Not content with the simplistic "crossover" formula, superstar tenor Andrea Bocelli has been pursuing alternative paths since he emerged as a vocal phenomenon in the mid-1990s: operatic classics and contemporary popular song. The singer's last few albums have showcased his love for the former (including homages to his beloved Verdi: the Requiem and Verdi aria collection). But Cieli di Toscana ("Tuscan Skies") marks a triumphant return to the pop idiom last explored on Sogno, offering a highly varied series of the kind of beautifully crafted contemporary melodies that initially won Bocelli acclaim.

The familiar cast of songwriter-collaborators (including Francesco Sartori, responsible for the smash success "Time to Say Goodbye") mixes with new blood; Bocelli himself unveils his songwriting talents on "Il Diavolo e l'Angelo." It's a highly produced affair, but behind all the gloss, Bocelli sings with a newfound, relaxed, even mellow quality. There are intimately touching moments--"L'Incontro," a tribute to his first son featuring Bocelli's own poetry as read by U2's Bono--as well as soaring flights of lyricism (the duet "L'Abitudine" with Italian singer Helena). And on "Mascagni," with its quotes from that composer's operas, Bocelli makes another nod to his classical affinities. But whatever the style, Bocelli is a singer who knows how to go straight to his listeners' hearts. --Sarah Chin

Just what it says. See my other Andrea Bocelli reviews to get the idea I really like this guy.

5 out of 5 stars Emotional therapy!.......2007-05-14

"He is all heart; there's no pretense. You can feel it." No kidding. These were my mom's last comments about Bocelli two months before she left earthly existence.

This album helped me process a lot of emotional residue affiliated with the strain of difficult dynamics between my mom and myself.

Don't get me wrong. The music isn't sad; it's pure heart and emotion, so it may evoke emotions. The last cut, "L'Ultimo Re" is gorgeous with the way his voice soars!

5 out of 5 stars Great music!.......2006-12-18

I bought the album before listening to any of the songs, because i'm a Bocelli fan. I was not disappointed. Wonderful melodies, beautiful voice. My personal favourites are Melodramma, Chiara and Resta Qui, but this is a great cd overall.

5 out of 5 stars Cieli di Toscana.......2006-08-25

There is no other voice quite like Andrea's voice. I keep listening to this CD over and over as some of the songs just touch my heart, both with his voice and the written arrangements. One of my very favorites from Andrea. He has the same qualities to his voice with popular songs as he does with opera. When following the English translations in the CD case, the message of each song becomes very clear through the inflections and tonal quality of his voice.

If one's notion of "world music" promises a touch of the exotic and indigenous, often overlooked is the fact that the influence of western pop music has seeped into every corner of the globe, creating a hybrid that's often more than merely the sum of its influences. Theater vet Brightman steps into that pan-cultural hall of mirrors here, wedding her fascination with the music and rhythms of the "forbidden places" (the title's Arabic meaning) of the Middle East to her own oft ethereal vocal charms and rock-solid sense of drama. And if the diva's equally sound crossover sensibilities (and that of longtime producer Frank Peterson) sometimes mire it in familiar world-beat pastiche, Brightman's charmed muse manages some transcendent moments nonetheless. Her musical borrowings (Borodin for the title track; Puccini's *Madame Butterfly* for "It's a Beautiful Day") are as compelling as her choice of collaborators: classical violin star Nigel Kennedy and Iraqi vocalist Kadim Al Sahir add compelling touches to the weary timeliness of "The War is Over." The musical influences range from Europe across the Mediterranean and as far East as the Indian roots of "Bollywood" composer A.R. Rahman's "The Journey Home" and Brightman's own "You Take My Breath Away" to evocative recastings of the emblematic standards "Stranger in Paradise" and Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World," while ex-Killing Joke keyboardist Jaz Coleman provides the savory East-meets-West orchestrations that ensure Brightman's star turns the seamless foundations they deserve. --Jerry McCulley

I'm very new to Sarah brightman's music and I enjoy this CD. I think she has an amazing voice. Very talented young woman and this cd was very relaxing and joyful to listen to. I like to learn and heard more from Sarah Brightman.

3 out of 5 stars Stranger in Paradise - More Like Stranger in a Lost Cause.......2006-12-30

I'm not throughly pleased with this album! This CD is only good if you know how to dance in a Middle-Easters fashion. About half of each track is dominated by all orchestrations and no Sarah. Plus, Pop-Sarah isn't really for me. I much prefer the Classical-Sarah. Some of the tracks are okay, like "Harem", "The Journey Home", "Beautiful", and "Stranger in Paradise". Really, this is a good CD for your collection, but I wouldn't listen to it on a 24/7 basis.

5 out of 5 stars No voice like hers in the world.......2006-10-01

I own this cd. I saw her in person at the "Harem" concert. Never had I heard or seen any voice like this. What a performer, best concert I'd ever seen. Beautiful voice, I can never get enough of Sarah Brightman's music. It is so comforting at times. I have all her music and this cd makes you wonder, how can she top this? Thank you Sarah Brightman for giving us your beautiful gift of music.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Brightman, Her best CD........2006-09-18

Sarah is just the best, she can hit any note and her individuality shines on this CD. She sings "The Journey Home" from the musical Bombay Dreams and her voice just soars. "Harem", "Mysterious Ways" and "You Take My Breah Away" are songs that take me to dreamland. Amazing! A master piece!

Album Description

This recording presents a selection of some of the least and the best known exponents of twentieth century Latin-American guitar repertoire, among them the internationally renowned Argentinian composer Máximo Diego Pujol, whose Elegy for the death of a tanguero is an elegant homage to his compatriot, the father of the classical tango, Astor Piazzolla. Leo Brouwer is found in unusually lyrical mood and two of Piazzolla's most popular songs are heard in an arrangement by Colombian-born guitarist Ricardo Cobo.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Perfection.......2006-02-05

What can I say? Every piece on this recording I love, and Ricardo plays them all to perfection. This CD is sure to get more play than most of my other CDs. If you like classical guitar check out all the Naxos label CDs, I own like 4-5 of them, and they are all excellent listening. This one I must say stands out to me, but mainly because of my preference for Latin guitar music.

5 out of 5 stars Sensuous and poetic playing with amazing technique.......2004-08-17

Although I'm honestly tired of all the "Latin collection" CDs out there, this one is played by a "real" Latin and you can hear it from the first track. It is not only believable, but compelling. The poetry in Reis's two pieces (Track 2,3) is simply beautiful and Cobo's phrasing is refreshingly provocative rather than safe. This player's music is fluid, his sound silky and detailed, and his musical thinking exciting and natural. Although I have several versions of Piazzolla on guitar, these arrangements totally rock. Cobo's arrangement of "El Choclo" is dazzling, especially the last variation. Without saying more, every track on this recording is really special. Take it from a serious student of guitar and avid listener- this CD is a must-have if you like guitar.

5 out of 5 stars An eclectic collection of guitar music, wonderfully played!.......2004-07-07

This is my favorite CD of Latin American guitar music. Ricardo Cobo is a Columbian guitarist currently living in Las Vegas and his playing is among the best I've heard. As the liner-notes indicate, this CD features some well-known Latin American composers as well as some who are virtually unknown. (Outside of the Cuban composer Leo Brouwer, all the composers whose music is featured on this CD are South American.)

The pieces by Manuel Pujol are particularly moving (his work in homage to Piazzolla is alone worth the price of the CD!), as are the two works by the little known composer, Dilermando Reis. Also worth mentioning is Leo Brouwer's piece 'Un Dia de Noviembre,' a beautiful modal ballad (in the natural minor 'Aeolian' mode) that sounds almost like 'new age music' but that is more interesting and subtle. I don't particularly care for the two pieces by Astor Piazzolla (the 1st and last tracks on the CD), as I don't think they fit well with the rest of the CD's music, but overall this CD has enough beautiful guitar music to warrant many listenings. Some of the slower pieces are reminiscent of the music of the brilliant Paraguayan guitarist/composer Agustin Barrios, whose music was neglected for too long but is now getting serious attention (I would recommend David Russell's recording of Barrios' music for solo guitar -- simply beautiful).

And with Naxos' extremely low prices, you really can't go wrong with Cobo's CD!

5 out of 5 stars Great guitar CD.......2003-12-18

I've been waiting for this CD to come out. It was worth the wait. The pieces are familiar Latin guitar music. The playing is the best I've ever heard on any Cobo recording. His Latin soul comes through in this recording. With his superior technique he gets an amazing sound out of the guitar. The richness of this music comes through more with each listening. Buy this CD! You won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars If you like the tango or classical guitar, this is for you.......2003-12-15

I had looked forward to Cobo's release of this collection of Latin American guitar music. There are few players on the planet who can match his technique and sound (he won the prestigious Guitar Federation of America Competition in 1987), and fewer yet with such direct ties to Latin American music (he's a native of Colombia and has received that country's highest honors for accomplishment in the arts). The CD doesn't disappoint. Much of the music is familiar to guitarists, although not all from guitar renditions (Cobo has transcribed some popular tangos from piano or other mediums). Cobo's talent is apparent and consistent throughout. If you like the tango or similar music, and/or if you like to hear the classical guitar played well, you'll like this recording.

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable , this is Opera.......2007-06-26

These are opera melodies that have been adapted to some outstanding feature films. Looking at some of the scenes and hearing the music has enforced sight and sound. Even if you are not an opera buff or a movie buff you will be entralled by what you hear. You may even want to buy the film or the music album/

5 out of 5 stars For those who like the stirring operatic bits.......2004-04-29

I'm not a diehard opera fan. That means I can't sit through the no or low musical sections. After all, opera is a visual art as well as an aural one, and there's alot of low energy periods where one would have to be watching it live to avoid slipping into a coma. If that. I tend to like the arias and the duets. These are the bill of fare on this album, with a healthy portion of brain glue added by each piece's tie-in with a major motion picture. For instance, a favorite picture of mine is the Australian production of "Gallipoli", which depicts the carnage inflicted on Aussie and Kiwi troopers doing the Queen's dirty work with wave after wave of direct frontal infantry assaults against Turkish heavily fortified breastworks and murdurous interlocking fields of fire of many heavy machine gun positions and pre-sited mortar batteries. There is a certain eerie and sad scene depicting a couple of young Aussie junior officers, boys really, in the tent of a superior on the night before the early morning attack. The viewer has the superior vision of recorded history, while these apple cheeks have no inkling of the mailed fist that will hammer them down in a few hours. The older officer puts a platter on the crank up Victrola, and for most of us, we get our first introduction to the haunting strains of "Au Fond du Temple Saint" from the French opera "Pêcheurs de Perles". I'm sure a portion of the haunting and eerie qualities stem from my total lack of french language skills. That piece will forever be associated with the bloodbath at Gallipoli Peninsula, at least as far as my brain goes. And so it goes with many of the other pieces of music in this collection. From "Apocolypse Now" is included the best piece of music to attack an enemy by, "Ride of the Valkyries" from the famous AirMobile copter assault, an attack scene that redefined cinematic battle sequencing forever. Everyone should recognise at least one musical movie slice here.
Tie ins include Raging Bull, Fatal Attraction, and Someone to Watch Over Me.

5 out of 5 stars EDUCATIONAL.......2002-04-20

I BOUGHT THIS CD SOMETIME AGO WHEN I WANTED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT OPERA. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST CD'S OUT WHEN CONSIDERING TRYING TO TURN YOUNG PEOPLE ON TO THE ARTS, ANYONE WHO LISTENS TO THIS WILL DEFINETLY HAVE AT LEAST ONE FAVORITE.

5 out of 5 stars Some of Opera's Best Gems.......2002-04-01

I've long been an opera fan, so you might expect me to sneer at a compilation. Not so! For opera fans, this is a "stroll down memory lane," offering some lovely jewels from well-loved operas. For those new to opera, this is a wonderful introduction. Even if you don't know the language or the story, you will be utterly transported by several of these arias.

Just to whet your appetite, here are a few tidbits about some of my favorites on this CD:

- The angelic duet from Lakmé is about a sacred river in India whose banks are overflowing with fragrant spring flowers.

- In the duet from Les Pecheurs de Perles (Pearl Fishers), two men who are best friends sing rapturously about falling in love at first sight with a beautiful woman; for each it was an almost mystical experience. When they realize they are in love with the SAME woman, they are alarmed, and vow to not let anything destroy their friendship.

- "Quando m'en vo" from La Bohème is really funny because a woman is bragging loudly about how popular she is, to make an ex-boyfriend jealous. (It works, and she wins him back.)

- The second aria from La Bohème--Mimi's dying words to her lover Rodolfo and her dear friends--is beautiful and touching. However, you should also hear the glorious songs that Mimi and Rudolfo sing when they first fall in love! (Those are not in this collection.)

- The dreamy and mysterious "Nessun Dorma" is sung by a man who eagerly anticipates being married to a beautiful princess the next day, but who may very well be put to death instead. His fate hangs in the balance as all the residents of ancient Peking stay awake all night, trying to discover his secret.

Of course, the only way to really know what opera is about is to go to a live performance, where you not only hear the glorious music but also enjoy the entertaining story, costumes, sets, and action. Good bets at first are operas by Puccini, Bizet, Mozart, Verdi, and Rossini--hold off on Wagner for a while! ....

For what it's meant to do, I would give this CD full marks (5 stars).

3 out of 5 stars Fine CD ,Lame DVD.......2007-01-28

I thought the sound quality on the cd was fine. But if you're buying this for the Concerto on the DVD you should know that half the time you won't be seeing the concerto. Yes, while the musicians play you will frequently be shown statues, fountains, gardens and other pretty images that have nothing to do with the music and take up way too much time on screen. That kind of thing might fine on a tourism video which you might or might not watch once, but watching the concerto performance would have been far more interesting.

3 out of 5 stars Great playing but recording is a bit weak.......2006-08-18

The Rodrigo Collection is a compilation of Rodrigo guitar concerti recordings from 1975 to 1979. The guitar playing is robust, aggressive and macho, but not nearly as sensitive and deep as efforts by Pepe and Angel during the last decade. Twenty some years of practice and performing makes a big difference!

Although the recording quality is decent, it is not nearly as full bodied as modern digital recordings by the Romero brothers. The midrange is thin and slightly bright and stereo imaging flat. It's not a great digitalization and remix of an analog recording. Lastly, the "Shadows and Light DVD" transfer from analog tape to DVD is terrible. If I didn't know I had put a DVD in the player I'd swear it was an old low rez video tape. Despite these warts, it's a must have for any diehard Rodrigo or Romero fan.

5 out of 5 stars The Rodrigo Collection.......2005-10-19

Here is a delightful combination CD and DVD with some of Rodrigo's most famous and lovely music. The DVD is especially touching and I got a new perspective on this unique composer and his music.

    5 out of 5 stars Great multimedia.......2005-09-13

The first CD is very good, the sound of the concerts is great, but the DVD is another thing, it's great to see Pepe Romero in the Aranjuez Concert and the documentary about the late great master Joaquín Rodrigo touch me very deeply.
My only regret it's that you can only hear the Aranjuez Concert if you play the DVD and not in a CD player (car for example)

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Piano Arias.......2006-03-19

This is a wonderful CD that is filled with beautiful Puccini arias played by a great pianist. I love to listen to it over and over since the music inspires me with thoughts of relaxation, exhilaration and peacefulness all wrapped into one. John Bayless truly captures the emotion of Puccini with his wonderful arrangements and musical skills. I recommend this CD for those who enjoy not only beautiful music but also love the piano.

5 out of 5 stars cocktails at La Scala.......2004-01-23

This is a superb collection of Puccini's melodies arranged and improvised for solo piano, and brilliantly played by John Bayless; it wrings every bit of emotion from these resplendent arias, some so tender and expressive, like the exquisite "Son Andati ?" from La Boheme.
Puccini once told a soprano to "walk in clouds of melody", and on this disc we have a celestial feast, making one realize how starved we are in today's world of great melodies, with so much of popular music very uninspired in this area, and classical music ignoring it.
Perhaps my favorite track is the gentle and passionate interpretation of one of opera's best loved arias, "E Lucevan le Stelle" from Tosca.

The way Bayless has transcribed this music and improvised on it is a stroke of genius, and very clever marketing as well, giving us a new, unique take on "opera lite", and one of the most enjoyable I've heard; his virtuoso technique is up to the task, and he manages to get a myriad of sounds and colorations out of the instrument.
This enthralling presentation of operatic themes is lighthearted and would make great background music, but is also much more; it's inventive and beautifully performed, is true to the emotional content of the original, and oh ! those glorious melodies.
The sound is crisp and clear, and total playing time 78'28.

    5 out of 5 stars Liberace lives!.......2002-11-15

If you enjoyed the flourishing style of Liberace, you'll love this wonderful schmaltzy tribute to Puccini. All the favorites are here from Un Bel Di to Nessun Dorma, played with extravagant passion by John Bayless. I like to play this CD on a rainy day with a cup of hot cocoa, close my eyes and just disappear into the sensuality of the music

    5 out of 5 stars Outstanding.......2000-12-18

I have owned this CD for seven years and I am always delighted to discover it again. For those who love the original voice arias and love the piano -- you will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Gorgeous music magnificently played with technique to spare.......2000-01-30

The first opera I ever liked was La Boheme and especially the solo arias in the first two acts. Bayless' rendition of Musetta's Waltz is the perfect blend of sweetness and bright shining light. He must have four hands, at least! Besides revisiting favorites that I knew and loved, this album introduced me to other Puccini operas that I was unfamiliar with. Like others who have reviewed this disc, I wanted a rating higher than 5 stars.

If you like classical music, enjoy spanish guitar, you will love this. It is lighthearted, uplifting, & joyful to listen to.

4 out of 5 stars Marriner and Romeros unbeatable.......2003-02-11

These are probably the best recordings of the Rodrigo guitar concertos available. There is noticeable analog tape hiss in the background but this is a small price to pay for these excellent, classic recordings. The technical precision of Pepe Romero on the guitar along with the excellent performance of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and the equally good sound engineering is a rare treat. Rodrigo and the Romeros seem meant to go together so this CD set is a must have. It's unfortunate that an equally good recording of the Concierto Serenata is not included. The performance on the harp is disappointing. I am puzzled why Catherine Michel breaks into chords where Rodrigo wrote arpeggios. If this is artistic license it is a poor choice. The sound of the harp often fades behind the sound of the orchestra too. The entire recording seems poorly engineered. The orchestra sounds distant, as if it is poorly mixed or too few microphones were used. In the absence of a better performance, the Concierto Serenata would have best been left off the disc.

    5 out of 5 stars 2'fer bargain.......2001-11-27

Wow!! Fantastic stuff that is highly recommended for classical music listeners old and new. Hats off to Phillips for collecting these songs by Spanish maestro Rodrigo and presenting them on two discs. Besides the more familiar fare like "Fantasia para un gentilhombre" and "Concierto de Arunjuez," which I never get tired of, there are various other conciertos that are so soothing and extremely relaxing. This is music to park your mind in tranquility bay with, a blissfull audio experience, orchestral nirvana for the classical music neophyte. The "Madrigal Concierto" is especially note worthy, the two guitars and orchestra are magical as they play in unison, elevating the listener to heights unknown and back. There are various performers on this disc and all are outstanding. The performance of Los Romeros on guitars and Catherine Michel plucking her heavenly harp are exceptional and simply perfect to my ears. These are all recordings from the 70's and early 80's but have been digitally remastered for a crystal clear sound. If you like the music of Joaquin Rodrigo you will love this compilation of 155 min+ of his best compositions at an incredibly low price.

5 out of 5 stars Inroduction to Rodrigo.......2001-07-28

I cannot compare these works with others by this composer because this was my first experience of him, but for the information of anyone else who is not familiar with Joaquin Rodrigo, I would describe him as a Spanish Aaron Copland in that they were contemporaries and they both incorporated national folk music into their compositions. It's difficult for me to imagine anyone of any age not enjoying these works.

5 out of 5 stars the best interpretation by the romeros.......2000-08-18

this cd are the best works for guitar by rodrigo, and the best interpretation by the romeros, especially Pepe Romero. His friendship with rodrigo was very important for the interpretation of the concierto de aranjuez and the concierto madrigal with his brother Angel. A great work and i am excited with this cd.

While the sales of Sarah Brightman's ambitious, Middle Eastern-themed 2003 album Harem may have fallen short of its predecessor, the veteran UK chanteuse's popularity as a live performer has only mushroomed. This live recording of her ambitious, sold-out Harem World Tour engagement at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Arena is testament to that appeal, begging the question: Will Brightman become the Grateful Dead of classical crossover? Indeed, abetted by the rich sonic textures of longtime producer/collaborator Frank Peterson, the worldbeat conceits of her recent studio recordings are folded into a larger, even more expansive live vision here. Brightman's overt dramatic instincts and oft-chaemeleonic vocal abilities drive a slate of material that stretches from the Arabian Nights/Madame Butterflypastiche of Harem's seductive "It's A Beautiful Day" through surprisingly effective classical/rock reinventions of Kansas' "Dust in the Wind" and The Moody Blues' chestnut "Nights in White Satin" to expected classical bowings "Nessun Dorma" and the obligatory nod to "Phantom of the Opera" Amazon.com

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING! She is so much better live!.......2006-12-02

This CD rocks! This is Sarah Brightman on her Harem World Tour, and this performance was recorded at her stop in Las Vegas. The first two tracks, "Kama Surta" and "Harem Overture" debut from her newest album, entitled HAREM. The two tracks are connected, but in the actual Harem Tour, the full piece "Harem" is sung. If you go to www.youtube.com and type in "Harem Tour" in the Search Bar, you can see live videos. I would prefer that the album has placed "Harem" instead of these other two tracks. The third track, "It's A Beautiful Day", is from Madame Butterfly, written by Puccini. This version is Brightman's twist, which some more pop and some English. It's pretty cool. The fourth track on the album, "Dust in the Wind" is from EDEN, an amazing album. Track 5 is, "Who Wants to Live Forever", and it seems as though Brightman never creates a tour without putting this piece in it. It's a beautiful tribute to Queen's rendition. Track Six is "Anytime, Anywhere", also from EDEN. I'm not really into the Foreign Language - English songs, but this works very well, especially because she ends the song with the classical foreign language. The seventh track is Brightman's rendition of Dvorak's "Song to the Moon", or "La Luna". The track is beautiful! The eighth track is Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", and Sarah masters this beautifully! There is no other soprano I know that can sing this piece one octave up and can hold the ending note for ever!!! Track 9 is "The War is Over", which is followed by "Free", both from HAREM. Track 11 is "A Whiter Shade of Pale", from LA LUNA. It's beautiful to listen to. Sarah's version is very gentle, but has a lot of energy in the chorus. The twelfth track on this album is "Twisted Every Way", followed by an instrumental version of "The Phantom of the Opera" Theme. The next track is "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", which is extended at the end, in which you hear some men cry out "WE LOVE YOU SARAH!", and she responds cutely with an, "I love you, too." The audience laughs! Track 14 is "Time to Say Goodbye", the duet that made Andrea Bocelli famous, and skyrocketed as the number one single sold in German history! The last live track on the album is "A Question of Honour", from "Fly", which is awesome! The last track on the album is a bonus track, which I don't really prefer. However, the whole album is simply amazing. I much prefer Sarah when she is live. She has a more magical quality! If you love Sarah Brightman, then you will love this album.

ALSO RECOMMENDED : Since there is so much Sarah Brightman to choose from, I also recommend EDEN, TIME TO SAY GOODBYE, LA LUNA, CLASSICS, and DIVA.

      What an album, absolutly beautiful!
We, the fans of this great artist finelly have in our hands a live album, and it's amazing:
-The voice is totaly live, she sang about 24 complete songs in the show, but the album only contains 15.
-Snow In The Sahara is a lovely song.

If you have the chase of get this alubum, don't doubt and get it; It wond disapoint you!

      5 out of 5 stars astounding performance.......2005-06-07

an impeccable concert experience that successfully elevates the album to majestic heights. I had long been a fan of Dead Can Dance and the unparalleled work of Lisa Gerrard. When Sarah Brightman ventured into these Middle Eastern sounds on the Harem disc, I thought it was too derivative of the Dead Can Dance sounds (there is even a sample used on one of SB's songs that had previously been used within DCD).

However, experiencing this epic and intensely mystical concert compelled me to realize the individual and unique glory of Sarah Brightman. Also, this concert is so phenomenally entertaining at many levels that I couldn't help but fall absolutely in love with the special magic of Sarah Brightman. Obviously, the expansive Middle Eastern milieu can accommodate more than one angelic vocalist!

I now consider Lisa Gerrard and Sarah Brightman to be geniuses who both warrant goddess status in the pantheon of lyrical greats. To see either one of them perform live is surely one of the most powerful and memorable sensory experiences one could ever have!

4 out of 5 stars Great, of course.......2005-03-18

Sarah's voice and style are terrific, as usual. However, I have to say that her version of Anggun's "Snow on the Sahara" is fairly bland, especially compared to the original Anggun version. Sarah has the chops but lacks soul on this great song. Everything els here is very nice.
