I only gave it 3 Stars because "Love is a Battlefield" is not the Jellybean 12" remix, which is what I ordered it for. It is the LP version. But at least it has "Jeopardy" and "Living in a Box". Still I was majorly disappointed! Be warned!

One for the collectors.......2005-10-27

When the Pet Shop Boys were first starting out, they were helped along by Bobby Orlando, a producer of Hi-Energy music on the New York scene. Bobby O was also producer for Corey Hart, who had the single 'Sunglasses at Night', a very popular hit also in the 1980s. That explains the combination of the two songs, together with a strange track entitled 'Pet Shop Boys' and a remix of a song from their second album, 'One More Chance'. These songs are obviously ones to which Bobby O retained rights over - the production values for all of these songs are very different from standard Pet Shop Boys issue, and the general remix is one that is more reminiscent of one done for a club than for release as a single.

The fact that this has four CDs in a double-CD case when in fact all the music would easily fit on one CD also smacks of a ploy to max the marketing potential - adding up all the music on these four CDs amounts to under 40 minutes of music. That's not 40 minutes per CD, mind you, that's 40 minutes total. (Do the math for the per-minute charge for the music given the cost of this piece.)

Unless you are the most die-hard collector of PSB memorabilia, this can be safely missed. The packaging claims to have a biography included - this is true, but it is a one-page piece of trivia points about the Pet Shop Boys (there is an English and German translation of the page).

Old mixes of West End Girls...why not?.......2000-08-13

I actually really like this collection. It was done years ago though, so it may not compare with the standards we Pet Shop Boy fanatics have accepted now, but still it's quite fun to listen to. I sometimes take it out once in a while and listen to the Pet Shop Boy theme. It takes me back and makes me remember what it is about them that I always liked and continue to have a passion for. It is quite simple music, since it was done in the early 80's. But the mixes are very good! They are not like Pet Shop Boys mixes nowadays where they are full of different things to listen to; where you have at least 10 or 12 different things happening at once. But it still is a must for a true fan. My favorites are the "Pet Shop Boy theme" and "West End Girls/Sunglasses". Any mix of West End Girls, no matter how long ago it was done, OR recent, is worth getting. (This cd must have been done when they were popular in Japan, check out the Japanese music chords under different songs, particulary the ones I mentioned before.)

4CD PSB BOX SET?? YES PLEASE!!.......1999-09-08

4 CD's of original Bobby 'O' mixes of the fab West End Girls and unreleased versions of One More Chance. Worth it, if just to have "West End Sunglasses", west end girls mixed with I wear my sunglasses at night!!

It is awful.......1999-08-07

It sounds raw. Not only is the recording aweful but so is the music. It was not the standard level of PSB sophisitication I am used to hearing. Don't buy this CD.

This volume in the series really should have been called Maximum New Wave volume 2. My only disappointment with this volume is that we get the album version of French Kissin by Deborah Harry instead of the true 12" remix!!! Track times:

Great 80's dance remixes........2004-10-11

This cd comes from Holland and is basically filled with EMI released dance music from the 1980's . All the songs are 12" mixes except for the Debbie Harry track for "French Kissin" which is the lp version. The 12" mix for "French Kissin" is over 7 minutes. This cd is one of several in a list of Maximum 12" cds from the Disky label. Not a bad selection on this cd. Track listing:
1- Talk Talk- It's A Shame (12") 7:00--hit number 12 on the dance charts in 1984.
2- Culture Club- The War Song (Extended) 6:18- one of their last big top 40 hits from 1984's Waking Up With The House On Fire ---this hit number 7 on the club chart.
3- Duran Duran- The Reflex (Dance Mix) 6:32--their first number one pop hit . This reached number 15 club in 1984.
4- Dusty Springfield- In Private (12" ) 7:12--produced by Pet Shop Boys in 1989 this track is up there with their work for Liza also in 1989. NRG house mix.
5- Ian Dury- Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick (1991 Remix) 6:49-- not the original 1979 version but quite good.
6- Debbie Harry- French Kissin' In The USA (LP mix) 5:11-- a huge college radio hit in 1986 and hit number 57 pop. This went to number 44 club sales that year. Classic Debbie!!!!
7- Go West- We Close Our Eyes (12" ) 6:02-- hit number 5 club chart in 1985. NRG dance at it's best.
8- Heaven 17- Let me Go (Extended ) 6:13- a major dance track of 1982/83 going to number 4. Very Euro sounding while having a slight hip hop beat thrown in. Excellent.
9- Kim Wilde- Love Blonde (12") 5:00- Excellent track from Kim's early days. From 1983 it sounds like The Cure's "Love Cats " to me.
10- The Belle Stars- 80's Romance (12") 6:47--- excellent remix for the all girl UK group. Great slice of 80's flashback music.
Excellent collection.
