Customer Reviews:
Best worship music ever.......2007-06-25
I received this CD as a gift, and played it so often, that we needed to get one for the car. Each song is so memorable; the musicians and vocalists are top notch. Ending up buying a lot more music by Robin Mark and his team.
Revival in Belfast.......2007-04-19
You want heaven on earth? please get this cd YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!
Awesome, beautiful, inspiring worship. A must-own,.......2007-03-15
This cd is a classic of worship cds and deservedly so. Robin Mark and his band play songs of uncommon beauty. The lyrics lift up and exalt Christ and the musicianship is top-notch. I have owned this cd for a few years now and it never gets old. Every song is excellent, but a few standout tracks include Revival, Jesus, all for Jesus and an awe-inspiring version of Days of Elijah, which is worth the cost of the album by itself. My favorite song, however, is the gentle and woshipful How Great are You Lord. I hope heaven sounds like this.
Absolutely brilliant worship album.......2007-02-14
This is a unique, uplifting, utterly brilliant worship album. I can honestly say that I had never before heard of Irish-based music in the form of a worship concert album. The message in the songs is uplifting and spiritual, and the music itself is wonderful. Be prepared to have your heartstrings tugged on songs like the opener "Garments of Praise", "How Great Are You Lord", and "Be Unto Your Name". "Revival" is a wonderful, epic, thought-provoking, anthemic song. "Shout to the North" is a catchy, uptempo number. "Days of Elijah", as the closing track, is the ultimate uplifting masterpiece. My congregation has used this brilliant track as a sending song every couple of months or so for the past couple of years, and it is an absolute congregational favorite in a church where contemporary worship is finally beginning to be embraced.
For sure, "Days of Elijah" is representative of an album that is an absolute winner. The songs are based on passages in the Bible, and the music is touching and uplifting and truly praises Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. In addition, the songs are not at all hard to learn and sing along to. I highly recommend this album.
Revival in Belfast - Robin Mark.......2007-01-06
I love this celtic annointed worship music. Enter into His Presence with this CD. My personal favourites are: When It's All Been Said & Done, There is No other Name & Days of Elijah. I first heard "When all's Been Said & Done" on the Worship network, and I knew I had to get this CD. You can't help but sing along especially to Days of Elijah. My spirit is blessed with this lovely music.

Wonderful worship with Robin Mark.......2007-03-30
Revival in Belfast II is a wonderful worship experience. Mark has a gift for bringing his listeners into the presence of God to worship our God with music.
I really love this album.......2007-03-24
I had to revise my comments after listening to this CD more. I heard the song Killovil an Irish instrumental. I thought the CD was going to have Irish type music or Irish/Worship music. This was the only Irish instrumental on the CD. After playing the album a few times there are worship songs with the whistle and Irish flavor. I have come to love this CD. There are many good songs on it. My favorite worship song is "Some Kind of Love" and "Miracle in My Heart". Miracle in My Heart has the Irish whistle in. The CD music and songs are uplifting. I tried to change the rating from 3 to 5. I now want to rate this CD a 5
My least favorite Robin Mark CD.......2006-12-09
I really like all of Robin Mark's CDs, except for this one. I think that on all his other CDs you hear a musician who puts his whole heart into his music. This CD is still good and I myself could not sing nearly as well, but Revival in Belfast II somehow seems to be "a little more flat" and "just another Christian CD" whereas the others were more special.
Better than the last.......2005-08-14
This cd is filled with passionate songs written by a very humble man. I was thrilled to hear that Robin put out a "sequel" to Revival in Belfast and this did not disappoint. I love it even more than the first. For one thing, Robin wrote more of the songs on this one than the last. For a second, they are still filled with the great sounds of the old country - pennywhistle and uileann pipes. Finally, it is encouraging to hear such great music from such a humble musician. I have met Robin and he is inspiring because he views his work as nothing more than any other servant would do.
Blah.......2005-06-13
After a hit comes the sequel, which is usually quite bland. Same with this CD. Revival In Belfast was outstanding, but Revival In Belfast II is quite different. Gone is the Celtic beat. Even Robin Mark seems to have lost his Irish brogue. This CD sounds like a million other Christian CCM CD's. Sorry, but if you want a Celtic Christian music CD, this one is not it.

The Irish Tenors' fourth album sees the trio of Anthony Kearns, Ronan Tynan, and Finbar Wright paying a sentimental musical tribute to Ellis Island, the hallowed landmark that met the majority of immigrants entering the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. Needless to say, the Tenors' repertoire this time around is full of reflective ballads of love, loss, and homesickness, including the original "Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears" that opens this disc. Throughout this studio recording, the Irish Tenors are in fine form and backed by a soft-hued orchestra that never interferes with their soaring vocals. Traditional tunes include "My Wild Irish Rose," "How Are Things in Glocca Mora," and, of course, "Danny Boy" (the last sung by all three tenors, with refreshingly simple solo piano accompaniment). Thankfully, the threesome didn't forget that the immigrants had fun, too, as evidenced by some lighthearted fare; "The Courtin' Medley" features the Tenors at their most upbeat and comical. Ellis Island is a moving aural portrait of the struggles and triumphs of the Irish émigrés and a must-have for fans of the threesome. Newcomers may enjoy the Tenors' debut disc even more, as the earlier live album is a slightly more upbeat and spirited affair. --Jason Verlinde
Customer Reviews:
Three Cheers for the Irish!!!.......2007-05-30
A glorious concert in a historic setting, with all involved in top notch form. Finbar finds a great old Johnny Cash number, Ronan sings a Glocka
Mora to end all, and Anthony Kearns sings murderously difficult versions
of Macushla and The Croppy Boy like an angel. And their Courtin' and Irish
Medleys, and their "Nation Once Again" trios are simply glorious glees.
With the benefit of a grand theme, this is perhaps the best, and best balanced, of all their programs.
Ellis Island song brings tears to my eyes.......2006-03-17
This magical album crosses oceans and centuries and puts me in touch with my Irish ancestry. The title song tells a story similar to my greatgrandmother's and even though I've heard it many times now, I still weep for her.
How Are Things In Glocca Morra?.......2004-04-16
Long a fan of Irish music, I have turned to a series of artists to satiate my appetite. Bing Crosby and John McCormick have been succeeded by the Irish Tenors.
This CD has a bit more of an Irish American theme as "Isle Of Hope, Isle Of Tears" and "God Bless America" illustrate. Interspersed among these tunes are traditional Irish tunes such as "Macushla" and "Croppy Boy", along with newer songs, such as "The Green Fields Of France" and "How are Things In Glocca Morra?"
The singing is excellent, the words understandable. I appreciate the inclusion the lyrics of the songs contained on the insert of the cover. These are songs you will want to learn, whose stories you will want to research. I have. Listen again and again!

I think this is best CD since Live in Belfast! it also has 2 songs not included on the video! it's a unique album of how the immigration to Ellis Island and New York turned out. It also has songs of the war such as The Green Fields Of France (The Best One) or, the croppy boy. I would recommend this to anyone!

James Galway Enchants with "Dances for Flute".......2003-03-11
I purchased this CD after hearing a couple of tracks on our local fine arts radio station, but was completely unprepared for the richness and beauty to be found therein. Galway is a past master of the flute.
The selections on this CD, both familiar and new to this reviewer, are lovely. And more than one is positively haunting. I tell myself each day that I will remove the disk from the changer, to save for another day. But I cannot. I must have my daily dose of Galway.
Such is the enchantment that he weaves.
Unusual but outstanding flute music.......2001-01-30
This is one of a number of cd's bought for my wife (an avid flute lover) which have turned out to be among my favorites.
Galway plays with his normal crispness and energy, but here some unusual pieces one doesn't hear often. The two Khachaturian songs are haunting and the Belfast Hornpipe is so neat!
We listen to this often with toetapping, sometimes dancing enjoyment.

Van Morrison often comes across as brusque and gloomy, which is hardly a bad thing. Indeed, one would be hard-pressed to come up with a more dire album than Morrison's masterwork, Astral Weeks. The brooding Belfast bard tends to lighten up, however, when he's in the company of musical forerunners and peers, as evidenced by 1994's A Night in San Francisco (with John Lee Hooker, Junior Wells, and Jimmy Witherspoon) and '96's Tell Me Something: The Songs of Mose Allison (featuring Allison, Georgie Fame, and Ben Sidran). Here he reaches back to his skiffle youth, bringing aboard Lonnie Donegan (to skiffle what James Brown is to funk), trad-jazz bandleader Chris Barber, and Dr. John for a performance of '50s favorites. Skiffle, which was a brief craze in those pre-Beatles days, is a resolutely upbeat mating of jazz, blues, and folk, so you find Donegan and Morrison bellowing the lyrically downcast likes of "Frankie & Johnny," "Goodnight Irene," and "It Takes a Worried Man" as if they didn't have a care in the world. The result is an album that some would consider forgettable... if they could only shake those catchy tunes that keep running through their minds. --Steven Stolder
Customer Reviews:
egos checked, exuberance only.......2003-09-01
The quintessential geezer album, Van `The Man' Morrison moonlights alongside Lonnie `Chewing Gum On the Bedpost' Donegan and brontosaurean trad-jazz trombonist Chris Barber on this revival set of retro-Limey chicken-picken folk songs. Recorded in Ireland last year, the proceedings are appropriately exuberant; Donegan's antiquated nasal bleating is a fitting adjunct to Morrison's squalling bluff and bluster on cranky old folk/blues tunes like Goodnight Irene, Outskirts Of Town, Frankie and Johnny, and Muleskinner Blues. While Morrison and Donegan honk and holler the simple traditionals like ropy old farmyard geese, the raw energy of the big ... six-piece backing band (Dr. John tickles the ivories on Good Morning Blues and Goin' Home) carries the load, injecting the right amount of steely twang and jangle to make these skiffly old dustballs chug down the track regardless of whose ego is bouncing by.
Dr. Jazz says If you don't love this, you don't love Jesus!.......2002-05-05
Naysayers be damned! This recording is an eternal document to the music that is universal and timeless. What a treasure!

Skiffle Me Back To Alabama.......2002-04-30
Whenever I want great (eg. amazon five-star) truck-drivin' music, the first place I search is amazon "truck-drivin". Of course, this was my connection with Van Morrison's Skiffle Sessions. You wonder why?. Well, here's why: I don't own a truck, but I do own a Van. When I entered "Van Drivin Music", amazon returned The Skiffle Sessions. I've got to admit, it's the finest 53 minutes of van drivin music I can remember. I loved it and I bought it. Every time I hear the Ballad of Jesse James, it reminds me a little bit more of Jesse's birthdate. It really gets to me. Tom
a new convert.......2002-04-06
I have never before owned a Van Morrison recording. I am a long time devotee of blues, folk and bluegrass and never have I experienced all three on one recording. If you can sit perfectly still while listening to this gem, you'd best call your doctor. For me this is kind of like discovering a new author and then reading everything he or she has published. I tried to read my e-mail in the office this morning but couldn't concentrate on it until all 15 tracks had played. I've never heard of skiffle but I love it.
Skiffle 101.......2002-01-27
I bought this CD because I buy every CD that Van Morrison releases. I have to admit that I was oblivious as to who Lonnie Donegan & Chris Barber were and what exactly "skiffling" was. I was quickly impressed with this CD (Van doesn't even appear right away). It's just good, clean, toe tappin', knee stompin' fun. Clearly, Van was enjoying getting back to his roots with a couple of masters of skiffle.
I'm still not sure I'd know a skiffler if I bumped into one in a well-lit alley, but I can vouch for this CD being worthy of purchasing for any devoted Van fan.

Wish I'd Been There.......1998-12-25
It is very difficult (if not totally pointless) to choose a 'favorite' Van Morrison cd. The sheer volume of recorded work precludes such a choice. Also, works of art (and much of Morrison's recorded work is art) often defy such catagorization. That being said, I find myself returning again and again to this disc. The instrumental arrangements for the most part are spare yet the vocals very lush creating a sort of low-key ecstasy (if such a thing can be imagined) quite unlike almost any other of Morrison's recordings. The pairing of Van's voice with the synthesizers and trumpet of Mark Isham is inspired. These versions of 'She Gives Me Religion' and 'Vanlose Stairway' are absolutely inspired providing a thrilling emotional resonance rare even for Van. I never tire of this disc and recomend it highly.
Concise,rich,warm.......1998-08-21
This CD is a beauty. It's not quite the timeless classic that It's Too Late is... nor is it the sprawling (and hence, expensive) collection of live tunes that Night in San Francisco is. The Opera House show has certain concise, yet rich feel. It has been a favorite of mine for years and I highly recomend it!

Customer Reviews:
A soulful performance.......2005-12-28
He changes up some favorites and blows the doors off some others. Van plays sax like he sings--all growls and mumbles and suddenly soaring highs. And the words "wee wee wee" have never held so much soul. Pee Wee Ellis and Mark Isham make Van's most eclectic and versatile horn section ever and the rest of band is tight. Good recording quality. Great remastering. Highly recommended.
Good, not great, vocal performance by Van, unfortunately, the band rushes the tempos of some of Van's best songs.......2005-09-25
The titles says it all, almost. The material on this CD is my personal favorite: "Beautiful Vision" (his masterpiece) and the "Into the Music" time period are well represented. However, the tempos almost all sound rushed (I feel like getting a pitch adjuster and slowing down the songs a half step), except some of the slower pieces still sound very good ("She Gives Me Religion", "Haunts of Ancient Peace", are standouts). All in all a good Van CD, which is better than most musicians best efforts. If the tempos were more relaxed, it would rank among his greatest work. As it is, it is the only other place I can get more of the wonderful "Beatiful Vision" material, which is by far my favorite Van music. 4 stars, I am usually a tough grader, and Van Morrison is way beyond what the average musician produces, yet the rushed sound of the performance and the lack of any real musical "stretching out" prevent this from ranking as an all-time classic recording.
Rave On, Van!.......2005-06-15
I am amazed that the reviews for this album are so low! Perhaps they are not ready for this album yet, that is what happened to me.
I listened to this a couple of times 10,15 years ago and forgot about it. Recently, I found it in the back of a trunk and decided to listen to it again. It blew my mind. For me, Van is at his best live and Pee Wee Ellis is top notch on this album.
This album blows away all of the studio recordings of these songs which in comparison sound stiffled and artificial now that I have heard the real deal. If you like the track list, I don't know how you wouldn't like this album; this spiritual journey. Rave On, Van!
"See the man with the stage fright...".......2003-12-20
No, Van doesn't cover the old song by The Band, but on this live date his legendary nervousness onstage is constantly making itself felt. It sounds like he can barely keep from bolting offstage during the spoken part of "Rave On, John Donne", especially when he muffs his lines. "Oh what swine" instead of "Oh what sweet wine", but the friendly crowd didn't burst into laughter. In fact, in another part, they strike up a round of encouraging applause, as he's struggling to get a saxophone solo under control.
So that's the "warts", the "and all" is a good representation of where Van was in the mid-Eighties: free-form celtic mysticism in a supper-club soul-jazz setting. I don't mean that to be flip; Van had more "yarrgh" than ever, and he gets his vision across convincingly. Highlights include "Full Force Gale", with a slightly changed melody from the _Into The Music_ studio version, and with more kick, too. "Dweller On The Threshold" is really special, if too short. The mood pieces, including "Vanlose Stairway" and "Haunts of Ancient Peace" are sometimes undercut by Van's skittishness, but they too succeed.
So this is a milepost, a souvenir of where he was back then. There's nothing really raw on here, like "Cypress Avenue" on _It's Too Late To Stop Now_, let alone "Caravan" on _The Last Waltz_--his peak on legal live recordings, btw. But "Cleaning Windows" is a good, bouncing r&b number, a smart uptempo song to end this heavily into the mystic set. He almost sounds comfortable by the end.

Just a year after their smash breakthrough debut album--itself still riding high in the charts--the Irish Tenors have added another delightfully varied collection to their discography. Live in Belfast again showcases the group's obvious concert charisma from a performance given in February 2000. It's a generous smorgasbord of medleys, traditional numbers, and songs from popular sources (including "Scorn Not His Simplicity," which Sinead O'Connor has interpreted)--mixing nostalgic sentimentality with selections of bittersweet melancholy. Binding the whole together is the unmistakable stylish charm of the Irish Tenors, whether singing in solos or in ensembles. But the biggest surprise for fans already hooked on the Tenors is the introduction of Finbar Wright as replacement for original member John McDermott. Wright's bright, romantic voice easily wins over a potentially skeptical crowd--especially in the dreamy "Isle of Innisfree"--and blends nicely with his colleagues. (McDermott, who had to bow out of the performance due to the death of his mother, makes a surprise appearance to solo in a memorable and touching "The Last Rose of Summer"--given as a tribute to his parents--and to rejoin the Tenors for "Red Is the Rose.") The arrangements by Tenors producer Frank McNamara are played with zest by the Orchestra Warsaw Sinfonia. --Tom May

Great Music and Outstanding Voices.......2007-03-28
My wife and I saw these tenors live and on stage and we were truly impressed. Their voices blend beautifully and they present a well rounded variety of songs. We so enjoyed the first CD that we bought this current one.
Time for a new one.......2001-10-19
I bought this CD, (plus the video) in July 2000 and listened to it so much I think it must be just about worn out.!!!The video I have seen so often I bet I have seen every idiosyncrasy of each of them. The Tenors are almost my total pastime. About 12 hours a day, listening and viewing. I "met" them July 22/00 and have been to four concerts, and I'm still impressed by the joyous sounds of their voices.
It's been a lomg time since I wrote my last review of this CD, but I hope I have helped to encourage others to enjoy the thrill of the most magnificent voices of their lives.

Wonderful music, wonderful voices.......2001-05-31
I do not claim to be a musical expert. It has always been my contention that music which makes the listener feel good, which raises the spirits and makes the heart glad, is worthy of being heard. Such is this CD. I don't listen to it to search for flaws, flubs, failings and screw-ups. I listen to it because it makes me happy. I am of Irish ancestry, and this wonderful music stirs a core deep within my soul. I got to hear some traditional Irish folk music I'd never heard before. I would hope that all those who listen to this CD would choose to enumerate its merits based on the fact that this music is meant to lighten the soul. It never was meant to be held up to intense scrutiny, because it is folk music. These are the songs the people sang. They weren't meant to be grand, classical opera, and should not be regarded or critiqued as such. They are beautiful and moving, just as they stand, and I am grateful that God gave these four men such voices to sing these old tunes and to preserve them for the generations to come. God knows we need positive, beautiful music now more than ever.
Professional on professionals.......2001-05-05
I am taking from the best in the world. I have met Pavarotti's teachers (Joan Doanerman and Joan Sutherland) and also take from them. I am very well-known in musical analyzing and teaching. I have read all reviews, and personally, many of you need to learn much more about proper vocal technique to be a critic. The voice must flow, with support (breath), low larynx, etc. All four tenors possess the proper singing qualities. However, stage presence, song interpretation, and musicianship also take into affect. Finbar Wright needs to continue his musicianship. He possesses much more romanticism than he shows. Also, anyone can say words like "texturing, spellbinding and dominance," and sound like a knowledgeable critic. However, these words are thrown into sports review as well. Face it folks, know what you are saying. John McDermott has a beautiful voice, but it is a much different classical style than many people know. John is a Celtic Tenor, which means that his under- and overtones will sound much different than the other three. The symphony is NOT too dominant, David Schierholz. If you have worked with the Met recording studios, than you can talk with me, because I have sat in on them. These are live performances, not takes in a studio. Folks, I am a born and bred Irishman. These men are great, but there needs to be more of there individual literature available. I would love to find Anthony Kearns classical recordings. Then, when you have studied and understand the nature of the voice and theatre, then you can write your reviews.
Tenners for Tenors.......2001-02-16
This cd and video was my introduction to the wonderful "Irish Tenors". Seperately each is spellbinding. Together they are nothing short of magical. Finbar Wright is a dashingly romantic figure while Ronan Tynan is most compelling. Anthony Kearns will be a major star someday in the opera world. His voice is clear and strong. Wright's voice soars in songs such as "Carrickfergus" and "Isle of Innisfree". He seems a bit nervous which is understandable given he had only 10 days to prepare for this concert. He was asked literally days before the performance to step in for John McDermott. Thank goodness he did! The one downer for me was the appearance of John McDermott as his voice is not my cup of tea.
