Absolutely Beautiful Guitar Music.......2003-12-30

I have been playing guitar for over 35 years and began purchasing LP's by Los Indios Tabajaras (LIT) around 30 years ago. About five years ago, after the LP's started wearing out and CD's became popular, I got on the internet and purchased Serie Platino and Maria Elena/Always In My Heart through CDNow. I recommend Serie Platino highly, primarily because it contains "Penelope." For anyone who does not have the LIT version of Penelope and is trying to decide which of many CD's by LIT to buy first, I would strongly recommend picking a CD containing Penelope. In my opinion, it is probably one of the most beautiful, melodic songs ever played on guitar. I have sat and listened to it over and over on many occasions. Although there are several great songs on the CD, it is worth purchasing for Penelope alone.
I am now looking for a CD version of their "Casual Classics", but don't believe it is available, at least yet.

Touches the heart.......1999-10-17

I first heard them when I was 14yrs (1964) at a friends. His father made classical guitars as a hobby. My friend and I where of course Beatle fans but we loved Los Indios Tabarajas also. In fact we both learned to play classical guitar by listening to their music. Such talent!!!. I wish I could have seem in concert. Well this album represents very much the music that touched our hearts and continues to touch everyone else's that I introduce this music to no matter how young or old. Even my son is a fan of them, I hope to see more of their CD's in the future cause I wore out all of my LP's

Amazing voice!.......2003-06-24

I discovered Maria Dolores Pradera quite by accident. She's fantastic. I like making my own compilations, with my favourite songs, but when I tried to chose some from this disc, it was not very easy. In the end I chose 8 songs, but I love all of them. The music is romantic, the guitar is played beautifully, the rhythms, either soft and sensual or a bit more lively, pull at your heartstrings. And the voice...Oh, this voice...Like warm honey or melting chocolate, like a lover singing her love, a woman crying with passion.
A great CD in all respects. Buy it!

Maria Dolores Pradera must have a time machine, with which.......1999-08-05

she can visit the great South American cities of one hundred years ago. Those coastal cultures, which now exist only in some forgotten period architecture, come to life here in her music. She is truly a genius at interpreting the music of this time and place. No one does it better. I wish I could travel with her back to the Lima or Santiago of 1900. Fortunately, these cultures live again thanks to her. You can hear the warm summer nights of these places, and the eternal struggle between men and women. My favorites are songs like Fina Estampa, about a gentleman walking down the street, or De Carne y Hueso, about a woman who simply cannot understand her (ex?)novio. Atahualpa Yupanqui wrote the poignant Tu Que Puedes Vuelvete, and Pradera interprets his song about a wanderer and a river, brilliantly. Some collections are made up of mostly ho-hum music, with a few selections that stand out. This CD is wonderful listening from beginning to end. I'm sad because I know that few will ever hear this music. But at least this musical treasure exists, and I got my copy.

Fantastic Spanish Language Music.......2004-04-10

Camilo Sesto is, without a doubt, one of the best romantic songwriter/singers of any epoch. His songs reflect love and its many challenges. Every song on this CD is, in itself, worth the price of the CD. Your must hear "Con El Viento A Tu Favor", "Terciopelo y Piedra", "Si Tu Te Vas", at the least, and remember that he writes the majority of his songs!

I'm new to Hispanic culture & music. I bought a Jose Jose tape when in Ixtapa Mexico and didn't think anyone could compare. Being a curious type I began searching for other artists. Camilo Sesto surpassed my expections. The lyrics & musical arrangements are mesmerizing even to a grino.

I am very fond of Mariachi music and I must confess that I had never heard of Maria Dolores Pradera. I heard one of her songs for about two minutes on internet radio and I was struck by how "different" her voice is. On the spot, I decided to purchase the CD.

La Gran Dama de la Cancion.......2002-07-16

This magnificent Madrileña has become famous for singing the classic popular songs of Latin America. She is a masterful interpreter of this music, from the compositions of Argentina's Atahualpa Yupanqui, to Mexico's Jose Alfredo Jimenez, and has an astounding repertoire of over 500 songs.

Though her recordings have sold in the millions around the world, sadly, she's been vastly under-appreciated in the U.S. Her mellow voice is exquisite, her style a blend of simplicity and sophistication, and she's an enchanting presence as a perfomer, with incredible beauty and elegance.

In this collection of 20 songs, every track is a winner. The musicianship and arrangements are marvelous, and the sound is good. Total time is 54'18.
This is a great CD for peaceful listening, and would also be the perfect accompaniment for a quiet dinner party, to go with the best of wines. There is a flowing grace to this music, a perfect balance...one of the reasons she is known as La Gran Dama de la Cancion.

I borrowed this CD from one of my friends. I didn't realize the charm of her songs until March 1st, 2002. That afternoon, I had a drink with my friend. By accident, my friend played this CD. Maria's rich voice and her powerful emotion surprisingly touched me. I started crying. I don't speak Spanish at all. But I really got sympathetic response from her beautiful voice.
Additionally, it's this CD that makes me indulge into latin ballads and boleros.

Maria Dolores Pradera has been my absolute favorite singer since childhood. No one comes even close to interpreting the awesome classics of Latin American Music in such a beautiful and heartfelt way. I am a true FAN of this woman, if you want to listen to pure beauty just buy this... Not a single bad song interpreted by the absolute BEST.

I grew up listening to the music of Maria Dolores from my mothers tape player. Only now do I realize the beauty of her music. Her songs of broken relationships are intesified with her powerful voice. The anguish of a lost love is realistically rendered through her voice. The pain projected in her voice is the closest replication of the true emotions of the songs. Finally, the guitars on most of the songs are beatifull.

Just another band from Buenos Aires.......2002-03-18

This band show their influences on their sleeves on this double CD compilation of tracks from 8 CDs. There are two bonus tracks, a remix of the excellent 'Mal bicho' and a mellow live singalong rocker, 'Igual a quien'.

I was deceived by the particapation of Mick Jones into thinking that the style of The Clash was the only well from which they drank. Instead, they show their assimilation of Madness, the Skatalites, the Beatles and Fishbone as well as the rhythms of Latin America such as Brazilian samba and drum choirs and tango from their native Argentina. Their version of 'Strawberry Fields Forever' is first rate with guest vocals by Deborah Harry of Blondie and tasty horn solos set to a strict ska tempo. Even my 75 year old mother likes that one!

It should be noted that the track listing for the second CD is incorrect and that most tracks on both discs are real corkers, as we say on my planet! Los Fabulosos Cadillacs are leaders of the 'rock en espagnol' (Rock in spanish) movement and my guess is that Los Lobos have a lot to answer for and that these boys deserve the praise. You don't need to speak Spanish to enjoy this album, but you do need to know how to have....FUN!

The music elements that this latin band uses is simply awesome. you can find infinity of styles like ska, reggae, rock and a lot more... the really fans of los fabulosos cadillacs will not find a real deal buyin' it, except for the 2 unedited songs, but for all the others that want to pick a real winner grab this cd inmediately!!!!

More of his timeless ballads........2006-11-05

During the 1970s and '80s, Jose Jose scored countless hit singles and albumswhich made him one of the most popular Latin balladeers of all time. "Lo Dudo", "Desesperado", "Corre Y Ve Con El", "Liora Corazon" and "Cuidado" are just a few of the all-time classics included here. Jose Jose is one of Latin music's all-time best crooners and this CD is a great compilation of his hits.

"El Principe de la canción".......2000-11-29

Jose Jose's powerful voice, and his phrasing on these romantic baladas is a marvel. Though I've found an occasional CD of his to have "fillers", this excellent compilation is nearly 75 minutes of great music. If you like Jose Jose, you can't miss with this one.

The best of the best are the 5 gorgeous Manuel Alejandro songs, "la Nave del Olvido", the rhythmic "Llora Corazón", "Donde Andarás", and "Más". These songs from the 70's and 80's will bring back memories for people my age, and the younger folk should listen and not forget one of Mexico's most unique musical voices.
