Moody, atmospheric melodies and equally emotive vocals haunt much of Nadie Esta Solo, the gripping third disc from Italian singer Tiziano Ferro. Gorgeous ballads glide against more uptempo tracks, and it makes for an alluring mix. First single "Stop! Olvidate" is an effortless blend of electrified vocals and menacing beats, while "Y Raffaella Es Mia" is a slinky tribute to a renowned opera diva. '80s-inspired grooves and retro rhythms flavor much of Nadie Esta Solo, most notably during "Baciano Le Donne." Ferro presides over it all with a quiet, charismatic, confidence; he's equal parts Alejandro Sanz, Eros Ramazzotti and Robbie Williams (without so much cheekiness). It's all quite good, but Ferro shines brightest amid the lovely light of "Mio Fratello" and "Mi Credo," a misty duet with Mexican singer Pepe Aguilar included as a bonus track. --Joey GuerraCustomer Reviews:
Spanish madrelingua speakers love Italian -- consider buying TZN's native Italian-language version.......2006-08-13
Eleven very entertaining songs -- one in duet with the best-selling Italian recording artist Biagio Antonacci (it works) -- make a worthwhile purchase. If you have listened to Tiziano's other two albums to date, the sound is similiar, though -- as stated here on amazon -- more mature. Some of them have a more electronic sound, but -- again as stated above -- the whole album cannot be characterized as "electronic." TZN's passionate voice is strong in each recording, from the laments to the aggressive dance-floor rhythms. Three songs fit the dance category: STOP! Dimentica, E Raffaella e' mia, and Baciano le donne. I'm generally NOT a techno fan, or a dance music fan (exceptions are the many classics like "Superfreak"). I love the Italian language, and, as I've stated in my other "reviews" of Italian recording artists, the lyrics are enunciated (studenti d'italiano!), passionate, and fun (despite the melancholy themes/tone of many of them). The lyrics are all listed, in Italian, in the accompanying insert-booklet. Tracks are:
Tarantola d'Africa -- Ti scattero' una foto -- Ed ero contentissimo -- STOP! Dimentica -- E fuori e' buio -- Salutandotiaffogo -- E Raffaella e' mia -- La paura che... -- Baciano le donne (feat. Biagio Antonacci) -- Gia' ti guarda Alice -- Mio fratello
And let the CD play through to the very end as you will hear a hidden track with a very young Tiziano (he dates the recording at 1987) practicing a song. Though charming, his voice doesn't sound very promising. I guess Ferro's success should be all the more encouraging to parents with budding vocalists.
N.B.: Do a TITLE search on amazon to find several listings of NESSUNO E' SOLO -- some links are much less expensive than others (including those to other vendors).
To find the lowest price, Amazon patrons must often be creative with their search techniques. Try artist name alone, artist and keyword in title box, even try a possible mispelling if you can't find what you're looking for. Data entry can be problematic when there are as many products offered on Amazon and pressure on staff to enter the info quickly.
NESSUNO E' SOLO (and the other two CD-albums (and some CD-singles) by Ferro are also available in SPANISH LANGUAGE VERSIONS here on amazon.
P.S. Another Italian singer-songwriter/musician, the ROK STAR Gianluca Grignani, has recorded (only)his first (of many) CD release(s) in Spanish: DESTINO PARAISO. If you enjoy "TZN" you may enjoy Grignani as well.
You can clearly listen to his music evolution... STILL there's something missing..........2006-07-30
Tiziano Ferro's third production opens with "Tarántula de África"; an excellent song where you can listen to his evolution: this song has great musical arrangements and the instrumentation is just great. At some times, this song reminds me Train's "Drops of Jupiter" or one of those instrumental-rock songs. Next we have "Te Tomaré Una Foto"; a pretty ballad with a great acustic guitar intro and has a great potential to become another of his hit-single. "Y Estaba Contentísimo" is an excellent sad-tempo ballad with great arrangements and also a great single-potential.
Song #4 is the first single: "Stop! Olvídate", an 80's-sampled song which also reminds us Kelly Osbourne's "One Word". This is JUST A LITTLE BIT more like Tiziano Ferro's first Pop/R&B songs, but yet sounds completely different. The chorus at "Y Está Oscuro" might remind us a lot like "No Me Lo Puedo Explicar". "Despidiéndoteahogo" is also a sad, yet powerful song.
The we arrive to the first Pop song: "Y Raffaella Es Mía", whick talks about a fan's obsession for Italian diva Raffaella Carra; it's a funny-catchy song, but will never be a single. Next we have "El Miedo Que...", which can become this album's "Tardes Negras"-like hit-single: it's a sad ballad full of beautiful arrangements and a powerful lyric. "Baciano Le Donne" is an excellent 80's-like Pop/Dance song that WILL make you dance, and it's also Tiziano Ferro's third duet in his career, this time with Biagio Antonacci. "Gia Ti Guarda Alice" is a slow ballad, and "Mio Fratello" is that sad song that always signs the end of his album, just like "Il Bimbo Dentro" and "13 Anni/13 Años".
Generally it's a great album, but Tiziano Ferro's formula of 2-Step-Pop-R&B-catchy-dance songs is -once again- not found in this third album as it was in his first and lost in his second; and this formula may have possibly disappeared. I recommend this album to everyone who likes ballads... because these are just EXCELLENT in this new material!
Well.... Dunno............2006-07-28
If you like calm balads or are a fan of Tiziano, then you'll like it, but if you don't.... Better don't buy it.
Third time's a charm..........2006-07-24
As for the lyrics: I agree with the previous reviewer, they are a bit...creative, but hey, call me shallow, but I don't listen to TzN entirely for the lyrics. His soulful delivery, killer backing tracks, and uptempo grooves are the draw for me (he could be singing the phonebook backwards and I'd still buy it).
I feel that "Nessuno e solo" has built on Tiziano's maturation as a singer/songwriter. TzN is one of the few artists who's escaped the dreaded "sophomore slump": after a stellar debut, I always find subsequent albums lacking (like Dido, Lhasa, and Nelly Furtado's second albums). However, Tiziano is just as intensely listenable as when I first heard him on the radio in Northern Spain four years ago.
I would love to see him come out with an English-language album after his English stint on Xdono (English version) and Universal Prayer with Jamalia on 2004's Olympics album---he has the potential for North American crossover success with his addictive blend of strong ballads, trendy sampling, and Italian-influenced soul and R&B.
Stop! Olvidate! Tiziano?? Stop! Forget About It! .......2006-07-09
I'm a big fan of Tiziano since Rosso Relativo, which was a more R&B/Pop album with influences of 90's R&B and a more recent soul. Then 111 was another record taken to a more soft side of R&B turning it to classic R&B and giving a more ceremonial sound. When I heard that he was about to sing a duo with Laura Pausini I was wondering how it would sound. So I bought this record wanting to hear the duo but ain't nothing about that so don't hope you'll hear of it in here.
Now as I was saying Tiziano was taking the big long R&B road when he stopped to be a more 80's trendy (like Nelly Furtado did, or Justin will or Madonna) So took and sample a very odd hit of 80's song "Fade To Grey" and used it to create the Stop! Olvidate! which is a cool song and a very understandable by the way, comparing that usually Tiziano writes really weird things.
The album is a compilation to R&B tracks with influence of 80's dance or 80's slow jams plus dance tracks such as lampy-dumpy Y Rafaella es mia (And Rafaella is Mine) The song talks about fan obsession with italian diva Rafaella Carra. The song is so damn stupid that I felt sorry of Rafaella. Another lampy dumpy song is Tarantula De Africa (Africa's Tarantula) which talks about a tarabtula (really not joking Tiziano sings like he was a tarantula) The topic song is interesting and being an animal song has been considered really hard writting process (a good example of a good created song based on an animal is "Ballena Azul" of peruvian band NSQ y NSC) The song goes around and around of if the tarantula feels free and if its life would have changed if it would have been other animal or been in another place but in a cadge. Well, as I explained it do feels like it's a dumb topic.
Ballads like Te Tomare Una Forto (I'll Take A Picture Of You) and El Miedo Que (The fear that...) are really good but average compared to Sere Nere or Alucinado. I don't believe the album is bad compared to last releases cuz the last ones were also kind a missing - something. This one is ten times worst... this isn't Tiziano at all. It's more like a very odd guy who writtes weird things (or nonsenses) and believes he's a singer. Don't expect to hear a more mature vocal artist in here, a difference of 111 in this album Tiziano don't show off his vocals skills as much as he did before but he forgot that his voice sounds incomplete without his high notes.
Recomendation before you buy it: I might not like this as much as you could so hear previews of the song so you'll be more in touch of it.

Perfect Performances.......2007-07-11
The transmission of musical culture is a favorite (and fascinating) subject for Jordi Savall and this CD includes some beautiful and rousing music. The CD begins with four selections reflecting Iberian music that sets the stage of presenting a song (usually) followed by a dance. Following this introduction we are off the Americas and music from Peru, Guatemala and Mexico.
As pointed out in the booklet, the colonial expansion that took place during the 15th and 16th centuries widen cultural connections to include Africa, Asia and the Americas, which is reflected in this collection of music. One will discover a mixing of African dance rhythms and percussion with European polyphony. This is nicely demonstrated by the first selection with its strong use of drums and bold brass playing combined with a fast-paced dance melody and mixed voices. The second work, by an anonymous composer, is quite a contrast with its more restrained and courtly rhythms played by string instruments without the percussion or brass. The Hanacpachap Cussicuinin is scored for percussion, brass and voices sounding like a solemn funeral procession and is followed by a beautifully played piece for harp and percussion from Mexico. The incomparable Montserrat Figueras sings with peerless passion and beauty, particularly in the short Tono Hidalgo of Juan Hidalgo. One could go on and on extolling the wonderful music of this CD, suffice it to say that among my collection of early music discs this one is at the top.
As with all of Jordi Savall's recordings the performance is excellent and beautifully balanced with voices and instruments receiving equal emphasis. If you do not have this disc and love early music get it without hesitation.
Mucho me pesa la cabeza.......2007-07-02
Again and again we hear "Mucho me pesa la cabeza"..... "Much it pains my head."
This music is so ephemeral... so unique.... so mind massaging..... I love reading while it softly plays in the background in the room!
The massage is quite expansive!
Not a painful massage at all, but it does get inside your head!
Just Get it!.......2006-08-20

ýCreoleý Songs and Dances from Old Spain to the New World.......2004-05-16
My translation of the album title, given above, is not exact. "Criolla" can refer to anything Latin American, and a "villancico" is first and foremost a Spanish poetic genre from the 15th and 16th centuries. The Norton/Grove Concise Encyclopedia tells us that it was "originally derived from a medieval dance lyric and associated with rustic or popular themes." Certainly the rustic and popular loom large in this lively selection of Renaissance music. Hesperion XXI and its director Jordi Savall have often sampled folk styles in their imaginative reconstitutions of early performance tradition. So most of these selections get percussion accompaniment accentuating the dance element, while strumming guitars, castanets, maracas, and more are employed discreetly but effectively. Lusty and characterful vocal contributions come courtesy of La Capella Reial de Catalunya and soprano Montserrat Figueras, who takes a couple of fine solo turns. It's all recorded in a warm, resonant church acoustic.
In his liner notes, Prof. Rui Vieira Neri introduces the Spanish part of this collection by noting a long tradition of mixing high and low culture, not to mention Christian, Jewish, and Muslim cultural elements in the art and music of the Iberian peninsula. And right away we get to hear a vocal chaconne (a dance imported from the Indies "by mail" according to Lope de Vega) and a Moresca "Di Perra Mora," with strong Arabic flavor and hints of 5/2 meter.
Of the New World selections, some of the most engaging combine indigenous languages with Netherlands musical style. The solemn processional hymn "Hancpachap cussicuinin," written by a native composer in the Quechua language of Peru, was also the first example of polyphony printed in the Americas. Gaspar Fernandes (1570-1629), chapel master at the Puebla cathedral, wrote a number of villancicos that mix Castilian with Nahuatl, the Aztec tongue, including "Tleycantimo choquiliua" on this recording. It is based on a local Indian dance, as is another Christmas villancico included here, "Ay que me abraso," which moves to the beat of the Mexican guaracha.
Bantu and Yoruba phrases crop up frequently in the refrains of the African-influenced numbers, so numerous in their day that they were customarily referred to in the old manuscripts as Negro, Negrilla, or Guineo. Savall includes three such pieces on this recording; they abound in the sort of rhythmic intricacies and call-and-response effects that Europeans already associated with Africa. Among the most infectious is "Antonya, Flasiquiya, Gasipá," in which the song's characters wake up after a long night of drinking and dancing in order to go to Bethlehem to pay homage to baby Jesus, where more carousing will be called for. Each refrain ends with the words "Mucho me pesa la cabeza": "Oh, my aching head."
I wouldn't want to give the impression that this music will appeal mostly to scholars. In fact, it is simply full of human joy, tenderness, and fun, qualities that leap across the centuries at us and need no special pleading, thanks to the terrific performances on this CD. You will enjoy it.

EXCITING MUSIC.......2006-03-25
Let's come to the inside of it.It has all kind of music forms composed by llobet such as;Catalan Folksongs,Preludes,Folksongs,Etudes,Mazurkas,Romanzas and even Variations which I liked most. They have really been arranged nicely and the Llobet himself composed beautifuly(they say Llobet opened a new period for the guitar music at the early 1900's; they are right.)
You can't find most of the pieces on other CD's they are really "rare" pieces and the affordible price makes the CD even more nice.
Most of the tracks are short about 1 or 2 minutes but the total playing time is OK that means there's a lot of track in it(41 tracks).
What about the guitarist.Lorenzo Micheli.I know much guitarist but I have heard Micheli with this CD.It's good to be me that I heard Micheli. He plays the guitar with his soul,so sweet guitar really. And also the technique is one of the factors that makes this CD amazing because without a good technique you can't hand over most of the tracks such as Repuesta.
It is certain that this music gives us a joy and "also" I didn't know Llobet composed such great works I means the listener gets informed about it.
1)GOOD COLLECTION
2)PRICE
3)GOOD GUITAR PLAYING
4)EXCITING AND ORIGINAL WORKS FOR GUITAR
...they are the reasons you should buy this CD.

With this disc, Chanticleer, the internationally renowned, all-male 12-voice chamber choir, celebrates its 25th anniversary. Presenting songs from earlier albums plus one not previously recorded, the selection displays the group's remarkable stylistic and linguistic versatility, as well as all the qualities that have made it famous: the impeccable precision and intonation; the pristine tonal purity; the deep, inner expressiveness; the infinitely variable range of colors, textures, dynamics and moods; and the incredible vocal control that allows voices to stand out as well as to blend into a seamless, sonorous whole. Not for nothing has the group been called "an orchestra of voices" with its ability to sound like a big band in chordal passages and to imitate bass pizzicati as well as patter-songs and gospel shouts. The sopranos take off into stratospheric heights with florid coloratura; it is hard to believe that these are male voices. The program ranges from Gregorian chant and liturgical music of the 16th and 17th century, through traditional and jazz-influenced folk songs and spirituals (some in deplorably bad arrangements), to works by contemporary composers. Chanticleer's mostly vibrato-less vocal style still reflects its roots in its original Renaissance repertoire, but the way the singers use their voices in the popular, jazzy songs makes one aware of the evolving kinship between the two traditions. Though primarily an a capella ensemble, Chanticleer is occasionally joined by various instrumental groups, from period instrument orchestras to a jazz trio, and Dawn Upshaw adds her radiant, smiling, unmistakably "real" soprano to a delightful, high-spirited performance of a Spanish Carol. This disc is a fine, varied sampling of Chanticleer's discography and should inspire listeners to search out all the complete albums. --Edith EislerCustomer Reviews:

A must for a Placido fan.......2005-04-23
Great for what it is.......2005-01-13
I found this to be beautiful and exhilirating to listen to.
Certainly not ALLL the Essential Domingo.......2005-01-03
There is an "edge" to Domingo's voice that perhaps accounts for his ability to transition successfully into the heavier repertory. I find that tonal quality particularly noticeable in this collection - and sometimes too pronounced. On the other hand, there are a few wonderful surprises. His "Una furtiva lagrima" from L'elisir d'amore is a stand out. Its rare you here a tenor with this much power sing the role. The duet "Bima dagli occhi" from Madama Butterfly with Renata Scotto, again casts Pinkerton with a quality tenor not often found in the opera house any more. I loved the selection from Gianni Schicchi - when is the last time you found Rinuccio cast with this size tenor voice - and the Italian tenor's aria from Rosenkavalier is a treasure from a recording currently out of print. And then there is one of Domingo's signature roles - Jack Rance in Puccini's La Fanciulla del West. No one sings Rance better than Domingo - and the excerpt from the complete recording finds Domingo at his very best.
Disk two is devoted to song - popular and classical. There is a fair amount of tripe - too much cross over (as in who needs to hear Domingo sing "The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha - Broadway is not Mr. Domingo's genre). But there are some wonderful cuts as well - "Granada" is a Domingo encore specialty, and I was particularly struck by the song "In Pace" from the motion picture Hamlet - I never saw the film and was truly taken aback at how beautiful a song this is, and Domingo's voice soars.
I found the sound of these CD's a bit "tinny". Perhaps its the analogue to digital conversion, but I was disappointed in the overall sound. The album is badly mistitled "The Essential Placido Domingo". Certainly this is some of the essential Domingo - and some very wonderful examples of the lyric Domingo - but there is clearly a volume two to come - the dramatic Placido Domingo. But why wait - buy this fine collection, and then feast on some of the complete recordings such as Otello or Lohengrin.
Solid, comfortable, familiar -- very good!.......2005-01-01

"New Spain" comes roaring to life on Missa Mexicana. The disc's mainstay is a Mass setting by Juan Gutiiérez de Padilla, who was appointed maestro de capella at Mexico's Puebla Cathedral in 1629. Although Padilla was born in Andalucía, his work came to embrace Mexico: the rhythms of its dances, the exuberance of its song, and the textures of its popular instrumental ensembles (complete with guitars, percussion, and shawms). Padilla was not a pioneer in this regard; at the time, Spain's sacred music was also greatly influenced by secular sounds. But perhaps the greatest draw of this repertoire, as Andrew Lawrence-King shows off so well, is the tight interweaving of European, Native, and African cultures in Padilla's Mexico, and how he and his contemporaries utilized all of these cultural streams in their own work. Bolstered by an array of other compositions of the age, Lawrence-King makes a strong case for 17th-century Mexico as a cultural crossroads, not merely as a remote outpost of Spanish influence. One prime example is Santiago de Murcia's "Cumbées," with its call-and-response vocals, delicate, mbira-like instrumental interlude, and earthy drumbeat recalling West African music. Another is Padilla's own Christmastime negrilla, "A siolo flasiquiyo," which invites worshipers to dance the guacambe, canario, and villano to celebrate the Messiah's coming. As on his other recordings, harpist and conductor Andrew Lawrence-King has brought together a host of today's most respected early music specialists for this trip to Mexico, including soprano Ellen Hargis, bass Paul Hillier, and gamba player Hille Perl. Lawrence-King himself performs on the Spanish harp, organ, and psaltery. As one might expect from such a gathering, the ensemble is top notch, in both technical expertise and musicianship. The singers (and instrumentalists) are equally comfortable in both Missa Mexicana's religious and earthly spheres, moving from a Gloria to a bawdy song with ease. --Anastasia TsioulcasCustomer Reviews:
Missa Mexicana - Ecstacy and Ear Candy.......2007-07-26
Melody, instrumentation, harmony, rhythm, poetry - it's all there in combinations unheard of before, new and ancient at once. This is how music SHOULD sound!
One of the most interesting and best recorded Early Music programs available.......2006-09-26
On this release, Andrew Lawrence-King has paired each of the Mass' five movements with one or more dance pieces either composed by Padilla or another contemporary composer. This purpose of this approach is to bring together Padilla's vibrant Mass, which itself is permeated with dance elements, with the actual dance pieces (ex: villancicos) that influenced Padilla. In addition to impacting the style of Padilla's sacred works, such dance pieces were actually included on church programs in 17th-century Mexico. Church authorities were a bit ambivalent about the inclusion of such dance pieces on church programs, as they were seen as being "excessively arousing" by some, but others noted that such pieces brought people into church which would not otherwise attend.
Despite being relatively unknown today, Padilla was obviously a first-rate composer. What makes his music remarkably fascinating is how naturally he combines Spanish and Italian stylistic elements with the harmonies and rhythms of the New World, in addition to African music brought to Central America by slaves. Padilla's "Negrilla" (Track 10) for instance, incorporates African rhythms and drums with elements of the European Renaissance. The end result is mesmerizing, especially the complicated and thrilling conclusion. The "A la xácara xacarilla" (Track 7) combines native percussion instruments with a bajón (precursor to the bassoon) and guitars in an intoxicating dance melody. The vocalists in particular do an outstanding job in breathing life into this piece through their enthusiastic and characteristic singing. The final piece on the program, the "Guaracha," itself alone is worth the price of the CD. More than being "excessively arousing" this piece, employing virtually every music instrument known, is downright exhilarating.
The ensemble performing this music is incredibly varied, and includes a large contingent of Mexican baroque guitars, a sackbut, a shawm, a Spanish harp and a percussion section consisting of all types of drums, a rainstick and even a conch shell. The vocalists and instrumentalists provide very enthusiastic and characteristic performances. The sound quality here is audiophile quality.
In short, this disc belongs in any collection of Early Music, but those out there who are not fans of the genre would find much to like here as well. This is fantastic music, which is marvelously performed and recorded. A winner on all accounts.
Highest recommendation!!

Ridiculously fine recording.......2006-09-18
Superb - if idiosyncratic - performances!!.......2005-05-23
In truth, it is perhaps difficult to know how representative of 17th century Mexico this recording is, and for the purist there are certain issues which may raise a few eyebrows...[Padilla's 42-part choir is reduced to a handful of soloists; Santiago de Murcia's 'Cumbees' - primarily intended for guitar - are arranged for harp and interspersed with pseudo-African scat-syllabic improvisations, rendering the notated 'golpes' practically inaudible; Juan Cabanilles' 'Corrente Italiana' - originally for organ - is transfered to a continuo group of harp, bajon, guitars and percussion; etc....]
Yet given the strength of the performances, these musicological quibbles perhaps loose their significance. These are truly stylish interpretations combining flair with panache, and the line up includes some excellent (and well-known) exponents of early music.
Incidentally, if you've enjoyed this recording, you should also explore similar (if not even better - if that's possible!) ones by Jordi Savall & Hesperion XXI ['Villancicos y danzas criollas', Alia Vox AV9834] and Gabriel Garrido & Ensemble Elyma [in particular 'Fiesta Criolla', K617139 and 'Juan de Araujo - L'Or et L'Argent du Haut-Perou', K617124].
