    Album Description

The guitar quartet is a type of chamber music group that emerged in the twentieth century and has grown steadily in popularity. At first, such ensembles performed only arrangements of other music, but gradually composers began discovering the rich variety of nuances afforded by a group of four identical instruments. The Cuarteto de Guitarras de la Ciudad de México (Mexico City Guitar Quartet) unites four young virtuoso performers of the instrument who have put their talents to the service of chamber music and have developed a complicity amongst them where listening is as important as playing. They go beyond a mere musical discipline and order through the exploration of subtleties of color, dynamics, perspective, and participation. These ingredients are present in each measure of this recording. It is a project that-instead of looking for an easy success with a repertoire made up of well-known arrangements-is a true anthology of works written specifically for the! Quartet by some leading contemporary Mexican composers, all of them very directly associated with the guitar.
