    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Pedro Vargas- "El Tenor De Las Americas en Cuba" Vol.1.......2000-05-05

Since the late 30's Mexico's internationally acclaimed singer/bolerista Pedro Vargas visited Havana,Cuba and quickly won the love and admiration of the cuban fans. His fans liked him so much that they wouldn't stand for prolongued absences, so for about 20 yrs. or so (1930's through 1958)every time Vargas left Cuba to return to his native Mexico or to complete a Latin America tour, he would always return to Havana shortly after leaving . Vargas loved being in Cuba so much that it was rumored that he even purchased property there and also invested in a small business. Rumor also had it that he often spoke about dual retirement spots in Mexico and Cuba, when the time came. Tours to appear on cuban radio, theatres, recording sessions and after 1950,television, sometimes protracted from weeks to months. He really loved being there and so did his thousands of cuban fans. The recordings on this great "Tropical Series" CD were among the last he made in Cuba, before leaving for good. Vargas never returned after Castro took over on 1/1/59. The great orchestras of famous cuban maestros and composers Adolfo Guzman and Rene Touzet, provide an absolutely brilliant musical background to these boleros sung by Vargas in his usual "suave" style. Classic boleros like "Profecia", "La Barca", "El Reloj", "Franqueza", "La Noche de Anoche", "Anoche Aprendi", etc. can be heard like never before, thanks to series producer Domingo Echevarria, painstaking job in enhancing its sound by procuring fist generation analog master tapes and the absolute best sounding second generation master tapes. As usual assisting Echevarria in this endeavor is his veteran engineer Dick Baxter. Do not miss this great BMG/Tropical Series classic!
