Queen of salsa Celia Cruz was royalty long before the music was even called that. 100% Azucar collects 19 tracks from her '50s and '60s output on the Seeco label. Smoking even at medium tempos, the disc is full of the hot mambo rhythms of the Sonora Matancera band and the full-throttle vocals of "la incomparable Celia." Included are both sides of one of her first singles, "Ritmo, Tambo y Flores"/"Elegua Quiere Tambo," along with other unstoppable body-rockers such as "Oye Mi Rumba" and "Mi Soncito." Informed, fascinating liner notes and reproductions of beautiful vintage album covers complete this prime package. --Rickey Wright

Queen of sasa.......2007-07-24
My package was shipped as fast as Celia Cruz moves on the dance floor. Thanks!
Unforgettable.......2006-02-17
This is one of the CD that really moves people who loved Celia. Her voice is so young and strong, amazing interpretation.
Awsome CD, but..........2005-02-22
... there are a lot of common tracks with the CD Celia Cruz (Cuban Legend). Otherwise, a Must Buy.
Celia Cruz was THE QUEEN.......2004-10-12
In this colection you have the opportunity to hear Celia Cruz as a young vocalist and you will instantly understand why she is considered such a legend. Due to the age of some of the recordings the sound quality is not the best but SHE is so good it doesn't matter.
A bit nostalgia!!!.......2003-08-30
This album is great. It shows Celia's voice young and crisp. I loved her energy and kindness towards others. We will miss Celia.
This album takes you back in time. It shows why Cuban music is so awesome and why it is loved worldwide.

A high point for '70s salsa!.......2003-03-03
For a brief time in the late 1970s, salsa music seemed poised to crack into the American mainstream, with slick Latin rhythms suffused throughout the jazz fusion world, and hints of Cuban son rhythms creeping into the Miami disco scene. The Fania All-Stars, as the name would imply, was a celebrity-packed jamfest, with a rhythmic core drawn from the ranks of the Fania label's roster, including Johnny Pachecho, Bobby Valentin, Papo Lucca, Roberto Roena, Johnny Rodriguez and others, along the elite of the booming North American salsa scene, artists such as Celia Cruz, Mongo Santamaria and Ruben Blades. This CD collects material from four albums the ensemble recorded for Columbia Records (in itself, a significant crossover milestone): 1976's "Delicate And Jumpy," 1977's "Rhythm Machine," "Spanish Fever," from 1978 and "Cross Over," from 1979. It's a solid, swinging set, ranging from reworkings of seminal Latin pop hits such as "El Manisiero (Yhe Peanut Vendor)" to more modern, aggressive dance tunes. This collection also offers plenty of strong performances and a good impression of the breadth of pop styles the All-Stars were willing to take on -- a dash of disco and '70s-style soul/R&B, some rock, and plenty of commercial and fusion jazz. Non-Latin guest stars include folks such as rocker Steve Winwood, soft-jazz saxman David Sanborn, soul singer Gwen Guthrie, and the inevitable Brecker Brother or two. All in all, a nice sampling of this well-named, well-regarded crossover crew. Recommended!

Classic tracks.......2006-04-18
This is the best Perez Prado album available. It has all the originals which were the best. Great sound considering the original hits (Mambo No.5, Mambo No.8, Que rico el mambo) were recorded in 1950. Ignore the first review that was written by someone who knows little about Perez Prado.
Poorly mastered, amateur mix.......2006-04-09
Only die hard fans of Prado or folks with no appreciation for a good sounding CD will dig this album. Each track has a different volume and quality level ranging from transistor radio to hifi. BUT, if you want to hear him at his best but can do without Cherry Blossom Pink, check out the CD 'PREZ' The Mambo King, Vol. 1 [Original recording remastered]. It's fantastico and sounds so good it's hard to believe it was recorded in '57. You will feel as if you are driving the strip in Miami in an old convertible.

Muy bueno (very good).......2004-04-24
Excelente selección de canciones, aunque faltaría otro disco para incluir otras 14 muy buenas (Canoa Ranchá, Etnia, la magia de tus besos entre otras).
The review by Mr. Canestro should be corrected as the country of Grupo Niche is Colombia (not Columbia) so Colombian is the right term; typical from one that thinks America is only USA ignoring it is a much larger continent (and can't spell spanish names right).
"The Best" ?.......2002-09-18
Grupo Niche "The Best" is a very good CD. I say this with reason, read on.
The list of songs will keep you dancing all night. I consider this compilation of songs to be a very good sample of their versatility of Columbian music.
The lead vocal and harmonic background vocals, are in a class of their own, along with an orchestra that kicks, (BIG TIME)!
Although I like this CD very much, I consider their CD "La Danza de la Chancaca" (The Dance of the Brown Sugar) to be their finest work to date! It contains most of these hits plus many more fantastic songs.
Being that the title "The Best" has already been used on the above featured CD, "La Danza de la Chancaca" should have been considered being called Grupo Niche's "COLUMBIAN GOLD".
One will never regret purchasing either of these two fine treasures! Dance-on amigo!
Salsera in Vancouver BC.......2000-10-12
Hi Everyone: This is a great album for Salsa dancers!! Every song has a perfect rhythm for the beginner to the advanced salsa dancer. The other Grupo Niche album for more salsa dancing material is `A Golpe de Folklore'. I heard this album while dancing on one of 8 Salsa Boats in up the Rhine in Germany, and loved it immediately!! (Germans are crazy for Salsa and Argentine Tango). You won't be disappointed buying this one!
Enjoy,
Monique
Para Gozar.......2000-05-13
This CD has alot of the Grupo Niches' greatest hits. You can dance to their music all night long it's defenitely recomended to all (SPECIALLY SALSA LOVERS) Don't only stop with this CD but listen to Tapando El Hueco you will defenitely love it!
Hit song after hit song!!!.......1999-03-14
This album has all of Grupo Niches greatest hits and every song is worth listening to. The beats are mellow and great to dance salsa with. You will get your monies worth with this one. It's a must buy!!

THIS IS THE BEST SPANISH DANCE CD.....ORO WWWWHHHOOOO?? I CAN LISTEN TO THIS CD FOREVER!!!
The best of the best, is just that! The Best!.......2000-10-01
This is by far the best CD's i've bought in a while. You can't help but dance every time you listen to oro solido's music. My favorite song is definitely "Esta Cache". I probably play that song about four times a day. Even if you are not spanish speaking, you can still appreciate the music. Go out and buy this CD. Oro solido is without a doubt "El Presidente del Merengue."
A Complete Compilation!!!!!.......2000-08-12
The title doesn't lie. What surprises me the most about this compilation is that all of the songs are the best ones from all of Raul Acosta's six albums. Starting with the worldwide hit, "La Tanga", it contains four songs from, arguably, his best album, "El Poder De NY". Believe me, this record cannot be dismissed. BUY IT NOW!!!!!
Merenguero de corazon.......2000-08-01
This is for the Merengueros: I love this cd, because it contains songs from other seleccions and this particular cd, contains also a mexican version from the song El baile del beeper, which is one of the songs playing right now in most latin clubs here in Chicago. This particular cd it would be a good seleccion for the merengueros de corazon (people who really like merengue, merengueros de corazon means, "merengue from our heart". This 16-track compilation demonstrates a sense of humor--or an awareness of its own cheese factor--by sandwiching "Lambada" between the Gipsy Kings' "Bamboleo" and the Bayside Boys remix of Los Del Rio's "Macarena." The spirit of fun keeps this otherwise hopelessly diffuse set from falling apart while dancing between the flamenco guitars of Carlinhos Brown's "A Namorada," a house remix of "Oye Como Va," and Quincy Jones's Austin Powers fave "Soul Bossa Nova." Those willing to let go will have hit the dance floor long before Beck ends the bash with "Burro," his suavecito mariachi version of "Jack-Ass." --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
Good spread of popular Latin songs.......2005-09-01
If you're one of those Latin song buffs, you might want to check this album out. It has a wide spread of Latin songs ranging from "La Bamba" to "Mas Que Nada". A good mix of ever popular songs and forgotten one.
First Nine Songs Are Cool, Rest Are Boring.......2003-07-31
I'm pretty happy with this CD. I think the first nine songs are pretty cool and enjoy dancing to most of them. These first nine tracks have very upbeat rythms. However, the rest of the songs are older and more boring. Perhaps it's just because I'm young, but I find myself skipping through those last several tracks. To be honest, if the last 7 tracks weren't as boring, I'd give this CD a higher rating.
I think it's cool that this CD has the Austin Powers theme song (track 9, "Soula Bossa Nova") on it. Yeah baby!
Don't be sucked in by the title!.......2002-12-02
This is not a PARTY album. That would be a collection of songs that make people want to feel festive, get up and dance, or otherwise celebrate. What this album is is a collection of popular to semi popular to rarely heard of "latin" tunes. Very few will make you want to get up and dance, or party much at all. Although there are some decent artists mixed in, the album, taken as a whole, is a yawn. This is not the "best party album in the world, ever", not even a FAIR party album. There's WAY better music out there for a party!
Fun stuff..........2002-03-08
I originally bought the CD for Beck's "Burro," which is the Mariachi version of "Jackass." The track is excellent... it's worth the price of the entire CD. The rest of the tunes are just an added bonus (except the annoying "Hot, Hot, Hot"). The CD is perfect for spicing up any party, whether on the dance floor, or simply as background music.
altered art=kaka.......2001-10-15
The changes to the original artists' work on this album cause significant loss to the music quality. What a disappointment!

Best Salsa in English, Maybe..........2007-01-10
Best Salsa in English, is a CD worth having in your collection. I am not certain that it is a must have, but worth having. While many of the songs/tracks had been previously released in "Put Your Heart On: Salsa in English, Vol. 1, 2, and 3" this CD provides a good balance and probably the best songs from the previously release tracks.

A listen to the "old Hawaii".......2007-07-20
A pleasant compilation of traditional (and a few "modern") Hawaiian songs... the best of which is probably the haunting "Hanalei Moon."
Even though Dennis is gone, Hui 'Ohana lives on!.......2004-07-26
It was a great idea to put a 'Best Of' Hui 'Ohana complilation CD together. Many of the early recordings are on this disc, including my personal favorite, Ku'u Home 'O Kahalu'u.
With Dennis gone now, it was heart warming to listen to the old melodies and think back to when these performances were originally recorded. The harmonies will live on forever, thanks to compilation CD's like this one.
