about heaven to appeal to middle America in this conservative age we live in. And the song is, well, not too bad, but... shlocky and boring as anything after two listens. I know it's not their fault the song is being overplayed on the air, but the general success of this kind of risk-free mediocrity reminds us once again how badly uncreative things have gotten in rock music since the day, so long ago, that the Beatles split up.
