Not your typical Spanish music.......2004-08-03

When I asked most Spaniards what they listened to, they would begin to rant off a fairly long list of American or Brittish groups. Anything but something native Spanish. When I asked them what Spanish groups they liked, I got mostly, "We are known for Flamenco music." One name that did get thrown around a few times though was Jarabe de Palo. He became famous in 1999 with his first hit, "La Flaca," a bluesy / latin lament about a guy wanting a kiss from a sexy, skinny bar girl. Jarabe turns his back on the pop formulas that have made his fellow compatriots like Enrique Iglesias or David Bisbal popular and instead does what few do today: be a musician. His guitar playing rocks you into a warm little world when he wants to be sweet, and into a latin smoke-filled tasca when he wants to spice things up a bit. Jarabe has some Cuban influences in his tunes and even teams up with Celia Cruz in the last song, "A lo loco." Ballads like "Depende" and "Agua" are simple, yet rich in harmony and guitar melodies. He likes to throw his listener into a mix that is anything but "puro" because in the so called "pure" there is no "future" (En lo puro no hay futuro). This is a CD to play after or before some James Taylor to get the heartbeat going. If you want a little taste of Jarabe, watch his video "Bonito" on AOL radio, one that Alanis Morisette liked so much, she copied for a song on her latest album. Quality songwriting, from the heart, and not from the Pop-tune machine.

This collection of 15 great hits of Nicola Di Bari in spanish is missing one of his most (if not the most) important and popular song: "Lisa de los ojos azules". I wouldn't buy this CD without that song.

Long before Rickey Martin,Enrique Iglesias, and others there was the one and only Camilo Sesto! This gentleman best exemplifies beautiful lyrics with strong and smooth vocals. A true catch for any one who respects classic latin/spanish sounds. No "vida loca" or "bon bon" shaking here, for the fan that sees beyond all hype and fads.

The Julio Jaramillo cd is great! Grandes Trios is just average........2007-01-20

This oro puro has two cd's - Julio Jaramillo is the first cd and is awesome! The recordings were not digitally re-mastered so there is hiss, clicks and static at times but Julio's sweet voice comes through. The Grandes Trios cd is not worth the effort.

Reconozco que no se trata de una colección de grandes éxitos exactamente, pero de todos modos es un buen conjunto. Ciertas canciones, por ejemplo, "Calle Melancolía", "Juana la Loca", "Negra noche", "Ocupen su localidad", y "Caballo de cartón" no pierden su sarcasmo, su emoción, o su gusto aunque ya las haya realizado varias veces.

No Es Un "Grandes Exitos".......2004-09-18

El título del CD es desorientador. Esta colección de canciones no es más que dos de los primeros trabajos de Sabina (Malas Compañias 1980 y Ruleta Rusa 1984) reproducidos integramente en un solo CD. No tengo conocimiento de que exista un CD de grandes éxitos oficial. Lo más cercano seria los CD en vivo "En Directo 1986" y "Nos Sobran Los Motivos 2000". Ambos son bastante representativos de los trabajos de Joaquín en el momento que salieron al mercado.

PC USERS BEWARE!.......2006-07-20

I recently purchased this item new. It arrived as scheduled, but when I put the disc (which is a Sony product) into the drive, it installed a Root Kit that completely screwed up my computer. You may recall that Sony lost a lawsuit in which it was ordered to cease putting Root Kits on its discs.

You would be well advised to check first with the seller to determine whether or not the copy you are ordering was released following disposition of the lawsuit. Otherwise, brace yourself for a lot of grief.

This message, of course, does not apply to MAC users. When I attempted to play it on my MAC, it prevented the Root Kit from being installed and worked just fine.
